My Deviantart hasn't been updated much since.. July?
The reason is that I have been working on my final project
for my final year of this degree. I have been taking many photos for this project.

It's all kinda pretentious. But hey, that's the nature of the beast.
I am collecting photos, sounds and quotes(emails, recorded voices) and
packaging them as a book of photography and an EP of ambient 'music' of which
each track represents a chapter in the book. It's odd, murky stuff; full of found sounds.

This is the last week I have to get it ready.

I have my final year project coming up. I have chosen to do the self-motivated project, which pretty much means that it can be about anything. It must, however, have a basis in design (visual).

I am using my existing photography as a starting point for a project that may involve a book, ambient music, or a visual timeline/ story.

What I would like for now is from you, the people who have seen my work without knowing the people, places, contexts or stories involved, to give me some feedback.

What photo/work in my gallery is your favorite?
What does it make you feel?
What about my images resonates with you personally, if anything?
What do you think are the themes running through my images?

It's been tough work but really good to be a part of.
The album, along with the 20 page booklet, features 15 of my photographs taken over the last few months.

I have had an amazing holiday.
I also picked up a phrase on the top of Table Mountain earlier in June that has stuck with me:

I am working closely with local rockers THE PRETTY BLUE GUNS [link] in preperation for the release of their first full-length album.
Also, I'm preparing for my half-year evaluation (this friday) so wish me luck! There's a lot to do but so much to look forward to.

I've never lost a pet before, it was strange and very sad.
I was ten when we got him.

He wasnt in any pain at the end thankfully, and we held him as he was given the anaesthetic.

His sister Cappuccino has been barking a lot today, poor girl.

He was an amazingly strange dog. Quiet and very regal. He will be greatly missed.

Since January 1st, I have had champagne on a tiled rooftop, eaten sushi for the first time, gotten my first easel, roadtripped with my older brother listening to Dead Prez & fischerspooner, hung out with my extended family,read and re-read 'less than zero', took a surfing lesson with my younger brother, got a haircut, got a (vague)tan, swam a LOT, ate oyster for the first time, tried grilled shark for the first time, tried to play the banjo, watched the sun rise and finished three rolls of film.

All very relaxing, beach stuff. The photos are basically just random holiday shots so I guess I'll get them developed and we'll see how many I eventually upload.

The band I occasionally design for has been reviewed on the SA Levi's website..The photo was taken on their recent tour and has a bunch of people wearing the vests that I put together.

Quite an..expressive review.
Anywho I thought I'd mention it here as it was my first real design job. I was art director basically, came up with the look, location, and worked closely with Tom Pepler who took the photos for the cover and booklet. Then I put it together and did the typography/layout. Highly inspired by the photography of Bryan Schutmaat.

I feel a lot these days like I'm just practicing appropriation. And maybe thats all ok in this postmodern world, but quite honestly I'm sure I can do better. I'm going to try and do better. It's so tempting when one draws inspirations from musicians or authors to just keep on working on little tributes or fragments of someone else's idea. It's fun. But I need to move on to something new.

Music also. Been jamming in the holidays with some friends, hopefully something will come of it. We will see.

In the meantime, some new holiday photos coming soon. Rather general ones, but sincere. So they're going up. x

I still have lots of scans from the holiday that will come through sporadically, and I've been working as the designer for a local band who's launching their EP next week, exciting and challenging stuff!
The course is getting tougher, my days getting longer also. I came to realise a few days ago that I'm trying so hard to emulate what people believe is stylish, and that simply isn't me. It's too hard to please everyone. I'm going to abandon that unhealthy outlook as of now.

Oh, and It's my 1 year anniversary here on dA

Ok so the tagging game requires eight facts about oneself to be divulged.
So here goes:

1: I have been messing around with video, editing and sound since I was 12. I've planned to be famous and succesful ever since

2: I first climbed a tree(properly), did a handstand, drank vodka and danced with my friends when I was 17. This was after a change of highschool. I tend to regard my life prior to 17 as a black hole. 17 was my turning year.

3: I play guitar in a band that has been going on and off for 10 months. While we have potential, we have yet to play a gig or decide on a final name. Any suggestions would be appreciated..

4: I'm a total geek to people I admire. Musicians, Filmmakers, artists, even some deviants.

Meeting Terry Gilliam at a book signing turned me into a nervous, grinny fanboy. I was whooping and moved to tears watching Brian May do a guitar solo three meters away from me. Getting Email replies from Tyler Spencer and Warren Fischer mark high points in my year. I simply cannot be cool. I don't know what would happen if I were to watch Electric Six live. My head may explode.

5: June 2007 was when I joined Deviantart. It was one of the weirdest, lonliest holidays I have ever had. Like an off-day that lasted two months.

6: I am drawn to raw honesty in people. I find it extremly attractive.

7: My friends mean more to me than they possibly know~ I can't always express it so sometimes I'm not sure if they realise. I would go insane without them.

8: I'm turning twenty soon, which kinda scares me. But there is much to look forward to.
