This year, I finally broke down and got a babushka doll set featuring my favorite character. As the description says, it's oddly poetic to have a young Anakin Skywalker doll hidden inside the Darth Vader doll.

I have them sitting on my computer desk right now. Quite cute!

I'm being horribly domestic this week: my Batman costume came with a sorry excuse for a cape, so I'm making my own. It'll be doing double duty this weekend if I can get it done, as I'll be wearing two different costumes for two different events. Since one of them involves little kids who were scared by my Batman costume last year (which made me feel really bad since that wasn't the point) I'm going as ROTJ!Luke Skywalker for that and Batman for the costume contests I'm entering.

Eventually, the 1/2 circle cloak will probably be used for three or even four different costumes: ROTJ!Luke, Batman, Phantom of the Opera, and maybe Vader (not really heavy enough for that). Right now, though, I only have two of the six pieces sown together, but I have all of tonight to work on it. Hand basting for now, planning to machine sew it another time when I have access to a machine.

I'm listening to the Star Wars movies as I work: it helps pass the time. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to run out and rent the prequels: I'm almost done with the OT! I'm watching them in reverse order for the heck of it. That, and the last one is my favorite.

Anyone else here making or wearing a costume for Halloween?

My friend chemisis and I watched the three Death Note movies over the last three weekends. Quite good, though I think Light was less...what's the word...sympathetic? Although that might be because I haven't finished the anime/manga yet. In the anime I can at least understand where he's coming from, even if I don't agree. Here, the end of Kira was hard to watch, `cause he pretty much snapped and lost it.

L is amazing, by the way, a perfect combination of Holmes-like deduction and idiosyncrasy. "Change the WorLd" almost, but not quite, made me cry, just because certain parts of it with L and the two kids were so sweet (no pun intended), particularly with what we know about L at that point.

*sigh*

Why do all my favorite characters meet bad ends?

Exhibit A: Nevva Winters goes from totally evil to true Traveler...then dies. Permanently.
Exhibit B: Batman defeats the Joker...then gets turned into the villain to save Gotham.
Exhibit C: Darth Vader saves Luke and comes back to the light...then dies.
Exhibit D: Maes Hughes figures out what's going on with the Homunculi...then dies.

I could go on, but do you see a theme here? It happens in Death Note too, but I don't want to give away major spoilers. Just suffice to say that I like the movie interpretation better, since Kira gets outwitted one final, fatal time.

Phantom Regiment is meh this year (disappointing since they won the whole thing last year...SPARTACUS!) and I'm wondering where the Cadets have been hiding for the last seven-eight seasons. They're back to the corp I loved once upon a time. Granted, this is their 75th anniversary so that's probably why, but it's still good to see them back to normal. And marching at 210 bpm? Ridiculously fast and totally awesome, all in one package.

Had our usual gripes in the theater yesterday about the camera work, so I splurged and got the stream for the semis tonight. Ah, a camera that doesn't move and miss everything interesting!

One other word: death to the electronic keyboards.
So...I'm reading the final book in a series that I've been reading now for eight years. I really can't believe it's been that long. It seems like yesterday that I picked up "The Merchant of Death" on a friend's recommendation, and I've been following the main character through the flumes since.

The series is The Pendragon Adventure. The book is The Soldiers of Halla. Major spoilers ahead. I'll be adding to it as I hit stuff that screams "write about me!"
...

...

...

Still reading? Okay, here we go. Very stream of consciousness, so you've been warning. Not that anyone reads my journal anyway.

So far, we've found out that Yoda's phrase about "luminous beings we are" is quite true in this universe, which had me grinning like crazy. Solara is very much like the Force, but truly split between light and dark. And the main character is definitely the Chosen One of Halla/Solara. On several levels.

Mhm...main villain backstory. Shockingly enough, he actually intended to do good in the beginning, but power corrupts. In a big way.

Now a fairly important character pulled a major...no, epic-level Darth Vader. Not only did she turn away from the dark side of Solara, she sacrificed body and spirit to save a major character. Nevva Winters, you are hereby a member of the Vader Club. *sniffs*

"Saint Dane thinks he's won." Boy, those words are music to my ears. Even though Saint Dane is the villain. Because it means it's time.

"This is the way it was meant to be." w0000t!

O.M.G. Okay, the ending threw me for an absolute loop. Until the last page. And then I knew. Totally awesome! I'm too tired and happy and stunned to type anymore tonight. 594 pages in under four hours takes a lot out of a person.

And so we go.

I, a die-hard, dedicated Star Wars fan who can write in Aurabesh and name minor characters like no tomorrow...went to see Star Trek in the theaters.

And liked it.

Immensely.

I'm not going to say it was my favorite movie ever, which it wasn't (didn't particularly care for some elements of the first half) but I did enjoy most of it. It's got some epic music, pretty SFX, and left me with one big question: is this Star Trek or is this a Star Trek AU? Even with my limited knowledge of the Trek universe I was able to pick out differences in the story. Anyone out there reading this who knows more about Trek and could fill me in?

It was, however, fun to recognize names that I hadn't even realized that I knew until I heard them. And the whole comment towards the end about Spock's usual farewell had me in stitches.

Really, the whole Star Wars\Star Trek rivalry is silly, if you ask me. Both have their merits. I'll probably stay a `Wars fan, though, just because it caught my imagination first.

So I've started watching Avatar: The Last Airbender, courtesy of chemisis' unending collection of interesting shows. Yes, it's kind of a kid's show, but there's some unexpected depth. I'm in the book of earth, for anyone who knows it. And I think I found my favorite scene of the series...at least so far. It's at the end of "The Desert" and it reminds me powerfully of an FMA scene. *sniffs* Spoilers below if anyone wants a more direct parallel.

Totally random aside: I love my crazy phonographic memory. There's no other explanation for why I would pick out both the voice actor for Carth (KOTOR) and Sam (Danny Phantom) after only hearing them in a few short segments in Avatar. I can't recognize faces, but I rarely forget a voice. Kinda like Toph.

Anyway, Zuko has officially joined the Vader Club, since his backstory is as incredible as it is tragic.

What is the Vader Club? Well, I'm glad you asked.

The Vader Club is made up of sympathetic villains/anti-heroes. Yes, they're evil. But there's a reason for it and it tends to be tragic. Other notable members would include: the Phantom from POTO, Batman (Batman Begins & the Dark Knight), and probably Severus Snape from Harry Potter, to name a couple. Chaotic forces of evil like Palpatine or the Joker really don't count since we have no reason to feel sorry for them.

So...off to watch more 'bending awesomeness!
-
-
-
-
-
-
----FMA/Avatar spoilers begin here. Ye have been warned.----
-
-
-
-
-
-

In FMA, there's a scene in Lab 5 where Ed starts overloading when he steps into the spilled red water after starting a transmutation by clapping his hands. One of his 'bodyguards' (can't think of her name) walks right up into the storm and hugs him like a mother would and gets him to calm down.

In Avatar, Aang gets massively upset about the (temporary) loss of a friend and gets pushed over the edge into the Avatar state, which is dangerous for him, his friends, and his foes alike. One of the other main characters pulls him into a hug, her kindness enough to calm him enough to pull him out of that state. The end of the scene is almost identical to that in FMA, just different characters.

Wonder which came first...

Plus odds-and-ends that fit nowhere else in the apartment.

In other news, please pray for .
I was cleaning out my hard drive again and found this, my attempt at a meme that I saw a while back. The idea is that one puts their favorite music device on shuffle and writes a short story for each song. I was one or two short, so I finished it up quickly as a warm-up for writing a more serious piece. Here are my ten songs and their accompanying stories.

Yes, I should be working on real work.
----------------------------------------------
Battle of the Heroes (John Williams)

The whisper flew down the corridor, taunting, mocking. He knew it was useless, knew he could not escape, the fact underscored by the dark figure appearing as by magic from the damp walls of the ancient building. No words were exchanged. None needed to be. All that could have been said was said long ago, to no effect. A ruby flash lit the massive cavern, buried deep beneath the forest above. A sapphire blade rose to meet it. And battle was joined. Neither held the advantage, and for a long, breathless moment, their motions were a deathly beautiful dance. Color flashed around them so swiftly that it seemed to blur, bathing the silent temple in a purple glow and painting the silence with energy discharges. Finally, one slipped past the other's guard and the ruby blade dropped from limp hands. With anguish, the sapphire-wielder dropped to his knees, only to have the blade torn from his hands and turned against them. Two brothers, two paths, one destruction.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Duel of the Fates (John Williams)

It was the great day of exhibition. Padawans of all ages competed fiercely against each other, yet there was no malice, only a sense of fun and excitement. Save for one being, it was a game. A single padawan in dark-colored clothing was grimly focused on his purpose, his desire to win at any cost. Opponent after opponent fell beneath his blade, clasping burns and wincing, but with no real damage. He triumphs, but those who watch closely see the stirrings of darkness beneath his strictly imposed calm.

Years passed, and the Temple was once again home to a fierce contest. There is no laughter, no friendly jesting this time, only fear and despair as the fallen padawan returns to wreak vengeance in the name of love. Those who had fought him fought only half-heartedly, knowing they were defeated. Yet he does not escape the battle unscathed. In another time, he is defeated by his worst enemy and greatest friend. But now, he is a force of unstoppable darkness.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Breaking the Habit (Linkin Park)

Dance fills her with a great music as she acts out the pain and glory of a thousand lives, a thousand memories that are not her own. She fights for them, she feels for them, and she is them, for a brief moment. When she is on stage, she is invincible.

Off stage, she is weak, slave to another's whim and will. She knows she cannot fight it, no options left to her. So she lives for another world, one of light and joy and thunderous applause, more addicting than any drug ever made. She is bound, but free. Powerful, yet weak. She lives two lives, becoming another person when the music takes her. And so she dances, playing out the sorrows and triumphs of others without ever knowing her own.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here They Come (John Williams...lots of Star Wars on my computer)

This was it! The most exciting moment of the entire struggle, when the next action would determine the course of the fight. Skillful hands grip the steering yoke tightly and guide the small fighter through the treacherous terrain. Dodge a speeder bike there, shoot down a TIE there. Suddenly, the view shifts, a gigantic trench with a tiny hole. A deep breath inflates tense lungs as the shot is lined up, the trigger squeezed...it hits! All the gathered onlookers cheer as she slides from the seat, grinning ear to ear. Force, did she love that arcade game!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What I've Done (Linkin Park)

The scenes flash before his eyes. A girl. A child. A woman, great with child. An old man. They refuse to stop, portals into the darkest time of his life. He forces himself to turn his mind away to what the speaker is saying. Something about a mission. He doesn't know what it is, and barely cares. A young man notices his distress and pulls him aside, asking him if he is alright. He can't breath to tell him that no, he is not alright. He never will be.

Then the wise child whispers that he has to let go, start over, forgive what he has done. Only then, can he find healing. Only then, can he know peace. He understands, of course. He has tried to start over. But the darkn...

Unfortunately for me, the nice weather we've been having didn't hold through today and I had to go shopping in the rain. I don't have a car, so it meant walking. As my rain-jacket was nowhere to be found and both of my umbrellas are in sad shape, I went with plan C.

The costume cloak.

Yes, I walked down along a major road in my town while wearing my Phantom of the Opera cloak. And the cheaper of my two fedora-style hats, as they're the only wide-brimmed hats I have and the rain was falling at an angle. I got quite a few funny looks, let me tell you! The cold and damp aggravated my already unhappy lungs, however, so I've spent most of my time since then just sitting around. Hopefully the rain settled the pollen around here somewhat so I can stop wheezing like Vader every time I have to climb stairs.

In unrelated news, I posted something I've been waiting to post for, well, months. My good friend chemisis drew a scene from Revenge of the Sith (the novelization, anyway) for me and I finally had time to color it on the computer. I have a printed version that's been colored for a while, but no scanner was doing it justice. Besides, it gave me something to do on evenings when I was too tired and ill to do any real work.

Now I just need to finish that other request that's hanging over my head...deadline's coming up fast, I know.

...He is risen indeed. Alelluia! Death has been swallowed up in victory.

I love Lent/Easter. I really do. It's my favorite season of the church year by far. Our tenabrae service (night-time Good Friday) was well timed: the sunlight faded throughout the church service, leaving us in total darkness at the end. Just really cool.

However, three church services in one day is tiring, even when all you are is chief page-turner and stop-puller for the organist. It was really a lot of fun, but trying to sing the Hallelujah Chorus after going several years without any serious singing is tough, let me tell you. That stupid high A doesn't come as easily as it used to.

I've been dabbling in astrophotography a fair bit during Lent, so expect to see some photos here soon. It's nice to be back, as that was a really long six weeks, though it served its purpose.

I've also written a fair bit of fanfiction, but not much of it is ready to be posted, mostly because I've been working on my first real story (aka, not a one-shot). Its a "Return of the Jedi" AU.

And...I saw Tron. Finally. I actually liked it, despite (or because of) the old-school wireframe CG. The idea of program-people is an interesting one and the bit was cute (Can you say anything other than no? *yes* ). For some strange reason, I have a thought for a crossover involving Tron and Star Wars...but that's going to be a while and another viewing or two later.

Well, I have to get back to researching Riemann and his tricky Hypothesis. Have a Happy Easter everyone!

I was browsing a Star Wars Yahoo group today and came across something very interesting...and a bit disturbing.

[link]

Apparently, a Star Wars horror story entitled "Deathtroopers" will be coming out around Halloween this year. While I don't mind a bit of spookiness in the Star Wars universe (Crystal Star, anyone?) this could be the start of a very dark turn for Star Wars. Frankly, one the reasons I read the books is because, with a few exceptions, they're definitely PG, PG-13 at most. I know one can't judge a book by its cover, but this is still a little scary.

Knowing me, though, I'll probably still read it. Or at least start it.

In other news...

[link]

Frankly, I'm considerably more intrigued by the premise of this new "Fate of the Jedi" series. It's post-Legacy of the Force and just the back cover made me shout "WHAT!?!" Loudly. Sufficiently so to make my roommate a bit worried about my sanity.

If anyone reads this (not sure how many people do besides chemisis ), do give me your thoughts on "Deathtroopers" and "Fate of the Jedi." I climbed shakily to my feet and faced the ultimate incarnation of evil. In the Star Wars universe, anyway.

"Pitiful child," he rasped. "You cannot banish me with a word like you did those weak minions of mine. This is my domain!"

Unfortunately, he was right. Even more unfortunately, he started going into a patented evil laugh about three inches from my ears. I scrambled desperately for a solution while he wound down. I couldn't banish, but what else had Michael said about the notebook? Something useful...

"Leave her alone!"

To my shock and massive dismay, the shout came from three throats simultaneously. Luke, Vader, and Bobby Pendragon had all recovered quickly from being tossed around, and now all three were running to get between me and the Emperor. My shout of warning went unheeded as dark lightning poured from the evil despot's fingertips. All three fell to the ground, writhing in pain. The horrible evil laugh started up again as he used precise bursts of lightning to control the movements of his victims...wait, that was it! Hurriedly, I pulled out the notebook and scribbled in a single line. The Emperor's laughter stopped abruptly. With a wicked grin, I read aloud what I had written.

"Palpatine shuts up."

No matter how hard he tried, Palpatine couldn't make a sound. His mouth flapped uselessly, but there was no sound whatsoever. I laughed. "How's that for taking a page out of Com Pewter's book?"

With childish eagerness, I wrote a couple more lines, indulging in some humiliation. After all, what could be worse than being forced to cha-cha all the way to the one-way shuttle back to Byss? Every hero within seeing distance was struggling to breathe between bouts of laughter as the once-mighty Sith Lord danced his way out of our collective hair.

Yoda stepped forward and tapped my shin with his gimer stick. "Aggression, of the Dark Side is," he managed before succumbing to his own mirth. We might have kept laughing for quite some time if it weren't for Max's cry.

"Fang!" We all turned to look. Max's flockmate was lying on the ground, unmoving. I vaguely remembered him taking the brunt of a nasty spell from Lucius Malfoy. A quick look around showed several heroes who had been dealt serious bodily harm. Acting on impulse, I swiftly wrote in the notebook. Fang suddenly sat up, breathing hard, but otherwise showing no ill effects from the spell. I couldn't help but smile. Apparently, the book could heal, as well. Commanding a character to heal wasn't too far off from banishment, just the other side of the coin. Unfortunately, it could do nothing for Erik's disfigurement or Vader's armor, but both agreed that enough damage had been done to their plot lines already.

After all the heroes had been revived, I began the epic task of banishing each back to their own realm until only Star Wars characters remained. As I shook out my hand to relieve the intense writers cramp, Michael appeared from wherever it was he had been during the short but epic battle. "Well done," he remarked.

"Yeah, but something's bothering me," I couldn't help but say.
"What would that be?"
"If my daydreaming messes up the plot lines, how am I supposed to fall asleep at night now?"
He laughed. "Oh, by all means, dream on. It's fun to see what you can do with us. You'll just have to come back whenever we call you. That's all."
"Really?"
"Yes."
"Wonderful. So now that I've saved the day, how do I get back home? And don't say silver shoes: left mine at home."
"Easily. Just write yourself home."
"But I thought it only worked on characters."
"It does."
"So what you're saying is..."
"Don't finish that thought. You really don't want to do that."
I shrugged. "Good point. I'm thinking that I'm going to need a mirror, though, for this to work."

With the help of the remaining Star Wars characters, we were able to find enough reflective material so I could see myself when banishing myself back to reality. Before I left, though, I did have one more question to ask.
"Vader?"
"Yes?"
"Why were you fighting for the good guys? After all, you are evil for most of the original story."
"Imagination is a powerful tool. You imagine that I have considerable good within me: therefore, it was so."
"Makes sense." With that, I stepped in front of our makeshift mirror. My name was already written, and it was time to leave. As I shouted my name, all the characters waved goodbye and everything went black.

------------------------------------------------

I awoke with a start at my keyboard, once more within my drafty apartment. Had I just had a fantastic dream, I wondered, or had I really gone to...

I’ll confess that I stood looking blankly over the scene of the battle for several long moments, still trying to let Michael’s words sink in. I’d heard the expression about pens and swords before, but never really gave much thought to it. Now, lives depended on it. Shouts and battle cries drifted from below.

The pen is mightier than the sword...mightier than the sword...

My musings were abruptly cut off as a dark figure landed directly in front of me. For a moment, I froze, unable to defend myself. The dark wizard Risto looked at me and laughed.

&#147athetic. They say you are Paladin’s servant, yet you cower like a rompa. Pitiful.” He raised an ancient-looking sword swung the flat towards me. As it came whistling towards my head, I instinctively raised my hands, one of which still clutched the pen Michael had given me. To my utter surprise, the six-inch bit of plastic deflected the blow! Risto stumbled back in shock. With no time to loose, I tore open the notebook and scribbled “Risto” while picturing his castle in Amara. As he came back to try again, I looked straight at him and shouted his name. With a faint whoosh of displaced air, he disappeared.

I looked at the notebook and pen in my hands and laughed out loud. Apparently, a bit of Xanth’s magic had made it through the rifts, rendering Michael’s words to me quite literal in meaning. Emboldened, I started to climb down closer to the battle. Once I got to a point where I could make out individual faces, I started writing names as fast as I could, picturing each world in my head as I did so. Galbatorix, Alagaesia. Voldemort, Hogwarts. Megatron, Cybertron. Shataiki, the colored forest. My fingers started to ache, but I kept writing as fast as I could. Saint Dane, Halla. Itex, Max Ride’s Germany. The Joker, Gotham City.

Finally, I was fairly sure that I had gotten every name down correctly. The list took up three whole pages of the notebook and had to be over a hundred names. Virtually every dark wizard or evil madman I had ever read about or imagined was on that list. “Halfway there,” I muttered, before leaving my lofty perch to join the battle.

You know how stories make battles seem like such noble and heroic events? They aren’t. Really, they aren’t. I spent the next two hours being alternately scared for my life and relieved that the surviving good guys were making sure that I only had two or three evil guys trying to take me out at a time. With the notebook tucked under one arm and the pen waving frantically in front of me, I must have looked vaguely insane. Probably more than vaguely. I had a few close calls as villains I had missed in my writing spree came after me as I tried to write their names, but Vader and Maximum Ride stuck pretty close to me and took care of such things. Between Vader’s awesome swordsmanship skills and Max’s cool ability to grab me and head for the skies when things got too hairy, I didn’t get hurt, although my fingers would never be the same and my voice was rapidly running out of steam.

Finally, I finished off the last of the villains by croaking “Frollo.” The fallen priest gave an angry yell as he disappeared back to Paris, and I slumped to the ground, exhausted. Around me, the surviving heroes cheered loudly, and I let myself believe that maybe, just maybe, I had actually managed to fix everything. Something was niggling at the back of my mind, but I wasn't sure what it was. I had to be missing something...

And then, as if on cue, the Emperor showed up. And we were doomed all over again...

Maybe I shouldn't have opened that box after all. You would have thought that the words “Rabbit Hole” and a picture of the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland would have been my first clue that something strange was about to happen. But I was apparently more tired than I thought this morning and didn't even think before opening the box. As soon as the lid cleared the box, I saw that the inside was much bigger than the outside. The next thing I knew, I was falling headfirst into the box and watching everything go black.

I'm not sure how long I was out for. It could have been a few minutes, a few hours, a few years...time acts funny when you've fallen through a rabbit hole. When I did wake up, though, I immediately realized that I was no longer in my drafty little apartment in the middle of a very cold winter. For one, it was warm, which never happens in the wintertime where I live. Secondly, there were two suns overhead. Definitely not home, or even Earth, for that matter. I jumped to my feet, instantly regretting the action as my head began to do somersaults without me, forcing me to close my eyes against the vertigo.

“Easy,” a deep, male voice said from behind me as hands clasped my arms, holding me upright. “Move slowly until you reorient yourself.”

The voice sounded familiar, but in my puzzled state, I couldn't quite place it. A second male voice, decidedly younger, chuckled slightly from behind me. “She looks like she just went through a flume for the first time.”

“Or went a few too many rounds with a rancor.”

Aching head or no, I had to see who these people were. I turned around, moving more cautiously this time, and nearly fell back to the sand.

Standing in front of me, large as life, were three people that I would know anywhere. Well, perhaps people wasn't quite the right word. More like characters. I stood there with my mouth hanging wide open, gaping at the odd assortment like I was a fish out of water, no doubt looking incredibly stupid. Granted, how often do you see Bobby Pendragon, Luke Skywalker, and Darth Vader all in the same place, at the same time, and for real? How about never? How do you think you'd react?

“Whoa,” I managed to squeak out. “What in chaos is going on here?” Privately, I started to wonder if I hadn't passed out at my keyboard for lack of sleep. It's been known to happen.

“You have been brought here for a reason,” Vader said solemnly.

“Yeah,” Bobby added. “Thank goodness you live on Second Earth or rigging the box would have been much harder. As is, if it hadn't been for their wizardry with my ring, you might never have made it.”

That was supremely unhelpful, but Luke smiled kindly at me. “Let's go somewhere we can all sit down. You must have quite a few questions.”

“That'd be an understatement,” I replied sarcastically. Honestly, I'm not usually that rude. Really. I'm just not at my best in the morning, especially not when I'm whisked off to another dimension before breakfast.

The odd trio and I headed off to a small house in the distance that I recognized pretty quickly as Ben Kenobi's house from “A New Hope.” So, Tatooine, then. That would explain the heat and the double suns pretty well, but my purpose here was as mysterious as ever. After we had all pulled out chairs and brushed away the offending sand (it really does get everywhere) I looked at the three characters in front of me and sighed. “This isn't a Thursday Next or Inkheart sort of thing where I've been read into a book, is it?”

“I do not know what you mean by that,” Vader intoned, “but you are here to avert a crisis.”

“A bunch of crises actually,” Bobby interrupted.

“How am I supposed to do that?” I asked, somewhat
predictably. “I'm no Jedi, Sith, Traveler, or anything interesting at all. I'm a mathematician, for crying out loud! Nothing more than an avid reader who knows way too much about her favorite fandoms.”

“That's where you come in,” Luke replied. “Characters from the different worlds have fallen through rips between our worlds. We're calling them rabbit holes after that Alice story from your world.”

“Alice in Wonderland?”

“Yeah. Courtney said that she and Mark read it in high school, but I never did, for obvious reasons.” Bobby remarked.
“Reasons like saving the territories?”

“Like that.”

I stood up. “So people from your world” -I pointed at Luke and Vader- “are entering his world” -my finger moved to Bobby- “and vice versa, and you expect me to fix it?”

All three looked at each other. It would have been a bit comical if I hadn't been so upset and confused.

“Yes.”
&#147<img src="http://e.deviantart.com/emoticons/w/winkrazz.gif" width="15" height="15" alt=";P" title...

Warning: Spoilers for the last book in the "Last of the Jedi" series! Proceed with caution.

I've always had this nagging question about the Star Wars universe: we all know that Obi-Wan is watching over Luke on Tatooine between the trilogies, but who is watching over Leia on Alderaan? Not Yoda, obviously, but isn't she even more vulnerable to detection than Luke?

Now I have my answer and have reminded myself of why I read /all/ Star Wars books, even the children's books. In the "Last of the Jedi" series, we find out that a former classmate of Anakin is her silent guardian, a not-quite-Jedi named Ferus Olin. I read the epilogue and just went "Ah-hah!" as it was one of those little things that just clicks. Speaking of clicking...the memory drug nearly made me cry, both in its intended purpose and how it was used in the end. If Vader's scheme had worked, the events of the original trilogy probably would have never happened, and he would have never been brought back. There's an idea for an AU if I ever saw one!

I'm hoping to read the second "Coruscant Nights" book today once more pressing duties are finished. It ties back to the Darth Maul:Shadow Hunter book with the inclusion of certain characters and gives a glimpse of the post-Order 66 galaxy.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
To-do list (borrowed from ):

Computerizing:

Digitize Pattern 2
Scan/fix Dragon lineart

Current Art Projects (2-D design):

Project 1 (design principles)
Project 2 (B&W design)
Project 3 (color wheel)
Project 4 (color design)
Project 5 (patterns)

Requests:

's FMA poster (I will do it, I promise!)
's request
An illustration for Lionchilde's amazing story "One Path" (chapter 198, if anyone is reading it here). I appreciate your thoughts and prayers more than you know.

In other news...I went to see the Dark Knight again today. This would be my third time, but I'd say it was the best. There's nothing that can compare to an Ultrascreen (2-stories high!) and an amazing sound system. I only wish I could have seen it when the theater was packed. It would have been the showing of a lifetime, I think.

So I have a new obsession now. There's just something about tall, black-cloaked, masked anti-heroes that appeal to me, it seems.

My father was forced to resign and cannot find a new job after over six months of searching, my paternal grandmother has been moved to a nursing home, I had some valuable personal property stolen, and just last night I had several large bombshells dropped concerning my maternal grandparents. Please, pray for my grandparents most of all. They are going through some extremely hard times.

Thank you to anyone who does.
I've recently become more interested in drawing FullMetal Alchemist pictures, mainly because I could use a break from drawing Darth Vader (gasp!). I've run out of really neat poses for the Dark Lord, so I'm taking a hiatus. He'll be back as I find inspiration, however. I've also used color for the first time in at least a year. I've never really liked it, but it was needed in this one. And it didn't turn out too badly.

Anime is proving a bit difficult, so I'm 'cheating' and using a grid until I become more comfortable with the style. The WIPs are just for fun and to remind me of the process I used. The grid creates several extra steps: not only do I have to draw a grid, but I also have to trace and copy the image since the lines never erase cleanly. I tend to do that anyway, even when drawing more freehand, as the erase marks tend to spoil the image a bit. And I erase. A lot.

As one of my viewers pointed out, I'm having trouble with faces. If anyone reads this and wants to offer some pointers, be my guest! I need to work on that, instead of just drawing cloaks without heads.

It would appear that I've been tagged. Unfortunately, the only people I have to tag are those who tagged me. So, for the sanity of all involved, I've decided not to tag anyone. I could see that getting out of hand very rapidly. Sorry to disappoint.

I'm currently working on a Mara Jade piece, likely to be done in B&W, as that's my preferred medium. Colors just don't work well for me. I'm hoping to get it done (drawn, scanned, and repaired) in hopes of submitting it for a SWFC art jam. Should be fun. Even if that doesn't happen, I hope it turns out well. Since "Darkness Falls" turned out well, I'm a bit more optimistic about my face-drawing abilities. They can only improve once I take the art class I have scheduled for this fall.

It's been a while since I've posted, I have to admit. Life, work, and illness have forced me to do less of what I love, namely writing and drawing. Migraines are horrible. Period.

I do have to say that the only good thing about missing two days of work (and losing over $100 in the process) is that it has allowed me to catch up on my reading. I'm trying to read most -read "all"- of the Expanded Universe by the time school starts up again. It's a terribly ambitious project, but I've already read 47-ish books and comic books. I just might make it after all, since I'll be cooped up in my apartment this weekend as well. I just hope I don't run out of reading material! If I do, I'll just have to make my own.

Speaking of which, I've just completed a piece that started out as a random, rabid plot bunny. "Battlefields" is the title, and it's posted over at ff.net. If I can figure out text submissions, I'll try posting it here. It's got some interesting imagery, but happens to be a bit more abstract than usual. Which is probably why I have a grand total of one review over at ff.net. Some people just don't appreciate a different, new-ish perspective on the Lord Darth Vader. Their loss.

Well, must be going! My bed and some mild pain-killers await. I hope to get the Mara piece done this weekend and scan it sometime this next week, provided the banthas in my head take up residence elsewhere.

Until then: au revoir, mon ami.

I love to write darkly. This may sound odd, but it is so much easier than trying to write lightly or with humor.

I say this because I've posted a vivid piece on FanFiction called "Dark Soliloquy" which is probably my best work. As of this minute, anyway. If I can figure out how, I might post it here.

So why do I bother going to social events? Well, besides the blow to my ego, I tend to be dragged along by 'friends.' When will I learn?

Anyway, I'm in a reasonably good mood because I've written a few pieces for fanfiction.net and lots of people are reading them. No reviews yet, though. Maybe soon?

Greetings, DeviantArt!

I haven't posted anything yet, content to browse the myriad of pictures. I've got a picture of the movie Christine done and a 'redeemed Vader' picture as well, but I haven't figured out how to scan/upload them yet.
Mostly, that is due to the fact that I've been writing like crazy on fanfiction.net and fictionpress.com.
