The Spiral Staircase
An old thriller. The fact that the main character can't speak really makes it extra horrible. When you need to scream and can't - how awful is that?? The use of the light and shadow in the black and white is exemplary!

Wait Until Dark
Ok, nothing supernatural or exceedingly shocking here but again, "disability" vs horrible things happening is scary as hell. The wonderful people of OLD AMC (wahhhhh Mr. Clooney I miss you!!!! 8A8) not this new flashy AMC once told me how the pitch blackness of the theater in the ending sequence was intentional and heightened the shared fear of the audience with that of the ever so wonderful Audrey Hepburn. Alan Arkin as Roat is really intense! It's nice to see a movie that doesn't resort to nothing but gore.

Nosferatu
Ok, if you haven't seen this silent classic, do so. Seriously, the vampire played by Max Schreck is creepy as all getout. And their use of shadow - amazing. Seriously amazing.

Session 9
New terror. The sequence with the chainlink fences scares me. The insane scare me. Seriously, the only "insane" person I have liked was Murdock from the A-Team! It's really intense and spooky till David Caruso ruins it with his F*ck youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu moment. I mean I laughed retardedly at that point....

Deep Blue Sea
Ok... It's not Jaws but Jaws doesn't scare me. It did when I was a kid but now I just love it too much - so this isn't about Jaws. This is about super intelligent incredibly huge mako sharks. Have you ever seen a mako shark? Can you imagine one that big??? AND SMART WTF WHAT KIND OF GOOD IDEA IS THAT?? The robot makers did such an excellent job on them that the sharks undo a lot of the fun humor of the actors for me. Seriously. Just seeing them on the screen sends chills up and down my spine.

Arachnophobia
I watched right up to where the spider leapt at the guy's face in the very beginning, shut it off and rewound it (YES BACK IN THE VHS DAYS!) and I have never ever watched it. Sorry. You can tell me all you want that it is hilarious. Spiders are my biggest phobia.

Also I find it incredibly embarrassing to tell anyone that my favorite style of dance music is hardcore. I mean how do you say that and hot have people thinking - oh you're a perv ha ha hardcore.?? And yet here I am admitting it. Maybe it is a weird symbiosis between me and these journals I am not sure anyone reads. Maybe it is a sort of therapy to admit it. I don't know. I just know I heard DJ Shimamura and I wish I could download more of his stuff. It felt oldschool and new.

So... Once again I am sitting around watching shark week and I think... All I have learned since I was small is death is in the ocean. See... My Dad was Coast Guard. We ALWAYS lived near the water. I was always IN the water. I always swam out till I could no longer see land... Until I was like 7 or 8 and I saw JAWS for the first time. Ok, I had been told innumerable times "Don't go too deep there are sharks." But when I was that little I was all.. What is this sharks? What is there to worry about things I have not seen. Oh it is a big fish? Well I like fish. I will swim out to sea anyway. Then JAWS. Ok JAWS watched now is just... delightful propaganda. I love it. It is in my top 10 movies. No I am serious. But at the time I saw it it was like a huge neon sign going - Trish you could have died like... A MILLION TIMES. The sudden stark realization of mortality hits and I did the only thing I could - I stopped swimming out to sea and I researched.

One of the things I got FROM MY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LIBRARY was this book called aptly SHARK ATTACK! Which was nothing but horrific stories of shark attacks around the world coupled with the most exquisitely beautiful and absolutely gory horrifying paintings ever. I mean I wish in my heart I had stolen this book cuz the paintings were amazingly pretty... and just... nonstop horror and nightmare fuel. The one that is emblazoned in my memory forever are these tigersharks inexplicably in the Amazon River tearing apart a rubber raft to get at the people inside. OK. Malarky. We all know that. But it was beautiful, red blood misting down into the yellow gold water, green cool trees and the sharks everywhere and the screaming people. Gorgeous. Horrifying though. But I ate it up.

So Wherever you are book I wish I will find you someday. And O Shark Week that comes every year bringing me tales of death in the sea - I love you too. I love that they are synthesizing the pattern and texture of shark skin for medical surfaces because it inhibits the growth and bloom of bacteria. I also love that every victim they talk to says the same thing - "Well you can't blame the shark." I don't know how many of you have watched the first 2 shark weeks but they had shown parts of old "documentaries" that had been done on sharks which just flat out portrayed them as villains and eating machines and evil EVIL EVIL. It's nice to see that perceptions are changing but are they happening too slowly to help?

Who knows? Not me certainly...

I mean heck, I didn't even know that there were volcanoes in Russia!

Anyway... Lately all I want to do is sleep. I wake up in the morning tired, I have a long day because I feel tired and I go to bed early... to wake up tired... Crazy. I think it is the humidity. I dried out so much in Texas I can't just return suddenly back to my amphibious self. But my allergies are better than I have ever had them. Seriously. I would die in Texas from spring into winter and then be sick in winter. WTH. But back in Florida which is apparently not full of death for me I am much better now.

I watched Warehouse 13 last night and enjoyed it. I don't like Sci Fi becoming SyFy. I think that is mildly tarded but what can you do? Their party commercial is pretty nice though but it could be because I have been missing my shows like it's gothic romance. I am not sure how I feel about Stargate Universe. I mean... I'll watch it. But I'm still sad over the loss of my SG-Atlantis. *sob* I'll never stray from you Sheppard!! And no, I still have not forgiven SG-1 for what they did to Corin Nemec. Parker Lewis!!!!!

Also... has anyone else seen this sort of pre-shark week commercials and site? frenziedwaters.com? Just the fact that people are in the water and such gives me chills. The site is one of those mysterious "when did I start playing a puzzle game" sort of things but I hope more is revealed by the dates the jars open.

Ok. yanno TV is amazing. It's entertaining and educational and EDUTAINING. Edutaining is the sweet sweet amalgam of making you learn stuff by having things rock in a whole new way. Cases in point. Many animal vs. animal shows. That's great and all cuz who doesn't want to see shark vs crocodile?? Anyway I digress. What I want to share is my new joy in this Deadliest Warrior show. Samurai vs Viking? (Totally viking dudes), Ninja vs Spartan? As long as it's not 300 totally ninjas. And that is saying a lot as a pirate.

But seriously. I <3 samurai and all but Vikings would totally jack them up cuz a Samurai fights for honor. Viking fights for food. Werd.

I want to write better journals. Not my blah blah silly life stuff because.... I never want anyone in my life business anyways. Well unless I am griping about my cable being canceled randomly without any notice to me. Then it would be all about me and I would want to be showered in sympathy. But... Other than that I would like to just write better more intelligent journals.
