Backstory:
I moved to Portland OR about 3 months ago. The aim and goal (other than getting out of the backwoods I've grown up in) was to go to culinary school. I'm taking commissions to make the load on my wallet a little easier :3

What I am willing to draw
I'm willing to draw just about anything that isn't pron--you can ask for it, but you're only going to get me blatantly making fun of it without even a naked boobie to assuage you. But fanart, your original characters, my original characters (for some reason, it's literally all I've ever been commissioned to do), furries, anthros, teh gays, non-sexual nakedness, you got it. Just no prons.

Or excessive disgustingness.

C'mon, I work with food all day and still have to eat at some point. And I've got a real weak constitution when it comes to that stuff.

Prices:
Rough Sketches: $1
These are literally just rough sketches. Little doodles of a character or two done in pencil. Construction lines are left in. Since I scan them and send them through email, I'm willing to throw a color gradient over the lines if you'd like.

[Example]

Pencil sketches: $3
Same as the above, but with a little more effort and with the use of an eraser (no construction lines for you :3). $3 for two characters, maybe a prop or two, no background. For an extra dollar, I'm willing to add a bit of marker shading. Can ship to you for 54 cents (cost of an envelope and stamp).

[Example 1]
[Example 2]
[Example 3 (with marker shading for reference)]

Pencil commission: $10
A refined version of the above pencil sketch, you'll get as true a background as I'm capable of and full shading. Colored pencils might be negotiable. Bristol paper.

[Example 1]
[Example 2]

Pen and Ink: $20-40
Line weight, shading, one-two people, props. Extra 5 dollars a person, four people max, backgrounds. Drawn with Copic archival quality pens on Bristol paper. Cost is dependent upon complexity of characters/scene/background.

[Example 1 (cost about $35)]
[Example 2 (cost about $25)]

Cell-shaded CG: $20-40
This would be anything you see in the comic: fully colored characters (up to two included in the base price, an extra $5 per person, up to five total--more are negotiable though) and props. Backgrounds are optional, and will be painted. These can be full color or black and white. Original line art will either be hand drawn on paper or as a digital sketch on a separate layer, depending on the complexity of the piece and my mood about it. Again, cost is dependent upon how many characters/intricate details/backgrounds/etc.

[Example 1 (cost about $20)]
[Example 2 (cost would be $20)]
[Example 3 (cost would be about $35)]

Painted CG: $25-50
Slightly more expensive than cell-shaded, in respect to time. Two people are included in the cost, but you can have up to 5 (this number is negotiable, however) for an extra $5 a figure. Full color (or full greys), with props. Backgrounds are optional. Original line art will either be hand drawn on paper or as a digital sketch on a separate layer, depending on the complexity of the piece and my mood about it.

[Example 1 (cost would be about $35)]
[Example 2 (cost would be $55)]
[Example 3 (cost would be about $40)]
[Example 4 (cost is $25)]

Shipping
I'm willing to ship traditional and digital commissions alike through the mail.
Sooooo, yeah. As of Monday, I'll have been running my little comic for 4 years, and as it's the single longest running (and active, I should totally mention that it's still ACTIVE) project I have, I thought I'd throw a little contest.

And I totally should have mentioned this here weeks ago when I started the contest, but if enough people complain (and are actually going to enter), I might push back the deadline. To the point!

There are two contests. The first is a fanart contest--fanart, fanfiction, guest comics, cosplay, stick figures that vaguely resemble the characters, anything's welcome. I has to have it by Saturday at midnight* however (like I said, I'll fudge the deadline if enough people are interested). Winner gets the original sketches, line art, and a full color print of a secret illustration that I've been working on for a while, mailed to them free of charge. Runner-ups get doodles of their choice.

The second contest is to tell me who your favorite character is, and why. Winning character gets a pinup wallpaper. Also, seriously feel free to babble about WHY you love that character so much, because whoever has the most awesome** reason gets a little sumthin'-sumthin' of their favorite character as well. This one's due on Sunday at midnight***.

In'nerested? Wanna enter? Either note me your entries or send them to runbyhugging@gmail.com
Or bitch in the comments about how I totally gypped you all on time. :3

*By "Saturday at midnight", I technically mean early assed Sunday morning. Which also means you can technically turn it in up until about 8am on Sunday.
**Level and reasoning of awesomeness yet to be determined
***By "Sunday at midnight," it means early assed Monday morning. Which also means if you're willing to push it, you have until 6am Monday when my alarm goes off.

I have NO IDEA when the comic will get back to any kind of schedule.
I have two computers, my PC, and my apple laptop.

The laptop (Sabriel), I use for emergencies, school, writing, and I'll dink around on it in photoshop if I have no other choice, because I typically have to go back in and re-calibrate my colors afterwards since if I nudge the (small) screen even half a centimeter, the entire color dynamic changes. Usually when I'm traveling I'll use Sabriel, but she's not my favorite thing to work on unless I have the opportunity to jack into a second monitor.

My PC (Torrigan) is my work horse. Because she monopolizes my desk, I typically use her for all of my comicking/illustration needs. As well as all my other daily needs. As I'm not going to be able to use her the first few weeks at the new place (as I won't have my desk with me), I set aside my weekend (yesterday and the day before) to back everything up onto my external so that I can have all my info with me to use on Sabriel. But just like every time I set aside a day to back shit up, something goes terribly/irreversibly wrong...

My PC has been infected with the *(#&ing Trojan.vundo, dammit!
Literally, I woke up yesterday with every intention of making the transfers (which takes a while since she doesn't have firewire capabilities), to learn she'd been compromised. I know which partition it's settled into, and I'm not worried about my magnorth files (since I typically keep those backed up to snuff), but STILL. So on top of packing and moving, I have to back up what I can salvage, wipe the system back down to nothing, and reinstall everything from the OS up, as I won't have access to most of the programs after moving. (I'm sure there are ways to get rid of the virus, but I need to rebuild her anyways....just wasn't planning to yet.)

Weeeeeee.
This takes precedence over comic. I'm going back to school to be a digital media major, and I NEED my workhorse. Until I can get her up and running again, there's no point in having moved to go back to school, since I'm going to have to do a lot of my rendering at home (<--loves having legal copies of uber programs).

Weeeeeee.
Comic's on hiatus until further notice. Fanart/guest strips would be greatly appreciated and will be much loved.

Oh god, I have no idea where to start.

So today makes my 3rd aniversary here at deviantart; and here I am with nothing worth uploading for it. Hell; I feel like I've forgotten how to draw over the last four days. I only remembered to look at how long I'd been on da on a whim. One of those random thoughts that sneak up on you in the middle of class during a discussion on something that's vaguely important. And it just happened to be today.

I still draw my heads too bit like I did 3 years ago, but overall, I'm pretty sure I've improved.

Anyways, that's about it, really. I've got projects in the works, and another photoshop class at school, probably my last one. My comic's still coming along, and hopefully I'll be able to work on it this term, without putting it aside like I typically have to.

Wish me luck on that last part.
So about those requests...and my trade with ...and my comic and my art in general...yeah. I went and smashed my finger this weekend something awful. So school has become a priority. So that...you know, I can keep attending and thereby graduate and all. Anyways, yeah. Smashed my finger; get to go find out in 30 minutes if I get to keep my fingernail or not. I'm hoping keep, but I'm realistic and figure I'll be leaving the Health and Wellness Center with at least a hole drilled through it.

But I'll be alright. I have a BFS concert to go to tomorrow night and vicodin at home. Just need a bit of patience on everyone's part regarding trades and requests.

On the plus side, I've found my camera ^.^

You know, I always swore I would never do something like this...

So here's the deal. I've had carpal tunnel since high school; I've done the physical therapy thing several times, and I've given up music and video games to stave off the pain. While doing some work for my parents last week, I fuggered my hands up badly enough that my parents are in the process of getting surgery for them set up for summer, which is a serious yay.

The problem, however, is that I won't be able to work a steady job this summer, which leaves me with zero income. So here's the plea. Commision me, buy a print, anything. If there's one you want that isn't offered, just let me know and I can make it available. Leave a comment or note me if there's anything you can do to lend a hand and we'll figure something out. I'm not expecting any charity here, I'm totally willing to sing for my supper, I just need a song to sing.
I've got a number of artsy-fartsiness things that have been lying around here half finish, and I have every intention of finishing them in the soonness. Just a little announcement since I know there are at least two or three people here on DA that read it: my webcomic (which is active again ^.^) is nearing the end of the first chapter, so I'm doing a kind of call for guest strips to run for as long as I have them, one a day. So if you're interested, just note me for the details; there are a couple of weeks yet.

In other news, spring term has started and I'll be lucky to survive it. Hopefully I can keep up with some artsiness and said comic. I'm on top of things now, but it's only been a week >.<

Back to the comicking with me, then.

Spent most of the last two days scavenging consignment stores or returning Christmas presents with the boyfriend. As a Christmas/Early birfday present for my big sister, I found two very nice dresses, one an abandoned prom dress sorta thing, the other a stainy black evening gown, because I've been dying to do a make-shift photo shoot with her, especially as I have a half empty room with a huge wall to turn into a backdrop.

So last night I was setting up my brand new monitor. One that I've been eyeing for a while - 17" flat panel LCD with different presets for night photo/text/movie, day photo/text/movie, and "normal". I finally had the chance to purchase it for myself a few weeks ago when my monitor died.

So I spent sometime last night scouting around under my desk, unplugging the old monitor, the new one put together on an old table I've been forced to use for drawing and that I keep my photo paper in and some old B&Ws that I took in high school. And then I pulled the old monitor forward so that I could unplug the power cord and move the behemoth, my hand fumbling around in a tight space between my monitor, the wall, and the shelf attacked to my desk.

Fumbled...fumbled...searched...eh!?

On a whim, I plugged the cord back into the surge protector and pushed the button...

The blasted thing had come unplugged! Which just pisses me off, because that had been one of the first things I'd checked when it hadn't turned on; I reached behind my monitor and made sure the power cable was in place, because it'd come unplugged on me before, and it had been. I guess just not all the way.

So now I have two working monitors...and I'd set myself up a dual screen set up, except that the old monitor literally took up a third of my desk. So I've just moved the old one to my old drawing table and set up my new screen, that I really hadn't been able to afford when I purchased it.

Not that I'm complaining...I have a new monitor, even if it was expensive, and I have my desk back - a good 12-14 inches between the monitor and the edge, and another foot behind, where I've decided is a better place for all of my DVD and CD rs.

Just give me a chance to figure out how to turn on the mac.

So yesh...in an art class again (which theoritically means that I'll have stuff to put in this account...but I'm not to sure because the class is stiffling and the dude's...well, he's a butthead). If anything, it's an excuse to buy art supplies.

So...I went and splurged on some Micron's for myself.

I've been using decent flow pen pen's for forever...holy monkeys of God I understand why people pledge alligance to the honors of the Micron. o.o

Soap, well, I've got some new "doodles" to put up. Actually, that's crap. I put a lot of work into these little bastards, but and I actually have to alter Jack a bit in Photoshop because he didn't come out quite right and my table buddies were shaking the table. So he needs some minor surgery. Chi just needs a little bit of clean up, once again because my table buddies were shaking the table. So I'll have those up before Wednesday or so...it's a pain in the butt because *my* computer, Kris, has the scanner and the photoshop capabilities...but the *family* computer, Phil, is the only computer with internet access.

I really need to figure out what's going on with my router and do something about it. Then I'd actually be able to use this account thing 'ere.

But, yeah. Masterful inks up soon.

Oh, yeah, and the best part is, I can use them for my art project ^.^

yeah, all my final projects are due next week. I'm such a perfect student, ne?

I think I can actually manage to say that and get away with it because most of what I'm uploading I finished a while back.

so i bought this nifty new pen a few days ago. And I'm lovin' it. Bwa ha ha. I was having a real problem with the picture I mentioned last time...to myself...auoh, no one know's I'm here *sigh*

Heh. But yeah. I was havign problems with the lighting on the picture I mentioned before, so i busted out the pen, and ditched the pencil lines. Didn't really want to do that, but I figured I probably should. Anyways, I've got it colored ^.^ Mostwise; still need to figure a background and stuffs, but it's mostly done.

So yeah...back to the school work I haven't touched all day.

ok, I swear I just made an entry. O.o Maybe Phil's just being cranky again; he doesn't seem to like da. anyways, the gist of the last entry was "I have this picture that I'm loving but the light source is being a bitch."

So I'm curious; if I posted a work-in-progress sorta thing, would anyone mind helping me with the lighting? Because my comp and DA dont' get along at all. But I really wanna get this picture right...

yeah. I leave now and hope this one actually adds.

So about 2 weeks ago I was doodling and drew out a really decent picture of Jack.

It stopped being a doodle around the first hour.

Anyways, I shaded it and it's all sketchy...so when I started coloring it in photoshop it got really nifty lookin' because of the implied textures; I'll be working on it between classwork this week. Think I wanna turn it into a desktop, because for once I drew a background, kinda. I dunno. I'll see how it turns out once I shade it; I'm having light source issues, so it'll be a while. But I just felt like announcing it (to myself?) before I forget and don't have access to the wacom tablets anymore; lab closes in 2 weeks and 2 days, so I need to have it done by then. Along with all the rest of my homeworks >.<

But if anyone would be willing to help with my lighting issues, I'd be appreciative? *hint hint nudge nudge* I'd post a in-progress of it and stuffs....yeah.

Ok...bed.

Anyways, since Phil (the family comp) is allowing me to upload again (finally) I'm gonna give another shot at uploading my avatar. Doubt it'll happen, but ya never know. ^.^
