I'm thinking maybe San Diego.

Have watched all the current seasons of Bones and am fiercely in love with that show. I particularly like that the side characters are as fun and well-developed as the main duo. Cam could probably use a little more development, as could Sweets, but Angela, Jack, and Zach are all fully-fleshed out characters, which I appreciate.

It's fun to have a new fandom. I did a doodle, very quick and highly revealing of my inability to draw anatomy properly. That might be why I like drawing faces.

It's a witty, sardonic, sometimes achingly real parody of comic book-style superheroes.

If you liked Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, you'd adore this book.
HEY COSPLAYERS! If anyone who appears in the cosplay images I took would like a full-sized image file for printing, send me a Private Message with your email address. I have several shots of the group, and I only posted one of them here on D.A.

Purchases:
*pepper spray
*a Sonic Screwdriver with black light, "invisible ink", and psychic paper (Doctor Who)
*Penny Arcade collection # 5: The Case of the Mummy's Gold, signed
*Lone Wolf & Cub #1
*a nasty pretzel, two cookies, soda, sandwiches, a beer, ice cream, chips
*a print of that fantastic "companion" group photo from the 4th season of Doctor Who, signed "J Barrowman ...Captain Jack"

Panels attended:
Joss Whedon & Dr. Horrible Crew
Stargate: Continuum
Stargate: Worlds
Stargate: Atlantis
Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay
Hamlet 2 (the second half, anyway)

Panels I meant to attend but blew off:
Avatar: The Last Airbender - Finale
Dollhouse
Fraggle Rock 25th Anniversary (I was giving blood at the time, and that took a while)
Ray Bradbury

Screenings:
Eureka
Stargate: Atlantis
Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog

Celebrities I met, or at least shook hands/hugged:
Felicia Day
John Barrowman

Signatures:
John Barroman
Penny Arcade

Yes, I skipped the ATLA panel. I just didn't want to listen to the questions I knew the audience would ask. And besides, I've never been that interested in the production side of ATLA. I don't keep myself informed about the writers/directors for ATLA the way I did about Buffy or Doctor Who, and I don't really care about their off-record answers to questions. I am content with the finale in its self-contained awesomeness. And yes, this means I didn't see the fanart "video" thing until that night, on youtube. I am told that the audience loved it, but the online fandom seems disgruntled. I dunno... I just feel kinda sorry for the fanartists. It was hilarious, yeah, but if you didn't like it then that kind of sucks that they used your art to do it. It's like.. they're fan-vidding your fanart of their show. A twisted circle.

I did make it to the ATLA cosplay fan meet-up, however. That was a lot of fun at first, but a bit boring as the day dragged on. I didn't go in any costumes, so mostly I took pictures of other people in their costumes. I flirted a bit, sat around a lot, took pictures, listened to my Creative Zen MP3 player. It was nice that we met in a really open area, near these enormous floor-to-ceiling windows and some air-conditioning vents.

and her sis and I sat through the three Stargate panels to get decent seats for the Dr. Horrible panel, but that was cool because I have been a pretty steady viewer of Stargate: Atlantis. My favorite part, however, was Ben Browder. It totally slipped my mind that he'd be there for the "SG1: Continuum" panel, since I barely followed SG1 anyway, but he was very hot. He had a shirt that was partially unbuttoned and looked like he was just strolling around on the weekend or something, whereas many of the other celebs looked more formal. I'm still crushing on him from Farscape.

The Dr. Horrible panel was great, very funny, though they didn't sing (!). I was already crushing on NPH, but now I can that I am definitely more than a little crushing on Nathan Fillion. I've always liked his characters on screen (Captain Mal...), but now I've got an bona fied Actor Crush too. Especially since someone linked me to his MySpace page and I realized he's a good writer, too. So, yeah, crushing. Side note: hotter live than on tv! For most people it's the other way around.

Comic Con was amazing. I'll post a few pictures later, after I sort through them.

I met several people from LiveJournal and DevArt while at the convention, which was a treat. Some of them I knew before hand, others I'll now be out looking for on various major fan sites.

It was a bit weird to out myself as a fan because I've only met a few other fans from the internet before, and those were always personal meet-ups, never at a huge convention. It's so odd to see cosplayers on the internet and know that yesterday I was watching them goof around ten feet from where I sat, leaning against the giant plate glass windows and listening to the ripped soundtrack of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog on endless repeat.

I met a couple of people that I went totally fangirl on, which I'm at various stages of content/embarrassed about. BNFs and actual celebrities alike.

Felicia Day: So nice! And so tiny. You really can't tell from the camera.

John Barrowman: I met Captain Jack! Seriously, I MET CAPTAIN JACK! I walked by and was surprised to see him doing buy-in signatures, so I bought in. We shook hands, I said I was a huge fan, he let me take his picture. I was exceedingly mature and mundane for what was going on in my head. Luckily it wasn't David Tennant or Christopher Eccleston, because I definitely wouldn't have been so composed.

Having met him in person, JB is my choice for Captain Hammer in a hypothetical stage musical version of Dr. Horrible. He looks that perfect mixture of hot/smarmy.

On Saturday I purchased a black light Sonic Screwdriver, which I put together on the spot using my Wave Leatherman Knife-Tool* (every girl should have one!) and the help of Irrel and her sister. Yes, sadly, it turned into a collaborative group project...the thing would not let go of the other thing.

Today, Sunday, I went around the exhibit hall randomly "zapping" people with my Sonic Screwdriver in the hopes that someone would tell me to put it away. No one did, but I got funny looks. I really had way, way too much fun with that toy. So worth the fifteen bucks!

Favorite geek moment: "FREEZE FRAME HIGH FIVE!" (like three separate occasions)

*My Leatherman knife tool really is my personal "sonic screwdriver", and every girl should have one. Not only are they useful for assembling things on the spot and for cutting things and general survival, but I'd probably buy it anyway just for the looks and comments I get from people when I bring it out. People really don't expect girls or women to know the business end of any kind of tool, much less think of them as useful items to carry on your person.

The entirety of LJ is spazzing, and rightly so. It was spazz-worthy.

Some stuff from my LJ, not quite quotes and not quite parody fic:

DAVROS: "Commence testing!"
DOCTOR: "Testing of what?"
DAVROS: "The Reality Bomb."
DOCTOR: "You mean that thing that happens when a person is, say, for example, running toward their true love in full sprint and they get shot in the chest by a passing-by alien? That kind of reality bomb?"
DAVROS: "Cheeky."
ROSE: "You have no idea."
DOCTOR: "Cause, that kind of reality bomb is, well, very uncool. "
ROSE: "Time and place, Doctor."
DOCTOR: " 'M just saying. That kind of thing can really get a bloke down. You've got dreams, and expectations---"
ROSE: "I'll hug you later just please shut up!"

RASHAKA: "Oh Jack, must you shoot the glowy lazer gun from your penis area?"
JACK: "What d'you mean? Where else do glowy lazers shoot from?"

MICKEY: *walks past, gives a finger*
DOCTOR: "Hey! Where's the love dude?"
MICKEY: "Let's just get this over with, I'm too cool for these things."
DOCTOR: "Since when are you cool?"
MICKEY: "Since you made my girlfriend a superhero and she made me a superhero too. See, I'm a really amazingly together guy, now. I know where my towel is."
DOCTOR: "Where is it?"
MICKEY: "...In another dimension."
DOCTOR: "Oh yeah, you're a real frood."

So, after a few hours... yeah, I loved it. My head is spinning over the Doctor stuff but as a finale, it kicked so much ass in comparison to last season.

And even if it's under bizarre or strained circumstances, kissing is hot.
