My latest additions to my gallery may look like IR photos, but this isn't the case. This journal entry is for you Photoshop users that know better.

Images that look IR:

1) I take numerous photos in sequence of a landscape, careful to get a lot of the sky. I make sure each photo overlaps as to make a good merge.
2) I merge these photos in photoshop and blend them to make an overall image then crop it.
3) I merge my layers after minor tweaks then add a channel mixer layer with a preset black and white filter.
4) I duplicate my main image three times below the channel mixer.
5) On the two duplicates above my base image I apply masks and use a black to white gradient on them that cover the whole area I want to level.
6) I level these two layers so that the highlights are to my liking.

7) I save it and deliver it to you, my friends on deviantART.

My gallery!
My website!

Put your content inside the SUP tags.

</sup>

stock images used

Oh man... I love Twitter. I've only really used it for the last couple of days.

So I'm following Danny DeVito's tweets and one of the first ones to pop up is, "Bright moonlight in the quiet California desert phillies kicking ass on my transister radio! Pass times http://yfrog.com/0srpdj"

So you got to ask yourself, why is DeVito in the desert? Why is he using a transistor radio? Did he just buy this radio? Who is he talking to?

And of course you'll click on his picture to find a haphazard shot of a hazed moon that might actually be a flashlight through his bed sheets.

This is way far better than reading the tabloids! Let's see if he responds to, "@Danny_DeVito What were you doing in the desert with a transistor radio?"

If he does I'm going to be thrilled! Unlike other celebs he's not following 100 thousand other people to gain his twitter ranking.

Danny,

If you see this, please look at my photography. And if you like it please tweet me. I loved you in Junior (yes I did). Unfortunately your co-star has his secretary write his tweets for him since he's the terminator.

- Lonnie

Tweet me. If can't tweet then view my profile page and see my tweets and comment on them on my Shoutbox.

My gallery!
My website!

Put your content inside the SUP tags.

</sup>

stock images used

We will be meeting in the morning at Steeps on the 14th of November. Expect to purchase a beverage since the venue is not particularly booked just for us. We are expecting approximately 15 people. If there's more than that it's not an issue.

This is an all ages event.
Hello Calgarians!

If you get this message I have the low down of how you could be best involved in making our next devMEET BIG! Tell all of your friends that are also Calgarians to watch, ~CalgaryMeet. Also add the group on Facebook at [link] so that you can join the growing discussion. We want your thoughts!

The dates are lightly tapped in stone for November 7th or the 14th. I want your feedback on this so that I can adjust the location and dates based on people's availability. I'm on vacation from the 2nd to the 15th. That's my window, but Saturday will probably work best for most people.

HOW TO MAKE IT BIGGER!

Use dA's search engine to find, "Calgary". Search for the newest deviations for Calgary. You'll find a lot of Calgarians that don't realize that there is a strong voice for Calgary on deviantART. Befriend them. Watch their art. And most importantly tell them about our voice.

~CalgaryMeet has been in existance since 2005. We have had over a half a dozen successful devMEETs in the past and I need your help to inform the community that we will always be here and want to meet them!

WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN AT A DEVIANTMEET IN CALGARY!

In my experience most of the people that come to one of our meets have cameras. We usually delve into shooting each other and our environment. Often a few people bring portfolio material with them to show others what they have done and what they are working on. We usually pick an interesting location and branch off from there. We've even had meets were we go-cart and have a blast racing with each other.

We want you to be involved, and only your feedback will shape what we do!

I look forward to meeting you.

Ultimately everyone that comes is very welcome.

IMAGES OF PAST DEVMEETS IN CALGARY

       <img src="http://th08.deviantart.net/fs18/150/f/2007/189/8/1/Calgary_Meet_7_0_Group_Shots...

I wandered into my favorite camera shop today to look at monopods. Most of the good ones cost approximately $100. The thing I really want is a good tripod which will require me to save up about $130. I bloody hate my tripod... I bought it four years ago for $20 and whenever I click it swaggers. Right now looking at a Slik. I really want a Manfrotto.

Why?

Because I want to buy a new bike. Something to take me 14 thousand kilometers across Canada next year. It's currently a dream with soft focus. If I'm going to do it I want a good tripod to come with me.

The bike will probably cost $1400... if I do it... with a $130 tripod in my backpack...

And a $1800 Pentax camera... which is fracking awesome because it shoots HDR onboard.

Anyone have a spare $5000? I don't.
Hello fall! It sure is getting chilly here in in Calgary. Today I was walking to work and watched the leaves falling from the trees into the streets. This is my favorite time of year because of all of the color.

I hope to buy a polarized filter for my camera in the next month or so. I've only really been careful with lighting conditions over the last little while and I'm starting to see where it would come in handy. I'd also love a telephoto lens but for the amount it costs I might as well buy a new camera.

I'm finding that having a cheap unsturdy tripod is really inhibiting me to explore HDR photography, never mind the fact that I have no idea what I'm doing. That's on the list as well. I just don't want it to be overly heavy because I carry my stuff for tens of kilometers on the street when I get on a photo binge.

Anyhoo, just thought I'd update.
I stood at the crux at Yamnuska waiting for an echoing reply from a girl that chased her backpack down a scree slope hidden out of sight. She was so far out of sight that someone with a cell phone dialed rescue services for a helicopter rescue.

Her companion was worried sick. I assured her that even though the terrain was thick with rocks and cliffs that her friend was fine. I had an emergency poncho which I gave to her. We needed to meet with a conservation officer at the bottom of the mountain so the we could coordinate a rescue.

At the top we saw the chopper thumping its way towards the mountain. All of a sudden a woman cried out, "I see a girl in a pink shirt!"

I ran down the scree slope to meet the lost one. She had scrambled up a nasty incline, scraped ankles and a story to tell about how she had been stuck in a crack in some rocks.

From the top I called the rescue services that we had found her and she was ok. The helicopter thumped around and I made a signal. \0\ = don't land. \o/ means yes, land and perform a rescue.

I assured rescue by phone that we would make sure that they got down the mountain safely. The helicopter then sped around the peak and made its way to Canmore from where it came.

I never did meet with the conservation officer, however we did all enjoy the hot springs and recanted the day.

Thank God we didn't do temple. Right up until this day people have opted in then opted out. The roster has changed that of a thousand times. After a rather long 60k bike ride yesterday in which my bike broke unrepairable I proclaimed to my roommate that I was fed up with my plans not working out. After all I was shooting for 100k yesterday and Temple was looking rather glum in respective attendees.

He immediately got excited and said he'd love to bag that peak! And so the race was on! We needed people, supplies and the right stuff.

At 3PM today I spoke to him on the phone and he mentioned that Temple was being rained on. At 3600 feet this means major ice and nasty terrain. As much as I've wanted to bag that bitch I put all stops on it. There's no way I'm going up an already technical scramble without good conditions, and in addition to that with little experience. It all looked bad.

So I got rethinking. Yamnuska is maybe an hour away and isn't particularly plagued with bad weather. It also has a decent reputation at swinging storms away from it. It's not exactly that bitch in the bag but it has enough interesting terrain to make it worth while.

I got to buying the stuff. Full fledged pin number hammering.

- Lightweight pot to cook in
- Slightly used technical backpack (40L)
- Two meal kits.
- Hiking poles.

The idea is we bag Yamnuska tomorrow as early as possible, scree ski down it late afternoon, then bag Ha Ling or Heart with headlamps blazing into the sun down.

I promise many photos.
I first heard about and saw panoramic photography back in 2002 when I took some night courses in college in order to build up my portfolio. One of my teachers at the time boasted that he had more virtual reality equipment than any other studio in Calgary. He was importing his panoramic images into flash and allowing the user to, "tour" places and products (such as private jet interiors) which he had designed websites for. At the time I thought this technology was really cool while at the same time over complicated. Consider that seven years ago the technology was not as easy to understand and you had to buy specific software to create panoramic photos.

While I undertook studies in new media over the next two years one of my projects was to create a panoramic with this overcomplicated software which was my first experience with the medium. What I came up with was a photo manipulation of a roof top in which aliens attacked and fireballs fell out of the sky entitled, "Alternate Ending".

I didn't really think much of it at the time because I was creating a lot of other really interactive projects. After graduating from my diploma program I dabbled mostly in hit and miss web design.

Over the years I have had a couple of loves. Text art, because of nostalgia in BBS technology and the origins of online communication and photography, which as you'll see from my gallery is what I'm actually trying to portray most of my art through. This is the medium I feel really expressive with and want to improve on.

I'm not sure what has drawn me back to panoramic photography. Maybe it's the ease I feel with this medium having been introduced to it when I was first exploring my creative side. Maybe it's even because I want to be really good at it. I don't feel like I'm currently particularly good at it. However I can say with some modesty that I want to be extremely good at it and am confident that with some patience I can develop some technique over the next year or so to be quite original with this medium.

I have decided that that majority of panoramic photography on the internet, in print and even on deviantART is not prevalent in much more than landscape. In fact it lives in mostly landscape. As much as I love landscape and have shot a lot of it haphazardly, I want to involve daily living in my art work.

This journal is mostly for me. It is to reassure me that what I want to do is worth while. All I ask you to do is to watch what I do and sometimes point out where I am going right or where I am going wrong. I will once and a while just shoot a landscape, but mostly I'll make my city of Calgary the focus of my camera.

What I am most proud of in my panos so far:

My gallery!
My website!

Put your content inside the SUP tags.

</sup>

stock images used

^Helewidis posed the question, "If you had the ability to use my journal with its thousands watchers audience, what would you write?". Watch me totally blow it with this journal entry! It's got North Korea, hot dogs, Where's Waldo and a chance to win a date with me!

I almost died today. Somehow the nut that was holding the back wheel of my bike onto the frame fell off/got stolen/was never on there in the first place. I had to buy a new wheel and pay for the labor to install it. Apparently the new black is getting wheels that are removable. hrmmm... the hell with that! I want wheels no one can steal (easily).

A word of advice. When taking your very first yoga lesson make sure it's not an advanced class. Also... don't wear cotton. 15 minutes and 100 poses later I was out of there, sweating like a leaky faucet. Maybe I should start with the beginner stuff!

Latest additions to my gallery:

Is it just me or have I been more physically and mentally active lately?

My gallery!
My website!

Put your content inside the SUP tags.

</sup>

stock images used

My camera and I have formed a new relationship over the last week or so. I have committed myself to taking it everywhere I go for the rest of the summer. Perhaps this is due to a renewed interest in Calgary as a city. I still have a bunch more pictures to submit from the Latin festival which I'll be mostly putting in the photojournalism gallery.

I had an offer to vacation in Rome a couple days ago. Unfortunately I had to move on the tickets too quickly and wasn't able to book the time off. Drats, it was cheap too! This has me thinking of some vacation time in the fall. I have a renewed interest in leaving the country.

It's just like riding a bike! Actually... it's exactly like riding a bike! I have a new beautiful downhill racing bike which I acquired while I was in Creston this summer. This has been my main mode of transportation for the last few weeks, AND I LOVE IT! It joined me at the top of the hill in this following photo.

My gallery!
My website!

Put your content inside the SUP tags.

</sup>

stock images used

This journal shows off my tiny awesome router which I had to take out of retirement. It also points to an awesome project that helps kids in Africa.

My room mate decided to take the wireless router to BC with him for two weeks. No one in the house knows why, but imagine four guys without internet in the same house meeting in the kitchen trying to figure out what to do. That was us.

Then I realized! I had a tiny pocket router by Linksys that I bought years ago!

Meet the Linksys WRT54GC:

This thing is the size of my fist and packs a punch. It allows for four ports by cable or as many as it can allow by wireless. I was worried that we wouldn't be able to all connect to it due to its size, but the transmission speeds are actually better than it's big blue cousins (you know the ones with the big pointy ears).

As far as I can tell Linksys doesn't make this router anymore. If you want this pocket router you better hit eBay. It's freaking sweet. I even got a signal 10 meters away with my PSP in the backyard.

Aside:

I met with a group of Kilimanjaro climbers today for Artumas Africa Foundation at Art Central to show them some gear they need to ascend the largest freestanding mountain on earth.
This is the story of how I found an artist on deviantART and bought her art work in a small town the next day unexpectedly.

For the past week I have been in a small town in British Columbia called Creston. A truely excellent man passed away last month and the family has come together to celebrate his life. I arrived on Tuesday evening.

Upon arriving I was messing around on my media device and did a search on Google for, "deviantart creston BC" just to see if there was any local deviants. One of the results was ~vashley. I looked around her gallery briefly for about 10 minutes and went to bed.

The next day my mother and I took a walk down main street. She was looking for a consignment shop that she had heard about from my cousin's wife who supplies some childrens clothing to the outlet. In the front of the store is a smattering of clothing articles and at the back 5 or 6 wedding dresses. As my mother shopped for yesterday's fashion I happened upon a display case which had some art prints. My jaw dropped a little bit. There in the case was something I had seen on dA the night before. A print of, "Space Rooster" by ~vashley

I asked the owner about it and learned a little bit more about the artist (well not much... just enough to drop 25 bucks for the print).

I think I'll hang it in my kitchen when I get home. Thanks for the art work ~vashley! It's a shame I didn't get to meet you! Drop me a line next time you log in.

My gallery!
My website!

Put your content inside the SUP tags.

</sup>

stock images used

It has been a couple of weeks since I moved into my new home. The roomies have been very kind and respectful so far. I feel like I have to be careful tip toeing around when I gotta pee at 2am. Everything is very clean and organized. I'm not yet used to living with other people but find it very enjoyable when I bump into another resident. The people at work are starting to notice how relaxed I seem to be, with good reason. I am very safe in my new home.

For the last couple of weeks I have been enjoying my new bike. Or so I should say the bike I found in an alley with a sign that said, "free bike". Yesterday I ramped up my activity level and cycled 25 km to our provincial park. I'm starting to get it into my head that I can do more active things. My bike needs some work like having some slicks installed and the gears adjusted.

In August I hope to bag a few more peaks. My next big adventure may be Mount Temple which is the third largest peak in the rocky mountains in Canada. It claims more lives than any other scramble destination in the area. I'll be prepared! I promise!

On June 30th I'll be on a panel of people advising climbers on what gear they need for Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. While I have never scaled it I am confident that I can impart the proper information. This will be the first time I have been in front of a large group of people in an educational fashion since I was a college teacher.

I hope soon to post some pictures of my new place in my scraps. Stay tuned!

My gallery!
My website!

Put your content inside the SUP tags.

</sup>

stock images used

I have lived in the same apartment for three years and absolutely have a hate for the rugs, bathroom and kitchen sink.

Tomorrow I will start moving my things into a much nicer environment. It is a house with four other guys. My room is on the first level with lovely hardwood floors, baby blue paint on the walls and a 20 minute walk to work along 17th ave (Calgarians will agree I am totally set for downtown).

I'll be much happier when I out of this dump. The new place bans parties, booze and drugs.
Today at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida space shuttle Atlantis launched into orbit for the last Hubble telescope repair mission ever. Hubble has taken tens of thousands of pictures of the universe beyond the scope of human imagination. Among many of the repairs are battery supply's, imaging units and instruments that have been off line since 2005. This launch also sets a record for largest payload by one of NASA's shuttles.

What's most astonishing about this mission is that Endeavour is sitting on another launch pad with another crew ready to attempt a rescue should anything go wrong. This is the first time ever that NASA has readied a contingency plan which involves a direct rescue from the ground.

Move over Apollo 13.
I stood in a line at the movie theater on May 7th behind the biggest trekie for 20 mins before I got my ticket. While I waited I noticed that the movie poster for the movie displayed, "May 8". What the hell?! I was watching this sooner than anyone else?

I talked to the trekie in front of me and mentioned how poor the line up was. My mother, the trekie in front of me and the first one in line said, "I guess no one knew it would open this early". I looked behind me and there was three people. It was 7:10 PM. A girl in a yellow car had driven up five minutes earlier and cried out, "What?! They're not open yet?!". After politely explaining that the theater was a bit late opening the doors she sped off disappointed.

Holy shit. I saw Star Trek before you did on May 7th. I know this is a little bit late of a post seeing as the movie has been in theaters for a few days. Hundreds of people lined up for the sneak premier on the same day I did in my city approximately 100 km from the town of Vulcan. But... I wasn't in my city. I was in a town just a 20 mins away at a theater which boasted half price Tuesdays.

Star Trek is the greatest Trek movie ever by far. I have my mother who watched the poorly budgeted original series agreeing with me. By far Star Trek is the old, but totally revamped and agreeable to any fan.

When the movie went to credits all 12 of us clapped!

*SPOILER ALERT*

The original Spock is in the film. I am very glad that someone out there fixed this issue. ANSI/ASCII continues to be the dumping grounds for general scraps and nonsense. I look forward to the day that these galleries are combined into something that no newb would ever consider filling it with.
My sink exploded with city sewage on Saturday. Today I finally had a plumber run a few hundred feet of cable into the drain to unplug the mess. And while that was going on half of my apartment's power shut off with no way to turn it on. So on Wednesday I'm meeting with an electrician to get it working again. Ah, the joys of renting from a slum lord.

But a fantastic thing has happened! I have been inspired to move out and find a safer place to live. By safe I don't just mean fixing these crappy issues. But to find a place that I really like and live with someone else of my choosing. I have been living in my current apartment for three years mostly based on the extremely cheap rent. Now that the economy is a mess I have a lot of luxury in picking what I want for the price that I want, even cheaper and with someone that I want to live with.

Having lived here three years I have had a few room mates, and one of them was exceptional (another deviant). But to be on the other end of not choosing who I live with, but actively interviewing current residents I am actually very happy.

So the sink exploded. So the power went haywire. So it has been a very bad overall situation. Oh well. Now I'm in control of where I want to live rather than where I have to live. It's a mixed feeling and I really appreciate the uncertainty.

If you live in the Calgary area, know someone that needs a room mate that has no interests in throwing a party every second day and has a half decent place, throw me a line. I'm just looking for a safe place with less responsibility.

What I desire in a room mate:

- Someone that doesn't drink every day and certainly doesn't bring a bunch of people with booze into the place.
- A professional.
- Someone that is rather clean.
*yawn*

What a long day for me. One of my ways to unwind lately had been to look for podcasts to download to my new favorite media device, my PSP. Podcasts and PSP's are not new in the slightest. I'll admit I'm usually the late adopter of technology. Probably because I want to see it prove itself before I jump on board. Thankfully even when technology ages the good ones provide current content.

Here's three podcasts that I really enjoy.

1. Off The Hook

Off the Hook is a hacker-oriented weekly talk radio program hosted by Emmanuel Goldstein. Emmanuel has been publishing 2600 since 1984, a quarterly hacker magazine. I have been reading 2600 magazine for the last couple of years and own the rather thick hardcover book, "The Best of 2600". Off The Hook is an extension of the magazine and hacker culture for the air waves.

2. TWiT (this WEEK in TECH)

There's a whole bunch of shows under this umbrella. It's a bunch of talk shows about all sorts of subjects mostly about the media and media technologies. I'm rather new to listening to these shows but so far am impressed at their professional quality.

3. SLAY Radio Live Show Archive

SLAY radio is a streaming audio internet radio station that is mostly automated which broadcasts C64 music and remixes. The archive consists of live shows which interrupt the play list. For the most part, "The BBB" is the most frequent. It's hosted by Boz who talks about what he wants talk about in a cheesy way, plays tunes by request and talks to chatters on an IRC channel while broadcasting. It's an acquired taste and if you have no idea what C64 music is you won't get much out of it. However if you'd like to try it Boz certainly adds a lot of personality to the show.

4. The Vinyl Cafe [CBC Radio]

"The Vinyl Cafe stories are about Dave, owner of the second hand record store, and they are collected in books and on CD. The stories also feature Dave's wife, Morley, their two children, Sam and Stephanie, and assorted friends and neighbours."

All of the stories are by Stuart McLean, a Canadian author. They are very humorous, meant for live radio, but can be heard by all on the internet afterwards. Stuart McLean is the host of the show and reads them live as he sees them in his own mind. I've listened to this show off and on since I was a teenager. As a new or infrequent listener you can jump in on a show and take away an entirely new experience apart from the whole story that has been told since, as far as I know, the early 90's.

deviantART podcast?

Apparently there's going to be a podcast by deviantART which is currently being worked on! $Moonbeam13, $chix0r and an unnamed staff member have confirmed it! Stay tuned to dA for your portable device listening!

That's all I know about it... I'm hoping a staff member will note me and tell me more about it. I won't publish anything sent by note.

Pick three subjects that seem interesting about deviantART a month, speak your thoughts and mix in some music in between each subject. Maybe even record Skype conversations with other artists.

How to mix the whole thing together? Well there's more than enough free open source programs to do it. Audacity is pretty easy to learn and use. Then all you need is some web space large enough to transfer the same program to 10,000 plus people if the program gets popular...

... oh wait. This is what it's going to cost me to produce photos from my half arsed cog box? In retrospect I shouldn't have bought prints and should have stuck with a CD of images. Even so... $80+

I'm not even showing Canadian tax.

On that note out of 36 shots these were the half decent ones (it cost me almost a hundred dollars to bring these to dA. At least have the decency to comment on them):

According to the Lomo's manual I got with the camera, "The Action Sample is not a finely tuned piece of apparatus made only of the finest in hand-crafted modern materials, it's made of plastic. It is not a precision instrument with settings for the slightest nuance in aperture and lighting, it won't even take a flash. And the lenses are moody little beasties, reluctant to let any light get to the film at all".

I'm really enjoying my new toy

Today a co-worker and I went to the camera store for kicks. I saw a Lomo action sampler in the display window and inquired about it. $50 bucks later I was the proud owner of the simplest tacky box with cogs including some 1600 ISO film (not sure if it's special other than it's fast). Later in the day I shopped at a Black's and purchased some chrome film (the fee includes a voucher for processing). I haven't shot film since early 00's which was black and white on an old Pentax. So... I guess it's time to try it out again! I like the idea of shooting a moment of time in one second. Hopefully weather permitting I'll have some fun lomo shots under my belt in the next month or so for your viewing.

On another note I posted a poll a couple of days ago: Should the ANSI and ASCII galleries be amagulated (become one gallery)?

It looks so far like people would like to see ANSI/ASCII joined as one gallery. I think it's a rather important poll. I'd like to see your vote if you haven't already done so. According to the text art GM, "I've been serious thinking of this for more than a month. But if it's going to removed or merged, it takes time..."

Mostly I got it so that I can access WiFi hotspots and use it as an MP3 player. I really like playing video games so I figured it was a better investment than an iPod. It came with a game called Ratchet & Clank which I've played all of 20 seconds of. I also bought Final Fantasy, the remake of the original NES classic which really appeals to me. Old games are the best!

I'm not really fond of how big the PSP is but I'm sure it will grow on me.

And as for playing Xenogears, well I went ahead and bought a Logitech game controller which is pretty much a PS2 controller without the rumble pack and enough USB extension wire to play it from my bed on lazy days, like today!

I still haven't gotten my skis mounted, and just as well since the ski season is pretty much at an end.

I am now an authority of postsecret according to Google if you base it on my name. If you search for, "Lonnie Taylor" on it's own you get a different result (no... I don't molest children).

In optimizing yourself as a fan for certain interests you can optimize your website or if you're known for something be more publicly available on Facebook without being totally viewable by profile.

I have used spaces and @'s to make sure this document is viewable. Delete them if you wish to make this work.

Note that if your top five interests are not shown on your intro page you won't be indexed for it. That's why you may want to consider removing yourself as a fan of certain pages, adding yourself to others as needed and re-adding later if you really want to be a fan.

There's a bunch of people that are watching me that create text art and/or are authorities on the subject. The text art gallery director role has recently opened up (yah, I know it's not called GD anymore... but I liked that title). If you are interested in the position please visit $Moonbeam13's journal here.

As a former gallery director of text art I somewhat know what the role would involve. Mostly it involves making people aware of the genre. When I took the role there had never been a text art GD so I ended up spending a lot of time clearing miscats and ensuring there where daily deviations as often as possible. I also spent considerable time educating the rest of the team on text art so that people would know what it was all about.

In my opinion this role is best suited to someone that is willing to sit down at their computer for at least an hour a day assuming a communications role. This would involve talking to text artists, encouraging new artists to create more text art and meeting operative objectives, ie. projects such as contests and following procedure.

In addition to this I highly suggest you at least know what ANSI/ASCII is and its notable history. If you don't then you're going to get all sorts of notes from people asking you why you don't make the effort. Understanding typography isn't enough unless dA removes ANSI/ASCII galleries (I'll freak if they do).

What they want is someone to, "light a fire under it". I'll leave that to your own interpretation.

I keep cooking the wrong things like for instance I boil some shanghi noodles but crack an egg into it and he complains. I also cook a bunch of tiny horses like they are chicken wings. Finally I find some cake mix and decide to make a cake. I show my room mate some baking pans for the cake parts that have a slicing attachment at the bottom of the round pan that separate the cake from the pan. I ask him to go buy some iceing. I have some leftover cake. There are three pans. Two are the same shape and one is smaller. The oven light is on.

Fuck, I even saw a shrink for it.

2009 is going to be different. I don't know how yet, but I know why.
Due to the earths orbit this year most New Years Eve count downs will take one more second. 10 - 9 - 8.... 0

According to a blog, "...in the news was about the extra second that is going to be added to clocks all around the world at the end of this month. It's a big deal. The earth whirls around on its orbit and, apparently, even though outer space is a vacuum and there should not be any friction, it is slowly but surely slowing down. Scientists are predicting that the earth will even come to a halt someday..."

The China Daily reports, "The world's official timekeepers have added a "leap second" to the last day of the year today, to help match clocks to the Earth's slowing spin on its axis, which takes place at ever-changing rates affected by tides and other factors."

What could possibly cause this? A look close to home begins to reveal some answers. Did you know that the moon moves one inch away from the earth every year?

A Yahoo Answers user writes, "Approximately 4.7 billion years ago a large asteroid hit the newly formed earth when it was still in its molten lava state. The large asteroid sent billions of bits of rocks in to outerspace where they orbited the earth for thousands of years until they eventually formed the moon we see today. Scientists have analyzed rock samples from the moon and have identified them as being very similar in composition to rocks and minerals found on the earth. Obviously, the moon fluctuates slightly in the orbit around the sun because of the gravity influenced between the two bodies."

This phenomenon among thousands to billions result in small changes in the earth's orbit, making 2008 one second longer. Consider other galaxies, bodies of material, stars and black holes in our galaxy and their effects on the entire integrity of the universe as we know it!

Learn a new recipe which will become your next favorite meal.
3. Don't rely on things that are fast and easy. Take your time and enjoy the process. Instead of buying McDonalds make some cheap sandwiches that are more healthy.
4. Let other people know you don't want to drink very much or none at all. Invent other drinks during social meetings which are tasty, or warm or satisfying.
5. Get off of the internet. Maybe that means you use it every second day, or you just check your email until the new year.
6. Commit yourself to reading a book, magazine or the latest buzz topic.
7. Call your mother every day. Then call your friend. Then call your long lost friend. Reconnect your social network beyond Facebook.
8. Sleep more. A lot more! It's darker this time of year and your body is going to need more of it!
9. Clean your house every day. Then invite people over to see how awesome you live. Show the hospitality!
10. Find a list of barriers. The stuff that makes it too busy or inconvenient to partake in consuming alcohol.

I hope that this is useful to someone out there.

I have a bunch of ideas on how to fake a four lens lomo shot and how that would look in 8 frames. However I feel extremely unmotivated.
I was at work today putting away some stock. I sell high end sporting goods for adventure seekers (climbing harnesses, ice axes, tents and the full deal). Apa Sherpa is coming to our store on the 23rd (climbed Everst 17 times mostly not on oxygen).

While I was stocking some wicked ass mountaineering boots I hear from the sales floor...

"I'm looking for Lonnie. Where is Lonnie?"

I called out that I was in the back room. This guy comes around the corner and reaches out his hand. He says, "I'm Aaron".

Of course as a manager I'm thinking this guy is here for an interview. And then I see my father...

"Holy shit!" I say! You're Aaron! This is my half brother... I have not seen him since I was six. Here he is staring me in the eye and I have no idea what to say. I'm completely blown away.

I knew he moved to Calgary a week ago. I had no idea I'd be staring him in the eye face to face this soon.

So anyways, we hugged kinda. I'm really looking forward to getting to know him.

I'm absolutely shocked.

Stuff I'd like to do with my long lost brother:

He's much more of a outdoors man than I am.
