I ended up having a pretty good birthday. Went over to my mothers after work, then hung out with the roomies a bit before my friend Steff came over, then the two of us went out to walk the strip a bit before dinner, where I got pretty effed up. Then back home for a movie. So yeah, the best birthday in years, actually.

That's right, it's my birthday. I'm officially 30. Can you sense the joy?

A friend of mine, Kara, was going to come out here next week but I had to cancel due to my newfound insanities I've developed over the past year or two. Suffice it to say, when I realize I like someone, it ends up being a reason to mourne and say goodbye. Can't handle being just friends anymore, I've noticed. So yeah, if anyone's ever wondered why I tend to ignore any of those impulses, that's why. I need a good way to not care about anything again. I was happier back in the day when people asked if I was a stoner because I was so whatever about everything.

Buy early and buy often.

So I'm thinking of doing a drawing for the big DA contest for the game The Witcher. Like, old school fantasy or Savage Sword of Conan interior art style and all that coolness... But I can't find a decent pose for the girl in the pic! Laying down, half nude of course (cause if you've seen the ref art they submitted, that's like half the pictures) haha, on one elbow with the top leg across the body so it gives a twist to the hips. Here's a sketch to help with two different leg poses.


I'm not sure what to do with the othe arm, either. Like, should it be up like she's scared or also down on the ground, pushing her up higher like she's almost dragging herself.
If anyone could help, I'd really appreciate it.

Second is @FixMeKnow! A touch of pinup glamour chic, sensuality and fetish to make some beautiful photography. Plus every time I see her name I think of the song of the same name from Garbage. It's a good song, so I don't mind.


Third up is `Obsidian-Fox. He's a very supportive friend and has ended up being my go to guy for most of my photography questions at this point.


Fourth is ^Hanratty-Stock. She's the stock diva made of win who's emoticons are filled with sugary energy and always has a creative way of describing whatever is around her. I swear I almost need a wiki to follow her sometimes.

Yep, picked up the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 lens suggested by `Obsidian-Fox and it's damn good by the bit of playing with that I could do before my camera battery died. And holy hell, it's a heavy lens. I wasn't expecting that when I pulled it out of the box. haha I like it so far, but I've had a couple instances where it couldn't focus with the autofocus right now, or it focuses on something else entirely if I have it on the multipoint focus vs the single point focus. You can hear the lens motor go vroom when you focus, too. It's not too loud and it's also pretty close up to my ears, too, so it oculd be an exageration.

Well, aside from those mostly minor gripes, I really like it so far. Plus it comes with a bag, lens hood and the lens cap is cooler than the canon one. haha Plus it's a macro lens. Had no trouble with the autofocus with that, it whirred right into place. I had my comp speaker right up to the lens hood butting on it as I took the shot and it still wasn't at close as it could have been. I can practically put a penny on the lens itself and take a shot of that.

Anyway, it's a cool lens. I quite enjoy it. And love the constant f2.8 so a lot more light can get into the lens without having to have brighter lights or have them closer to what I'm shooting. My models can be more comfortable now. Less chance of uneven tans.

Oh, is that mood selecter thing for journals acting funky for anyone else? I can't see most of the choices.

Yes, I have taken a pic of the new framed print that was colored and bought for me by the wonderful $chix0r.


Most of the living room is colored in a blue and purple shade, so this fits in with the style perfectly.

I apparently do a pretty decent immitation of Barry White talking, that overly deep mellow nothing but bass chat that he does. Though it helps if the music is playing to set the tone even more. Someone brought in his CD and I started doing it and two of the girls I work with got all ooh and ahh over it. They're in a buying war with that own your friends app on myspace with me now. haha

Not much else to report. I've had the house to myself for the past few days since the roomies are on vacations and I will for the next week or so, too. Yay. They're cool people, but it's fun to have the place to yourself every once in a while.

Just got the print of the picture at the bottom of this journal and it's friggin amazing! Thank you so much, $chix0r!!! It's not only a HUGE 20x30 print, but she also got it framed with the really cool art museum styled frame that DA just got in. When I get it mounted on the wall I'll put a pic up, plus you can see how perfect it matches our decor in the living room. I feel like I should put a small description of the piece in brass next to it.

The Star Trek Experience closed down tonight with decomissioning ceremonies at the main entrance. At the last second my roommate decided to ask a member of management if I could at least come to that. Since it was technically on Hilton property I could go. I took TONS of pictures of the pre-mayhem and when the real festivities were about to begin, a friend with her expired trek badge pushed us forward to the front of the crowd so I could get better shots.

So there I was, front row taking tons of pictures. haha It was a terrific ceremony that was well written by Jerad, the other roommate. Very official and with a lot of heart. Others helped yes, but it was more him. Anyway, if you know anything about DS9, the theme of the ceremony revolved around a baseball.

Afterwards, I stayed back and chatted with a bunch of old work friends for a while and met ~trekker670, too. There was a party inside but I was more than not invited to that. (long story) Once the crowd died down, I talked with one of the old Leads there about the chance of getting in. I already knew the answer would be a hard NO but honestly, what's the pain of asking at that point? So I asked and he said if I could find a person willing to put me on as their guest, I could get in. I got someone to find Charles and he got me in.

So lots of smiles, pictures, hugs and cake. Now I'm home, exhausted and ready for bed. Hey, I went to work before all this, too. haha

So I was walking through New York New York a while ago and there was a coloring/design like this on the walls. A friend was holding my camera at the time so I made her take a couple pics of it so I could use it as a wallpaper. Does anyone know how to do the circles thing, the gradating larger to smaller rows of circles. I wanted to make some to cover up the text since I had to flip the image, but I don't know how.

Just saw the movie In Bruges. It was pretty darn good. Verges on almost being too artsy but has enough clever dialog and stuffs going on to make it not one of "those" movies... if that makes sense. It's not too pretentious. And has a midget!

So the final frontier closes in less than a week. I'm right now not only banned, but there's been a new email distributed reiterating that point, as well as me not being allowed to go to the closing ceremonies. Yes, I'm apparently THAT dangerous. JIHAD!

In less "emo" news, I saw Tropic Thunder and it was hilarious. For people that like quoting movie lines, there are a bunch in this one. I'm hungry.

How did I not hear about a Max Payne movie? I know I don't do commercials or a lot of trailers, but c'mon! Just saw a trailer and it looks pretty badass. Like the game a bit, though with a more flashy noir feel. Comes out sometime in 08, but the trailer I saw didn't have a real date yet.

My inner gamer geek is drooling. haha

So yeah, I just drew this really badass looking chinese dragon wrapped around a sign. If I can get permission, I'll try and post it here. I'm really damn proud of myself with how this turned out and hope the others I'm drawing can turn out as well.

So technically I think I had my first paid photoshoot. O.o The shoot with the bosses wife got me a $30 gift card to a restaurant around here. And he said he liked a bunch of the pics too, so that's pretty cool. Customer satisfaction and belly satisfaction. Score. Did a photoshoot for a boss at work yesterday. Took some pics of his wife. It was her anniversary present to him. Went to a park on the ritzy side of town. It was nice. Dusted off my camera and I think I got some nice pics. Doubt I'll post any here, but yeah...

It's raining harder. And thunder! I guess I should end and submit this damn thing. The power goes off occasionally and I'd rather not lose all this. haha I don't have the energy to retype it.

Now I have a question about lens filters. So when I'm shooting someone with the sun behind her, I have to adjust the settings so that she's well lit but the sky ends up being white. Is there a filter that knocks down some of that so I can get a nice blue? Or even a lil bit of blue? haha

So anybody know anything about lenses? I'm looking for a good all purpose lens to replace the kit lens. With antishake if possible. Handholding in low light a lot, I've noticed. I've seen a few but none sound too great when I read the reviews, though they're all basing their opinions off the L lenses to sound snootier. Don't want an L lens now, it seems like a waste on an XTI.

So yeah, which lens would you suggest?

Wow, that's when I joined DA. My 7th digi-birthday passed and I didn't even realize it. So who's going to buy me a belated birthday sub or 7? haha

OK, maybe not as dramatic as all that, but I'm tired. You get to thinking things like that when you make a web page or design a business card for yourself, or whatever else needs your name on it. What font looks best... Which looks most like "me?"

I was out with a friend at a bar the other day and he gave me a good example of why I should have business cards handy as the waitress lady was gorgeous and he thought she was flirting with me. I still don't think she really was, but that's beside the point. It would have been super keen to be able to go "here ya go" and give her a card. At the very least it would have been a heck of a conversation piece.

So because of that, I'm designing one now. Checked out a few places to help make it look as good as possible. I think I know what I'm going with, but I'd love any links or tips you could give me. So far I'm thinking a double sided card. The first side will have a picture with just my name and "photographer" on it, all glossied out of course, and the back will have all my contact info and maybe a pic off to one side, printed matte for a writing surface, just in case. I like his design. [link] Simple, straight forward and darn cool looking. So, any help?

In a recent journal of a friend of mines, *raspil, she brought up that she was joking about starting a restaurant called Come, and all the dirtiness that could come with that. So me being me, I had to think of other ways to go off on it. With her encouragement, it kept on going and going and going... It had major stamina! Here they are, because I think it deserves its own time.

You so need a fountain at the entrance to Come. Noncontinuous stream, of course.

Yes, my old job, Star Trek: The Experience is closing on september 1, 2008. They've cut back staff enough to the point they're below barebones operations, barely squeaking by. For the past few months or more, Cedar Fair (who owns trek) and the Hilton (where trek is located) have been in negotiations about renewing the contract which was to expire at the end of the year. Apparently it didn't go too favorably. It had a good decent run. They were two very good shows/rides there. If you can, get down there before september and check it out.

I was at work today replacing the cans for the kiosks on the floor when the security guy that was with us said to turn around. There was this huge woman, like my size, with a black very very miniskirt pulled so high you could see half her ass sticking out of it. It was like when you try to make a lowercase t with your nondominant hand, that's how wobbly and shapeless it was. It was scary. And I'm not sure if she was wearing a thong, going commando or her ass just got hungry for cloth but nothing was covering it. Speaking of, do they make thongs for horses? That's what her size would have been. Just... Not right. Size appropriate clothing, people! She wasn't a bad looking lady for the most part but for Allah put on a pair of pants!

Yes. Geeking out. Hard core... Went to Fry's last night with a friend for the first time. If you've never heard of a Fry's, think of a store larger than a Super Walmart devoted to computers and making computer life easier... Or harder, if you're intot hat sort of thing. They have everything, from rows of pen tablets to every graphics card you'd ever want to individual tiny baby parts and blank boards if you wanted to make your own super computer. Plus it's so big they have their own small restaurant in the middle. I'm so going there for all my geeky needs too since they are cheaper than anywhere else.

Anyway, we wandered around for a while as I looked at what I wanted to buy. Originally I wanted to get a blue-ray burner, which a good one isn't a bad price, just $279 for a darn good one, but the media is still insandely priced at $25 a disc! Instead, I picked up 2GB more memory and a new video card, the e-gforce 8800GS, if anyone reading this has a clue. I think on the box somewhere it has "badass" written on it. 2 DV-I ports, 384MB DDR3 memory and needs two power supply plugs to run! That's a first for me.

So the friend and I found someone he knows that works there and he kept bugging us to sign up for the Fry's card so they can make quota. Both he and I didn't want to, but he did it anyway and I finally caved when they agreed to give me the employee discount for everything I bought. haha The badass video card went from $180 down to $130 and on the whole I ended up saving almost $100 there. Just because, I gave the guy $5 for doing it. It's something at least.

THIS is a big reason why I think most estimations about the future based on trends is bullshit. We don't know the future, we can't predict what is inherently unpredictable. There are few general exceptions, like seeing a river and saying it will most likely still be flowing like that in 20 years, but even that very well could be wrong.

There was a whole global COOLING scare back in the 70's because the temperature had dropped at a steady pace over the past 30 years. Studies on that trend inferred that we could be heading into another ice age. See how well that one turned out? haha

THE INTERNET IS DYING! Or so AT&T says. [link] Blame broadband and people watching streaming video online. "AT&T says video alone will eat up 80 percent of traffic in two years vs. just 30 percent now." Based on nothing but speculation and a worst case scenerio since even though web videos were growing in popularity, they were not as widely used as they are now. Everything has a video embedded on it now and everyone including my mother watches streaming videos online and we're at 30%, especially with all the HD streaming programming we have now? As the article pointed out, it's a wonder youtube doesn't crash over the strain. This trend report is also used to push for a new way to charge users for different types of internet usage, so a person that checks messages online pays less than someone who watches their favorite shows on the networks websites. Soon your internet plan will be more confusing than your cell phone plan, all because of a study saying the internet could crash because of inferred trends and non-neutral marketting based hypothesis bullshit.

Every day we hear more studies like these, both biased and not very informed though they seem well written and based in real fact. I have my own trend study. It states that if we keep getting as many as these fear mongering studies designed to solely scare us and make us think a certain way, whether true or not, by 2015 we will all go insane and start eating human flesh. The trends are out there! Look at the huge increase in zombie movies and cannibals in the united states. It will jump from the screen into everyday life if we're not careful.

Anyway, I just showed Fight Club to a friend and she loved it. I knew she would, too. It's right up her alley, and probably moreso then she originally thought. She came into it knowing nothing about the movie other than the title and I was making her watch. haha I'm sure she thought it was going to be some dumbass martial arts movie or other such mindless gratuitous drivel. It was fun to see her perk up and bounce around like a little kid when it started to get good.

Though in doing this, I broke the first rule... No, you can not have my testicles! Put the rubber band DOWN!
