I joked that since gaining any recognition when it comes to drawing celebrities requires endlessly providing the flavor of the month, I was doomed to utter obscurity because I would never ever draw Johnny Depp. Sweeney Todd has almost managed to prove me wrong. Even with dainty little Edward Razorhands scowling his way through and Tim Burton's wife butchering a perfectly good character. And yet, I don't love it enough to break my no-Johnny-Depp creed.

And saw some bitchin' hair band paintings... would you hate them because they aren't "conceptual" enough?

My current professor loathes my work, just because of the subject matter. So much so that at this point I kinda enjoy seeing how much I can make her hate it.

But I stand by my thinking that 95% of people don't give a shit how "conceptual" a painting is if it looks cool. So what if people recognize that it's a painting of Axl Rose or David Bowie? So what if they don't think anything more than "wow, that's a pretty awesome painting of David Bowie" instead of "I can feel the artist's anger towards racism in urban communities and their burning desire for unity and equality, as expressed by this single dot of paint on this enormous blank canvas"?

So Renee can lick my balls. I'm painting Nikki Sixx for my next project, and she can lick his balls too.
All the best karaoke songs, good backing tracks instead of the usual online midi junk, and pretty damn reliable.
Is $10 good, but not Contraband good. I don't wanna say they've fallen into the trap of every other supergroup and failed at a strong enough sophomore album, 'cause all those boys play their ass off and Scott actually sucks less now, but they've lost part of the fun of the first album.

"Somebody raped my tapeworm abortion, come on motherfuckers and deliver the cow" makes no sense at all, but damn if the melody wasn't catchy as hell. Apparently you have to do a shitload of heroin to come up with the warped material of Contraband. Maybe that's what's missing. Song for song it's about the same, a few of the strongest songs, a few I'll probably always skip, but the strong songs don't jump out quite the way Slither, Big Machine, and Superhuman did.

It's a nice effort and better than 99.9% of new CDs, I'll probably grow to like some of the songs better, but I'm missing the funky Contraband style. Throw these lyrics on the music from Suckertrain Blues and you'd have a winner.

As much as it annoyed me at the time, give Scott his megaphone and Iggy Pop pants back. The boy done gone and messed with a good thing.

The movie. Not me.

I went to an advanced screening of Knocked Up, and despite it being made by the people who did 40 Year Old Virgin, and despite reviews saying it was actually funny, I went with pretty low expectations. Comedies about kids, no matter how many dick jokes and bits of nudity they have, are generally not my thing. But I was pleasantly surprised. It is actually funny. $10 funny? Maybe. I went for free, so that may have contributed to me enjoying it more.

But if you liked 40 Year Old Virgin, you'll probably like this too. I liked 40 Year Old Virgin better, but that's probably 'cause "awkward dork gets the pretty girl" is more appealing than "chubby jewish guy knocks up pretty girl". Less annoying children. It did, however, just cement all my negative feelings about having children, so that was nice.

And that hideous baby from the commercial is 10x as ugly on the big screen. Might wanna see it just for that. I know you can't read it either, maybe I'll post some pages later. Basically it's fictional biographies from a fictional street (similar to sunset blvd, cbgb culture, what have you) of people who are all just a bit more fucked up than usual.

We also had to make one product to tie in with the book, so I made a poster (not pictured, it was just a big print of the third person), and the painted dunny in the last two pictures. The picture's too small to read, but the short version is he's an S&M addict as well as a bass player...thus the handprint and assless pants.

Yeeeeah. Just thought I should show someone since the crit was very quick and seemed a bit pointless for 15 weeks of constant work.

I know no one ever reads the job services board, so I'm not even going to bother there. BUT, because I am so very impoverished, I'm putting it out there that I will make any custom munny your little heart desires.

You want hair, I can do hair. You want a cape, a cape it shall have. You want a munny with a strap-on, by god I'll sculpt the best little strap-on you've ever seen.

Munny base($25) + any additional supplies beyond paint ($__) + my time ($20+)

Describe it, I'll sketch it and quote a price.

There's also Dunnys (same thing only $6 per base and 3" tall), but since I don't have any examples uploaded at the moment...yeah. If you're interested, though, those prices would start at $15 total.

Only thing I won't do is track down a particular Munny accessory for you.
You notice how they always put the fruit and veg at the entrance to the supermarket? You go in thinking 'this is a fresh shop, everything in here is FRESH! I will do well to shop here' You never go straight to the bit with the toilet paper, loo brushes and such do you? You'd think 'this is a POO shop! Everything in here is themed on POO!'
I am a professional transvestite, so I can run about in heels and not fall over. Cause if a woman falls over wearing heels, that’s embarrassing. But if a bloke falls over wearing heels, you have to kill yourself. It’s the end of your life.

We stole countries! That's how you build an empire. We stole countries with the cunning use of flags! Sail halfway around the world, stick a flag in. "I claim India for Britain." And they're going, "You can't claim us. We live here! There's five hundred million of us." "Do you have a flag?" "We don't need a flag, this is our country you bastard!"
There's not much makeup in the army, is there? No. They only have that nighttime look, and that's a bit slapdash, isn't it?
Cleaned up my gallery a bit, nothing that will be missed. Since last journal there have been several rat deaths (all the ones named after characters who died...creepy) of a mysterious cause. My current huge painting is about Dexter. I know, that is really really awesome. It's of Brian, though, not Dex. He's cutting up a body in it. Charming, no? Hopefully it won't be like the others and I can get a good picture of it when it's finished next week.

I still have a Munny to do with the following available accessories: Hat, crown, sword, dynamite, ice cream cone, carrot, briefcase, and a banana. No idea what to do so far. Open to suggestions.

Couple custom Dunnys on the way. Hint: "That smugness of yours really is an attractive quality." "Thank you. It was either that or get my hair highlighted. Smugness is easier to maintain."

==== Rules: ====
--The 1st player of this "game" starts with the topic "6 weird habits/things about yourself" and people who get tagged need to write a journal about their 6 weird habits/things as well as state this rule clearly.

--In the end, you need to choose the next 6 people to be tagged and list their names.

--Don't forget to leave a comment that says "you are tagged" in their devpage comments and tell them to read yours.
==============

6 wierd habbits/things about myself

1. I'm an absolute, obsessive compulsive perfectionist with a deep streak of laziness and procrastination. My room is a disaster zone, but I know exactly where everything is. I usually procrastinate on projects or half ass them just enough to get a good grade then hate them because they aren't as good as I know they could have been. As I've said for years, my ambition is a speed freak while my motivation is passed out on heroin in the corner.

2. I go in cycles of being fascinated with one person/movie/band, buying everything they've ever done, then fading to quiet love and moving on to someone/thing else. Right now it's Rob Knepper (who currently plays T-Bag on FOX). I bought an old VHS movie off Amazon 'cause he's in it. Have hunted down way too many old tv episodes of law and order/CSI/Profiler/etc. Before him it was Placebo. Go figure.

3. I love to sleep, but my preferred schedule is going to bed at 6 or 7 in the morning and getting up in the afternoon. Nothing happens in the morning anyway.

4. I can only paint at night. The day is worthless to me, and I get nothing done (the fatal flaw of my painting elective and why I skipped two weeks to work at home on [link] )

5. I love buying CDs and think mp3s/iPods are terrible. Cover art and well designed booklets make me happy. It's just not the same without pictures, but then again, my hair band boys are more fun to look at than the emo fags in the first place.

6. I have a whole pile of different sketchbooks but rarely draw in more than one because I prefer drawing on illustration or bristol board. But I buy them anyway.

I'm gonna suck and not tag anyone 'cause I can't be bothered to go to their page and tell them.... It's my birthday, so I can do what I want.

Look at her Prison Break art. Right now. I feel better not being the only one doing pictures of T-Bag and Cherry all frightened n' various other things swirling around in my brain instead of photoshop wallpapers and banners of Michael. Not that they aren't lovely and quite useful, but someone has to represent the other side. Rapists, pedophiles, murderers, and racist bastards need loving fanart too.

With that in mind, I have a Wentworth Miller [Michael] picture, mostly because I suppose I had to do it, and he is rather pretty, but...I dunno, can't even bring myself to make it a scrap. I'd hate it 30 seconds later, and the first comment of "nice" would have me taking it down and scolding myself for ever putting it up in the first place. The photo's bad anyway, maybe after I buy a new scanner and can get a pretty picture of it I'll make it a scrap.

I think...I might fall asleep standing up before Thanksgiving break gets here. In reality I'm not working anymore than I did while going to high school everyday now that I've filled in all my free hours between 8 and 5 with work, but...I need to get back into that routine. Sleepy. But at least all the job entails for now is sitting in a nice comfy chair and saying "Admissions office, how can I help you?... Please hold while I transfer your call." Easy and pays well enough. Good enough for me. And I'll get a nice big paycheck just in time for Christmas shopping before I go home.

We're starting charcoal in drawing and comp. So happy. Perspective and cross countour and cross hatching and all that is all well n' good, but now I'm back in my element, n' I can bust out a kickass still life super fast. We did a fifteen minute exercise as the first intro to charcoal, just supposed to draw one of the plain spheres in the still life, n' I did the sphere and the skull next to it and the pepper behind it and the fabric it was sitting on... Gonna be fun. I already know what part of the still life I'm gonna draw, can't wait. I charcoal. Don't everyone else whining about it. Suck it up, pussies, n' deal with it.

And now, I am in a dilemma. I can either read the chapters for art history and finish them before I'll be falling asleep on the pages, or finish Cherry's hair and start T-Bag. Oh how I hate hard choices...

It didn't hurt nearly as bad as I figured it would, just like an ear piercing really. Not too sore yet. I was on the phone with my folks for an hour right after I left the shop, all that talking and explaining that I hadn't totally disfigured my face irritated it a tiny bit (since the stud is longer than necessary to make up for the swelling, which hasn't happened yet), but it's fine now. I can feel it, but it's not uncomfortable.

"You win. We've left you a huge fuck off horse...as per usual." - Eddie Izzard, on the Trojan Horse

So yeah, had a bit of a goodbye party today. One of my friends spent way too much money on going away presents for me, which on some level I knew she would, but tried very hard to get her not to by requesting a very simple present when she demanded to know what I wanted. Oh well.

'Twas fun, though. Eddie Izzard, nudist Queer Eye, Tony Slattery, tons of food, and painfully off key karaoke. And now I have candy and new mix CDs and funny pictures and Bowie.

Methinks I'm going to do a little art thingy for each of them, since I'm a cheap asshole and have absolutely zero money left. We'll see.

Every now and then I realize I could have 80 billion pageviews if I only did Johnny Depp, Linkin Park, and Good Charlotte. Sure 79,999,999,950 would be "omg ___ so hawt lolz", but on some small level it beats "who the fuck is Taime Downe "

I believe there's actually a huge market for Taime/Eric Brittingham/tuff/great white/etc art, they've just never bothered to find me. Someone had to be buying all those gold and platinum records at some point. And until all those middle age soccer moms do, I shall enjoy my obscurity and 5+/- people who do regularly know who the hell the people are.

My muse is being mean to me. Another of those times my muse/inspiration is a horrible coke addict that is out of control while my motivation is passed out in the corner on heroin. They really need to get together and even each other out 'cause this is ri-goddamn-diculous. By the time I sit down to work, I don't even want to work anymore. I've got ideas for days, piles of half finished pieces begging for that last hour or two that will finish them up, but no.

I think it's the impending doom of back to school. Enjoy the relaxation while I can and whatnot. Packing/throwing out/giving away/storing the massive amount of junk in my room is going to be a nightmare. If only because it'll prove how much unfinished shit I really do have around. Most is stuck in old sketchbooks or folders or tucked in a drawer or in a pile... Eeesh. And a lot is super old. Maybe I'll find a long lost treasure that was forgotten.

So yeah, I entirely blame my friend Gen for my recent Placebo kick. That is showing no signs of wearing off. The fact I didn't have to do the stool, since the assignment was abandoned, would have been the end of it, but nooooo, she wants it finished for her so she can take it to college and stare googly eyed at Molko while she reads about marketing...

Not that it wasn't quite a joy to do, but I now have....five Brian-related things sitting beside me, not even counting the Scared Of Girls silhouette. And I'm going to my grandparents' all of next week with my laptop, where without internet or cable I will have nothing to do but watch DVDs and draw/paint. If I return with 20 pictures of Brian, it's Gen's fault.

But he's pretty, so at least they'll be 20 pretty pictures. Yep. I'll be gone from Tuesday through Saturday.

I've got lots of new stuff that makes me happy. But alas, my life as a poor starving college student has begun since I spent my last five dollars seeing a movie tonight. No more luxury items for me.
