I've gotta post the 'nearly there' photo with the reject pieces next to it. The time and energy that those incredibly complicated wasted pieces represent is astounding. The number of times I had to simply put it away, in the cupboard, out of sheer disgust...
Alas- valuable lessons learned:
1) patterns, need not say more. patterns
2) glass has limits. Mirrored glass in particular.

I'm also nearly there with a copy of the butterfly/floral mandala box. The original went to a silent auction at the school, but I loved it so much I had to make another.
This time I think I'll tile the sides as well (a decision I've made on the floral hexagonal box too) and grout black. (Not loving white grout on many projects).

It's just nice to be back to workin'-
with a rush of optimism for this country.

I need electrical outlets and a sink.
The studio is 99% finished, and completely nonfunctioning.
I want to make noise and a mess and it's been far too long.

"we should be wrapping up late next week" is a phrase that may trigger a psychotic break should I hear it one more time.

I now have a years worth of projects backed up-
longing to work glass.

Thank the Gods for the knot class-
keeping the brain rolling,
and the heart sated,
watching others "get it".

I'm a couple of days away from the deadline to commit to fall classes and I'm torn.
I've agreed to do 2 more knotwork classes (beginning and advanced)-
which I am very excited about. I love introducing people to this magical technique.
My passion for the skill comes through in the instruction and makes for an energetic enthusiastic course.

Beadwork- not so much. I've been asked to do a beaded amulet purse workshop (as in my gallery)- but I've semi-retired my beads, and my interest.
I feel as though I'm looking a gift horse in the mouth- to get PAID to hang out with cool people and teach them to play! What kind of ingrate am I?

I miss my power tools. I miss throwing shards of glass about a room.
My studio construction is about 5 weeks behind schedule with no finish date in sight (which is especially frustrating given that the building is 95% complete).
The dry wall installers were no-show today- UGH!

What to do, what to do, what to do...

Anguishing over colors- the knots.

In Tile and Glass and so many of my mediums- I’m given a palette.
Pick the colors and work with them.
Now in Photoshop, the option to ‘make’ colors- I’m entirely overwhelmed.

Assembling the knotwork course, the most important aspect of color was contrasting them as to show each ring-
distinct enough to highlight each’s shape without deconstructing/ stripping the knots
(an exciting series to follow)

8 distinguishing colors is a challenge- I couldn’t do 12.
Many eyes aren’t easily able to follow each ribbon-
4 colors perceived as 4 rings regardless of ribbon count.

The instructional illustrations nearly done- it’s time to make some pretty stuff.
But with my science background and phobia of 1/3 the color spectrum-
I sometimes feel as though I'm simply taking a stab at it.

The 4X4X4 rose draft-
(I’m too impatient to make it perfect- will clean more later)
-is the master to rose cutwork to come.
Gotta get ready for WCC ‘Advanced Knotwork’ in the fall.
