Mood: Frustrated
Listening to: Silence

So we've been in St. Albert since the 29th of August (at least I believe it was the 29th), and I'm still lacking in the area of full time employment. This is not due to a lack of trying though. I think I've been in contact with pretty near every Web and Graphic design firm in the Edmonton and St. Albert areas. I'd like to continue on with the freelance gig, but right at this point that even seems to be slowing down. I've been told by a few local printers that this time of year tends to be a little slow, but things pick up before, and after Christmas.

I'm almost at my wits end searching for full time employment. I'm not going to give up, because I know that this is what I want to do for a career, but god damn it's discouraging. I feel that I produce attractive, quality work, and I'm just waiting for someone to recognize that. I've spent countless hours searching job databases, making phone calls, networking with everyone that I possibly can, but to no avail. I realize that it is a difficult industry to break into, and I guess that's what I'm waiting for, is someone to give me that break. I continue to try to improve myself as a designer through projects such as the design for From Away, also the portal for what has become the Jeff Smith Designs Network, as well I'm also working on redesigning my my portfolio to give it a fresh new look in the hopes that will attract some more business.

At the present, I'm considering taking out an ad in a few of the local papers, to try and advertise myself, hoping that someone will catch the bug, and give me a chance at a job, or even another interview. I really dislike the idea of prostituting myself such as this, but I'm starting to run out of ideas. If anyone has any contacts they can pass along to me, any job leads, what have you, please drop me an email or get a hold of me on MSN at the same address (AIM: jeffsmithdesigns).

I'm very bored of the current layout of the page, so I'm going to rework the whole layout of the site as well as the site organization. I'm going with a lot smoother, cleaner, feel to the site. Got a ton of ideas in my head, and I'm hoping to start on the design tomorrow if I get some free time during the day.

Stay tuned for updates!

**UPDATE #1: I've made a ton of progress today on the graphical side of the layout for Jeff Smith Designs V2. I'm really liking the way this layout is turning out, I think it's even smoother, and more refined than the last layout. I'm definitely much more satisfied with it. Below you'll find a tiny preview:

I'm going to try to finish off the graphics side of the layout by tomorrow afternoon, hopefully and then I'll have to give good ol' APC a little attention, I've been kind of ignoring any changes that I've planned to make there for a while because I've been a bit busy with work. Anyhow, stay tuned for more updates!

Well, I've finally hit 1000 page views. Still not that many comments though, I'd rather see many more comments about my work than page views, but I suppose that will come with time.

In other news has invited me to join devUnit, an up and coming DA art group. It's going to be a while before we start releasing art packs as we have to get organized and get our website up and running (devUnit Website. Thanks once again for inviting me to join guys!

That's all for now, hopefully I'll be adding some new pieces in the next few days if time allows.

Listening to: Just 'Cos You Got The Power - Motorhead
Watching: Replay of Tampa Bay's win last night

Well, I've finally got the website completed! Well...mostlly. Still haven't made it completely XTHML 1.1 strict which is what I had planned, I'm getting 5 or 6 errors when I run it through the validator, but that shouldn't take too long to fix, just gotta get off my ass and take care of it. Everyone should definitely take a look at it though and let me know what they think. I've put a ton of time and effort into integrating MovableType so it makes it super easy for me to update the site with new work and such. It's so nice to have it completed.

On another note, Tampa Bay won the Stanley Cup last night as I'm sure everyone already knows. I'm especially excited because my hometown boy Brad Richards led the league in playoff scoring and also won the Conn Smythe trophy for playoff MVP. It's gonna be really awesome to see the Stanley Cup come home to PEI. I'll have to definitely make the trip to the Island to see the cup and I'm sure it will be quite the party.
I'm creating some skins for a Samurize Widget created by Tadis over at Tadis:WEB. I can't reveal any of these just yet as some of them are based on some Mac and Windows themes and I'm still waiting permission to release them.

The other project I've started on is another vehicle drawing. This time it's a 2003 Triumph Daytona 600. I've been playing the new 007 game on Xbox and this bike shows up a lot during the game so I decided to make my next conquest. Here's a little peek at what I've got done so far:

Listening to: Pennywise - Now I know

So I finally went and got my new tattoo yesterday. It is the family crest of my mother's side of the family, Clan Crawford. The inscription on the crest reads: "Tutem Te Robore Reddam" which means: "I will render you safe by my strength."

The shading still doesn't look that great because my skin is still a little dyed from some of the ink that seeped out after the tattoo was done. It didn't take that long, only about an hour, I expected it to be a little longer but the artist that did it is really good. I had it done at "Red Lion Tattooing Studio" here in Fredericton. Lyon Harris is the artist. He also did my first tattoo.

I hate Mondays...

Listening to: Jane's Addiction - True Nature
Watching: Ghostbusters

Yeah, today just wasn't a good day at all. First off it's Monday, my most hated day of the week. Mondays and I just don't get along at all. Second is that we had a little mishap over at AdvancedPC and we kinda gotta start from scratch again, which sucks, but it could be worse. We didn't have a huge amount of members just yet, so it shouldn't take long to get everyone back. Not a real big deal, but things like this always seem to happen on Mondays.

Not too much progress on any of my projects really. I've been somewhat busy with schoolwork, plus my birthday was this past weekend, which took care of Saturday and Sunday. I do have a set of icons in the works though, nothing really exciting, but it's going to be a pretty substantial set when I release them, so I'm kinda pumped about that. Other than that not a whole lot new.

I've settled back into a daily routine of schoolwork and I'm finally finding some time to work on some of my own projects. A couple that are in the works are a vector of a 2005 Mustang GT and a drawing of a 1958 Gibson Les Paul:

I'm also planning to start working on my portfolio website soon, hopefully. I've got movable type pretty much ready to go, there's a few hacks that I'd like to install, but things are proceeding along nicely. My main problem with respect to the site at the moment is choosing a layout. I've got four our five options that I've come up with, but it seems that every day my mind changes as to what one I'd like to use. Oh well, plenty of time for that...

As for the website being finished this month, I can't see it happening, because I have a feeling that on Monday, a bunch more work will land in my lap. Plus, I haven't touched any schoolwork in a few days, and that really should get a couple of full days of my attention. Not that I am behind. I'm actually a few months ahead, but the faster I get school done, the fast I can concentrate on landing some bigger freelance jobs and actually finding a "real job".

Well, it's 3:15 AM and I'm sitting here watching an old episode of Viva La Bam..think it's time to hit the hay.
