In other news: Buffy the Vampire Slayer is nothing compared to Firefly. At all. Obviously Joss's awesome makes the genericy and predictability much more than tollerable; but Series 6 Episode 7 makde up for the suck entirely, as it was approximately the best thing in the world ever.

D&D related shenanigans from the group I'm DMing. Lucavi is the Eladrin Wizard belonging to 's partner Cliff. Neither of them are playing with us anymore, but until a replacement is sorted we've been using Lucavi as a stand in. Now when Cliff was in charge of him, Lucavi was a beast. He rolled like back to back 17s and basically was the only one pwning anything. has been controlling him since they left the group. So it seems I neglected to tell a lot of you guys when I found the most helpful resource on the internet to date. I'm sure you've noticed a dramatic increase in my art skillz recently, and honestly I can credit them only to this tutorial.

I know there are a lot of tutorials on how to draw and stuff, but this one if the first to honestly help me with my work, and I think it'll help you too.

From this experience, I have learned I am neither cut out to be a gay, nor a woman. Dealing with hurties in such a sensitive area on a monthly basis does not sound like fun. Obviously I still have no idea of the level of hurties, but I'm definitely labeling this occurrence quite highly on the worst experiences of my life. It's like someone's got a really sharp fingernail dug into my butt, and every now and then for no reason it gets longer, wider, and sharper then goes back to normal.

So a year ago tomorrow I started srs bsns looking for employment.

Nothing within my abilities (i r not medically trained lolololz) has been available. I am fed up with this.

My descision is to stop focusing on things I have no control over. I have one last thing to look into, then I am going on unemployment benefits (if I'm elligable). I intend to put all the money I recieve away into my savings account for future schoolings.

Between then and me finding a job/going to school I intend to focus on things I DO have controll over. Some of you may have noticed my sleeping patterns have changed. Instead of waking up at 3PM and going to bed at 5AM, I'm now waking up at 7:30AM (Still not managing to physically GET up 'till 8:30, but y'know. Baby steps) and going to bed around midnight. Exercise is occuring every few days and I intend to up this now that summer is coming. Artwise, I'm starting a comic to try and give myself some kind of schedule to replace school/work. Not quite deadlines, but something at least. (Note: this will not be an awesome comic)

These are my first steps.

Suggest other things I can try to improve plz. (I'm thinking learning to cook would be a good thing to do at some point, and fyi: finding friends is not an option ¬¬ )

So I got up today and went to do stuff like normal, and my parents were like "Happy birthday!" and I was like "What, it's not until the 26th" and they were like "It IS the 26th" and I was like "...what."

Apparently I was the only one to forget it was my birthday.

Gotta admit, I was a little dissapointed.

The film was different. It was interesting, it was good, it had some cool effects and it was generally a pretty solid thing. The prawns were cool. It left what happened to your imagination, which not enough films do these days. It was generally a good film.

However, I was probably more entertained watching Ice Age3.

I don't think D9 was worth 26 odd dollars of my money and two 30 minute car trips there and back.

It might have suffered from halo-itis and in the end all the hype made me expect more from it than it was prepared to give, so maybe it wasn't its fault, but still. Little dissapointed.

So one of the replacements we found for D&D decided today, the first day of restarted playings, that he couldn't make the times, and quit. He also decided not to tell me. The other is still on holiday.

We've had one day of play, and like two weeks of this shit now.

I am officially fed up.

You know when you watch the clock for a nice time to come up? like 11:11? 10:01? 13:37? etc?

So there's some funtimes going down on a piece someone popular submitted that I think is quite interesting.

What it seems they are claiming, is that if you submit a piece of visual art and the description you write is longer vertically than the picture, you are not an artist.

Imho, I get what they mean that a picture should communicate itself without the need for words, but what if you want to write stuff too? Could it be that you've achieved to communicate what you wanted with the picture and want to just write more? Could it be you like talking about your characters and have trouble stopping? Could it be you like a nice informal feel around your watchers and like to chat it up?

Incidentally, he was claiming artists who like to talk aren't artists but fashion designers, which would have amused me endlessly if he wasn't being so arrogant about the whole thing. XP

When do you think a house becomes a home? I have a theory (duh), and that is that it's when you know how to open and close all the doors. This may sound silly, so let me explain.


Doors tend to have a trick to them.

In our house in England, to close the bathroom door propperly you had to close it, put your foot on it to hold it shut, and jar it to make the little closey bit close. In the rental place we lived before coming here, to open the porch door you had to use both hands to twist it very quickly, and to close it again you had to twist it to close, then when it came out again push it.

When you've learned all these tricks that a house holds, then you can start thinking about considering it a home.

So I called telecom about my constantly shorting out internets the other day. Two hours and no less than 5 transfers later they were like "oh lol there mait be a problemz with it, we'll monitor it and try to stabilize it" and since then I hadn't been able to connect. Guy came to fix it today, changed the plugs and left. Half an hour later, the internet shorted out.

Narglii... uh... I dunno about catchphrases. Whenever I give them one I forget them almost instantly. It's safe to assume she says "I'm hungry" more often than anything, despite her being hungry is a physical impossibility.

Most of them live in the same continuity, yeah. Just at different times, on different planets. The Porodians are present basically throughout history though, so they know most people. Although TECHNICALLY they don't meet the REAL Scarlet, and Shell's planet is protected by the underdeveloped planet laws. So Shell wouldn't know or be aware of any of the others, because they'd not earned first contact yet.

14) Are there any pairings that are in your OC list? (they can’t be with someone else's)
Pairings? No. Porodians live in extended families, not partnerships. Closest thing to a pairing would be Goshava and Gelehna.

So I finished Ozy & Millie. The abrupt end of a really long webcomic tends to suck, as many of us know, but that's not the thing.

There was a thing, basically they finished Primary school, and were given letters that they'd written themselves on their first day of primary school that they'd written to the themselves of the future. I'm sure you know what I mean despite my descriptive failure.

Has anyone ever done this? Written a letter to yourself that you seal and forget about until the date you addressed it to yourself? I seem to remember doing something similar, but I probably totally forgot and threw it away. I'm always having people being all like "Hey, remember that thing we were supposed to try and forget? I CAN'T FORGET IT XD" and I'm like "wha?" and they're like "Wow, you managed it?" "...Managed what?"

...Anyway.

I'm fairly sure there's some kind of interesting group project in this whole writing letters to your future self thing... Anyone else see it?

I got internets working on my desktop!

I now technically have 3 internet ready computers. Although one laptop doesn't turn on and has a faulty battery stuck in it, and the monitor for the desktop has... well it's had better days. I'd forgotton how lol the colour difference between Laptop monitors and big ol' CRTs was XD I checked some of the stuff I've been doing lately and the colours look HORRIBLE on the PC XD Cel looks fucking flourescant ffs, what the hell. Textures are so much more noticeable on the leptop aswell... on the PC they blend right in, really nice like. It's pretty cool. I loaded up [link] on Rebecca and the Desktop, and I'm playing 'spot the difference' 8B

So far on the PC - warm tones look much better and warmer (so I guess my skin tones look horrible), because of this purples look a lot redder (So I guess I have to be warey I don't make Pora look pinka), like I said textures blend in and look a lot more natural (So I guess that makes life easier), other details can be lost (so I guess I need to worry about sharpness a little less), and things look a lot less shiny (darks are darker, so duh).

The PC's a lot closer to print colours than the laptop is, so that's why I'm worrying about the PC more than Rebecca in this case.

Anyway.

If you hate my colour choices for things, this could explain why. XD

Religion now.

Yeah, I've been thinking a lot lately. Frankly I'm not sure I care much for it, and I'm sure you don't if I'm making this many more journals than USUAL. XD

Anyway. I dunno if you'd classify it religion or not, and I never really payed much attention in RE, so this kinda thing is probably terribly old ground.

But I was thinking about how lots of... beliefs, or... philosophies or whatever you'd call them talk about achieving a higher, or purer state of being. Now depending on how you think about things, 'doing' tends to be a distraction from 'being', so your state of earthly being is at it's purest, or highest, or whateverest (mt. everest?) when you're doing as little as possible. aka, nothing at all. Maybe similar theories preceded meditation coming into existence, I don't know. But the general states of doing nothing are meditation and sleep.

I've never really tried meditation, but some people claim to feel a one-ness with the universe during. Some people say it helps them maintain an inner peace for long periods of time, or to overcome physical, mental, or spiritual stress.

During sleep, we dream. You have to admit there's a sort of spiritual feeling to a lot of dreams. Like an out of body experience or whatever. And the thought (or lack thereof) behind some of the situations is clearly quite... different?

But I was thinking more specifically about laziness. When you can be truly lazy (and I don't mean like "I'm not going to do the washing up because I can't be arsed") you can enter a kind of meditative state of sorts. I'm sure you can think of times when you've been so lazy you've decided to do absolutely nothing, so do you think we could call this the Modern Man's Meditation? The kind of mindless Nirvana achieved by those who feel the compulsion to watch football marathons they taped off of the TV three years ago? I'm considering the benefits of a form of relaxation that the modern people with 'no time' to even bother cooking themselves a meal could practice while watching TV. Because TV can aid in eradicating coherent thought. Anyone who has seen even part of an episode of 'friends' can tell you this.

If this takes off, I think I'm going to risk being predictable and call the practice "Beer-vana"

Graphic Design in relation to Art. Two styles of visual communication with a lot of areas that can overlap. Do you, then, think that someone being an artist qualifies them for graphic design? Or the other way?

In my opinion - no, because while a lot of general rules and such overlap, and while talent in one will definitely help with the other... they're just not the same thing. Thing is though, I'm not sure I quite know WHY I think this. The closest I came to justifying it was "Artists aim to capture emotion, Designers aim to evoke it".

Discuss.

It's one of my favourite kinds of world outlooks. It often takes the eyes of a child to outline the raw stupidity much of adult life is built upon, and comment appropriately. And they have the extra level of childish zanyness and general “awwww” factor that makes them palletable to a wider yet audience and prevents general depression. (The news could learn from this)

I'm sure most recogniseable among the comic strips would be Calvin & Hobbes, which - being a total looser - I've not read much of, but I do buy into some webcomics quite a bit.

I recently picked up (so to speak) Ozy & Millie, a webcomic about two 8 year old Foxes. It has the same general formula, comments on society/politics/religion/philosophy ([link] ), mixed with pleasant zanyness ( [link] ), aw factor ( [link] ); and it also has foxes in. So I'm quite fond of it so far.

What I was wondering is why do very few people appreciate it so much when the extra layer consists of another kind of lowest common denominator? The kind that's a much more accurate direction for most modern teens+?

Because as far as I'm aware, most intelligent people can see beyond a surface layer if it consists of “I'm cute”, but not if it consists of “Suck my balls”. South Park deserves more recognition than it gets - I don't care if you think it's blasphemy, it's this generation's Calvin & Hobbes.

I know it's Generic, I know it's obvious, I know it's nowhere near a 'good' TV series. This knowledge does not stop me from loving it.

I'm at next door's place using their internets quickly to upload my AatR audition/ref stuff.

Quick summary of events:

-Phone pe- oh, happy Birthday Ally!
-Phone people are estimating the phone line will be up on the...6th or 10th(I forget). I'm not sure how internets relate to that, or if that's an accurate estimation, so it could well be longer.
-The new house is awesome. My new study is awesome. My new desk is awesome.
-The moving process is not awesome. Several things are MIA, including my scanner >=/ So many boxes @_@ Oh well. We'll find it soon.
-Srsly, this house is big. But warm. It keeps heat 8D. Yay.

It had been freezing and locking up at irregular intervals, and getting more and more frequent in doing so, so today I called the makers' tech support. During the process of trying to discern what the problem was, it froze. During both things. Now you can't even get to the login screen.

So they gave me a number, and apparently if I give it to the people at the place we got the laptop from then they'll replace it.

They're closed now though. So I have to phone them tomorrow to see if they have a replacement item in stock, and then I'll have to work out when we can go down to get it replaced.

Fun times.

Anyway yeah. I've now lost my game of portal, the things I'd been drawing in Opencanvas, a bunch of tedious soundfile changing I'd done, and all the other shit I can't remember.

In addition to this, Rise's audition deadline has been pushed back to August 26th (Day sound familiar?), so I won't have to be rushing with it.

If you're new here and don't know what this is, basically it's an art trade, but for sketches, and you do me one thing after I've done you two or more. Your options are sketches done IRL with pencil, paper, and a whole lot of erasor marks, and OpenCanvas 1.1 cleaned sketches.

If getting twice/more the amount of sketches you put in sounds like your thing, then go for it.

I do however reserve the right to reject the occasional request though, and if something comes up like it did recently then they'll be shunted aside once again. Hence why I'm not telling people their task for me until I've finished doing their thingies. :3

Haha, after waiting two years I was expecting there to be at least another month or so XD But apparently not.

I was looking at a Toshiba Beastly thing with a 2.16 Ghz Processor, 400GBs of hard drive space, 4gigs of Ram and a dedicated graphics thingaling for $2500. Ended up risking another HP with 2.10 Ghz Processor, 300GBs of hard drive space, 2 gigs of RAM and a dedicated graphics thingaling for 1800. But there was a deal on this one. So I also got for 1800 a printer/scanner thing (scanner bit doesn't look as good as my actual scanner, but hey I needded a printer), a laptop carry case, a full antivirus doo-da, a 4gb usb stick, and an extra 2 gigs of RAM. I also bought an external hard drive, a mouse and a headset, and the total price came to just under 2500 bucks, which was the limit my parents were willing to go to. I still have to pay to sort out the old laptop, so I'm still broke, but I have a shiny new (fucking huge) laptop to show for it. I have however been automatically recruited for most if not all manual labour during the move because of this, and won't be getting a birthday this year. Which I think is pretty fair.

Still Vista, sadly, but hey. Next installment of money (which won't be for a looooong time) I'll be getting a new tablet hopefully, so maybe that won't have compatibility issues... yeah I doubt it but whatever.

Just about all of my stuff ever is now packed. No PS2, no Wii, nothing until we've moved now. No table either. And tonight is really warm. Warm enough to be working. However doing so on the bed causes chronic back ache. So although I'll be trying after I've finished sorting out my DS stuff, I probably won't be getting very far.

Also there's a chance I misunderstood my parents and they said they'd get me the new laptop and stuff in place of a birthday thing, so we might be going to look at things this weekend.

So the new laptop battery I was advised to get arrived today. I wasn't told it was twice the side of the old one, so now my laptop sticks up at an odd angle and is prone to wobbling, but that's okay.

I put it in the way the guy in the shop told me to, and it wasn't charging or being accepted or anything. So I tried to take it out and it wouldn't come out. And it still won't come out. So I took it to the shop and the guy said he never told me how to take them out or put them in, and that they would take it from me and charge me a minimum of $55 to fix it. I asked how long it would take, and he told me $55. I asked him again how much TIME it would take and he told me $55. I was at this point questioning his level of intelligence. He refused to even look at it until he'd taken $55 and wouldn't tell me how long it could take. He denied ever showing me how to put it in as well, which is bullshit, because he kinda did. A lady having her computer looked at advised me to try Dick Smith because they might be cheaper, so I went hunting for them. After I finally found them, he took a look at it and said "This only happens when it's the wrong battery, so I don't know what's up with that". I've been walking around town for 2 and a bit hours with a laptop in my backpack, and I have got nowhere.

My parents were going to buy my laptop so I could get a new one after we moved, but I can't give it to them in this state. It only works when it's plugged into the power lines, the back is elevated by an inch or so, and the battery (that won't even charge up) is stuck in there. I'm always being told that I'm just paranoid, and people aren't just going t try and screw me over. Hmm. Looks like my savings fund intended for Schoolings is going to be raided sometime soon.

This includes playing with my food if it can be made into a symmetrical shape or something, popping strepsils symmetrically, rearranging eggs, counting squares, etc. Sounds terribly OCD, but it's not. If it were I'd feel bad if I didn't do it. And I don't if I don't. So nyerr.

2. I discovered the other day that I'm not entirely detached from RL. Y'know on the news when it's all like "Fifty people died today for some dumb reason" and I'm like "w/e", same thing happens in a game I'm into and I'm like "D: < Fuck you bad guys I'mana kick your arses for them". But the other day a white tiger was euthanized for killing some idiot that provoked it. I was angry. So it's just people I don't care about. 8D

5. I am wearing a total of 4 hoodies at the moment due to it being FUCKING COLD. 4 hoodies, two pairs of trousers, two pairs of socks, fingerless gloves, a scarf, and a blanket to be precise. You can credit my lack of drawingness lately to the freezing fucking cold environment I have to work in. My hands hurt when I try to hold my tablet pen/a pencil most of the time. MOVE SOON.

6. I'm a chronic daydreamer. I regularly have to be 'woken up' because I'll start giggling at things that I'm thinking about. Apparently some people find that creepy. I dunno, I think they're just weird, everyone does that.

8. I just watched 1 and a half run throughs of Super Metroid, as it's the one Metroid game I've not played. Gonna finish the other one off tomorrow then watch a play through of Metal Gear Solid. WELL SEEING AS I CAN'T FIND IT ANYWHERE TO BUY andhavenomoneyanyway I MAY ASWELL. Y'know. Next best thing.

So today wasn't quite so freezing fucking cold, so I was able to get some work on Rise done. Seems it'll be taking me two days per page... Here's what I did today [link] (how's it lookin? I've got a lot of packing to do. Need to replace my battery before then and get rid of my old monitor and stuff as well. So. Y'know. Stuff. Might be a tad AFK for a while after the move, depending on how long it takes for internets to get set up there.


ANYWAY. I've been drawing all day, it's now twenty past midnight and I've not eaten since lunch time. So I'ma have dinner before my hands become too cold to be useful again. Oh wait, too late. Can't wait to be in a warm house you guys. srsly.
