Been watching this Anime, Baccano, on Funimation's youtube channel: [link]
It's an interesting watch, I'd recommend checking it out.

It's a little tough to explain exactly what the premise of the show is. All I can really do is list off features like that it takes place, for the most part, in the 1920/30s, it's got gangsters, thieves, mystery, murder, and a train called the flying pussyfoot.

The last two episodes are only available in subtitles, but it's still worth watching all the way through.

So I watched TF2 ROTF last night on DVD and being the second time to watch the film since I saw it in the theaters, I have to say it still doesn't seem like that bad of a film as it'd been made out to be. It by no means is a good film either, but it's not the blight on humanity that critics and whana-be critic blogers claim it was.
Also for around a 2 hour film, it seems to breeze by pretty quickly. I think that may be my personal problem with the film. It never feels like it takes the time to set a mood, it's just rushing right though everything all the time.

TF3 is apparently just going into production and will be out 2011. So look forward to seeing that piss off millions of people allover again.

I have the 2 disk DVD so I was watching the extras, boy that is depressing. All this video of all these people who worked on the film and the new toys, they're so proud of all this hard work and in the end people just fucking despise it.
I mean not everyone obvioulsy, but it seems the majority of people just hate these films, and hate what they've done to Transformers.
I know it sounds stupid, but it's a little disheartening when you think about it.

So other then that, not much going on with me. Spent most of the day sleeping really...Boy I live a full and enriching life, don't I?

Haven't been drawing anything, don't care enough to be drawing anything.
I had the idea to maybe draw up a bunch of classic movie monsters for Halloween, but then I noticed that it's only about a week away and I really don't have the drive to draw up that many pics in one week just to post online and get a few empty favs out of it.

Bought a new mouse recently, so I am no longer having issues with clicking on things...Yay...

Haven't really been drawing anything. Tried working on that stupid pic that I had originally ment to draw during shark week, but got lazy and never finished.
Really just feeling kinda "Blah" about drawing in general as of late. I really can't get myself to be motivated to draw or work on anything.

In other news, I've noticed recently that there are quite a few video games I own that I've never finished. I really should try and finish them sometime...After I'm done with Fallout 3 that is. Wich probably won't be any time soon seeing as I bought both the add ons, and I've not even finished the main game yet.
But I'm going to, cause I actually really like this game.
That's the problem with some of the other games I own, I'd play them up to a point and then just stop; either because I got board of it, I hit a part that was just too aggravating that I gave up, or because something important came up irl and I'd forget about it.

In case you're wondering, these games are:

Nintendo GC
Zelda Wind Waker (If I recall why I stopped playing this, it was because it got too tedious toward the end where I had to collect scolls or something, I can't remember exactly. But I really should just sit myself down and play through this thing. Maybe this'll be the first on my list after I finish Fallout 3.)
Metroid Prime (Can't really remember why I Never finished this. But I really should.)

PS1
Final Fantasy 9 (Infact the only FF game I own. Played it up to a point and then forgot about it.)
Chrono Cross (Pretty much the same thing as with FF9, played it to a point, then forgot about it.)

PS2
Resident Evil 4 (Played it up to a point, stopped, forgot about it.)
Psychonauts (Played it up to the last point, but it got too hard, so I gave up.)
Maximo Ghosts and Glory (Too, fucking, hard.)
Ratchet and Clank (Couldn't get past this one crazy level toward the end, gave up. Never played any of the sequels as a result.)
Gun (Actually can't remember why I never finished playing this game. I think I just got board of it.)
Odin Sphere (Really beautiful side scrolling action RPG. But the micro management aspect of the item system turned me off. I may still try and finish it though.)
Shadow of the Colossus (This game actually intimidates me.)
Champions of Norrath (I think I either lost or accidentally deleted my saved game.)
GTA 3 and GTA Vice City (Do you even really need to finish these games? Does anybody really care?)
Dirge of Cerberus (Played through the training levels, didn't like the controls, never played it again. Don't know why I still own it frankly.)
Spawn Armageddon (The game sucks...That's pretty much it.)
KillZone (I just don't like playing first person shooters with a game pad. Give me a keyboard and a mouse any day.)
Ultimate Spiderman (What would have been a really good Spiderman game if it weren't for some really stupid challenges that are harder then they need to be. Never got past the one chase level with Venom, probably never will. Probably should sell this stupid game.)
Samurai Legend Musashi (This game lost my interest mainly for having some really clunky controls. But I kept it because it had a really trippy art style...Which I never really get to see, cause i never play it.)

I have some PC games too that I've never finished, but I think I'm just going to end this here.

I finally got to see District 9 recently and I've been meaning to post my thoughts on it.
It's really hard though to think of anything worth saying about this film since most of it has already been said. All I can really think to say is it was good. I could go into the more overblown praise, but like I said, at this point it'd be kind of redundant.
This was just a really good movie.

I felt it was a new milestone in scifi, while at the same time being a very classic type of story in the scifi genre. If that makes any sense.
It had that same feeling of the kind of tales you might have seen from the Twilight zone or Outer limits; only much more refined and modern.
Everthing is done to a point to make it feel as believable as a movie like this can be. Only the most cynical of viewers won’t be able to let themselves get taken into the experience this film creates.
Director Neill Blomkamp did an amazing job blending together two films styles that I honestly wouldn't have thought would work, but he pulled it off.
The movie goes between the styel of a documentary and a traditional film. At first thought you'd think this would come off as a clunky mess, but it actually flows so smoothly together that you barely notice it at first.

Blomkamp had apparently commented just before the film's release that if it did well, he'd be interested in doing a sequel. I actually hope that he doesn't. I think this film is perfect just the as is. I worry that a sequel would be unnecessary, and may even hurt the experience of the original film. *Cough-"Matrix"-Cough*

I could comment on other things about the film, but mostly it'd just be me going "Wow that was cool." So I'll just end this now.

In other news:
I really need to start drawing more. And I need to start enjoying it more as well. Lately drawing for me has felt tedious and just something I'd rather avoid doing...That's not good.
I need to try and get myself out of this funk. Otherwise I might as well sell my digital tablet to someone who'd actually get some use out of it.

Heh, you see what I did there?...Wood stock, get it?...Yeah well fuck you too.

I just read this interesting article by an original attendee of the fabled 69 Woodstock, and how it maybe wasn't the wondrous magical experience most believe it to have been.
[link]

Being born in 1981, anything I ever knew of Woodstock was just stories of some kind of epic moment in the lives of the human race, in where for a sort time there existed nothing but the pure essence and innocents of love and peace. Oh yeah, and apparently there was this music concert thing going on as well.

As I got older, the stories of Woodstock would continue to come up every now and again, and the older I got, the more I questioned that the whole concept of it being an example of greatness in our history might be little more then a delusion. Especially when I found out what drugs were, and the part they played in the whole affair.

Recently we're seeing a new revival of the magical image of the 69 Woodstock gathering, with nostalgic media in the form of CDs and DVDs, As well as a new movie called Taking Woodstock.
I personally thought the myths of Woodstock officially died back in 1999 in where a futile attempt to recreate the magic of 69 for this generation, ended in violent riots, fires, and other nasty events. I remember seeing that on TV and how the bitter half of me laughed at how appropriate this was to usher in the new age of reality, and how the concepts of Woodstock promoting peace and love was in fact little more then an acid trip induced delusion by a bunch of stoned hippies.

I'm more then sure that most everyone has seen these by now, (Unless you have a Subscription.) but I just found this so absurdly hilarious that I had to comment on it.

Awhile back ads for some online game called Evony started popping up all over the place, the ads featured a lovely medieval looking maiden, with a generous amount of cleavage, the logo of the game, and a caption along the lines of "Play our free web game."
And you know what, that's fine. That ad seemed generally straight forward. But then the ads got replaced with this one: [link]
Now we have just some CGI chick in a skimpy top. The outfit doesn't even look medieval now, in fact the only indication of a medieval theme is the caption: "Start your journey now, my lord."
And look at the game's logo. It's minuscule! You can hardly read it, and you'd never even really notice it unless you were really looking for it. I would say that this ad almost looks like it's for some adult site or something. That is untill I saw this one: [link]
... Now they're not even trying to be subtle. The whole ad is just a close up of a pair of breasts in a lace bra. The ad is now just literally saying: "Look, boobies! Now play our game."

And you know what, it worked. Cause at this point I had been driven to mad curiosity to see if any of this had anything to actually do with the game; so I signed up to give it a try.
The game of Evony is a online MMO micro management game. A sims game. From what I could figure out, you basically run your own village and trade and go to war with other player's villages. I don't play many micro management games, so I can't really comment if it's a good one or not. But if you're interested in that genre, then go ahead and give it a look...It's free.

Of course the game has nothing to do with it's ridiculous ads. No boobies in the game what so ever! Not even like a gif image of a busty wench that pops up and says "Excellent job me lord." whenever you complete a task. At least that would have made sense in contrast to the ads!
I know a lot of people go for the whole sex sells anything approach to ad campaigns, but Evony did it on a scale that's downright laughable. It almost feels like a joke, like it's a parity or something. My best guess is that maybe they just weren't getting enough players, so they just decided Fuck it, just make the ad a pair of boobs.

Im sorry, I just had talk about this. I thought it was too funny to ignore.

In other news: I will try and post something new soon. At the momant I'm working on something that's taking my full attention.

Well now that TF2 has come and gone, and my unhealthy obsession with that film has started to subside,(Untill the next one.) my anticipation can move to other films on the horizon. These are just some that have caught my attention.

Sherlock Holmes:
[link]
Robert Downey Jr stars in an unconventional take on the classic detective. This film just looks like it'll be a fun watch.

9:
[link]
I mentioned this in a previous journal, it's a film produced by Tim Burton and writen and directed by Shane Acker. I have always liked dark and crazy gothic character designs like this, so that's mainly what drew my attention to this trailer.
I don't really expect this film to do very well, since the whole gothic art style has pretty much been ruined by the "emo" punk trend of today, and the subsequent mass hatred for said subculture. But I still think it looks like it could be a neat little film. Probably one to wait for on DVD.

Ponyo:
[link]
Hayao Miyazaki films have always been enjoyable and enchanting to watch. So that's reason enough alone to want to see this.
Ponyo definitely looks to be more on the kiddy side of films, so it may not appeal to everyone, but it still looks interesting.

District 9:
[link]
This movie looks like it could go either too ways, it could be a really unique and different take on a tired film genre, or go the way of I am Legend, and become boring and pointless.
What really grabed me about this trailer was the gritty realism of the effects. The art style reminded me very much of the PC game Half life. In fact the premises of the film feels like something that would take place in the world of Half life.
The movie is actually a loose adaptation of a short film done by the director, Neill Blomkamp, called Alive in Joburg: [link]
I could see the indie-film crowd being somewhat disgusted that the director went a more action movie approach with the theatrical version, opposed to the original which is much more of an art film.

I've noticed fewer and fewer people seem to reply on my journals anymore. I can only really assume that my years of being a angsty dick has finally driven off most of them. So it really seems like a waste of time to keep updating these.
But since I got to see the new Star Trek film the other day, and I felt like giving some of my thoughts on it, and most of my life is basically comprised of wasted time, I'm going to do this anyway.

In short, I thought it was good.
And from what I've been hearing, it seems a lot of people thought it was good. Of course the thought on everyone's minds is probably, what do the fans think? And from what I've heard...It's not very good.
The biggest complant I've heard is about how this film is not canonical with any previous Star Trek. Which I'm sure most of you would reply: "duh". Because most of you, even if you haven't seen it yet, would recognize that the film is a reboot. It is a completely new version of the ST universe. But, at the same time, that's not completely true.

Spoiler:

The film's antagonist is a royally pissed off romulan from the future, (Of the future setting of this Trek universe, which I suppose technically would have been the present of the previous Trek universe. Which was originally a depiction of our future...Oh, my brain seems to be making a weird popping noise...I better stop.) who kills Kirk's father by destroying the ship he was stationed on.
Now, the reason this is significant is because Kirk's father originally lived to see his son become captain of the Enterprise; when his death occurs in this film, Kirk is still a baby, thus creating an alternate time line.
This is basically the writer's little *wink* to why this movie's universe has nothing to do with any previous Trek series.

However, a lot of Trek fans have apparently taken personal offense to these turn of events. To them, this means that Alex Kurtzman is basically saying that all the previous serises now don't exist. Because Trek fans appently think the Star Trek universe is real...I can only assume they think if they try and pop in thier disks of the original series and movies, they're DVD players will just display an empty screen of white noise.
I have something to say to you if you think that the original Star Trek continuity is dead; and that is: it already was!
Star Trek needed this. The franchise had boldly gone as far as it could go. And just because you don't like the reboot, doesn't mean you can't enjoy the orignals. They are still there. They didn't go anywhere. You just wont be getting anymore continuations from that universe. Which frankly is a good thing; because there is only so many times you can rehash the same set up, over and over and over again with a different crew and new star ship.
The old continuity is over...Deal with it. Time to move over for the new Trek generation.

Wow, that rant about the fans actually went a little longer then I originally planed.
Maybe I'll do more of an actual review later.

I've noticed recently that apparently a lot of people concider the art styling of most 90s comic books to be the worst art to ever hit the genre.
I find this to be a bit confusing since a lot of my favorite comic book artists were doing comics during the 90s. Artist's like Joe Mad and Todd Mcfarlane were big influences on my own art styles; so to hear that it apparently is held fairly low to most of the fandom comes as kind of a blow to me.
This must be what it feels like to be a Creed fan...

A lot of the details I've heard pointed out are things like exagerated anatomy(Huge hulking muscles and such.) and extreme forced perspective poses and angles. Which I always thought was the point of trying to draw a cool action scene in a comic, but apparently not. It's funny too, because I actually have a art book titled "Drawing Cutting Edge Comics" that teaches you how to draw this way.
I guess if I know what's good for me, I'll burn this book immediately.

I know all I'm doing here is whining, but it's hard to take in that something you based most of who you are as an artsit on is apparently widely hated.
It kind of kills the old creativity, ya know? And it's not like I have much of that left to spare these days either.

Also, I'm going to kill off that dumb little sketch a day thing I was doing, cause I was really getting tired of trying to draw up some piece of shit sketch every damn day. In fact, better question, what would you pay for a digital commission?

A one character, no background, black and white digital drawing. What do you think would be a fair price for that?

I suppose you need to factor in the quality of the artist's skill as well. Which in this case would be me.

-----------

Sketch a day count so far:

Sketch #1: [link]

Sketch #2: [link]

Sketch #3: [link]

Sketch #4: [link]

Sketch #5: [link]

Sketch #6: [link]

Sketch #7: [link]

Sketch #8: [link]

Sketch #9: [link]

Sketch #10: [link]

Sketch #11: [link]

Sketch #12: [link]

Feel free to chuck ideas at me, I might sketch it.
Modernized revamp of the popular TF song

[link]

As far as I've seen, the reaction has ranged from slight enthusiasm, indifference, to down right disgust.

I think what kills it for a lot of people is the random rap bit. It does feel like it was just thrown in there in a futile attempt to cross genres.
That said, I feel it's a fair try at updating the song to a more modern sound. Face it 80s fans, Hair band rock is a dated genre.

For the most part, I like this version. I feel the overall sound has a bit more passion to it. imo
It could have used a little fine tuning. Like I said, the rap bit is rather jarring at first if you're not use to that genre being in rock. And even if you are, it still kinda feels out of place for this song.

In short, not bad, but not awesomely great either. I dare say it's rather average for todays style of rock. But still, Stan gets a "cheers" from me for effort.

-----------

Sketch a day count so far:

Sketch #1: [link]

Sketch #2: [link]

Sketch #3: [link]

Sketch #4: [link]

Sketch #5: [link]

Sketch #6: [link]

Sketch #7: [link]

Sketch #8: [link]

Sketch #9: [link]

Feel free to chuck ideas at me, I might sketch it.
I watched the premiere of Krod Mandoon tonight, and I liked it.
It spoofs old fantasy shows like the adventures of Hercules or Xena warrior princess; but unlike most parities, like the Scary movie franchise, this show is actually funny.
The only thing I can think of that's similar to this show is the Venture Bros. It has that same kind of thing going for it in where it almost takes the story it's telling half seriously, but at the same time mocks it'self with quick witted humor. Unlike most comedy shows like South Park or Family guy, which just continue to toss dick jokes at you till you laugh out of boredom.
The only part I thought was lame was the slutty girlfriend, which looks to be the show's running gag. It just failed to be funny. If they could have found a way for it to have some of that "wit" the rest of the show seems to have, I wouldn't have mind it at all. But the fact of the matter was that it pretty much bombed the moment it was set up.
You almost get the feeling that this part of the show was just thrown in because some Comedy Central producer, who thumbed through the script, said: "This is ok. But you know what it needs? It needs something sexy. Lets make his girlfriend a slut, sluts are funny."
There was also the stereotypical "gay dude who's way too open about his sex life." which is a really tired gag. But, eh, what are ya gonna do? It seems like it's almost mandatory to have a goofy gay guy in every comedy show at this point.

That aside, it still was a pretty enjoyable comedy that I'd recommend checking out.

Well, I have been trying to get the hang of that new version of Photoshop that came with my new digital tablet, because my old version, photoshop 5, just wouldn't seem to work on Vista, and I've been able to kind of draw up a couple crapy little pics: [link] [link] and color an old drawing that I originally drew in photoshop 5: [link] but overall, the more I try and work with PSE 6.0 the more it just makes me mad.

This is an extremely non-user friendly program, it just seems to be bogged down by needlessly complicated and complex bull shit.
The thing that is hindering me the most is the airbrush tool...there doesn't seem to be one...There's a tab or something that looks like an airbrush tool, but as far as I've been able to figure out, when you click on it, it really doesn't do a god damned thing. To get something anywhere close to an airbrush, what you have to do is select the paintbruch tool, select a soft brush template, and then set the...Fuck I can't even remember what it's calling it, but basically like the fade effect or something like that, and then you have kinda sorta the airbrush tool.
And ok, that may not seem like too much to have to do, except you have to go through all of that every time you change the brush template. That can really break up the flow of an artistic mood, and ultimately just make the time that has to be spent on the piece longer then it has to be.
Another problem I've been having is actually trying to sketch in PSE 6.0; if I make any large bruch strokes while drawing, I don't get a solid line, I just get a line of dots. Now I don't know if this is just due to a setting that could be fix or what, the point here being...I don't know what the fuck that setting might be, and really, that's something I really shouldn't have to worry about! I should just be able to select the bruch I want within two clicks tops. I shouldn't be expected to have to play with all these little settings and shit...It's just overly tedious.

I know I should be grateful that I even have what I do, especially with the times we're in right now...But...It's just a piece of shit. I just can't work with it because all it's doing is pissing me off, and when I'm pissed off, I can't draw anything, so it just makes the whole endeavor pointless, really.

There has to be some way to get Photoshop 5 to run on Vista, because that's the only way I'm going to be able to draw anything. This photoshop element crap just wont do.
It's always kinda sad when the older program is actually more preferable then the more "advanced" version.

Watchmen was Moore's book, if he doesn't like the way the movie turned out then he has more of a right then anybody to be mad about it. But that's where my agreement ends.

No matter how deep Watchmen might be, it is not education, even if that may have been what Alan Moore thought he was doing at the time, it's not. I't a fucking comic book!
It's a mature comic book that hit on a lot of issues for it's time, which is what made it so legendary in the eyes of so many comic book enthusiasts. But in the end, it's still just entertainment...Nothing more.

Watchmen is an ok book. It's worth a read if you haven't read it. But it won't change your outlook on life or make you suddenly have a revelation. And if it does...There may be something seriously wrong with you.

It seems the one that anyone ever brings up is the crapy Loonytoons rip off, the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.
2nd Trailer of Transformers ROTF:
[link]

I recommend watching it in HD, if your PCs can handle it.

It basically shows a lot of what was already shown in the Super bowl ad, only not quite as fast, as well as a few new little bits; like Bumblebee tumbling into the Witwicky's back yeard to save, Sam's dad it looks like, from some off screen assailant.

There's also a little scene in where Sam appears to be pulling the wings off a beetle; if you look at it in HD, you'll see the beetle is actually robotic, comeplete with little satellite dish. Apparently Dcepticons take the concept of planting a bug, quite literal.

We also see that Scorponok returns, as he is "flying" out of the sand at some mysterious bot, whom we only see a right arm and leg of. There is however a slight possible clue as to the bots identity: There has been some info that has said the character Jetfire will be the "old" war vet transformer of the movie-verse, much in the same way as characters like Kup from G1, or more recently, Ratchet from Animated. As such, he apparently uses the front landing gear from his alt-mode as a cane. The arm in the trailer appears to be holding just that, even in a way one would hold a walking cane.
I know a lot of fan-boys will probably moan at the idea of a transformer that uses a cane when walking around, but I can get into the idea of it being a quirky character trait. Maybe he'll come off like a giant robotic Dr House.

What bums me out more is that I'm most likely alone in my geeky grief, as there are probably lots of TF fans who would probably rub it in my face that these toys...suck.

Really the biggest let down is the doofy looking Devastator that is made up of 6 construction vehicles that do not have thier own robot-modes. Add to that a roughly 99 dollar price tag, and you got an over priced lackluster transformer toy that no one in their right mind will want. I foresee this thing being a big loss for Hasbro.
Links not working.

There will be some Constructicon toys that will get their own robot-modes, but they wont be able to combine with one another...Good call Hasbro.

There do seem to be some ROTF figures that may be worth having; like the Deluxe Sideswipe, and the new leader class Prime.
It's funny now that the election is over, almost all the Republicans (Some actually did support Obama toward the end.) are kind of passive-aggressive about it. They're like: "Yeah ok, your guy won....Now what?" Like if Obama doesn't create a utopia in the first week he's in office, they'll just declare him a failure.
And the fact is, he's not going to create a utopia. Infact we are still going to go through some hard times up ahead. You can't just make a sudden turn around from the state things are in at the moment. It's going to have to be a gradual change. (Yeah, I will admit I do hate using that word now, because Obama did kind of kill it.) But at least we know it'll get better. It has to. The only way it could get any worse is if we get thrown into a post-apocalyptic Mad Max world.

What really worries me though, is that you just know that the Republicans (The ones that are sore losers, anyway.) are laying in wait for Obama to make a mistake, even in the slightest bit and then go, "See, he's a screw up!
[link]

This is a follow up to Mike Mozart's video about tainted candy made in China: [link]

That is some seriously messed up shit.
I know a lot of people who will probably just look at this and say: "Oh he's just some tinfoil hat conspiracy nut. He doesn't know what he's talking about." But the thing is that all the information about the tainted food and the tainted milk powder is true. It's fact.
The biggest powdered milk Co in China was found to have been tainting their milk with melamine, so as to fool tests into thinking it was basically grade-A shit, when infact it was basically poison. And it is fact that all these chocolates and candy are made In China, With powdered milk. You don't have to be a genius to put it together.
Now of course do we know for a fact that these China made foods with the China made milk powder has melamine in it? No, we don't. But would you take that taste test? I wouldn't.
