So I called him in a panic, and he told me to call him at three today, to get the test done with a few others at four.

Anyways, he was a bit late, getting to his office a little after four. Then, he was having trouble printing out the test (the file was corrupted, I think.)

Anyways, during the wait, I tested my blood sugar. I must have done it less discreetly than I usually do, 'cuz he noticed. He asked me if I was diabetic, and I said yes.

It turns out, he's helping to design a diabetes watch (I'm really starting to hate that pun...) It's essentially a blood testing kit in the form of a watch, but without the blood or the testing.

It. Uses. Fucking. Lazors.

You wear it near a vein, and it constantly monitors your blood sugar level. The technology is still new, and none of the watches exist yet. I'm going to be...I think it's a "Closed beta" tester, or something.





And people say it's better to pay attention...




Another thing, I really respect this professor. Not because he's going to let me do some wicked hardcore medical testing, but because of who he is and his situation. Looking at him with his fucked up computer, and talking with him about our lives, he's pretty much just an average guy. Granted, he's an absolute genius when it comes to designing parts and tools, but he has average problems and a fairly average life. He's really a nice guy.

I was walking along after one of my finals, and one of those girls flagged me down. They always start out with "Hey, got a minute for the environment?"

I laughed hard, and walked over to her saying "What is it about me that just screams sustainability?" (a couple of them have flagged me down today xD)

Then she did something weird. She got all blushy and stuttery, and said "I...I'm sorry, I just talk to everyone who walks by, but you just told me!"

Anyways...I went in on the same conversation that I have with these guys, about how nuclear energy is the solution, but wind and solar is a good thing while we build up the infrastructure, about how sun and wind is too intermittent to be a real solution, etc...

But instead of talking normally, she continued blushing, stuttering, and giggling throughout the whole thing.

It's set in a universe that is somewhat of a cross between my Apocalypse story and an RP I do with

People I know are represented as themselves, and as I see them. If you agree to this, and I misrepresent you, it just shows that I don't know how you react, and you should relax because I don't know a couple of you in real life.

Here are some of the characters, and people whose permission I will need. Note me about this.

A high super (Z class) I rename myself Tiberius Alexander Bestia, and I end up as #6 of the High 12. My powers are: is it typically defined as a psychic power? Then I do it with psionics. I also have the ability to grant energy, but cannot use that power for myself. My personal source of power is huge, but usually drained from my main responsibility. My main responsibility is monitoring the human world leaders. I also run a school for those empowered whose gifts either are directly related to healing (they don't have a choice, they're pretty much kidnapped), or find a use in healing for their powers (such as this one guy who's pretty much an EKG machine/defibrillator. His powers are monitoring electrical impulses and generating short bursts of electricity). Other than that, well, I'm the most casual of the 12 about it.

A high super (Z class). This guy is the GM of the RP system that this seems to be combined with, simply called "the super RP" (there's no formal name). He changes his name to Gamma, and he is #2 of the High 12. His powers are: Is there any way to rationalize it being done with shadows? Then he does it with shadows. He doesn't have many formal responsibilities, though he is technically the High Magistrate/Future Empowered Millitary Commander. Currently, he gets called in if the shit really hits the fan. But he doesn't get called in. If he gets called in, there will be no more shit. Or a fan, for that matter.

A high super (Z class). He is #4 of the High 12. He goes by his actual name...so I'm going to have to ask him if I can use it or if he wants me to change it if I post. I knew this guy in High School. His powers are Character Creation. He makes this weird stance and alligns his hands, then shifts his body and flings out his hand (Think when Katara in Avatar is flinging ice needles). A blur shoots out from him and manifests into one of the many characters he has created. They essentially can have any W class or lower power that he can think of. They normally follow his instructions, and he has created a council of his characters that advise him what to do; each of them has a power that supernaturally enhances their mental capacity to whatever task they specialize in (lawmaking, diplomacy, punishment, etc...)

An above average super (K class). Her powers are relatively strong healing (anything short of growing back lost appendages or organs), and her healing mutation is a set of pure white wings. Her other power is minor levitation, just enough to lift her weightwhich allows her to actually use her otherwise useless wings (her mutation didn't cause hollowed out bones or anything). So far, she's been somewhat of a bitch about being forced to go to my school, taking every chance to point out that I'm not even through college. However, she's the only healer that I trust that's strong enough to attempt to treat my diabetes, so I suffer through it.

An above average super (H class). Her powers are healing minor wounds (pretty much anything under organ damage or broken bones. Mainly encouraging skin to close, soothing headaches, purifying wounds). Her healing mutation is enhanced eyes. Pretty much the focusing abilities and clarity of an eagle's eyes, and night vision. I'd argue the first level of Incantatrix.

First off, you gain +2 to your will save. Second, you gain a free metamagic feat. You also advance in your main spellslinger class. But there's one thing that rises it in my opinion.

Cheap specialization.

Nearly every mage needs magical protections. Thus, nearly every mage uses the abjuration school. In every campaign, there's usually at least one school that you'll avoid using, or for which you'll only use low level spells. The specialization in Abjuration allows you one free shielding spell of each level per day. The automatic specialization only costs one prohibited school, and you don't have to give up spells that you already know! Another thing: the only school you can't choose to prohibit is transmutation. Many spellslinger, if they're in a campaign that needs shielding (AKA battle) use very little divination, which is surprisingly useless for a spellslinger. Take the ninth level Foresight. You're not flat-footed, you don't suffer from sneak attacks, and you get a boost to your AC. If you're a SMART spellslinger, you're in the air so no one will be able to catch you flat-footed, you'll have Shield (an abjuration spell!) which will block ranged sneak attacks, and the same shield spell (a first level spell) will grant you the same, if not a better, bonus to AC. Through a little gold and a first level spell, you will have the constant effects of a ninth level spell.

Let's go a little further with how useless divination is. Moment of prescience: a bonus to your next save. If you're a smart spellslinger, you SHOULD be able to know when your food is poisoned, and stay out of reach from certain undead, and you'll have goggles protecting you from gaze attacks (you don't need a fortitude save). Many spellcasters have useful familiars that they can ride, giving them a constant Improved Evasion. Your mount better have a better reflex save than you, so the bonus isn't needed, and even if they failed you'd only be taking half damage. You don't need a bonus to reflex. And as for will saves...

...If you're a spellslinger, and you fail at a will save, it's a miracle that you got high enough to be able to cast 8th level spells. Congratulations, you fail at life.

The useful divination spells are 4th level and lower. Arcane eye, scrying, detect scrying, see invisibility, locate creature, detect thoughts, identify, etc...

Uhm...aanyways...enough divination bashing.

Yeah. For sacking a single school of magic, there are eight (oh...but you can't sack transmutation. Which is what you use to boost your tanks, so you wouldn't want to.), you get a free shielding spell of each level, a metamagic feat, advancement in your spellcasting ability, and a rather large bonus (for a single level) to your will save (again...spellslingers should have rather large will saves).

So, yeah. First level of Incantatrix has to be the best single level in the game. If anyone else has a candidate, or understands what I'm saying, feel free to contribute your thoughts.

How much do patients consider looks when it comes to the bedside manner of doctors?


I was at the doctor's on Wednesday. The doctor was busy, so the attendant asked if I minded if a Student looked me over. I said no, what I had probably wasn't diagnosed, so the student came in. She was a smoking hot girl in her 20s.

If I look back on what happened, the examination was quick and efficient, nothing different than normal. However, at the time, it felt like one of the best examinations.

When we later asked if I could get my flu shots (H1N1 and normal flu, my mother's paranoid), they were quick and painless. I can't remember if it was painless because it was painless, or if it was because I was looking at her.


But this got me thinking. If the doctor is well dressed, handsome/beautiful, but says very little, are they received better than a doctor who has wrinkled scrubs, is homely, but is friendly and kind? First reactions are usually based on looks. You usually don't see much of your doctor, mostly nurses. If they diagnose in the same period of time, who would be called the better doctor?

Please don't comment on my shallow-ness, if that's all you want to talk about. I'd really like opinions on who would be received better.





Oh, yes, I have a bacterial infection (I'm not contagious) and I got antibiotics. That's all you need to know.

I'm not sure about other religions but in most forms of Christianity, homosexuality is, well, much less than encouraged. A homosexual to be married in the eyes of the church would be blasphemy, there's no arguing that.

However, marriage in the government is different. I believe that if you're happy with them, it doesn't matter what sex you two are. Marriage in the government should be allowed because it enables happiness between any couple.

1) Combination of another character's name and my favorite type of halfling Pipeweed (He has familial connections, the DM allowed it!). If anyone wants me to write out his full name (He's a halfling, he has 20 or so), I'll edit it when I get home

2) It was for a D&D game, sorcerers were not allowed, so I made a halfling wizard. Halflings make the best magic users.

3) He lost his magical mummified elf hand necklace (given to him by Professor Lia Liadon), obtained an owl familiar 2 sizes larger than him (he can use it as a mount!), and has written a 500 page book about magic missile (that has become a textbook at his college). Oh, and he accidentally magically released the ultimate bad guy (girl) upon the connected planes. He's sorry.

4) Tiiko is the valedictorian in his year of the Darkspire College of Tharn. He is in his journeyman stage, and he already has relatively high standing in the school.



YR3000A (goes by Yureka)

1) Always wanted to name a character using both alpha and numeric symbols, I finally had an excuse.

2) I wanted a second character for an online RP. I already had a mage type, so I created a fighter type.

3) Since Gamma stopped teaching her, she has become attuned to the animals in nature, and has partially regained the ability to speak.

4) She spent the first 16 years of her life in a magitech testing facility as their main source of light magic research.



Robert Anderson

1) Sounds like a generic name. This RP went on normal people gaining superpowers. He's an average guy who developed very destructive powers.

2) My buddy was putting together an IM RP, so I joined.

3) He discovered that absorbing radiation gets him stoned, that he can compress the carbon he absorbs into diamond (so has a nearly indestructible armor), and has figured out how to heal amputated limbs.

4) He has 3 powers-The ability to absorb and release energy (I'mma firin mah lazerrrr), the ability to absorb materials and focus them into armor (think Kevin Levin on crack), and the ability to fly.
Yep.
Godlike powers, and flight.

Okay, I didn't look at someone else's paper, or have notes out.

The quiz was to calculate the total forces (and directions) on a ball on mars.

There was a charged foil attempting to make the ball hover. I was given that the foil was exerting 2 newtons on the ball, the weight of the ball, and the weight and radius of mars. I was also given basic calculations, like the absolute force of gravity.

We were supposed to do work. I had no clue how to do the problem. So I cheated.

I know, from already taking physics, that there is always an opposite force to every force.

Aluminum-2 newtons up.

Using this reasoning: Mars's gravity-2 newtons down

That's all I put. I had no idea how to do the problem. I got full credit.
