Graduated college, and out from under my parents roof. so hafta get a job, balance work and art and all that crap. haha big change, and alot to be nervous about, but exciting at the same time.

anyway, i apologize for being away for so long! its my stupid ISP's fault. nothing under the deviantart.com domain would load on any computer under the ISP im using, and unfortunately, all the other internet sources that i could get to easily are using the same ISP! figgers. so its been that way for like, weeks now, which has really been pissing me off! i just got my deviations back to a manageable number, now its back to over 100! hahah oh well.

so anyway, now that im back, im glad to get back to seeing peoples new art and commenting and uploading!

as far s my aart though, ive been rather stumped lately. ive been having sort of an 'artists block' for the last few weeks. im sure its in connection to the insane amount of stress ive been getting from school. usually, school work gets my brain stimulated, and, in turn, my imagination up and running! thats why most of my artwork occurs when im AT school! lol but this recent semester, it hasnt really been stimulation ive been getting from school, more like just pure STRESS! sooo many projects, and requirements that i have to fulfill before the deadly deadlines. ive just been drained. so i dont have much more new artwork to be uploading, but i do have some old stuff. hehe

as for the 'break' in my title. i think im gonna be taking a break from drawing quarquettes for a while.
i really like them, and i have a few more to upload yet, but as far as drawing, im gonna try to do other things. like i said, i still really like this series, its just that ive been drawing them so much and pretty much ONLY them for the past few months, and on top of the fact that the style is so simple; ive found that im having a hard time drawing anything ASIDE from quarquettes... any characters i try to draw seem to end up having the same teeth and eyes and bean-shaped body! its a little bit frustrating! hahah

so im gonna try and steer away from them for a while probably. heheh but now that DA is up and running on my computer, i DO have alot of art that im behind on uploading, so be on the lookout for that!

aside from the fact that "Quark" is my general persona/identity on the internet (and even on my campus actually! haha), ive always like the concept of quarks being the theoretical, fundamental basis of all physical matter in the universe. and my comics, hopefully, illustrate concepts that are integral in the human psyche. hehehe

then with the "-ettes" suffix, it gives the impression of innumerable minions or offspring, or backup singers of whatever. and that seems to fit, considering the fact that my characters never have any identities, but rather, are simply used as objects to illustrate a point. hehe

AND it has TWO "q-u" combos! how many words have TWO "q-u" combos?! its so awesome! hahaha


anyway, just lettin everybody know, so you can be ejumacated. let me know what you think.

oh, and ps- im also hopefully planning to start printing these on Tshirts and selling them, but itd only be quite small time, only here in the Philippines. so sorry if anyone else would be interested. heheheh

first of all, with the last of my birthday money, i made a 100% spontaneous purchase, but i dont regret it at all. what was it? the Calvin and Hobbes collection "Attack of the Deranged Mutant Killer Monster Snow Goons"! i am VERY happy. i am an insane Calvin and Hobbes fan, and this collection marks the LAST comic collection that i had yet to purchase. so now i can say that i own EVERY CALVIN AND HOBBES COMIC EVER PUBLISHED!!! hahaha i even have the special "10th anniversary" book. hehehe

i am just a major fan of Bill Watterson. the way he expresses his views through the separate personalities of calvin and of hobbes, i just love his stand on issues. i can so relate to him. Reading calvin and hobbes is a bigger experience to me than just chuckling at some witty comics, its like reading insights into my own mind! seriously. i realized also, that since ive been reading the strip since i was a kid, it seems that it has also played a part in shaping my personality and world view.

i also realized that since this is the first book ive bought since ive been older than 10, hehe, i find that i wind up thinking more about that author, his approach in drawing, his inspiration, what hes trying to teach with the strip and things like that, rather than just taking everything for face value as just a little kid and his tiger....

suffice it to say, im inspired.

the result, i guess, is that most of my drawings as of late have been in a psuedo-comic format. not an actual comic-strip per se, but with frames and speech bubbles. that sort of thing. and ive sort of ressurected the genre which i kindof created by accident with my "whiteboard series" [link] . everyone loved what quite generally came to be known as "the Bean people" and kept asking me to do more. i like it as well, but i never felt the urge to do it again. i dont really like forcing things of creativity, so i didnt do much with it until recently.

so ive got a good helping of Bean People illustrations (theyre not as beany though. hehe) that ill be putting up here on my gallery soon.

last day of school was... dang, more than a week ago, i forget already.
i have no idea what day it is, what the date or time is, and I DONT CARE! wooh! i can feel myself forgetting everthing i learned in the past whole year!

nothing but late mornings, lazy days and videogames for me!

but seriously, im glad to see that semester gone. way too stressful for my taste...

now, on the topic of dance-dancing, tomorrow is i giant street-dance competition at my schooool! yay! and im part of it! wooh!

me and some of my classmates grouped together, and high on inspiration from watching "Stomp the Yard", got us sumbuddy to put some choreography together for us, i mixed us some tunes, and in a few days time (hours practice after class, mind you), we had our routine together!

so im psyched. its been a while since ive THROWN DEAWN!!! but i still got what it takes! so bring it on playa! show me wachu GOT, foo! haha...

dang im lame.

anyway, tis the season (as is reflected by my smexy new avatar!), so i just thought id fill everyone in on how ive been.

yay.

first of all, im happy, because christmas break has officially started, as of wednesday! no more school! (well, for a week... )
so hopefully, i will have some time on my hands to do things that i like, such as art, and videogames, nightlifing and corresponding with friends on other planets.

i do need to stop waking up at 2pm though. O_o lol

ive been getting into the seasons spirit when it comes to gift-buying though. my grammama sent me and my siblings a bunch of dough to buy ourselves goodies, but i ended up using it all on gifts for other people... i think ive been too generous!

no, i like buying gifts for other people. its fun. imagining the looks on their faces when they unrap it... and besides, buying gifts for all my sisters gives me an excuse to look at girls fashions in the mall! haha

i did buy a little for myself though.

my first purchase was a videogame called Blockland! [link]
its pretty much an unlimited univers where you can build what ever you want out of blocks that are rip-offs of Lego bricks. its better than any lego game ive ever played or even heard of. and theres no syndicate crap that impedes on the gameplay. and the best part is, you can go online and hook up and play with other people. building contests, deathmatches, races, whatever you can think of!!! ITS SO FUN!!!

needless to say, im letting out the creator in me.

the other buy i made for myself is a couple manga comic books! ive always wanted to buy some, and since i found some on sale, and i had some wad, i got 2 reasonably-sized comix. theyre issues 1 and 2 of a comic called "Solar Boy: Django!". (its also a video game, i believe) anyway, its fun and adventurous. basically, little boy fights zombies, monsters and vampires with the power of the sun! its had me in serious stitches once or twice already. and the art is very nice. im pleased!

finally, i am really psyched for Hellboy 2!
i dont know ANYTHING about it aside from the fact that its coming. i dont want to see a single preview or promo pic until im sitting, watching it on the big screen.

i also can wait for the new batman, and the ironman movies coming. i hope theyre good. (hmmmm ironbatman? nah...)

the artisic mystique at work here is that, since ive been learning fancy colouring/special-effects in photoshop to make my doodly sketches look more attractive, my plain old sketches (which are still pretty much the meat of my gallery), are starting to pale in comparison.

i considered deleting or moving all my sketches to scraps. but then, i wouldnt any gallery at all left. and my drawings, no matter how primitive, are still very close to my heart.

but it would be rather redundant (and space-consuming) to have both the original sketch and the finalized version in my main gallery...

so after much consideration and consultation (credit, yet again, to ~chuckporter), i have decided that the following will transpire:

if i upload a drawing with pretty colours and digital yummyness added to it, it will have a link to the original sketch, whick i will upload into my scraps.

and if i decide to colour an old drawing that is already here in my gallery, when i upload the new version, the original will be moved to scraps, with a link to it in the final...

this way, the original drawings still get seen without crowding my gallery!

well, its just that my University replaced the old, dusty chalkboards in the junior and senior classrooms with new, fancy, clean, shiny whiteboards. but since dry-erase markers arent just lying all around the classrooms like chalk used to be, you cant doodle on the board unless you have a marker of your own. so i bought one.

and then, the weirdest thing, i found a little white board at home! really, its like, a little bigger than a peice of paper. and ive just been going insane, doodling stuff, then snapping pics of them... i just unleashed my imagination. its quite disturbing actually, the things i can think of...
