Life has been good. I feel a little dark today because of Sweeney Todd and from reading a murder mystery. :\
Sweeney Todd was really well done, btw, even if it was gory.

Okay this is for everyone who wanted to know about the Brand New concert. If you aren’t interested you can just skip this, I won’t be offended.

First off I went to an art store and drooled over the markers. Then I met up with my step-mom and we ate dinner before going to the concert. We got to the show at around 7:10ish (It started at 7:00). Not wanting to be trampled on the mosh pit, we went up to the balcony and got a great spot. The first band was Colour Revolt. From listening to their songs on the internet I thought they were an acoustic band. Oh man, was I wrong.

The lead singer screamed into the microphone, voice screeching. I think I’d have liked the band better if I knew what in the world he was saying. Maybe they’re better not live. Behind the lead singer there were two guitar players, one bass player, and a drummer (I think…). The lead singer switched from playing the guitar to pounding on the keyboard from time to time. Then, a figure in a green sweatshirt, hood up, slinked onto the stage and grabbed a tambourine. It was Jesse Lacey (lead singer of Brand New).

He took his place at a second microphone and started to scream/sing into it while banging the tambourine against his leg. Of course, everyone went wild. It was Jesse Lacey after all. The lead guitarist of Brand New also entered the stage with…a trumpet? Everyone on stage was head banging and jumping around. Then a skinny guy in a red shirt with a bag over his head jumped in (Jesse Lacey’s brother supposedly). Eventually the Brand New people left and Colour Revolt was alone to play one last song before Men, Women, and Children came on.

Men, Women, and Children were amazing. They really knew how to entertain the crowd. The lead guitarist and bass player traded places across the stage, while the lead singer danced around, singing energetically into the microphone. The band also had a synthesizer player and another guitar player. Every once in a while the lead singer yelled out to the crowd. “We’re from New York!” he’d say. “Are you guys excited to see Brand New?” Even though he was having a blast he seemed to know that most people were there for Brand New. On the song Monkey Monkee Men he got the crowd to join in, yelling “We’re monkeys, we’re monkeys, we’re monkeys!”

Soon they were done and Brand New was going to play. I was so excited my stomach hurt (it’s the same when I get stage fright). I slipped away to buy the Men, Women, and Children CD while the roadies set up equipment. People cheered as the techies walked across the stage, testing the guitars. I think they were hopeful the band would start soon.

Finally, around 9:05 the lights dimmed and then band members came on stage. Blue lights flickered on, moving like water. Jesse stood in the middle of the stage( wearing a white button up long sleeve shirt with another t-shirt beneath and jeans), with the drummer, Brian Lane, (wearing a dark t-shirt and khaki shorts) behind him, the bass player, Garrett Tierney, on the left (in a green sleeveless hoodie, hood up, and jeans), and the lead guitarist, Vincent Accardi, on the right (sporting a hat, pale button up shirt, t-shirt beneath and jeans). Another guitarist also slipped in and out when he was needed but he wasn't part of the band unless he joined recently. Blue waves of light behind them, the first chords of Tautou pooled out from the speakers as a wave of cheers, hoots, and screams burst from the crowd. The people in the mosh pit drifted this way and that, as though there were a current pulling them. (actually pushing rather )

“I’m sinking like a stone in the sea.” The words drifted, echoed by the crowd.

People screamed along to the lyrics (an annoying group of teenage girls next to me particularly loud). When the last notes to Tautou faded they moved onto some of their new songs. (Songs I didn’t know but was psyched to hear. Omg, I’m so excited for their new CD.) The lead guitarist bounced and danced with every song. The bass player looked cool and swayed. The drummer went crazy. Jesse Lacey stood diligently next to the microphone, spinning away to jam out whenever an instrumental part came up. Sometimes leaning over guitar, bouncing and then popping back up. Vincent leaned into his instrument, bending over and then standing back up. Or he would shift his shoulders in a slow sort of shimmy to the beat.

Songs faded by in a blur. I can’t remember the order of all of them. Somewhere in the midst of musical glee overload I heard the girl next to me scream, “Jesse Lacey, I want to have your babies!” Many songs people sang along to. (I did too when I felt like it. I wanted to sing over the group of annoying girls, though it didn’t work.) When they got to The No-Seatbelt Song, Jesse announced, “This is a lov...
