i entered and asked them if i could have a look at it. and to my surprise the shop owner agreed (an enlightening experience after reading some horror-stories of shop owners telling their possible customers how to fondle a leica properly).
he even let me go out on the street and take some snaps with the 28mm elmarit on.
the body itself feels pretty bulky but well built like you would expect from a leica.
the viewfinder was really nice. really bright and a pleasure to focus. i had no problems at all with seeing the framelines.
but what i really like about it is that leica managed to adept the feeling of a film camera to the digital world (one downer though: no advance lever...).
although i won't be able to afford one within the next two years (but then i probably will be...and a nice lens or a mp as my primary weapon of choice. it's pretty handy to have a financial adviser as a dad...and finally i have some money to invest.)
i still hate the crop factor!
and after all it's just a camera.
it takes photos. just like my crappy fed3 does.
nevertheless a great camera. and another camera shop i'll buy some stuff from!
hope your camera dealer is just as nice as he is.

i finally finished the roll that i had in my camera for so long now.
i'll develop it with my old x-tol tomorrow.
i'm eager to see if it develops just as bad as the last two rolls.
the developer should still be fine.
i ordered some new though along with some film.
lucky shd400 (i'm really looking forward to playing around with the blown highlights of this film!) and some kodak tri-x (finally! let's see what the highlights look like compared to HP5+).

i really need a break from going out and getting drunk all weekend.
i can hardly remember the last 3-4 weekends.
that sucks!
not that i won't party anymore, but this time without alcohol (i think i'll stick to tonic water).
drum&bass again this weekend.
i'm getting sick of it...i want some real music again!

i was asked to do such stuff before, but i never felt like doing it.

there's a school prom coming up next weekend.
already got my ticket.
i'm excited to got there.
haven't been to a prom for a really long time.
guess it's gonna be fun.
i can't even remember the last time i went out in the evening.
that's sad.

i mainly wrote this cause i got sick of seeing the same old journal on my page.

i'm really enjoying my education as a medic. it's definitely a better choice than the army.
i learn things i really need in life and the people are really cool and laid back.
so i'm doing pretty well. i only have to get used to getting up early (i was spoiled by university the last few months)

unfortunately my working hours don't allow me to take as much photos as i'd like to, but I'm sure I'll finish a roll of HP5+ soon.
the OM-1 is a fucking great camera. i love every aspect of it (except for the lack of a iso3200 setting, but thats a rather unimportant detail).
i'm really looking forward to see how the 28mm f2.0 performs.

well, i should leave the decision to my parents more often. its boring to know what you'll get for christmas two weeks early like i did the last few years leaving no space for surprises.
this year they came up with one of the best presents i ever got: [link]

a BLACK olympus om-1 including a 50mm 1.8, 35-105mm 3.5 and a 24mm 2.8
AND today a 28mm 2.0 (!) arrived!

i love this camera! its so small, quiet and well black
the viewfinder is so big and bright compared to my other cameras.

i spent a very nice and calm christmas eve together with my parents and my little brother eating salmon and drinking some tasty white wine.
the holidays go by too fast for my taste at the moment.

and there are events coming up that will cloud my sunny mind (how poetic)
i will have to take office at the red cross for nine months starting in january.
that means leaving all my friends in vienna for a pretty long time

well, thats all that comes to my mind right now.

i was pretty busy learning stuff at university these days, but that has changed two weeks ago.
now you wonder what i was doing the last two weeks.
at first getting drunk before the clock showed 6pm.
then.
nothing really interesting.
i didnt get to shoot much, so there's a lack of submissions i know.
and since my ol' fujica isnt willing to work like it should, i'm a bit frustrated about photography right now.
i'll either buy a new body or get the old one serviced.
depends on whats cheaper.

at least i have the fed...that decided to fall apart today.
there was a film in it!
stupid thing!
i managed to fix it tho...russian quality.

thank god my social life doesnt suck as much as my cameras do.

went to the razorlight gig last wednesday

i was invited to a friends birthday party. free drinks (i conquered the 2l vodka bottle + 2l of apple juice) , loads of food (the chili was tasty) and my camera!
that was the first time i went out with a camera. i always thought a camera would be a pain in the ass when going out, but i discovered that it really isnt. i had a blast shooting everything that came up my lens...
later on an old friend of mine crashed the party...and he had his dslr with him! well, i "stole" it and took photos all night long... the autofocus can be really helpful when you're drunk!
2 rolls of hp5 and hundreds of digital images.
i'm really thinking about getting a cheap dslr (sth like the 300d) just for parties.
dont worry i'm still not a great fan of digital cameras...but theres a time and place even for digital.

not to mention that i got the girl in the end

i write this entry, because there's something going on in the community of photographers here on dA...
more and more start to back out of dA and use blogs instead.
i dont know if i'm happy about this development...
dA, or better, some of the admins really offer good reasons to leave this place.
instead of thinking about not so nice critique some people prefer to run to the admins. if you cant take harsh critique, then bug off you lame wimps!

the blogs i saw are really great and i enjoy reading the stories many of the photographers have to tell, but i'm also sad about the lack of community spirit.
dA gives a great opportunity to interact with others, that i miss when reading the blogs. they lack the system including comments on single artworks, giving faves and watches...
