For those unaware, (most of you) my girl M lost her job on St. Patrick's due to a stupid and probably illegal process. So, if I am not on here so much, it's because she's around in my free time and it's my true nature to be social, despite it being against my conditioning. Yes, I'm a mixed up so and so.

I finished my contribution to the Trubble Club and wasn't even the last to finish. Now I await the finished project to see what it's fate will be. , what's the story? What do you need from me?

Beyond that, I'm working my job, and it's a job. Right now, I need to be finding a second and then I will likely vanish. I come home aching and then I get up also in a bit of pain. On top of that, I get broken nails, which are painful, and somehow I managed to break that bit of connective tissue at the bottom of the inside of my lip where it connects to my jaw. And trust me, that's fun.

My car had to have a rocker arm replaced so that the belt on the drive train (I think? If I knew about cars, I wouldn't be working at Wal Mart...) would remain in place and my power steering would not conk out and the battery light would stay off and the engine would not overheat. At least it was a relatively easy fix, even if the money's not there. Still malfunctioning: the rear passenger window is being held in place with tape and the front driver side spring is shot. Never EVER buy a Pontiac...

Too much fun...

Need to catch up with Secret Wars... retconning!

Yeah, helped out with a critique on a fellow deviant's logo project for school and I realized, I'm doing this wrong. I need to revamp the process and then work through it right. So the logos I've done are getting relegated to scraps and will be replaced (some will show up again).

But here's what's going to happen here. Instead of one prospective logo, I should be tossing out at least five. And even before that, I should drop about 20 explorations of the logo's possible iterations just to round out the ideas.

So, the logos that were done, are no longer marked, as I'm going to do them again. The ones I think worked well, will return, but some of them won't. If you like them, they're in my scraps. Wooo...

Please feel free to critique, should you feel moved to do so. Once people start catching up, these stats will change drastically.
So Saturday, was the thing at Mershon Auditorium with Jeff Smith and Scott McCloud. Lots of fun, and gots me some autographs, lol. Also came to the realization that these guys really aren't celebrities, even though in my mind, they're huge people involved in something I love. M and I went and got good seats for what boiled down to a discussion of the making of Bone. Good times, especially since M recognized Jeff from her days as a pharmacist in German Village. Apparently, Charles Vess was in the audience at one point and anyone who knows about my comics addictions knows how disappointing it was to me that I missed him. Especially since he didn't actually give any kind of presentation back when he had his show at ONU...

But yesterday was also a really good day. M took the day off work, swapping it with Monday. While she was supposed to go to Meijers while I was asleep, she didn't get up in time. So we went and honestly it was probably the low point of the day.. mainly because I hate big box stores and because we did most of the shopping in the garden center and I was wearing shorts, due to a miscommunication between myself and my Storm God heritage and the actual weather..

So then we hit the comic store and I picked up a couple books and a couple from the back issues (a copy of the final issue of Strangers and the issue where David.. um, does that thing he does at the end of the series - Sorry, I haven't forced the story down all of your throats, yet and I didn't want to spoil it). Besides that, I had my other copy of Strangers 90, Strangers 1 (the Homage reboot, unfortunately) and Echo 1, with that foil cover I so, so adore...

Why? I'll get to that, but first we met up with Mystie and hit Mac's for $5 Burger night. Yum! Good eatin's and conversation.

And then we hit Wexner Center for the Terry Moore presentation. As I sat in the half filled auditorium, I couldn't help but feel where the guy is coming from. I also could think of about a dozen of my friends who would have enjoyed the presentation. Oh well...

I took away two major things from that one though.. First, Neither Terry or Jeff (who was also there) actually started self publishing until they were in their thirties, so there's hope.. lol, slim though it may be.. (Maybe all it would take is some meds for Adult ADD, LOL). And the other thing Terry said in passing, talking about people in their twenties (in reference to small press publisher's content, but also as a general statement) was that people in their twenties are coming to the hard realization that no one is going to take care of them and that most of them spend about a decade working this out for themselves in a state of depression/anger. So maybe there's still hope yet.. lol

And then we picked up Mystie and hit Jenni's (Ice Cream) on High St. I have to say, I wasn't really impressed, but then I like my flavors and they had nothing even approaching it, so I went with some fruity stuff... Strawberry, Banana and Passion Fruit. It was good, just not my thing...

Also, I have come to the decision (delusion?) that Robocop was based off of my life story, nearly word for word...

ADDENDUM: Ignore this. It has since been pointed out that the article is apparently sensationalist and overreacting to old legislation that was mistranslated in the first place. So this is me, apologizing. Booyah.

The government is still evil and run by monstrous corporations though...

I know the tubes are ablaze with this right now and so they should be...

[link]

"This will devastate the livelihood of artists, photographers and designers in a number of ways,"

This is a serious issue and it affects everyone. You want to post your family pics for your relatives half a continent away? Orphans!

Promote your own artwork and music in an attempt to possibly create your own independant career? Orphans!

How long until they decide that this applies to anything that's written? Hmmm.. Look Mom, I'm creating an "orphan" right now.

On a grander scale, if this isn't quashed, it becomes a way to control the Internet, as individuals feel they don't make a difference and keep their creations and opinions to themselves for fear of having them co-opted by the leeches who are currently threatened by the net...

Look at that Radiohead album that released successfully earlier this year. That would be considered an Orphan. Hell of a way to bring it back under the music racket's umbrella. Register it or we will and it will be OURS.

Tough noogies, sucka.

Thing is, this could also trigger a nasty backlash on the companies who are supporting this, but that would require organization and God knows it would essentially be herding cats.

Unfortunately, the strategists behind this move know that as well...

Reposted, for my personal use...

This seems to be an illustration project that is going around and it reminds me of things we used to do in my old graphics classes. If so, would you mind if I were to email you with some questions? I'm leaning more and more towards that direction every day. I mean, personally, I'm not certain my artwork is up to par, but then again I'm always my worst critic. Also, all too often, I see people getting paid for worse design, so I kind of wonder if my problem is merely self esteem/self confidence.

If you do a little digging you can find the actual file you want to view. Sorry for the inconvenience.

That being said, I want to talk a little about the image, "I wonder what she's thinking?" I have no idea where this came from. I mean, I know I drew it, but it's so incredibly different from anything else I have drawn, stylistically.

Wow... I may start drawing some images on here that are not original, but will be adapted to my style.
On "Boycotting" Gas

I've recently recieved a number of emails concerning a supposed gas boycott on May 15. This is stupid and here's why.

First of all, I don't recall gas dropping 30c following the supposed boycott in '97, as the email referred to. In '97, Gas was hovering aroun 1.35 if memory serves. Granted, I was pissed about it then, too, but nothing like now. Has anyone ACTUALLY looked intot he truthfulness of this claim or is it another case of "It's on the net, it must be true"?

Beyond that, the timing is stupid. The 15th is a Tuesday. If boycotting is done then, people are assuming that the price will drop on the 16th. I say, gas tends to jump on Thursday because that's when a lot of people get paid. What's to stop the gas companies from dropping the price that Tuesday and then jerking it up a little earlier because they know you'll need it.

What... did you think the gas companies don't get those forwards too? Riiiiight...

For that matter, you think one day of light sales is going to hurt them very much? They know you're going to need the gas soon enough and they have the funds to wait for you..

If you really want to try and drop gas prices, save two tanks of gas and buy a damn bike. Or take the bus. Oh wait... what do you mean you don't have time to do that? You have a whole 16 hours that you're not working... Surely you aren't sleeping that whole time...

Make no mistake, I have the utmost respect for what y'all are trying to do. I believe wholeheartedly that the only way we can dig this country out of the pit that we've financially and socially buried ourselves in(Yeah.. all of us.. Not just the Baby Boomers... Not just the Politicians... Every last one of us...), is to organize and take a stand for what we know is right. But you can't half ass it and expect anything at all to come of it.

Even if the gas companies weren't manipulating you and this actually WOULD work to drop the gas for a few days, what's to stop them from jerking it right back up another 50c a gallon by the end of the week?

Wake up people...

Work continues on a web comic. I know I'm not the only one interested in this hobby, so I'ma post
this, which is one of the treasures I obtained on our recent Free Comic Book Day.

This is what I get for picking up the sampler for Keenspot and Comic Genesis! Yay!

Plans are afoot for a couple of projects as well as a couple more serious ones. I find that being up all night seems to be helpoing with the stimul;ating of the creative centers, whil not contributing at all to my ability to hit the correct keys on a keyboard, as is probably going ot be apparent by any and all spelling errors. I'll tell you what I tell them in my LJ, it's the Gaelic spelling.. Deal with it...

Check it out. Spead the word. Should be an interesting day. Not wasting my own weekend on it, mind you, but you know... If I have the day off anyway, I'll hit that.

Though I have issues with the person who put up the request to do this, I'ma going along with it.

Do I find him to be a bit of an arrogant comic snob? Just a tad.

Do I find his comic art to be a bit puzzling and hard to decipher? Indubitably.

Does his writing leave something to be desired? Absolutely.

Am I stymied by the fact that he talks about doing portfolio pieces to send to Marvel, then does "pinup" style instead of comic pages, all while going on about how he doesn't care about 99% of the things they're doing? You better believe it...

I'm doing it for the cause. Ooo look, Dave Sim!

Am I a tad bitter? Of course, I am. You already knew that, you silly goblin...
