INSPIRED EXHIBITION: Local artist ÂÂÂÂ ÂÂÂÂÂ, or RifRaf, is raising money to get to Israel in his next two exhibitions.

WARKWORTH ARTIST ÂÂÂÂ ÂÂÂÂÂ has a goal behind his next two exhibitions.
He is trying to raise enough money to get to Israel to be with his girlfriend of 10 years.
Working under the name RifRaf, Mr ÂÂÂÂÂ has an exhibition in Tauranga
from June 1 to July 27, and with various artists at the Bruce Mason Centre in Takapuna from August 1 to 28.

Mr ÂÂÂÂÂ, whose ancestors were Puhoi settlers, describes his work as figurative, not quite realistic but not completely abstract either.
He says, he follows a strong theme that is a reaction to the distorted contemporary female image shown by the media.
He says his work celebrates the beauty and strength that is women and proof that she doesn't have to be a perfect size six to feel and be strong, self-confident, and desirable.

He notes his grandmother as his inspiration, who, he says was a keen artist on canvas and china.
Raising money to get to Israel has been a goal for a while, but he says he hopes to get there after these two exhibitions.
"The sooner I can get there the better," he says. "I'll probably move there permanently. It's a huge step and a long way from here."

He Was Square Inside And Brown
A poem written by a high school senior in Alton, Illinois, two weeks before he committed suicide:

He drew... the things inside that needed saying. Beautiful pictures he kept under his pillow.

When he started school he brought them...
To have along like a friend.

It was funny about school, he sat at a square brown desk Like all the other square brown desks...
and his room Was a square brown room like all the other rooms,
tight And close and stiff.

He hated to hold the pencil and chalk, his arms stiff
His feet flat on the floor, stiff, the teacher watching
And watching.

She told him to wear a tie like
All the other boys, he said he didn't like them.

She said it didn't matter what he liked.

After that the class drew.

He drew all yellow. It was the way he felt about Morning. The Teacher came and smiled, "What's this?
Why don't you draw something like Ken's drawing?"

After that his mother bought him a tie, and he always Drew airplanes and rocketships like everyone else.

He was square inside and brown and his hands were stiff. The things inside that needed saying didn't need it
Anymore, they had stopped pushing... crushed, stiff

Like everything else.

F**k I hate this town
Someone fired a paint-ball gun at my flat today

I can live with the 8 yellow splashes on the outside of the building, its raining so they'll probably wash off on ther own

but the one that came through the window and hit my computer and splattered all over my stack of finished paintings .......

Been a bit strange lately (ok a bit more strange than usual)
as you can see i have several "work in progress" pieces posted
that dont seem to make any progress
they are all still sitting here watching me

but cause of the crap from work I just cant finish them
I want them all to be the perfect piece
the one that someone (the right person) looks at and says "thats fantastic, you are so good I'll make sure you never have to work at that crazy scary job again"
Yes i know its an impossible dream
but I still dream it

There was an article in one of the national sunday papers here today (5 nov) asking if the anorexic woman-hood shown by Victoria Beckham, Kate Bosworth, Nicole Richie et al is becoming the ideal desired by men

They interview several wealthy men who 'prefer' women that skinny

Of course this just feeds the BS, "oh if i was just a bit skinnier I could have a man like *insert name of rich guy*"

Well I'm not wealthy but I'm a man (checks again ... yeap, very male)
and i just want to stand up and shout

"I do *not* like women that skinny!!.
I am *not* attracted to women that skinny!!
victoria, kate, nicole etc are *not* attractive they are freaky scary looking"
