IF you think way back to the start of this marathon campaign, back when it seemed preposterous that any black man could be a serious presidential contender, then you remember the biggest fear about Barack Obama: a crazy person might take a shot at him.

Some voters told reporters that they didnÂt want Obama to run, let alone win, should his very presence unleash the demons who have stalked America from Lincoln to King.
After consultation with Congress, Michael Chertoff, the homeland security secretary, gave Obama a Secret Service detail earlier than any presidential candidate in our history Â in May 2007, some eight months before the first Democratic primaries.

ÂIÂve got the best protection in the world, so stop worrying,Â Obama reassured his supporters. Eventually the country got conditioned to his appearing in large arenas without incident (though I confess that the first loud burst of fireworks at the end of his convention stadium speech gave me a start). In America, nothing does succeed like success. The fear receded.

Until now.
At McCain-Palin rallies, the raucous and insistent cries of ÂTreason!Â and ÂTerrorist!Â and ÂKill him!Â and ÂOff with his head!Â as well as the uninhibited slinging of racial epithets, are actually something new in a campaign that has seen almost every conceivable twist. They are alarms. Doing nothing is not an option.

AllÂs fair in politics.
John McCain and Sarah Palin have every right to bring up William Ayers, even if his connection to Obama is minor
, even if AyersÂs Weather Underground history dates back to ObamaÂs childhood, even if establishment Republicans and Democrats alike have collaborated with the present-day Ayers in educational reform. But itÂs not just the old Joe McCarthyesque guilt-by-association game, however spurious, thatÂs going on here. DonÂt for an instant believe the many mindlessly Âeven-handedÂ journalists who keep saying that the McCain campaignÂs use of Ayers is the moral or political equivalent of the Obama campaignÂs hammering on Charles Keating.

What makes them different, and what has pumped up the Weimar-like rage at McCain-Palin rallies, is the violent escalation in rhetoric, especially (though not exclusively) by Palin. Obama Âlaunched his political career in the living room of a domestic terrorist.
Â He is “

alling around with terroristsÂ (note the plural noun). Obama is Ânot a man who sees America the way you and I see America.Â Wielding a wildly out-of-context Obama quote, Palin slurs him as an enemy of American troops.

By the time McCain asks the crowd ÂWho is the real Barack Obama?Â itÂs no surprise that someone cries out ÂTerrorist!Â The rhetorical conflation of Obama with terrorism is complete.
It is stoked further by the repeated invocation of ObamaÂs middle name by surrogates introducing McCain and Palin at these rallies. This sleight of hand at once synchronizes with the poisonous Obama-is-a-Muslim e-mail blasts and shifts the brand of terrorism from AyersÂs Vietnam-era variety to the radical Islamic threats of today.

ThatÂs a far cry from simply accusing Obama of being a guilty-by-association radical leftist. Obama is being branded as a potential killer and an accessory to past attempts at murder.
ÂBarack ObamaÂs friend tried to kill my familyÂ was how a McCain press release last week packaged the remembrance of a Weather Underground incident from 1970 Â when Obama was 8.

We all know what punishment fits the crime of murder, or even potential murder, if the security of post-9/11 America is at stake. We all know how self-appointed “

atrioticÂ martyrs always justify taking the law into their own hands.

Obama can hardly be held accountable for AyersÂs behavior 40 years ago, but at least McCain and Palin can try to take some responsibility for the behavior of their own supporters in 2008.
WhatÂs troubling here is not only the candidatesÂ loose inflammatory talk but also their refusal to step in promptly and strongly when someone responds to it with bloodthirsty threats in a crowded arena. Joe Biden had it exactly right when he expressed concern last week that Âa leading American politician who might be vice president of the United States would not just stop midsentence and turn and condemn that.Â To stay silent is to pour gas on the fires.

Â Â Â Â Â Â MMkay, so I decided to use one of these journal cascading style sheet things. I really disliked them for a long time, cause people felt the need to choose some color that clashed with the green of deviantart (do not fucking say it is gray. if you say it is gray you are a moron and need to get your monitor AND eyes checked.) anyway, so here it is, simple and stuff.

Â Â Â Â Â Â So honestly my summer didn't feel like it began until about 2 weeks ago when I finally got out of summer school, even though I was only taking one class (made an A) I was still 'stuck' in my college town, where few friends reside and consequently, less things to do. (especially with little money and gas prices the way they are.) I've finally found time to write this so I'm going to.

Â Â Â Â Â Â Also, I'm looking in my pictures folder to remember what all I've done. Photos are a replacement for my memory, lol.

Hershel got married! w00t! hmm. maybe adding pics would make this more interesting.

Â Â Â Â Â Â Meh ok so those are both shots of just the bride, but whatever, she's prettier, haha. Hersh would agree I'm sure. If you wanna gasp as his mug check out the rest of the shots

Â Â Â Â Â Â Oh and of course, the night before that was the bachelors party. Very fun. Included me purchasing roughly $90 of liqueur and beer by myself ^_^; drinking at the hotel then heading to the only strip club in his small town, where one of the strippers proceeded to make a hilarious embarrassment out of one of his friends, pulling his underwear up over his head! (ripping of course). Titties in face, and of course the (then) bachelor got a lapdance. (in the back! woo-doggy!) Haha. Then proceeded, with designated drivers of course, to go back to the bachelors place for a little 'jam session' and drink the rest of the copious amount of alcohol. Then somehow we all made it back to the hotel, and passed out, only to get up supershitearly for the wedding, haha.

Â Â Â Â Â Â A few weeks later, during summer school, I headed to Houston to go to a friends graduation party. I traveled by Greyhound, which was my first time doing so, and maybe last, lol. Story in a sec.
Michelle's party was cool, her mom had slaved away making more BBQ than you have ever seen in your life. It was quite literally "OMGWTFBBQ" lol.

Â Â Â Â Â Â The party was awesome. In addition to delicious food there was an assortment of beer courtesy of her mom, and their house is very awesome to say the least. They have a pool, an actual bar with foozball and darts, and a pool table. Much pool was played, and music blasted on the really nice speaker system in the house. I saw some old friends and that was nice.

Â Â Â Â Â Â The next day we woke up and had some breakfast, and Michelle drove me to the Greyhound station at around noon. So I'm in this amphitheater type thing, like the Colosseum but just half oval, open on the other end, you know, like Greeks/Romans... anyway I don't know why I'm there, I'd guess it was because some show or tournament or something is about to start. But it's way open. The amphitheater is on the edge of like a cliff/canyon thing, and there's mist and fog everywhere, it's sunset. There are some Roman columns that look like they're ruins in front, where the 'stage' would be, and just after those is the cliff. There's moss and vines everywhere, looks old and ruined.

I'm seated about all the way up in the nosebleed section, so I have a birds eye view down into the cliff/canyon. The crowd is cheering, I guess trying to coax the next act out. When all of a sudden I hear a roar. (Since my mind is made up of roars that Hollywood has provided me, let's say it was a combination of the T-Rex roar and the King Kong roar, lol). The crowd thinks this is part of the act, or they don't give a shit. Some people pick up rocks at their feet and start chunking them off the cliff, for lack of anything better to do I guess. Some rocks don't quite make it to the edge of the cliff, some bounce and go over, and some go far over the cliff.

All of a sudden, I see rocks incoming. Yes, from the cliff. They are hitting the columns, breaking them, some people look concerned. More roars. I am getting frightened at this point and in distance inside the canyon, thru the mist and fog I see a burning bright enormous object. It's... some huge giant rock/lava man thing! It's basically the height of the canyons' depth. Maybe a little shorter. He is roaring and throwing lava rocks at the crowd!

Don't ask me how, but there are 'rafters' above me... like there would be inside an INSIDE amphitheater... or something. I don't know what these rafters are attached to but I just start climbing up them. I get up as high as I can manage, which is maybe 10 or so feet from where the top of the nosebleed section is. The monster is insanely quick and is basically upon us. I see more rocks being thrown at a higher rate, and one rock I witness hit a man in the chest, and it doesn't just burn a hole through his chest, it literally makes his skin melt and fall off his bones, and those burst into flames as well. His skin is melted within about 1 second, and then the skull falls limp and burns to ashes within maybe 5 seconds. It's horrific but for some reason I'm remaining calm and quiet, hoping maybe he won't see me in these rafters.

He proceeds to, somehow, rip the entire floor part of the amphitheater off, and people who aren't already dead go falling and rolling off the cliff, screaming. One man manages to make it up to the rafters where I am, but just barely. He jumps right as the floor collapses beneath him. He's just holding on by his arms and he's screaming and yelling and making all sorts of noise, noise which this monster is obviously sensitive to. So, I stomp on his hand as hard as I can, and he falls to his death. I couldn't risk helping him if he was going to be so loud, and endanger both our lives.

The monster hears his William Tell-like scream, and notices me. I am mortified, and he walks quickly forward and reaches out his hand to pick me up from the rafters...

... and I wake up.

There was no opening act. Who could possibly open for Roger Waters? One of the brilliant minds behind Pink Floyd.
There was a huge projected video image playing the entire time of the concert, about the size of an IMAX screen or bigger. It played the whole time. Sometimes videos of things pertaining to the song. During one of his new songs, the entire song story/plot was outlined in comicbook form as a slideshow on the screen, with the lyrics as the dialogue in the comic. It was quite cool. Other times there were trippy images of spirals, the moon changing colors, so on and so forth.

About a third of the way through the show, a HUGE floating PIG came out of nowhere from the left side of the entrance to the concert venue. As it approached, this two to three story (I'd guess) tall inflated pig had written on it's side such things as "End the War Now." On the reverse side there was written "OBAMA" with a huge checkmark next to it!!! While the pig was flying around, there was confetti released from above, and it was small pieces of paper with the same thing written on it: "Obama" with a check mark, indicating voting. On the pig's behind there was "Impeach Bush!" and drawn underneath the pig was a large penis, with the word "Cheney." (awesome: "Dick" Cheney, hahaha. The pig was led around the entire concert area, including the covered area as well as the lawn. Near the end of it's journey it was released into the air, floating away into the distance until only a speck was visible.

There was an intermission between playing of his various songs and some songs from The Wall, upon returning from the break he began playing The Dark Side of the Moon, the crowd went wild. The smell of marijuana was rampant but welcome. The two beers I had purchased were overpriced, but it didn't matter.

After finishing The Dark Side of the Moon and getting a standing ovation from the twenty thousand people, they departed from the stage and I was wondering what their encore could be.

They came back not too long after and played Another Brick in the Wall Part 2, and finished with Comfortably Numb, full with explosions behind them, and a huge pyramid prism that lowerded from the cieling, emitting a rainbow-colored lazor on one side, and a bright white one on the other, rotating and turning, hitting the screen and the crowd. I sang my heart out, and couldn't hold back the tears. It was so beautiful. A truly life-defining experience. One of the best things I've ever experienced in my life. A dream, seeing Pink Floyd, for all practical purposes, live. The guitarist was fucking amazing, and I think he might even have played the songs better than Gilmore.

I sit here still stunned. No words can fully express how fantastic it was. I've been to hundreds of concerts in my life, my friends will attest to that, none even hold a candle to this.

My roommate took some photos and video, I might upload later. They aren't that great though.
I feel so amazingly lucky. This was a once in a lifetime expeirence. He's only touring in FOUR North American cities, and one HAPPENS to be Dallas? Wow. Gilmore doesn't play, and of course Floyd hasn't played fully united since Live Aide in 2005. Before that even longer. They're all getting old, so it's not too much to assume this might be his last time around.
Wow. All I can really say.

The new galleries are new, if you haven't noticed. You can make folders and shit, organize shit, rearrange it, much like flickr... all I can say is... FINALLY!, jesus! LOL! All these years... finally.

Now, to fix some problems:
Please make a way to batch organize photos. I don't even have 200 and it was a pain in the ass...
Take hints from flickr, add a "batch sort; oldest first, newest first, by date, by title" etc. Let users who aren't subscribed see more than 24 deviations (or whatever it is), this makes it a pain in the ass.

So, yeah, everyone go do this, lolz. I'm still not done with mine, but since it's such a pain, I'll do it later.
