"Nancy Does Dallas". Yeah, the title is a little suggestive, but, no, it's not "KOTH goes porn". Just had to send out a reminder about tommorow's new episode of King of The Hill! It's a fun show featuring Dale Gribble's lovely wife's misadventures on her way to the top of the news anchor mountain. I directed it, so it's gonna be a good one, but I gotta give major props to some fellow Deviants who helped make it a stand out episode:
 sweet BG design color work.
 storyboarding action in full effect.
master of props and stuff.
 our all powerful overseer

Go visit their pages and be amazed, then watch the tube Sunday night (8:30 pm, but check out your local listings to be sure) and get a good laugh.

Yeah, haven't been posting work the past couple months, as I've been back at the big studio directing full time again, so it's been pretty busy. But I still got some things in the works, so hopefully I can start posting again.

Anyways, new episodes of KOTH in full effect starting this Sunday night. We got a lot of fun hijinks featuring Hank and the gang, so you can expect lots of laughs this season. Enjoy!

Just got home from spending the day at Anime Expo, and it was well worth the trip to Downtown LA. Bought some goodies, went to a few panels, and got lots of excercise walking all day.

Deviant Art had a booth there, but it was basically a bunch of computers people could use to draw on Wacom tablets. I wasn't familiar with any of the "guest" artists that occasionally would show up to the exhibit so I really didn't spend any time there.

I guess one of my day's highlights was going to a Q/A panel featuring Takada Akemi. She's a character designer famous for her work on Urusei Yatsura and Patlabor, among others. Now, I'm not really a big fan of "anime", but I have absolutely loved Lum for years. So it was really cool to hear her talk about her career, and later meeting her and getting her to sign something for me (I'm not really that big a fanboy to wait in line for an autograph. My infamous run-in with Mike Mignola at Comic Con 2001 is to blame. But I had to make an exception this time).

Anyways, can't wait till Comic Con in 3 weeks! Hopefully I'll run into some of you there!

Yeah, it's been a while since I posted new art. Since the writers strike ended, it's been hella busy at work (if you dig "Dale" episodes, watch this Sunday, April 13, at 8:30 for an all new King of The Hill, featuring Mr. Gribble in a starring role!). I do got some stuff coming up, but until then I figured this might be an interesting thing to talk about.

Anyways, now that the kids are a little older I've dusted off my old board games and we've started "game night". Thought a good subject to update my journal with, would be a review of one of our favorites: Yipes!

It's one of those cool "pop-o-matic" games from 1983 (Trouble, I think, is the most well known of these. You know, a die inside a plastic dome that you &#039op' to roll). The game board is a creepy looking dungeon you lead your pawn, represented by a scared little kid, through. Your goal is to get to the mad scientist lab in the center of the board, then try to turn into a monster. Once your kid enters the lab, you then try to guess what number the die rolls on your next turn(s). Everyone has a chance to enter the lab and become a monster, but as soon as a player guesses their roll correctly, that person's kid is replaced by a Frankenstein' monster looking pawn, and the game turns into a race to escape! All other players reverse direction and try to return to start, as the monster tries to chase them down and "eat" them. Games are incredibly fast paced, which adds to the excitement. Super Fun!

My kids love it, but usually throw a tantrum when the monster gobbles them up. Anyways, here's a [link] to some pictures if you wanna check it out.

It's a holiday, I guess, so I'll just ramble on about some things about me:

-As a wee lad when Star Wars came out, I thought Chewbacca was a captured Big Foot that was trained to act.

-My favorite video games from the Golden Age of arcades: Zookeeper, Donkey Kong, Food Fight, Galaga, and Elevator Action!

-When I was in Boy Scouts, I experimented smoking pine needles and moss. It's pretty terrible stuff, so don't start.

-I think I was one, of maybe 36 people in America, who watched the "Amazing Live Sea Monkeys" tv show. Funny stuff!

-Back in college, I once ate balut, and it was pretty good (if you don't know what it is, you'll have to look it up, cause my description won't do it justice).

Oh yeah, the excitement of Leap Day!

As a member of the ASIFA-Hollywood, I've had the privilege of voting for this years Annie Awards. With balloting for the 35th Annual Annie Awards closing on February 2, I thought this would be a good time to make mention of a well deserving nominee that deserves wider attention. Up against the likes of "Surfs Up", "The Simpson's Movie","Ratatouille ", and "Bee Movie" for the best animated feature category, is a French film called "Persepolis". Maybe you heard of it. Before I got to screen it, I hadn't heard of it myself. And after the opening credits, I wasn't sure I'd like it. "Weird art film", I thought. But it didn't take long for me to get pulled into this amazing movie about an Iranian girl growing up during the Islamic Revolution. A very moving piece of movie making that was smart, enlightening, and at times, more funny than anything "Bee Movie" had to offer. Visually, it is incredibly charming; it almost has a children's book look to it. The animation, while not flashy and eye-popping, is very well done. Overall, "Persepolis" is a most enjoyable movie.

Check it out, or visit [link] to see the trailer and find out more about it.

Hello everyone! Just a reminder, this Sunday Fox starts airing new episodes of King of The Hill! January 6th, at 8:30, the goodness of season 12 gets started with a fun episode about Hank's dog Ladybird, in a show I directed (so I know you'll dig it!). Set your DVR or TiVo, just in case, but either way, you'll have a good laugh. Besides, with the writers on strike, it's nice to see something that is not a rerun.

Plus, while I'm here promoting the show, I might as well send a shot out to a few fellow Deviants who worked on the episode with me:
handled designs as our top Production Coordinator on the episode,
our Retakes Director, finalized several scenes in post production.
and even though was working on show 2 at the time, I think we may have reused some of his prop and vehicle designs, so I gotta give him his due.

Anyways, my friends, enjoy, and if you get a chance to see it, let me know what you think!

By the way, if you haven't caught this cool Jonny Quest short that Boomerang sometimes runs between their shows, check this out - [link]
