Things have had th change a lot since I've been laid off. I do have a job now though working as a general maintenance man for a local water park. it's not much but it's work. Also, it's actually for the best since I've decided to go back to school. Anyway, I do still check here and I watch those that I watch. Though I may not comment as much, please know I do still care. I have nearly 500 posts to go through STILL. So, just so you all know, I am still around, look for a couple new pics by yours truley in the near future.
---redsky---

I've posted a photo, taken with my new D60, and am trying out the DA water mark due to the rampant theft that's out there. Take a look at it here [link] . It also will not let me add the water mark unless I choose a DA prefab size for my image; I'd rather be able to use my own sizing. Personally I hate it. What do you think? Does anyone know of a freeware program that would let me add a water mark that's a little easier on the eye?

Holy crap! Will this cycle ever end?! Here I am sick with a cold...again... It's something like the fourth I've had this winter. I've been taking my vitamins and using hand sanitizer and washing my hands and doing what I can. But it just doesn't seem to be enough. I do work closely with others and I think we've just been passing it around, like a bad game of "hot potato," that's right Dan P-O-T-A-T-O!!! Regardless, I guess I need to get my coworkers in on the whole health and sanity, or should I say sanitization, kick. Though we need some sanity around here too, to be sure.

This past month was something like ten degrees colder, on average, than years past. Subsequently, our heating bill is through the roof! Guess I'm going to hold off on building my lap-top cooling pad. Oh I forgot to mention...::casts an evil grin:: I got a new toy for my self with my Christmas bonus - a new laptop. It's an HP with an AMD Turion 2 Dual core processor (reason I need to make a cooling pad, that thing runs HOT!), 4 GB RAM, runs Vista Premium 64 bit, and has a host of other yummies that have made me very happy so far. I've hated Vista for a long time b/c my wifes laptop has it in Basic form running on a half gig of memory and my old laptop has XP. It was always such a chore to use hers after using mine. However, now that I'm using it nearly every day I've gotten quite a bit more used to it. By the way, I took pity and have since upgraded my wifes laptop to 2 Gigs of memory and WOW what a difference. It will even play WOW fairly well. Though she's extremely jealous of my new compy and wants a new one of her own. Granted I didn't go top of the line, I couldn't afford it. but what I have does everything I want it to do, and more, so I'm completely satisfied.

That's about it for now. Here's wishing everyone good health and safety.

What have I been doing that it's taken me so long to write a new journal entry? I was sick at the beginning of December and that's it?! NO no non! That's right I said "non". So what have I been doing? Well as far as my health goes, I've actually been sick quite a bit this winter. Last weekend, even, I had caught stomach flu...not fun. Other than that it seems like I've had a constant cold that I've not been able to kick until just recently.

Watched the bowl yesterday. It was actually a fairly exciting game.

I've gotten into WOW (World of Warcraft, a PC game for those of you not in the know) recently. Man it is addictive. When you suddenly realize you've lost 4 hours of your day b/c you just wanted to make the next level, again, ...and again, it's quite sobering. Then you just want to do it again the next day! XD I used to think it was sad for this sort of thing to happen to people, even though I've had previous addictions to games, i.e. Diablo and Diablo II and Starcaft and ...well we'll just stop there. However, WOW is a totally different beast. Even though you're immersed in a game word of fantasy, you're still in the presence of other very real people, LOTS of very real people. I'd say that nearly half of the WOW experience is the social interaction with others. It's even better when you have regular friends and family members online with you, better still for those that you don't get to see or talk to on a regular basis.

We finally bit the proverbial bullet and got a baby mobile. We got rid of my wifes POS Oldsmobile and got a Honda Odyssey. I had no idea of the progress that has been made in mini-vans. It's an '04 model EX-L with most of the bells and whistles I'd have expected from a semi-luxury sedan. I'm very pleased with the purchase and my wife loves it. Everybody's happy...although it means another car payment. However, being a used car purchase, it cost nowhere near as much as a used car so the payments are fairly low, considering. I still can't believe our find, the thing is in "like new" condition. Anyway, I digress.

I'm planning on going to Shamrockfest in Washington DC next month. Two of my cousins and I are going to splurge on VIP passes and do some serious celebrating. It may turn out to be something of a tradition, who knows.

I've been working on the pantry. We have this little room off our kitchen that the previous owners had turned into a laundry room. Who puts a laundry room in a kitchen?! Downstairs we have a bathroom, it used to be a full bath. I have no idea why you would need a full bathroom on floor with no bedrooms. Anyway, that bathroom and the little room which was the laundry room back up against each other. SO! I did what makes more sense to me. I ripped out the bathtub and some narrow shelves. I took all of the plumbing and electrical fixtures in the wall and flipped them around 180 degrees and moved the washer and dryer around into the bathroom. Then I added a deep-sink next to the washer and dry and VIOLA!, the walk-in pantry was conceived. I spent a lot of time devising and planning the shelves in there. I know, I know. Shelves...what's so hard about that? Well when you take into consideration what I'm going to tell you next you'll understand. One wall of the room has our instant hot water heater installed on it AND the wall is not solid. Our house had an addition put on the back side of it and evidently this portion of wall originally had a window. However! when they made the addition they didn't stud in the window opening! They just covered over it with sheet rock! Needless to say there's no support in that portion of the wall. On an adjacent wall we have the doorway and electrical panel. I discovered something freaky about the wall opposite the "ex-window" wall. About halfway from floor to ceiling the studs seem to migrate 8" off center! I have no idea how this would have happened during construction, it makes no sense WHATSOEVER, and yet it exists that way. it's as if they built the wall half way up and then decided to put in a sill, after which they decided to continue building the wall up but for some crazy reason thought it was a good idea to put the new studs lining up in between the lower ones. I hope I'm being clear enough here. You have no idea the kind of frustration I went through with this. Having to change design and remake pieces to mount in the middle of a project can really throw you off. But I adapted. So it's on its way to being complete, a true walk-in pantry with nearly wrap around shelving. It should help our kitchen get organized.

On a more artistic note. I have uncovered some older pictures which I'm going to try to post soon so be on the lookout for those. Hope everyone is doing well.

So I thought it was time to get a new face on the journal. Thanksgiving has come and gone; of course there was some family drama but hey, that's what happens when family gets together and you have as many crazies, in said family, as I happen to have. I ended up catching a cold; woke up in the middle of the night with a coughing fit and it's been down-hill ever since. So here I am drinking a hot whiskey, an old Irish remedy that actually seems to work, for whatever reason. It's 2 parts hot water to one part Irish whiskey mixed with a teaspoon of honey, a teaspoon of lemon juice and 4 cloves. It does the trick I gurantee.

So not only am I sick, but now our two month old son is sick as well. Needless to say, my need for sleep on the road to recovery is not being met; not that I'd be sleeping a whole lot even if he were not sick. So he's going to the doctor tomorrow and I'm going to work XD.

Let's see what else. I did gain about 4 pounds over the past week, DOH! And I've been trying to get rid of it too. Oh well. Starting a diet just before the holidays wasn't the smartest move one could make. So I'll just watch what I eat for now and really get back on it after the new year. Ok that's about it for now. Oh just as a side note, my laptop is a piece of junk. I have to use a separate keyboard b/c so many of the keys have gone out on it. The disc drive works when it wants to. At one point it wouldn't even turn on; I took it apart to see if there was a loose connection but didn't find anything. I put it back together, with four screws left over, and it worked again - no idea. Anyway, if anybody knows how I can get a new one without havning to sign up for umpteen "offers" or actually paying for one...FILL ME IN PLEASE! Later people.

And the simple reason for it is...I don't like any of the candidates and I won't allow myself to be forced to choose the "lesser of two evils." Please don't give me any accusations of being un-American or unpatriotic. That's bullshit. I don't, can't, and won't support either of these two and while a vote for Big Bird would make more sense to me at the moment it would also be an assured wasted of time b/c not enough additional people would have the sense to vote for Big Bird to get him elected.

I have taken these campaigns seriously, and seriously, I can't take them seriously any longer. Don't doubt me.

But I won't allow myself to sit back and feel bad about voting for someone, when they've inevitably made a bonehead manuever somewhere down the road, just because I thought they were less worse that the other schmuck (how many people know what schmuck really is?).

At any rate, you have to remember this - YOU ARE NOT VOTING FOR THE PERSON IN OFFICE! YOU ARE VOTING FOR THEIR POLICIES AND AGENDA! While, yes, the candidates supposed morals and beliefs are a possible representation of who they are and how they may perform, it's no guarantee. Also, THIS SHOULD NOT BE A POPULARITY CONTEST! This whole "get on the band wagon" thing is crap. If you're a lemming and you want to blindly follow your compadres off the cliff go right ahead, I won't be taking that leap. And if you have to self affirmate the reasons your voting, you should probably take a look again and actually scrutinize why you believe in your choice of candidate and their policies. It's a HUGE responsibilty, voting. I just don't believe enough in any of these jokers to put my check in their box. That's why I'm not fuc*ing voting!

Sorry haven't gotten any work done on a new CCS background yet.

So I've had this idea. What if you could integrate a style of writing into our everyday lives that would convey our feelings a little more easily. You know, as you read this, there's no way to express how I'm thinking the words out as I type them. Does that make sense? I mean you, as the reader, can't hear tonal accents in what you read; and descriptive writing really only gets you so far. But what if, while you're reading something, you could actually understand more about an authors intension because you'd be able to interpret their writing exactly as it was created in their head?! Does that make sense? Sorry,...anyway, what I'm suggesting is the fabrication of not so much a new form of writing, but rather an addendum to how we already do it.
It's simple in concept and execution; so anyone should be able to learn and perform it. What you have to do grasp the concept that the words you're thinking will end up on paper, or the screen, the same way you're thinking them. The only problem is, I know of no program or word processor that could accommodate this style of writing. So until the day a software company or programmer jumps on board with the idea (by the way I claim all rights to this idea unless you can prove you came up with it first) I guess we'll just have to rely on the ole stand-by. The fiberous compressed wood pulp and the pointed, graphite filled, rubber ended hollow stick; or whatever surface and marking tool you choose. Hmmm, one more problem, I can't actually show you what I mean either aside from scanning a hand written sample. So for now, until I get that sample, the best way I can describe this method would be this. Think of combining your writing words with writing music. Letters and words would float up and down along the line as you write them conveying the tone of thought. In addition, words and letters could be indiviually, or grouped as seen fit, accented with differences in boldness, color, shape, and even with symbols like notes in music. Things that would shape letters and words in as many ways as you could possibly think to convey every nounce of thought as it's produced from your creative mellon!!!
Wouldn't that be sweet?
I tell you what, if you like this idea, say so. If I get enough of a response I think I might even start to develope this. Anyone want to collaborate?

Less than 3 months till Deaglan!

I recently turned 28. The morning of my birthday I looked at myself in the mirror and asked "Do I really feel any older?"

I peered a little closer and saw one-two-three-four-...FIVE! grey hairs staring right back at me from the front of my scalp. "What in the world?!" I though, "I might have had one or two of these here yesterday but not five." I sighed and began shaving.

Then I started thinking about everything that's been going on in my life. I'm recently married; three years this June. Katie, my wife, is pregnant and 21 weeks along now. We bought this big old house; it really is big and old. We recently had to get a new car. I was honorably discharged from the Navy and am now working a "real" job. And I've been trying to figure out how to go back to school and finish my degree. These are the monuments of my present life. Fill in all the joints, cracks, and crevices with goings on such as house and yard work, trying to get the nursery together, selling the old VW bus and Jeep which I'll never have time to work on, and if at all possible taking a brief, precious, and rare moment to catch my breath and I find a life that is one hundred percent jam-packed.

So do I feel older?

Well, being older means aging and having more responsibilities. I am looking older and I certainly have more responsibilites. So I know I'm older, but I just don't feel..."older." Maybe it's the fact that all of this has come on gradually over several years so it's harder to notice from one day to the next. There are some days, when things come crashing down, when I can't help but feel older; but even those days seem temporary. Possibly I'm desensitized, or maybe just naive, but the feeling of actually being old has not caught up with me. I recently turned 28, so I guess that's the way it should be.

P.S. It's a boy!

So it's here. It's Earthday. What have I done? Well, I didn't ride my bike to work today. I commute 55 miles...EACH WAY! Plus it's raining. I have to be in the right mood to ride in the rain; and that's definitely not going to happen when I'm going to work, it's way too conservative here. Anywho, I did do something good. A little over a month ago I traded in my Jeep for a Honda Fit. Now I get, pretty consistently, 34 miles per gallon and I'm doing it with a low emissions vehicle. So I feel better about that. I can't support hybrids for two reasons.

One - I can't afford one.

Two - yeah they save gas and emissions now, but what about when they're all used up? Are those big banks of batteries recycleable? Plus, did you know that all of the extra transportation and processes that it takes to refine those batteries can turn the "carbon foot-print" (I HATE that term too so I don't just throw it around loosely) of a Prius into that of an H2?! Will all those batteries, once they've expended their life use, end up in land fills?! I, for one, wish they'd been designed with maintainable batteries like boats have. They'd probably last LOTS longer that way. I dunno though, I'm no engineer.

Let's see, what are some other things we've been doing. Well, we've been collecting rain-water for watering our plants instead of using city water. We're composting our waste foods. We're mulching our grass clippings instead of bagging them. We're trying to use less energy by keeping lights off, plus we're almost entirely switched over to flourescent bulbs. Were restraining from running the AC and heat as much as possible. And we're even line drying our laundry when we can.

So I think we're doing pretty good. And its great that by doing all of this we're not spending as much money either! Bonus!

So hey...what are you guys doing?

Happy Earthday everybody!

P.S. I'm going to be a daddy! Katie's 17 weeks pregnant!

The catch is you have to offer people the same through one of your journal entries! or if you've already done this just link me in your response. So it's like a tagging...buuut...not. Hmmm, more like a tag if you want to be tagged kinda deal.

So the offer is up! Who wants a drawing?!

By the way, I am by no means good at drawing. But I'll do my darndest to make you think I am! XD

P.S. I'm going to be a daddy! Katie's 10 weeks pregnant!

So I haven't gotten a new video game in a while and well we played this one at our frineds house and immediately decided we had to get it. They live over an hour away from us and we're not about to drive there every day to play it. Anyway, if you've ever wondered what it's like, TRY IT, unless you don't like music, and if that's the case I feel whole-heartedly sorry for you. So you get to be a big dork and have fun doing it.
I've noticed that hardly anyone wants to look at a camera anymore. I'm not sure whether they are just shy or if they think that purposely looking off at extreme angles is artistic and/or sexy. While in some senarios this is the case I must say that as of late it has become widely overused. I have always found that a look in the eye, no matter what emotion one is trying to convey, is far more beautiful and affective.

Well here we are again boys and girls. Time for another fun-filled session with your ol' pal Chris. I haven't uploaded anything for a while now. I'm going to try to remedy that this weekend. I haven't been able to find my portable hard drive in quite some time...it's lost in the office...that we don't use...because it's so crammed with junk... yeeaahh.

OK, moving on. I finally got a good SLR to use. A Canon AE1P will now be my staple for shooting. Of course I'll still have my digital point and shoot and my Yashica rangefinder, but there's something about the hands-on, manual control of an old film SLR that makes me feel more like an artist than a tourist. So, in time, I'll be able start posting some pics with my new shooter. I haven't done my own darkroom work in quite some time so I hope you'll keep that in mind when I do get to posting these new pictures. Until then I'll try to find my portable HD and get some more pics up here ASAP.

Have fun.

Well this is my first journal entry on DA....sooo....just writtin' my first entry.....yep....well I guess that's it, ya'll come back now ya'hear?

No just kidding. Well I'm nearing 200 page views...wohoo...that's nothing compared to most! but I hope to keep it climbing.

It's kind of wierd, my piece with the most favorites is my own least favorite of all the one's I've posted. And like I said in the description, if I get any kind of response I'll morph it with the other three photos and make the panorama from them that I've been meaning to, so look for it in the not too distant future. Also I'll have more photos, mostly of my deployment, posted as soon as I can.

I'm really enjoying the DA community and the amount and diversity of material everyone has to offer; from the innocent and cute to the shocking and bizarrely offensive, I dig it all as long as it's done in the name of art, retrospect, respect, and prospect. I've met some neat people who's works have influenced me and my own projects and I hope I can do the same for someone or someones sometime. I'd never claim to be a professional at this, but I'd like to think I have a knack for it.

I welcome constructive criticism and would be more than happy to give it if it were desired. So hit me up, and I'll hit you back...if you're into that sort of thing.

In conclusion, thanks to everyone: my wife who supports my good and bad, my parents for exposing me to the arts all of my life and for not raising a fool, my adoring fans for their praise and encouragement (Ed: Fans? Yeah right.), and my dogs for all of their unconditional love, affection, and face baths.

AMDT: I know "someones" is not proper English, relax, it's not the end of the world; neither are any of my other grammatical errors.
