deviantART is not a group or a corporation or an army and should not operate that way for the enduser. I understand why a website needs to draw revenue and employ leaders, but why should I submit to a hierarchy? If you track my time spent on this site, then you track what I look at. I don't like that. If you track the value of my art and give me a public performance rating you belittle my shortcomings. I don't like that either. Negative reinforcement doesn't work. People will just leave rather than strain under the ideal of constant improvement. The fact that you even believe in the theory of everlasting upward growth and continual gains in profit betrays your lack of understanding of true growth, of art itself. And I am right in calling it a theory just look at ENRON.

Boobies are NOT art, a pickle is NOT art, (ask cweeks a True Artist I hold in the highest esteem, you get a different answer) even cweeks' snail trail pic is not art, although I do believe it to be more artistic than a pickle, which in turn is more artistic than (OMFG) boobies. And that is my personal belief of the value of art on this site. That's a little segment of my internal artistic gauge of merit. To make something like that public, to force artistic value to be held up to the ideals of the lowest common denominator is the definition of fascism.

So i've joined a fitness cult.

And right on cue developed another cold. I ALWAYS get the flu/headcold right before going to the gym, or right after deciding to get serious again. They won't stop calling my house, I joined on monday and they've called three times! They gave me all this free crap on the condition that I get other people to drop by and try it out, but no one's interested and now I'm afraid they'll take it all back. I like my new gym bag and baseball hat. I got new sunglasses too for free for joining before the end of the month. The equipment here is 10 better than at the Y. Not too bad for $500, but you get what you pay for. I still havent made the leap to cooking 'healthy' food, but I still don't think it's warranted.

Made pizza from fucking scratch yesterday. Only took me 4 hours. Note to self, never open a restaurant. Making dough is such a pain, I'm going to have to spend a few years working on a good dough recipe before it'll really be worth it. Woke up at 230AM yesterday and couldn't sleep. I hate new controls being placed over me and mine too, but this reaction is kind of silly. If you're one of those self declared working artists then stop reading right now, because I DON'T get paid for what I do YET, and it's apparent that my views don't matter to you YET. If your photos and submissions are so bland and not watermarked, then you don't deserve the recognition by the way.

You do NOT have the right to get paid just 'cuz someone put your photo on their cell phone. It's FAIR USE. If i decided to move files from one folder to another, or to another device that I OWN it's my prerogative. You can't say you can download this on a web browser, but not a cell phone, not a PSP, not a PDA or a playstation... What's next no laptops? You can't let people look at something, and then demand money whenever they want to remember what they saw. IT'S EXTORTION. You only have the right to get paid when someone buys a print and that is all. You're not selling work when you post art in a gallery on DeviantART, so don't act like you are. That's what DeviantPRINTS is for. If you want to get all up in arms about something, explain to me why I get such a tiny percentage off of prints for not paying for a prints account. I don't have prints 'cuz it's not worth it right now.

If you release a work in a medium that can be manipulated in these ways (downloaded, set as wallpapers, printed from printers) you need to explicitly tell people if you don't want them to be used in those ways, or take steps to prevent them from being used that way like lithiumpicnic does on his website. And we all know why you don't go out of you're way to do that is fear of being called a douche bag tightwad from other deviants, and rightly so. No one wants to see a photo with a giant watermark through the middle. No one wants to read about how and when they'll be sued for copying a pic off the net. If you're that insecure about your work, maybe you shouldn't be uploading it to the internet. America doesn't own the internet remember.

I'm sick of people confusing copyright with capitalism. No one is trying to pass off your work as their own when they set it to be a desktop wallpaper. If they're using it in an AD or as part of a website design then they are selling it as their own work. Some of you can't seem to tell the difference. Looking at art is what DeviantART is all about, DeviantMOBILE is about expanding this to mobile devices and that's all. If all of this is really about the default being set to ON then you're an idiot. Petition DeviantART until they make the default off, don't whine about not getting paid.

It's obvious to me what this is all about. DeviantART wants to make money and spread exposure of itself by expanding to additional mediums. What they've done is a little self serving however. The answer should be to make it a REAL opt-IN service, not opt out as it is now. To make a Hot Topic for people to read, not merely an email. And to explicitly ask each and every artists for their work that will be donated in this effort for fund raising and exposure of the site we love. This is what they've tried to do albeit in a roundabout way. They just cut too many corners that's all. Are you people really this angry because people can surf the internet on their cellphones, or that you weren't properly asked beforehand?

Digital rights management has it's roots deeply seated in music downloading. Go read CLICK THE VOTE (not just music), go read The Reasons Downhillbattle.org, go read the problem with music by Steve Albini, theres lots of good stuff there about where digital rights ought to be headed there.

Birthday time.. still no plans, prolly just get drunk by myself at home. havent called anyone yet. sucks having a birthday just after st patricks day, at the end of march break. atleast ill be able to drink in the states if i ever get there again...
