Cities from 35 countries around the world subscribed to participate of "Earth Hour", a campaign against global warming started by World Wild Found (WWF) Australia.

The idea of the "Earth Hour" is to turn off light and electrical things this Saturday (March 29), from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., local time.

"The mobilization turnes into something planetary, something we could not imagine would happen", said WWF spokeperson, Andy Ridley.

"There are almost 400 cities, 18.876 corporations and 257.165 citizens that applied in the event's website, but we know, because of last year's experience, that many people turned off their lights without applying on the website", said Ridley.

In 2007, the "Earth Hour" happened only on Sydney and gathered more than 2 million people, and more than de 2.100 corporations, cinemas, teathers, restaurants, discos, clubs, schools and churches.

The responsables believe that this year event will gather more than 30 million people in Australia, Canada, Denmark, USA, Phillipines, Israel, Ireland, Thay and many others.

" It's surprising how some countries, without having a WWF office, are also preparing awesome acts", said Ridley.

The fight against global warming is also this year main event of World Health Day (April, 7th). It's also one of the major concerns about public health.

Let us keep to our promise as stated in the Fourth Millennium Development Goal and act to reduce the mortality rate among children under five, by two thirds.

Every year, over 10 million children live and die before they reach their fifth birthday. This means 30,000 children every single day. Most of these children live in developing countries and die from a disease or multiple illnesses that could be treated or prevented easily. Malnutrition contributes to over half of these deaths. Every 1 December is celebrated the WAD - World AIDS Day - a day to fight against AIDS.

A little about this year's campaign:

The theme for World AIDS Day 2007

World AIDS Day was originally organised by UNAIDS, who chose the theme after consultation with other organisations. In 2005 UNAIDS handed over responsibility for World AIDS Day to an independent organisation known as The World AIDS Campaign (WAC).

The WAC’s slogan for their work is "Stop AIDS: Keep the Promise". This is an appeal to governments, policy makers and regional health authorities to ensure that they meet the many targets that have been set in the fight against HIV and AIDS, and especially the promise of universal access to HIV treatment, care, support and prevention services by 2010. This campaign will run until 2010, with a related theme chosen for World AIDS Day each year.

The 2007 theme, “leadership”, highlights the need for innovation, vision and perseverance in the face of the AIDS challenge. The campaign calls on all sectors of society such as families, communities and civil society organisations - rather than just governments - to take the initiative and provide leadership on AIDS.

I was going to post a drawing, but I couldn't do anything about submitting... aparently my drawing was corrupted, so the didn't accept it... But that's ok, we can let it for later...

Well, you must have notice that I haven't been posting anything here... It's because I was aproved on my entrance exams and was admitted in a University far from my home... (well, it's not that far, but it's not on my town... I decided to aplly for this one because I think, and they say so, it's better than the ones there)... so I have to moved from my town to another...
I'm living with my uncle, my aunt, my little cousin and my grandma right now, and they do have a computer, but I don't wish to bother them, using their PC a lot... so I'm saving my time to research and e-mail... Sorry, but I have to make this choice!
Well, within 4 months (or before! ^^) I'll have my own PC, so I wish to return posting soon...
