If you're a good artist, I'm more likely to do a trade (well, as good of an artist as I am, anyway...if you're better artist than me, you're probably not interested in doing a trade....) If you're a bad artist, I'm more likely to take a request--in fact, the worse you draw, the more likely I am to take one.

Also, a quick note to anyone who may be here because I have +fav'd your photography or stock under "stock I plan to use" or "reference:" I use stock and photographs for reference purposes only. I will never, ever use your work in a photo manip, nor will I ever make a drawing that is a carbon copy of your photograph or stock image. When drawing my images, there are often people in odd poses, perspective shots, flowers, animals or things from nature I need references for. I may use your photograph as a reference in these cases.

To be fair, I actually have drawn recently, it's just...most of them were character designs, and I sort of feel like I only ever draw character designs anymore, and frankly, I don't think people like them very much given the amounts of comments/favs I generally get. So I wanted to post at least a few more compositions before I post anymore character designs.

I've just posted a new one, and I have a couple more in the wings. I'd like to make some more Episode covers since I'm re-launching Moon Senshi. Maybe some desktop backgrounds too.

Whether you like it or not the only objective way to judge maturity is and always will be based upon your physical age.

Yes there are nine year olds who are "mature for their age" and there are thirty year olds who have the emotional maturity of a child of seven but when you boil it all down the only thing that counts is how old you are.

I have a serious problem with the statement "the only objective way to judge maturity is and always will be based on your physical age." Now, admittedly, one definition of maturity (according to my Oxford American) is "fully developed physically; full grown." However, I think it's pretty clear from context that what realitysquared is talking about here is, at least for the most part, not the age of sexual maturation (which, if we're looking for a specific cut-off date, would be closer to 12-16)--but the age of, as Oxford once again puts it for us, "having reached an advanced stage of mental or emotional development characteristic of an adult."

To put it simply, there is no way of telling, objectively, if someone has reached an advanced stage of mental or emotional development. Where does "an advanced stage of...development" begin and end? This simply isn't something that can be measured. Sure, you might argue that it's 18 years old, since that is what our legal system calls maturity; but that isn't an objective measure, that's what a bunch of lawmakers got together and decided. After all, it was not so long ago that "maturity" in this country meant 21, and not 18--yet 18-year-olds have proved that they are intelligent and mature enough to deserve the vote.

Moreover, he ends the statement on age with "the only thing that counts is how old you are," which, despite what he has just said (that there are nine year olds who are "mature for their age") implies that he believes anything but. Indeed, his whole statement in this section of his journal implies, if not states, that he believes that a person's physical maturity is a reflection of their emotional maturity. What I don't like is realitysquared's ageist attitude--that chlidren are not capable of being emotionally mature. I think that it's insulting to the many talented younger artists in deviantART to imply that it's "only their age that counts."

did this cool "100 Question" thing, and it looked like fun, so I decided to do it too--even though nobody cares!

1] What is your pen name?
- I haven't got one. I guess you could say "sailor titan" but I never sign that way--I just use it as a username because I think a username like "Katherine Isham" is dorky. So yeah. I always just go by my real name.

2] How did you get the name?
- My mother named me after Katherine in Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew". We're both huge Shakespeare fans. Sailor Titan comes from my fanfiction/RPG, Moon Senshi.

3] Do you use PC or Mac?
- Mac, of course!

4] What software you use most often?
- Besides netscape? *L* I use Microsoft Word, Go Live or Netscape Composer. (For writing Moon Senshi.)

5] Do you use mouse, or tablet?
- A Pencil? I like pencils.

6] The color you use most often is?
- Probably blue, black or red. Those colors always go the fastest, and I have to keep buying replacements just for them

7] What area of the pictures do you put most effort into?
- hmm...it used to be hair, but I've slacked off with hair lately (guess I'm getting faster at it.) Probably clothes, because they're the hardest to shade. I'm really meticulous about trying to shade clothing well.

8] How long does it take you do draw a picture?
- As far as black and white sketches, it takes me about half an hour to do a drawing of a single person, and about an hour to draw something complicated (like a compostion.) Inking takes me about 15 minutes to a half an hour, and watercoloring can take as long as 5 hours, if it's a complicated picture.

9] Do you keep your rough drafts?
- If I color it, I don't have a rough draft, because I use real media (and I sketch right on the watercolor paper.) If I just draw a doodle, it depends if I think the doodle is any good or not.

10] What kind of font do you use most often?
- Copperplate Gothic, Times New Roman, Carlson Open Face, Apple Chancery.

11] What's the dpi when you scan?
- I think around 200, usually, though I make it smaller after.

12] Do you do anything else when you're drawing pictures?
- Sometimes I listen to music, but I really have to concentrate, so that's about all I can do.

13] How many pictures do you draw in a month?
- It really depends. Sometimes I don't do any, sometimes I can do three to four.

14] What kind of paper do you draw your pictures on?
- If I plan on coloring it, watercolor paper. I'm not that picky about the brand.

15] What kind of paper do you use for sketches and drafts?
- I don't really do drafts (I'm bad! but the watercolor always covers my eraser marks, anyway) but when I doodle I use printer paper.

16] How long does it take to ink something?
- As said previous, about half an hour.

17] Do you do doujinshi or original manga?
- I've tried. I'm terrible at it! T_T I can write really well, but my drawing sucks too much.

-Manga-wise, Probably Vampire Princess Miyu, Please Save my Earth or maybe Basara. I like Saint Tail and Wedding Peach, too. Anime-wise, I like Escaflowne, Twelve Kingdoms, and Hiime-chan no Ribon. Also, Wedding Peach and Saint Tail ^^

- Besides my own? *L* I like Nakajima Youko, Asuka Jr., Daichi, Van Fanel. I also hold a soft spot for Kyo, Momiji, and Ayame from Fruits Basket.

- Not really. I want to develop my own style, but I do often try to emulate Mucha Alfonso.

so kindly reminded everyone that today was white day, I thought I'd do my little White Day rant-y thingy.

See, here's the funny thing. Japanese chocolate companies invented White Day. They were all sitting around and thinking "What kind of stupid, useless holiday can we make up to get people to buy chocolate?" What they decided to do was make "White Day." Guys would give girls chocolate on white day, and girls would get guys chocolate on valentine's day.

The Problem?

You see, before, girls AND guys would buy chocolate on Valentine's Day. Now only girls can buy chocolate on valentine's day...so really, the marketing executives didn't increase their sales at all. Now they have people buying half their valentine's day candy on one day and the other half on the other.

Smart move, guys.

First of all, I liked the old catagories better. There's nothing traditional about the way I color, no matter how you look at it. Besides the fact that I draw people with deformed bodies and eyes, I don't even watercolor in the proper fashion. The reason why my watercolor pictures look so weird compared to most people's is that I think there is usually a pre-soaking, flattening and stretching process (not sure on the details) which I'm uh...too artistic (read: lazy) to deal with.

ugh. Stupid DA...I don't think I've even gotten anyone to read my fanfic while I've been here, on my main site or otherwise...-_-

You know what pisses me off? People who *complain* when their pictures get Daily Top Favorite. "boo-hoo. I don't like this picture. I didn't *want* it to be favorited."

Come on, people. Don't *bitch* because people like your work. If other people bitch at you and say "This shouldn't be a DTF!" tell them to fuck off. Don't whine and say "Oooh, but it wasn't my *choice,* I didn't *want* it to be a favorite." That's stupid. Who doesn't want people to like their art? Isn't that part of the reason you're in this? If you're just making your art so that you can look at it, why the hell are you posting it here?

Now, I can kind of understand the recent complaint about the DTF being an ID that the person didn't draw or anything. I don't think it's worth complaining about because it obviously isn't your fault (and the person was in the picture, which, I think, Is worth something,) but at least I can understand why you might be a little upset.

Then I go looking at someone elses' art. They go on for a paragraph about how much it sucks. Now, it's an awesome picture--at least compared to what most people can do--so everyone favorites and compliments and says "that's awesome!"

So what happens? The artist bitches and says "I don't want it to be a favorite! I have pictures a million times better than this! favorite those!"

You know what? Some people don't like the pictures that you think are the best, and sometimes the pictures you love are the ones people hate. Sometimes the scenes I get the most praise for in Moon Senshi ( [link] ) are the ones that *I* thought were weak.

So just BEAR the HORRIBLE pain of people liking your art. Jeesus.
