Well, some good news, some bad news... First of all: I passed my last exam and allready started working on my diploma! You can't imagine the relief when I saw on the list that I passed it!

I'm getting well and my nose isn't that red anymore (no more Rudolph )

Seems everything runs just fine & sweet at the moment.

But when I take a look around, I get a feeling, that everything else is getting worse. Remember the earthquake in Pakistan? The media it seems doesn't. Even if a Kofi Annan calls out for more donations, things seem to stagnate. For me as a civil engineer, the pictures of devestated cities in ruins are nearly unbelievable... what power can smack down and flatten a urbanization like that?!
So if you didn't donate until now, spare some of your money for the poeple...


Also terrible news from the other side of the ocean: the midst of the american continent is struck again and again by hurricanes, leaving a path of destruction. First New Orleans, then more devestations south-west and now the hurricane over Yucatan. It's kind of weird, reading a book on Yucatan, imaging the places, people and now seeing the terrible circumstances in the news...

Again, if you have some money to spare...

I'd like to recommend you "Ärzte Ohne Grenzen // Mediciens Sans Frontiers" ( [link] ) which is an organization with a minimum of bureaucracy, to ensure that a maxium of the donation are put to the use, which they are intended for.

I somehow imagined having the 1000th pageview would feel... different. But it's the same with growing older: As you are getting older, you expect that life would feel different, but it won't, 'cause you yourself change slowly with every day... and someday, you'll meet someone you haven't seen for years... you see how he/she changed and isn't the person you once knew... and it's like a mirror is put to your face, you see yourself from the outside and all of a sudden you realize all the changes in yourself... and hopefully, you like at least most of them.

Approximately at 20:45h Tori enters the stage, waving, blowing kisses to audience which cheers excitingly...

Then she sat down at her humongous Bösendorfer grand piano and started to play...

...and how beautiful she played, I can't explain! The set on the stage was very minimalistic - only the Bösendorfer, two organs and a piano. Only a few, well placed lights and a octagonal screen above her... and what's best: her alone without a accompaning band!

Did I mention that she played a glorious concert? BTW - she was as talkative as on other gigs, but that did'nt bother me at all. There were a lot of highlights, but the most extraordinary had been the version of "the piano man" by Billy Joel. One word: awesome.


But all good things have to come to an end, and so, after more than two hours of finest music, after two encores, Tori bounced off the stage & we were leaving the Alte Oper into a pretty warm and damp Frankfurt-City-Night...

I had the time this mornig to watch the speech of the german chanclor Gerhard Schröder. He asked for a vote of confidence in front of the german Bundestag, because the opposition blocks most of the reforms which are decided in the Bundestag in the upper house of the German parliament. That's where the opposition has the majotrity...

Since there would be still more than one year to the next election period, and he's not willing to play along this game, he chose to aks for a vote of confidence to allow the Federal President to dissolve the Bundestag and make early elections possible in september.

Now you will ask: "And what the heck is so important that this guy writes about it?"

The important thing is, that Schröder gives all his political influences away, letting the people decide, wether his party should continue the reforms of the "Agenda 2010" or take the opposition in responsibility for (at least) the next four years, the next election period.

So in september, the german people will have to decide, which course the want to follow for the next four years and once again one specific sentence comes to my thoughts, allthough I don't know, from whom it is:

"Every people has the government it deserves."



...and I hope, we still deserve a good one.

I think this is a pretty good way to get to know more about the person behind the camera, the eye, that see the picture, even before the film does...

And if there's something, that really interessts more than everything else, then it's the stories of people and the way they live their life. BTW - if you're capable of reading german, I'd like to recommend you the magazine "mare". It's about everything connected to the sea, mostly about people and how they make their living. Every issue has it's own theme - like "lighthouse", "Living at the sea" or "Oil" (only to name a few). The pictures are always of a very high qualitiy as are the articles. It's more like a book than a magazine.

So, if you're also interested in life and how it is all over the world in all it's facets, try this...

since i've been back from malaysia, i've been working on the photos i've taken .... underwater yes, that's right... though i didn't dive as much as i hoped, i had some very nice & some very itchy encounters in the quiet world sub zero (meters)... i've met nudibranches, clownfish (no, not marlin and also not nemo!), barracuda, pilotfish and _a lot_ of jellyfish.... i've seen bright & shiny houses of coral as well as rusty, but not dead belongings of men...


to be honest, i'm astonished every time i'm down there in the cool & quiet world sub zero, below the surface...

first thing i'd like to submit is an impression of the borderline between the world - a border crosser, if you like to see it in a way...

last thursday, i've been at the stereophonics concert... not because of them, but because of howie day... he and his band featured the sterephnics and they played a great gig! i wish the sterephonics would have featured howie... (but they are one of the best live bands i've seen this far...!)


... my new apartment is nearly done now. the paint is still drying in the kitchen i hope i can finally move in next week
i must admit, i'm really proud of it, 'cause i had to renovate it from the scratch... and it's getting better every day.

today, i'm looking forward to the weekend: finishing the apartment and have a nice diving-day on saturday with some car wrecks
i hope the underwater sight is not too foggy, so i can take a few good shots...

but now i've less time than before, switching between the university, my new job and my new home...

first of all: a major updat is on the way... i just made a
break in between fixing up the uw scans i promised you...

but i had a hell of a day... again, i'm having a pretty hard time with my studies. it shows, that the standards/norms geotechnics have slightly changed. this is causing me major trouble, 'cause the mathematical terms were changed due europeanisation and that's why my literature won't fit with my notes... crappy work...

i tried to save the evening by "playing" a bit with my uw pictures...
