I had volunteered to work at Winter Camp earlier in the year, and kind of forgot about it. But as December arrived, camp was fast approaching.

I was the only female youth on staff.

In a boy scout camp.

With 941 boys.

Needless to say, by the second or third day, I received celebrity status.

My days were spent working with a few other guys, selling, hauling, doing other menial tasks. In the morning, I was an assistant for flag ceremonies. In the evenings, I helped conduct flag retirement ceremony. Late at night, I emceed skit night, theme night, even closing ceremonies.

The people I met and strengthened my friendships with really made the trip for me.
A certain coworker stood up for me several times, and even helped out when I was in a time of emotional crisis.
A Venturer friend of mine offered crash space, which I gladly accepted. That was amusing, to say the least.
Mama Bee, my manager of sorts, was a really good mother figure to have during my time away from home.
My Program Managers were awesome. Even if they couldn't stand me at times.

Too many memorable experiences to list. However, Friday ranked up there.
I worked through the morning. About noonish, I walked down to the shotgun range and shot a few rounds. It was a total blast. No pun intended.

Late in the afternoon, my friend Patrick and I walked to the Indian Lore area to help the teachers take down their stuff. We showed up just in time for smudging, a native American blessing by smoke. It's normally intended to drive out bad influence, and to cleanse. It was well timed. I was having an emotional meltdown. Afterwards, I felt...calm. Either way, we helped them take things down and pack up their regalia. I got to hold a forbidden ghost dance staff...and get this...a hollow skin timberwolf hide. no joke. this thing was the size of a small horse and fluffy and PURE WHITE. That hour and a half I spent with those three men was something I will not forget in quite some time.

That night, with closing ceremonies...The music. The dancing. The singing. Just...being there. It was almost magical.

All in all...I wouldn't trade those five days for the world. I could have...sat home and done nothing. Like a slug. But just through what I did...I regret nothing. But I miss it. I really want to go back.

She's beautiful.
She was really floppy, so she had to be restrung, so i did so. While I was at it, I sealed her with sealant and hot-glue sueded her. (also sanded down her chest a bit. Didn't want her to be "nipping" in every shirt she wore.)
I never thought I'd get so attached, but I love this girl.

I can not seem to order anything and have it happenlike it's supposed to.

Today's subject? ONLINE SHOPPING.

Back up to May.

Now everyone (or at least, now you know) knows that for my birthday, many of my close friends chipped in money to buy my first Asian Ball-Jointed Doll.

Now good old ~KidaDaluie was in charge of this whole ordeal. She organized it, sorted out everything...and when the money was in, she set up PayPal to make the transaction. Pretty easy. Right?
Wrong.
Paypal screws up, and the ordering of my doll was vastly delayed. I was supposed to recieve him as a 'surprise gift' at my birthday party, a weekend or two before my birthday...
He was in transit, caught behind the STUPID Chinese earthquake. He didn't arrive till the day OF my birthday.
Did I get him then? Of course not.
Because no one was home to sign for the bloomin' box. So I got him a day later. (kida, stick with me, it's being used to build emphasis.)

September. I order my boyfriend's birthday gift...and it DISAPPEARS!
It's been a month. It's gone forever.

TODAY.
A week ago, I ordered a Bobobie Sprite Ariel from JunkySpot. She's so cute, so precious. I've been awaiting her arrival all week. The UPS man hadn't shown up by the time my mom left to take me to Japanese. My BOYFRIEND went to my house to check for it. Not there. But...I come home from Japanese.
THERE'S A FREAKING "WE MISSED YOU" SLIP ON MY DOOR.
MY mother had not left the house but for thirty minutes. THIRTY STINKING MINUTES. And the UPS package pickup center closes at six. I found this nugget of info out at...5:55.

Angry Riku is angry.

I can never seem to get things right. This sucks.

I was looking forward to it all day...and I can't open the box tomorrow. Stupid culinary arts program.

I remain without power, even though he houses behind me and the houses across the street had power restored 8 hours after the initial outage. I am stayng at various houses of friends with power. eg. my boyfriend, my mom's friend, etc.

I dunno. This whole experience is not pleasant. I'm worried about my friends around Houston, like *Kyandi and :devkuroarashi:, among others. I just want power back, so I can sleep in MY bed in the air conditioning. I want school to resume so I can have something to occupy my mind. It's like a waking nightmare, seriously.

I just want it to get better.

He got to go on stage with the band and he rocked out with the band! The kid's tiny! and it's weird that he's my little BROTHER'S age. O.o

Then Disturbed played. Nick moshed (boys. whatcha gonna do?) and I protected Shannon. People were crowdsurfing and they always seemed to get thrown on her. But regardless. Sang myself hoarse. I jumped around to the point of exhaustion.

When they went off stage, we took a break and got a drink of water. Shannon and I were tired, but Nick wanted to stay for Slipknot. It's his absolute FAVOURITE band, so we stayed. Shannon and I hung back on the grass, and Nick returned to us a sweaty, worn-out mess. But you could tell by the look in his eyes. It was well worth it. He could only talk in a whisper. xDDD

Was it amazing? HECK YES! Definitely one of this month's highlights.

As most of you know, I'm not very big on the American music scene (there's waaay too much drama and money there), but my boyfriend insisted that I go with him. He had never taken a date to a concert, and Shinedown wasn't a bad band live.

I finally bought my own Tripp pants (take that, ), so I didn't overheat in tight jeans...

...and I only came home smelling like beer and pot a LITTLE bit...not that i would drink or smoke, but I was surrounded by it.

So all in all, it was a good evening.

AND SHINEDOWN'S COMING TO BUZZFEST NEXT YEAR. OH HECK YES.

I, along with two other boys, acted as a Chaser.

Hufflepuff caught the Snitch two out of three times, resulting in a win, 65 to 145.

My mom, the team, and my boyfriend were so proud. As proud as you can be of a win in geek sports. xDD

It was loads of fun, and I encourage you guys to come out and see us play! It's a load of fun. I'll keep you posted on match dates.

I know that everyone always says it, and it has become cliche, but I have to say it, so please don't shoot me.

One of the best nights of my life.

Three months with Kitty. And the ultimate celebration for said milestone. We had so much fun. We went to a REALLY good Italian place (holy crap, I have to take you guys there sometime), and the food was orgasmic. It has been a loooong time since I have been able to describe any food like that, since in my age and experience I have become somewhat of a food critic...

The dance was like any school dance. Not the music I normally listen to, but I definitely had a lot of fun. I saw a lot of friends there...and I'm going to be sad when my senior friends get old and graduate in about a month.

Kitty is the sweetest guy ever. I'm so lucky to be with him.

I applied to my school district's career and technology training center.

This is the first year they're doing a course in culinary arts. Naturally, a lot of people signed up.

And I got a spot in. I was bouncing off the walls when I heard the good news.

A lot of my IRL friends know about my father's "pet project" but to those who don't know.

For the past BAJILLION years, my dad has been building an airplane.
Straight from scratch. Well, guys, from what started out as a few sheets of aluminum, a secondhand airplane engine, and a dream...it's an airplane now.

Well...let's see. School is difficult lately. A major source of personal stress, with my mother's constant badgering for good grades. Bs aren't acceptable. Cs are asking for murder. And there is no way in hell that I would be allowed to fail. I mean, I love my mom...I love her so much, but I am under SO MUCH STRESS, and I'm sleep-deprived, and I spend soo much time worrying...She sets her sights so high, and I'm really trying to keep up.

I understand where she's coming from, I mean, I really really want to get out of here when I graduate... I guess I'll just work harder. Really all I can do.

Wren, AKA ~Kuro-Arashi and I have been spending a lot of time together. She's at my house about once a week...i mean, yeah, I might use her as an emotional crutch at times, but I get the same treatment in return, with a lot of hilarity sprinkled between the crisises. I have no idea where I would be without her.

and I, after a long squabble, are starting to talk again, and are putting the past behind us. Missed her so much.

Still going strong with the bellydance. I practice when I can, which tends to be about half an hour a day, more on every day except Wednesday. Then I stretch out to an hour. It's good workout, good for my abs, and I'm having an absolute blast.

Thanksgiving is coming up, and you know what that means. Going to Dallas to see my famfam. And I mean the biological kind. I'm excited, because it's getting out of the house, and with luck, seeing ... I have a strange request. Anyone have Tripp pants that would perhaps fit me that I could borrow before the break? I wanna scare my family. Because it sounds like fun. Of course, I'll take anything. My "dark wardrobe" is rather limited, lol.

I've been battling with minor artist's block, but I'm slowly emerging.

And the question has hit me a lot this year. What do I want for Christmas? Surprise me. It's the odd things that make me smile. Even if I get nothing else, I'd love giftart. Art, in my opinion, is a piece of your creative soul. You put a piece of yourself in it, and that means a lot. You know what I like, and if you don't, ask someone in my friendslist I post at the bottom of my journal. They're bound to help you.

But don't feel obligated.

I'll prolly be doing giftart for Christmas, because I'm strapped for cash...but i'll try.

Anyway, this has been a very long journal. Hope you enjoyed reading it.

I'm just worried. I mean, it's not every day someone so close to you gets a potentially life-threatening illness...

And I mean REALLY close. I mean, ever since she came into my life, we have pretty much been friends. She's always been there. Even when nobody else was.

I'm here, alive, because of her.

I get home from the lakehouse, and back into reality, and I get onto devART, and...damn it. Way to go, reminding me. I went to take a shower, and I couldn't stand it. I hunched over in a pile, getting scalded by the water, and cried.

I know it's pathetic. I'm not the one sick.

WHY DO I HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT EVERYONE ALL THE TIME. WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY. WHY DO I HAVE TO CARE ABOUT EVERY PERSON WHO IS MY FRIEND.

I hope she gets better. I really do. I hope she is going to be ok. I just wish both of us could wake up from this crazy dream. Just make it go away. All the worry, and this crazy tumor.

I mean, it just felt like just another day at school, like summer never happened. I show up, and immediately all my old school friends, especially those of the male type from the anime club came up to me, hugged me, spun me around, and held me there until i poked them a few times to let me down, because I'm short.

My schedule is going to be nothing short of interesting this year.

In Multimedia, we're working with Flash and Photoshop all year. Loads of fun.

In Dance, I am with my buddeh Nami, so that's all cool. Hopefully she'll be coming as Namine to Oni, if she can convince her mom.

Oh, ~Pink-Poogleh, I have no idea what you had against Communication Applications. (That's speech, for everyone else. It's the coolest class ever.) It's so much fun! It's a class about TALKING, you do that a lot! The assignments are a breeze, and yes, there's note-taking, but it is soo fun!

It helps that I have the most awesome teacher ever.

PHILOSOPHICAL RANT WARNING!

I was asked recently why I cosplay. Why do I divulge in such a strange hobby, burying myself in the fun of dressing up as anime/videogame characters. It got me thinking.

Think back to your childhood. If you are female, you always dreamed of becoming a princess of some faraway land. If you're a guy, you always wished you were a superhero, being able to save the world from any person who needed assistance.

It was an alternate reality, this game of "pretend". You were able to escape the fact that you were a powerless little child and be a whole different person, with a different life and set of problems.

Think about acting. I'm not into theatre, but I know a few of you who are. I would be into it, but time conflicts, etc. When acting, you put on your costuming, disappear behind the stage makeup, and you are someone else entirely. You act as the character would act. You, and who you are, ceases to exist. Well, as long as you are in-character. The wig comes off, and you're the same old person again.

Cosplay is my escape from reality. It's not like I like to hide myself, running away from my problems, and hiding who I am, but having the chance to even just for a few hours or days, to become someone I admire, someone I think is rediculously hot. someone I roleplay as. It's...surreal.

And that would be the point, wouldn't it? It's making a fantasy into reality, taking things that exist only in imagination, in books, in anime...Making it at least somewhat real.

Cosplay. A suspention of reality. Pure magic.

popped in for a few hours, it was great to see her, since I hadn't seen her since Anime Matsuri. As usual, I was a spaz, which is how I always am when I'm around unfamiliar people.

I have to finish summer reading. No fun. I have about 100 pages to go, and a week to finish. I'll make it.

I have textbook checkout on Wednesday, and I get my schedule! Hopefully I get the classes I want, and I still need to sort out rides to Japanese.

This week I have so much to do. I have to:
-cut my hair
-(hopefully) dye my hair
-finish my Saix cosplay
-have an anime club planning meeting
-finish that stupid book
-re-wean myself onto a bed-at-eleven-up-at-five schedule
The list goes on and on...

But hey. It's all good. Sophomore year is gonna rock.

I've spent the past three days procrastinating and packing. And...I think I got everything. Anyways, it's a plane to SLC, then to Pocatello...ten days with family, six days at the BYU-Idaho campus, and then five days with family before I leave. I'm gonna cut my hair!

For some odd reason, I find him and smell really...nice. I like wallowing in 's bed a lot...because it is warm and fluffy and it smells like her. O.o

I also like ... she smells good. And so does her bed.

Odd, I know. Maybe I'm just crazy. I mean...none of them I'd go out with...for varying reasons ( )...but I have like...superhuman senses, and you can tell a lot about a person by scent.

She's a transplant to Texas from California, I met her beginning of my freshman year, and we were lunch buddies in the library. Her hobbies include the Sonic the Hedgehog games, and smelling Bibles and claiming she smells God.

Her art's in a somewhat transitional phase right now, she's going from a Sonic-type style to a more anime-ish flavor. She also designs tattoos, and draws kickass dragons.

One of my really good dA friends. She lives out in Luling, anout 2.5 hours away. I met her at Videogames Live last July, and we became fast friends. We reunited at Anime Matsuri, and had a freaking awesome time.

Her art consists of awesome CG'd aminals of assorted sorts, but she is totally awesome at drawing wolves. From what I've gathered, it's all with a mouse, and mostly on MS paint. Which blows my mind.

Met her last January, she lives across town. We share a mutual aquaintance, . We haven't gotten a chance to hang much...Dx

This chick's in my Venturing Crew, I met her through . She doesn't talk much, but when she does, she's really funny. She's a good friend, and has a mohawk obsession. But who doesn't love those?

Her art is mostly anthro-ish, cenering around tasmanian tigers, and other creatures of the sort. It's sooo much better than mine, and she needs to draw more yaoi. (remember the day we met? xDDDDDD)

She was a senior my freshman year. We share many an inside joke, and apparently, I'm in her lesbian harem. O.o;;; But seriously, we usually spend time making jokes about and talking about her crazy boyfriend.

Her art got her a scholarship to ART SCHOOL, yo. She's working on a manga (I...think), and so far it looks good.

I just sepent a little over a week up in Ft. Worth Seeing family, and more importantly, my lovely lovely , and most importantly, A-Kon. With lovely lovely .

The con rocked. I dressed as Zell, from FF8. The jacket was made by the lovely lovely , she also styled my wig.

In return, i had to spike her Cloud wig. It looked awesome. But the humidity said, "OH NO YOU DON'T!" and killed it several times.

I got to reunite with a very special person at this con. My close friends will know about my "older brother" Hoyt. I finally got to see him again. Naturally, I was a dork, and I cried. But seriously. Could I really help it? I finally got to say to his face everything I wanted to say. Thank you for making me the person I am today, saving my life, all that jazz. It was weird. It has been over a year, and...diluting yourself into a belief that you don't love a person, when you love them more than life itself, kinda lulls you into a false sense of reality. Recently, I was denying his existence altogether. Was he just a dream? Just another realistic voice in my head, one of dozens? The fact that I was there, crying in his arms, and he was actually there...holding me...

WEIRDEST THING EVER.

Still waiting for my friend Wrennie to get back from England, so I can have her over. I seem to have become her therapist.

Today marks the 8-year anniversiarry of the Columbine High School Shootings.
I know we are all still shaken from the disaster at Virginia Tech, and I mourn greatly for the victims and their families. That's a terrible thing to have happen to a loved one.
I honestly think that Columbine was more tragic. Probably because it hits a little closer to home. I used to be that way. It sounds weird...but we all go through it. I'm better now. I'm...happier. Life is very good.

But... at my high school, there is great worry about a certain message written on the wall in one of the girl's bathrooms.

I'm scared outta my wits. I take these things seriously, and my principal's being really hush-hush about this, and that's what freaks me out. So if anything is on the news about a certain school shooting, that would be me.

First off.

I spent the weekend in the middle of the Texas Hill Country, one of the most beautiful places on EARTH. We normally go swimming, hiking...and we drive ATVs like...everywhere. I normally stick with my little brother, who is like, 12, and his friend Paul who is also 12 and whose parents own the property we stay on. I am the oldest in the group, so I get to call the shots, right?

WRONG.

It's always, "Ali, you ride in back of the ATV, you're a girl." Or, Ali, stay in the cabin while your younger brother hauls wood really slowly while you freeze to death." Or, "Ali, stay behind with the women."

OK. I'M A GIRL. I (sorta) HAVE BOOBS. I DON'T HAVE A "Y" CHROMOSOME. Does that mean I am any less of a person? Does that mean I am uncapable of running with the men? Well, obviously so. Pisses me off... *grumblegrumble*

Secondly!

Anime is my life, my passion. It is what I do, and it is an escapism I hold very near and dear to my heart. So I am sitting in he den this evening with my younger brother, who is a card-carrying Narutard, eating dinner with him and watching Naruto before I scramble to my office to check dA. I have a thought, and I turn off the TV and stand up.

"Hey, Chibi. Have you noticed that there are a lot of n00bs running around?"
"Yeah." (granted, just b/c Chibi's a Narutard doesn't make him a n00b, he's been otaku for about 2 years. Me...*thinks*...hmm...3.)
"It makes me mad. All they like is Naruto and Inuyasha, and FMA."
"And they call themselves otaku. It makes me sick."
"Amen to that, Chibi. I mean, there are anime out there that are a million times better. And theses stupid n00bs are flooding our conventions and thinking they're all that."
"At least you can put a stop to this. You run the anime club."
"I'll tell you something, Chibi. If you see a n00b, you can show 'em who's boss. And if they are smart enough to ask you who you think you are, tell 'em who your sister is."
"Really?"

I'm sure you all agree. They think they are so great because they watch everything on Cartoon Network, and OHEMGEE, that means they're anime freaks.

I was watching that shit when it was still in JAPAN, suckahs.

I was watching anime pretty much since second or third grade, 7 years ago. I only gained the awareness 3 years ago.

I seriously want to slap them all in the face and tell them to come back for their title when they've learned something. Go watch some REAL anime and tell me where your Inuyasha plushie ran off to.

I want the n00bs to stay away from my conventions. They're jacking up the admission prices and being really stupid. Give me a BREAK.

Anyway, I could go on for hours. Better quit while I'm ahead.

OH. EM. GEE.

It took two hours to just cut out all 12 yards of fabric that it takes. TWO FREAKING HOURS. *sighs*

aaaaand, on top of that, I'm not getting ANY work done on the thing tomorrow, I have a dance recital to participate in. But at least I get to see , my sis Gakku. But my feet are throbbing, I'm gonna have to spend an hour rehabbing my ankles tomorrow.

Saturdai
I was packing and literally had half an hour. Talked on AIM while shoved stuff into bags, then left. Drove for like, 1.5 hours, and hit where we were staying, a condominium right on the seawall. We checked in, uploaded all our bags, and went to Hasting's to buy books. Soon after we returned to the condo, my mom and brothers came, made a hurried dinner, and we went to bed. Not enough beds in the place to accomidate my parents, brothers, aunt, and uncle, so I get to sleep on the stairs landing. On the floor.

Sundai
A lazy day. My dad and I went for a drive to the eastern end of the island, and then went back to where we were staying and my aunt (I think to shut me up) taught me how to knit. So I spent the afternoon reading and knitting and trying to stay out of trouble.

Mondai
It was rainier than all hell that day. So we got in the car, drove across the causeway to the mainland, and went shopping. I did not just get one dress, but TWO! They're both rather nice, but still, what was I THINKING???

Tuesdai
We ventured onto government property (oooooh!) and got to see several hundred loggerhead sea turtles they were trying to save/were performing experiments on. Then it started raining really bad. REALLY BAD.

Wednesdai
Went to Moody Gardens. Started in the clear Rainforest Pyramid and looked at all sorts of amnials and stuff...ran into my bestest friend Joe. That made me VERY happy. It was really funny, I glomped him out of nowhere, and it took him a really long time to realize that the chick clinging to him was me. He was off to see Happy Feet in IMAX, so I let him go and went to the Aquarium pyramid, and got to stare at feeeeeeesh. Joe taps on my shoulder, and throws something in my hand, and runs away. He gave me and my brothers passes to see Happy Feet in IMAX that night. I tried to track him down and thank him, but apparently Joe is ninja, and I could not find him ANYWHERE.
But anyway, that night, I got to see Happy Feet, and I was very happy indeed.

Thursdai
Went to the beach. Got really badly sunburned. Owwwwwwwwww...

Fridai
Met up with some friends and went shopping at the Strand district, and had loads of fun. I also enjoyed laughing at the stupid things Spring Breakers do. Maybe it's just me.

Todai
Packed up and left. Stopped by the Boy Scout office on the way home to pick up a few things.

All in all, not a bad vacation.
