Featured Deviation, "No Boundaries" [link]

Oct. 19th will mark the 3rd year of my Godbrother Jody's passing. Born 6 days apart, same month, same year, our mother's knew each other since about 5th grade. We spent a lot of time as family, growing up and getting into mischief. I still remember the time when he let me put barretts in his hair, I went crazy with a whole package of them, they got tangled up, and we had to literally cut them out. I remember his 16th birthday where he was handed a pair of keys, and had to figure out which car, among the masses parked for the festivities, was his new car, and how we got in and took her for a spin down the road. After that, my family moved, and I grew up, and we grew apart for a while. It was only in recent years, since my last days in MT, did we start to communicate again - and communicate did we! Hours on the phone! And knowing I was coming to FL, trying to find the time among the distance to get together. But that never happened.

It is for Jody that I dedicate "Memorial". This will forever be his painted poem.

You know, when I write, I never title. It is only when prompted to that I must create one, and the title I had picked for this poem wasn't working, causing me to procrastinate further in its completion. It is only after the word "memorial" popped into my head that I found enough inspiration to finalize this piece. I can only attribute this to Jody and his muse - I know because I can feel it. Thank you!

This is a reminder to me, to his family, to everyone, of the totality of existence and the beauty of the universe.

She is a super special person full of love and light, compassion and friendship. She's one of the first "real" friends I've made here, and has shown tremendous support.

We've both have been pretty busy lately, and haven't had time to talk much, but don't worry sweets

Not so happy

am I that =martisunshine and I are against each other in the next round of the *burn-p0etry contest.

I've finished my little mosaic learning project and found it to be quite fun, like a puzzle, and I quite like puzzles

I'm going to do some clay pots (huge ones, though) to match the newly renovated pool area, and I just received a 12x12 hardboard I'd like to mosaic (need a design!). I'm almost finished with my macrame plant hanger. Maybe I'll take a pic and put it in scraps so you can see what I am talking about

Tomorrow (Sat.) I have a friend coming over for lunch and some shopping, however I hope to get some new features posted.

Good morning everyone

Well, today I hope to get caught up with some things here on DA. I work on the computer all day, so lately I've been taking a break at night.

=martisunshine and I made it through to round two of the *burn-p0etry contest!

I must go vote!

I have taken a break from painting to learn mosaics

I am learning with Italian glass, not ceramic or stone, at the present moment. Something I have been wanting to try for a few years now, reading and reading, soaking it in like a sponge. To learn, I purchased a kit, so I wont be posting my results here (which I am still working on), however, I will certainly post future endeavors. I have already ordered supplies to create my own original designs

Which brings me back to the 20" round canvas staring at me from across the room, somewhat textured and painted. I must try to do something with it, hopefully today. I need paint (getting low), but of course I got excited with mosaics and ordered supplies for that instead...

And well, yet another project I want to get to is macrame plant hangers. I purchased 4 rolls of jute last weekend.

Oh wait, not to mention all the other little projects I have for myself: scrapbook pages, halloween costumes for the dogs (what about us?), beer clock for the outside bar, finishing the dining room (spackle, sand, prime, paint...), and the list goes on and on and...

Featured Deviation, "No Boundaries" [link]

I'm going to start to register each painted poem with the National Fine Arts Title Registry. Hopefully it's not a bunch of crap!

My featured Deviation, "No Boundaries" is my first registered painted poem. I have also taken a new picture, in hopes of giving everyone a clearer representation of the entire piece.

I am also trying to frame each painted poem. As many of you may well know, it's not an inexpensive endeavor. I like simple, straight forward contemporary gallery style wood frames. The frame around "No Boundaries" is quite a nice, velvet smooth, inner bevel edged frame, which I feel compliments the piece rather well.

At present, this painted poem is hanging above the mid-height dresser in our bedroom. Our furniture is Danish Modern, the same black as the frame. Looks rather spiffy

She has a bunch of linens, blankets, paper goods, and I have a 2 ft. 9 in. x 4 ft., 42 gallon heavy duty contractor bag full of clothes, shoes, etc. just waiting for a cause from my last closet clean up project

I am quite happy to say it feels good to donate!

Ok, another stab at the avatar thing... I made the font bigger, gave a contrasting highlight, and tried to brighten up the image a little.

I know everyone really likes my angel avatar, and I do too... it was never meant to be permanent, only temporary until I designed something a little more personal. Ummm... hmmm... maybe I can do an animation? Incorporate both images? Any thoughts on that?

Still working on ABC. Just came in from spray painting the papier-mache hands

Ordering some more art supplies - gels,texture gels and canvas. Going to try using gels as a transfer medium to get my tattoos onto the canvas, then I can work on "Branded". More experimenting

I've re-loaded Photoshop onto my computer

and have been researching the Wacom tablet I keep hearing about. I am seriously considering ordering one next paycheck. Upon further experimentation, I plan to open up another gallery for all non-poetry and non-painted poem art

I will be in CT for my Grandmother's 80th brithday from 07/07 through 07/11, and wont be back on DA until after that. I know I'm going to miss out on a lot of great stuff and have lots to answer :claps:

Might move it over to be a Deviation instead of a scrap... we shall seeeeee...

Working on a few ideas for more painted poems. Would like to paint "ABC" and "Branded". Will begin experimenting with various transfer processes to get my tattoos onto the canvas (need endless supplies of course!). Kind of rare I get two I want to do in my head! Sort of works like a process. I get the urge to paint, so I scour for one that vibrates "paint me". Then I must do the words first, while developing the concept in my head. Dry run of laying the words on the canvas, then work on the actual canvas last. Tried the reverse, to paint the canvas, then pick the poem -

doesn't work out right at all. The progression is ALL wrong... Know what I mean?

BIG sigh of total and complete relief!

I dislike starting something and then not finishing it... like this that had been leaned against the wall in my office for a week - a big black hole staring at me. But now it's done

At first I wasn't so sure I liked all that silver - it was like, too silvery or something, so I had to tone it down a little. It's simple, not terribly complex, and I happen to like that in this piece.

One thing, I can't figure out how to take decent pics. I am using my digi cam. I am trying to capture the essence of the piece by showing as much as I can, however I am afraid that takes away from so many things visually. For example, have you ever seen a Van Gogh in person (my fav impressionist BTW)? If you have been fortunate enough (as I have) to visit the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam, or have viewed tours at the MOMA, etc., then you know exactly to what I am referring. The vibrancy of the colors, the spirit, the heart, the very soul of the work cannot be fully appreciated in a print or a picture. You must be there to see it in person to completely inhale the quintessential nature of the beast.

Well, I think I am on to something here. Having a creative breakthrough

Just added another layer to the canvas

Maybe it's because I'm not used to the blackness of it all... meaning I generally use coppers, bronzes and golds, however, this time I started out like "Unbroken Silence" by painting the background in micaceous iron oxide (sparkly black stuff). It will be the second of my black and silver series.

I was thinking about all my other pieces, non-painted poem pieces, like drawings and photographs and, and... I don't just write poetry and paint them. Wishing there was a way we could have more than one gallery on DA, without having to create another ID. I consider this corner of DA to be solely for my poetry and painted poems; unwilling to clutter or distract one with other bits of creativity that stray from the purpose of being here in the first place. Hmmm... will have to ponder that a bit more

HELP!

I feel like a blank piece of paper, sitting here with the pen in my hand, but nothing is flowing. I have a poem, I primed the canvas, I gathered the materials, and yet I sit here, too tired to think... too brain drained to spark any creativity. I have ideas, but I just can't get into it. Maybe it's too much time in front of the computer. I sit here all day (I work from home) and then I sit here all night... ugh... I feel like a walking zombie. I want to, I really do want to get into it. I have it all sitting right here.

Ok that's it ! I need to escape the screen. I have to urge to join my rocker b/f Chris Cornell for a debut duet of "Shadow on the Sun" Sing, Yoga, take a shower... *inspiration*

I sit here, naked with computer, all the while in the shower wishing my head was a tape recorder taking down the thoughts coming to me randomly, all at once... I can sort them out later...

An excerpt, from my livejournal when I started this piece:
"I started in on the "egg", as it has been affectionately dubbed by miss cherlisita *muah* I like to make my painted poems in one sitting, however this one is going to take longer. maybe that is the mark of growing, these layers. growing within the work, and self. first layer rich bronze; second layer metallic antique copper; third layer bright copper - layer on each color one at a time, while wet blend on canvas and dry. fourth layer is a mixture of irridescent gold deep (fine), irrid. gold (fine) and acrylic glazing liquid - spread on a thin layer then use comb to create lines and swirls then dry. next comes the "egg" part, a mixture of high solid gel (gloss), garnet gel (extra coarse), irrid. copper (fine) and irrid. copper (coarse). I have no idea what that is going to look like when it dries! this is all totally experimental, every part of it. it always is! I haven't worked with these gels before. other texture gels yes, but not these in particular, and not the glaze either, which looks really cool and very subtle I might add. a really nice effect because it is transparent enough that you can see the 3 layers of copper and bronze beneath the golden swirls. after the "egg" is layed out and dried, i have a mixture of clear tar gel and irrid. gold (fine & coarse) to act as a dripping, stringy substance out of the egg. again, i have never used this tar gel, however it is "designed to yield a pully, tar-like feel..."

Now that it is done... what do you see? Can you see yourself standing there, buckling from all the pressure, from all the thoughts, feeling like your head is going to blow and everything will come pouring out... dripping out... you are cracked like the mirror... you are drained of your energy, like a cracked egg losing its yolk, and it is leaking out... pieces scatter here and there... you scramble to pick them up, to reassemble yourself... Can you?
