I'm really, really busy with my job, which I totally love. Then there's my girlfriend and our beloved cats. And, if that's no enough, I started [link] in August 2006. That site takes more and more of my time, but it's also making more and more fun everyday. The community is growing damn fast, and so is the help from companies that make such great games. I managed to get in touch with Electronic Arts, who send us their latest games to test them and give 'em away in a raffle. This is UN-BE-LIEV-A-BLE! It's so great what is happening there :-)

Oh, yes, and I'm working on the website of *designerscouch which also is a lot fun. Everything is on a really professional level, pretty much like here in the office, but it's a different kind of work. I always had problems working on a design with other people, so I'm currently doing more technical work for dC. That's pretty interesting for me, because I don't see myself as a programmer, but with wiiarefree and dC I got the opportunity to have a closer look.

So, you see, I got a lot of stuff to do, and that's what I like. So, sorry for not submitting that much designs as I did in the past, but I think I found some things in my life that are worth spending time with them: work, girlfriend, cats, wiiarefree, dC.

Sometimes there is that something, what comes into your heart, when you don't even notice, and that is when it starts. Isn't that the story of most of us? For me, it's more than just a place to upload my work. DeviantArt is full of dedicated people. Some habe enormous skills in what they do, others are at the beginning of their carrer, but all of them show the same dedication and love (well, most of them).

When I registered here on deviantArt on the 3rd of January, 2003, I never thought of being an active member of this community for so long. In fact, it's 1282 days since I joined. That means I'm here for about 7% of my lifetime. Questions?

I really enjoined nearly every day in here. I learned a lot from the community and I'm still learning. Just to mention a few names I'm totally impressed of:

^depthskins - He's is doing so much for the community with being the admin of *designerscouch and the director of the designs & interfaces category.

°liquisoft - I'm a huge fan of this font "Fonce Sans" which helped me in a lot of projects. I also read nearly every of his journals and try to give feedback when needed.

°jark - Anything to tell about him? He's the yellow alien! He has my full support.

*Kwaku - One of the best webdesigners I've ever seen.

There are a lot more who inspired me through the years, but I can't name them all. Go and check out *designerscouch, they're all impressive.


Giving something back

During the years I released a LOT of free webdesigns and flash stuff. I'm also still working on free Wordpress themes ([link]) and widgets ([link]).

I also tried to give feedback when needed, answer all questions and help out where I can. I even spent some money for °jark when he was in need.

What else can I do? How can I help you or the community in general? Tell me your ideas, I'm open for anything!


Where is all that leading?

I have no idea. I put some of my deviations back on display and released some new stuff. I still enjoy my stay here with you. I don't know what will happen during the next years or if deviantArt will still exist then, but hey, who cares? Let's enjoy!

today is the day deviantART is celebrating it's 5th anniversary. I'm here for nearly 4 years now and learned a lot from the community. I've seen designs I never thought of, and I met people who are much better than the average. I also gave something back to the community, with giving away a lot of website designs as PSD, FLA or even HTML/CSS for free.

I took a short brake during the last months because I was just so damn busy and had nothing to show here on DA. And that is what brings me back here:

The openBC openDESIGN challenge. Maybe you've read my last 2 journals, linking to my submissions to this contest. Now week 4 is launching and I submitted openLIFE ([link]). You can read some detailed thought of me and the openDESIGN site.

Yeah, it's a nice day, a really good start to the week. And last but not least, Apple is starting the World Wide Developer Connection today. New products, weeeeeeee! :)

In my opinion THE web 2.0 site should look like web 2.0. I agree that following trends isn't the answer to all design questions, but I also think that openBC can and should go one step further. Call it web 2.1 if you like.

Now, that’s the layout I made. Lots of web 2.0 stuff, easy for the eye and a well sorted content area. It’s about the people, social networking at it’s best. Your mind is the only limit. After some feedback from the past 2 weeks I change the colors to the actual openBC style. More business, classic look. openCLASSIC.

A project in school is to create a booklet for a band or a musician of 8 pages. My problem: it has to be about electronic music. I hate techno! :-)

At the moment I often get messages telling me that I use photos and art of other people.

First: my website [link]
My website is a template I bought at templatemonster.com to learn how the designer implemented the 3D artworks, because I got a project with 3D stuff, too, and the SWF file was really big. I've just been wondering how he managed to get the file down to 300KB. After I bought that template I just wanted to use it for something (hey, I payed money for it!). The easiest way was to use it for my personal site.

Second: some images here at deviantart
Sometimes a designer finds some cool photos, or got some ideas but doesn't know how to realize. It's fact that I am not a professional photographer, but that doesn't mean that I don't like photography. I'm really interested in that way of art and want to get a little bit deeper in the near future.
All photography I use for websites, designs, prints or anything else are ALWAYS (!!) free stock art or bought and licensed. Prints are stock art only.

The end
So, if you post things in my guestbook, telling that I am an art thief, you should think about it, first. Shouting and pointing a finger on someone is always pretty easy, but the wrong way to clear things up.
If you are one of this persons, please go away, don't blame me and have a nice life.

Well, I don't know if the internet is the right place to talk about politics, but this is something I sometimes think about and don't find a reason nor a solution for this.

Maybe you know this story:
Tow germans are on their holidays in the Netherlands. They're walking though the streets of Amsterdam and talking about something without any meaning.
Two dutch mention that the both guys are german and shout "Hey germans, you lost something". The germans are watching around, searching something they've lost. They can't see it. They ask "What?". What do you guess the answer is? "The war!".

Things like this are happening and I don't blame anyone for this. For sure Hitler and the Nazis are part of the german history and it would be wrong to forget what happend or stop talking about it. It's part of every german, like pain in the soul, to be not able to say "I'm proud to be german". Did you ever hear a german saying this? It doesn't happen that often.

Even I am not proud to be a german. But I'm proud to be myself, to be part of a generation that has learned and understood.

We cannot change the past. And if we could, would we? Fact is, that no one, NO ONE is able to say "I would have fought against the Nazis and Hitler". You wouldn't. That's surprising on the one hand, and fills myself with fear on the other hand. Maybe you've seen the movie "The Wave". If you haven't, you should. It's based on a true story, remind that if you watch it.

Another thing is that most germans hate Nazis and people who say things like "germans first, the stragers are doing nothing and take our money".

I'm pretty sure there are more Nazis, or Neo-Nazis, in the USA, China, Russia and maybe some more countries.

This shouldn't be an excuse for what Germany, my country, even my grandfather has done. But please, open your eyes. Don't blame me and my generation for things we are not responsible for. Yes, we are responsible to give our best that things like this never happen again, and we will.

As you can see right here, on deviantArt, it's possible to work, have fun and find new friends all over the world, without any thought about gender, nationality or religion. This is the future. We are the future. And we are now. So let's do our best to make this world a better place.

as I promised here are the scripts I'm using on my own website (watch out!). Please notice that they aren't high professional software, but well, they work. Thanks again to Michael Schlösser for coding.

What do your scripts do?
The first script parses your gallery at deviantArt. All your deviations will be put into a text file which can be included in a website easily. To be more precise: It creates a list of links to all your deviations.
The second script parses your latest journal. This is for all the people out there who love DA and don't have a need for running a complete newsscript on their own website.

How to set up that thing?
A HOWTO.txt is included. It describes the steps in a few words. It's pretty easy to run!

after a few days in berlin i'm back in bonn, having lots of work and all that stuff, but the weather is great. i really like the air here, directly at the rhine, smells like holidays you know :-)

holidays hmmmm, trying to spend them with my girlfriend in late summer, but dunno where, maybe spain. hope you all have some nice days and the weather is as great as it is here!

I'd like to welcome you to my late march journal :-)

On friday I'll fly to berlin, visiting my lovely girlfriend I love, adore and need so much. I'll be back on wednesday. During the last months my amount of work increased so much, it is really hard for me to have time for friends and so, I hope they understand.
And even if it is a hard time we live in, it looks like I've got really good chances to start a nice career not only as designer. Things go really well and I love my job and everything that is part of it, even if I work 80 hours a week or so.

I'm sure it's not that easyto understand, but my job is everything for me. I don't wanna get famous or so, but I wanna reach something, make something out of my life.

So here we go, fresh and juicy ;-)

I really like to work with a talented young girl named Susanne here, and I hope she will teach me some more flash :-)
I learned a lot by Jörgen Engdahl who works in Cologne. He is a great flash artist. Anyway we're working an different things, huge projects...lots of money...lots of work.
