I honestly cannot remember when was the last time I visited this site, but a rough guess would be at the end of last year. My only valid reason is that I have not picked up a new DSLR, and that seems to have diluted my interest in deviantArt.

What's more is that ~hongkongda, the usergroup that my dear friend ~nashua and I once looked after, is still stone dead, leaving many of the good memories untold. At one point, under Nash's nurture the club even got featured on the respectable South China Morning Post! (I was in the UK when the interview took place)

The last admin of ~hongkongda seems to have abandoned deviantArt altogether, so I don't know what the chances are for me to get the club back from the grave and rebuild it. Nevertheless, I am determined to re-establish a new group for Hong Kong deviants, a portal to let us fellow HongKongers get closer together and promote the colourful culture of the best city in the world.

I don't know when this will happen (most likely to be when I get my new gear), but seeing the many great changes on deviantArt I am very determined to revive a Hong Kong group here. Stay tuned.

Just reading the news about the earthquake in China makes me teary - so many victims yet so little time left for those under the debris. As I type this, the official statistics show that there are already near 15000 deaths.

Prime Minister Wen Jiabao (國務院總理溫家寶) - who is now in Sichuan directing rescue work - promised that the government will deliver as many Liberation Army soldiers as required, and hopefully with the generous donations from Hong Kong and around the world, the surviving victims will hang in there until the situation is stable. Severe weather conditions have also blocked supply routes, so hopefully that will change soon.

What upsets me more - and I'm sure it's the same with other people - is how China's response contrasts Burma's to their typhoon disaster. Seriously, whoever is in charge there must have a fucked up mind - the dictators have put power before humanity. It's too hard to imagine how they run the country.

I wish the victims to be rescued very soon and looked after well.

Update: the death toll has gone up to 'nearly 20,000': [link]

I'm back in Hong Kong, and picked up my driving licence yesterday (that's HK$900 gone!).

This time I haven't seen much changes in Hong Kong. Nash and Katie still look the same. Keith was totally different to what I was expecting (and no offence), but I guess he was tired from his flight from the US.

I mentioned in one of blogs that I will be travelling around China with my English friend Alex. Well, the plan is going to change slightly, as my father is not happy about us travelling around Mother China just by ourselves. He thinks he has seen and heard too much shit.

Here's one: two of his workers - they are brothers - were on their way back from their remote home to his factory. On the bus in Zone 2 of Shenzhen (the more industrial area compared to Zone 1), the older brother was asleep, and the younger one suddenly saw a thief cutting open his brother's bag, so he yelled. Then it turns out that the thief is not alone - his partner, without hesitation, stabbed the younger brother and told him to mind his own business. The older brother then woke up and saw what happened, and thrusted himself onto his brother and took the second, and fatal, stab. The two thieves then took the stuff away and got off the bus. Yes, no one cared, not even the bus driver wh should have kept them on the bus.

Then a few days ago, it was reported on the news that a pedestrian who got run over by a car was left on the road, and all the passerbys just drove slowly around the victim and left. No one wanted to stop and help him.

Everyone was, and still is, afraid of going through legal procedures.

Here's another one: my father was taking a group of Chinese CEO's and bosses to an inspection trip to Beijing, with the intention to witness the economic boost in the capital of China. After visiting a historical site (one of the Thirteen Ming Tombs), their local tour guide ont he coach told them that there are some fruit stalls nearby, and if they want to buy some fruit, they should only pay the exact amount of what each piece was labelled, no bargaining, and do not get change from them. One guy, however, must have been asleep or did not listen, went off to buy the whole coach some fruit. He bargained for a price, picked his own pieces and got change from the seller. The transaction was all done and seemed perfect until suddenly three big blokes came out of nowhere, and told him that it was not right: it was apparently a different price if he wanted to pick his own pieces.

And there they were, stuck there for four hours. Again, no one wanted to get the Police. In the end, they ended up having to pay the guys Y900 (which is nothing for those bosses), but everyone was pissed off big time. The idiot even asked the tour guide why he didn't explain more clearly, and, quite rightly, the tour guide said he had told them eveything, and then had a go at each and everyone of them.

Then someone poitned out that the fruit stall was actually appointed by the local tourist board, and that they should get it closed down. The tour guide then explained that if he had done so, he was afraid that he might get sacked.

The irony is that these guys were meant to see the result of China's economic growth.

So, no more exciting epic journey for Alex and I; we have to travel with a packaged holiday instead, which in a way is no worse as all the travelling is covered (and we will be flying rather than taking that stupid 26-hour train with a hard bed), with five-star hotel accomodation including buffet breakfast.

Yesterday I spent all evening working out a comparison table between going with a packaged holiday and going by ourselves. It turns out that with the packaged holiday, we get to travel to a few more sites and they are only available to coaches or Hong Kong tourists. One of the deals also includes a free night at the spa - I went there in December and really enjoyed it, although I am not sure if it is a good idea for the summer. The restaurant meals included are also fantastic - it would not make sense for just the two of us to have these expensive roast duck, ancient royal or dumpling meals.

It's still going to be fun, but I felt bad for Alex. I made a phone call to him last night, and I'm glad that he is still happy about it.

Anyway, that's it for now. Take care!

My tripod was shit too, but I don't want to spend too much money on equipment just yet; I need to master my basic photographic skills first.

Well actually, I might even consider a SLR, as *nashua thinks that one can learn a lot more about photography from SLRs, and they are also cheaper, but then there is the cost of film...
Take care guys - will come back with some pics soon (I have tonnes of rugby photos!!).
And Nash, how can a girl like you get ill? You're like everyone's medicine (but non-edible, unfortunately). Will get in touch with you sometime (wt's your phone number??).

Well, I was going to post some new photos, after my little strike.

But Angelo's latest journal has detered me: [link]

Notice how he starts off with the title "A Celebration". So he thinks he's won the battle? Quite cheeky, I think.

As for "what happened" he states: "It was a difficult situation. The company felt it needed to do what it did to break the impasse." So what is it that we deviantArt members cannot know?

What's more: "If it helps you to know, Scott is still one of our main share holders. We are hopeful that Scott continues as an active productive contributor to the deviantART community and that the Company someday becomes a financial success." Oh, so it's still all about money... The words "financial success" makes me sick. That doesn't simply mean "to make deviantArt a better place", but most likely "an increase in salary". Not that I'm jealous, but it's the approach which I - and many others - disagree with.

I'll leave this with you lot. Will probably turn up with some photos anyway, but please have a look at both °jark's and $spyed's latest statements (you might find more disgusting points than I did in $spyed's journal) and have a think about this issue:

°jark's statement: [link]
$spyed's [link]

EDIT
°jark needs YOUR HELP! Please read his new journal: [link]
Every little helps! Even I have sent him some money. So please, support our co-founder to keep deviantArt a community, not corporation!

On the other hand, I won't be renewing my subscription until °jark wins this battle (and I'm sure he will if he gets all the support!!!). Let's starve $spyed to death!
