sad...I've been preparing for that event actually, gown, looks, hair...

the reason is the lavish party held last year, the company spent 1.2 million just for the event and the CEO hasn't get over yet, I suppose he thinks it's a big loss

well...it's life.

It seems in these days of economic crisis and dwindling resources, trivial stuff like toys, hobbies and games would be the furthest thing from people’s minds. But apparently, hobbyists and collectors remain unfazed by this downturn and instead stay steady in anticipation for the next big thing in the pop culture landscape to turn collectible. They don’t have much long to wait, as the biggest event in pop culture, sci-fi/fantasy and mass media touches down in June with an explosive impact!

The 8th Philippine Toys, Hobbies and Collectibles Convention 2009 hits hard with the most anticipated gathering of toy distributors, gamers, pop memorabilia collectors and cosplay enthusiasts this side of the planet. This year’s TOYCON will take place on June 13 and 14, at the SM Megatrade Hall 2 and 3 from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

Highlight for the event this year will be the launch of summer movie blockbusters, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and the much awaited GI JOE: Rise of Cobra. Transformers and GI Joe fans will revel in these two famous toy properties with a collectors’ exhibit and movie merchandising displays from the movie’s distributor, Solar-UIP films.

Another exciting highlight for the event is the presence of MINDstyle, an international design company that focuses on delivering unique and original works to a very exclusive market by way of quality limited collectibles. They pioneered the vinyl toy design world with such artists as Michael Lau, Kathie Olivas, Brant Peters, Ron English and Buff Monster. MINDstyle will bring in two internationally renowned toy designers: Tim Tsui, one of the hottest Hong Kong figure artist illustrators. He has exhibited his works word wide designing everything from sneakers to toys to comics. And TobyHK, MINDstyle’s creative director whose works range from graphics, illustrations, web designs, characters or vinyl figures.

TOYCON will host the Philippine leg of MINDstyle and Disney’s Stitch Experiment 626 Project Custom Art Tour, a fresh look at the beloved Disney character through the eyes of some of today’s brightest artists in the vinyl toy design field. The tour will feature hand-customized, one-of-a kind versions of a special DIY blank Stitch created expressly for the Philippine TOYCON.

Another amazing exhibit to watch out for will be ABS-CBN’s Isang Lakas lifesize statues of Mars Ravelo’s creations like Lastikman, Kapitan Boom,Varga, TinyTony, Dragonna, and Flash Bomba.

TOYCON wouldn’t be complete without the annual Live Action Figure Cosplay competition, the biggest gathering of all, sci-fi/fantasy, comics and anime-inspired costume players in the Philippines. And of course the main draw for collectors is the huge retailer floor where they can hunt for the rarest and latest, most sought-after collectors’ pieces ranging from action figures, dolls, diecast cars and robots, comics and cards, artwork and pop memorabilia from all over the world.

The 8th Philippine TOYCON is sure to be the pinnacle of this year’s pop culture conventions. It will certainly have everything there for young and old alike to share and enjoy.

The Shizen Orchestra is an East Asian music appreciation convention with emphasis on Japanese music. I’m glad there’s more conventions popping up. Looks like the recession hasn’t hit the Anime Community yet (unlike our industry tsk tsk).

In any case, more events means more chances for anime/manga fans to celebrate their passion right? The Shizen Orchestra is admittedly a new name to my schedule. The events/activities they’ve got lined up sparked my interest for some good old convention hopping. Care to join me?

Concert

Various bands will perform Japanese, Korean, and Chinese music
Japanese fashion designing contest

Participants will design an outfit on paper inspired by Japanese fashion. There will to two categories: Traditional and Contemporary Design. The entries will be submitted before the Music Festival and will be judged during the event itself. Festival guests will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite designs.
Plushie (stuffed toy) designing contest

Participants will design plushie or stuffed toy costumes inspired by Japanese fashion.
Artist’s corner/commissions

Participants are artists whose works are inspired by the anime and manga styles.
Maid and Butler cafe

Convention guests will be invited to dine at this café with servers dressed as maids and butlers. The theme of this booth is inspired by the Maid and Butler cafes present in Japan. Towards the end of the event, the maids and butlers will have a music and dance presentation.
Music and Dance Contest

Participants will perform a song and dance number. The top three performances will be awarded.
Music Fashion Show

Individuals will be invited to participate in a show portraying the different fashions and their own interpretations of the East Asian music industry.
Music and dance presentations

Participants from the JAM event last July 26, 2008 shall be invited as guest performers.
Food and Non-Food Concessionaires

Products of the concessionaires are sold to the guests.

Tickets will start pre-selling of tickets very very soon, so it’s suggested for you & your friends to buy early to save you the hassle and time of buying on the event date itself. Details on pre-selling will be posted soon.

Since Hataw Hanep Hero was mostly a flop (take a good look at the multiply journals of regular cosplayers to regular convention goers), a lot of people in the cosplay, anime and manga community want another round of convention goodness. Luckily the upcoming Ozine Fest 2009 looks to live up to that demand. Ozine has always been a big event and now they’ve gotten bigger, as the event will now span three full days instead of the usual two (wonder how they’ll schedule this one).

Prepare for not one, not two, but THREE days of anime and cosplay mayhem enough to satisfy hungry otakus all over the country.

What’s in Ozine Fest ‘09?
We introduced the Ozine Maid Cafe during Anicon ‘08 last October 5 and due to popular demand, the organizers decided to provide a BIGGER venue and more kawaii maids to serve and entertain you while you dine in Ozine Fest ‘09.

Event space not enough? Then introducing the Ozine Lounge wherein event goers can sit back and relax while surfing the internet and reading our magazines with some drinks. Staying in one place not your thing? Then try your luck in the Matsuri Area wherein you will get the chance to participate in the following activities: Gold Fish Scooping, Balloon Scooping, Darts and Balloons, and Pull a String. The Matsuri not only plans to entertain its attendees with fun games but it will also have the usual Caramelized Apple, Choco Banana, Onigiri, Taiyaki, and other traditional snacks common to a Japanese Festival.

We will be providing more updates soon. So be sure to check our entries regularly.

As you can see there’ll be TONS of activities for the upcoming con. I personally am looking forward to the Maid Cafe (I didn’t get into AniCon’s Maid Cafe and I still regret it) and the raffle (PS3 please XD). I have some plans for to cosplay one of my fave games (Monster Hunter) and I’m building my costume as we speak. Hopefully I can make it in time as this is my biggest build yet. Wish me luck as well as those in the cosplay community ^_~.

Last TUESDAY our ex housemate Chad came to visit us. He reminded me to always take care of myself...then he told me he had a dream about me. In his dream, some people were chasing the two of us, he managed to run but I was left and I fall down. Then somebody stabbed me to death.

The following morning, WEDNESDAY, my office mate and friend Ishi told me she had a dream about me. There are vague dreams we know we had but we do not remember,there are also dreams we vividly remember. This dream she had is very clear to her, the scenes and even the words spoken. In her dream, I was already dead and I just appeared to her as a ghost. I cried to her and told her I am up for a revenge. Ishi saw in the dream that she had a chance to peek in my email...she read something written "HONEY KO". She asked me to rest in peace and she will be the one to take care of my boyfriend but I refused and said I will take care of everything. I asked her not to do anything because she will die too. At the end, there were men who chased her and asked her to jump in the river. Then she woke up.

I wonder, I never tell her yet about my boyfriend, whom in reality i call "HONEY KO" but in her dream she saw it in the email...sort of a clue.

Why would I die, how would I die? Why will I make some revenge? Is that boyfriend involved? But he is in the US...how?

I am not afraid of anything...just slightly scared, not of death but of that dream...

I don't know what will happen today...FRIDAY the 13TH

Collectibles Unlimited was formed in the year of 2002 and is the organizer of the Philippine Toys, Hobbies and Collectibles Convention every year and some toys, comics and anime related events in Manila.

Now a yearly event to grab and enjoy the chance to get the best deals and price from live auctions was organized for Christmas season. This is already the third year and every year this event oozes with awesome surprises!

It is the annual Comic Book Fan Convention in the Philippines founded by Artist's Den. It was first held at U.P. Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman, Quezon City on October 22, 2005. Since then, Filipino fans have annually gathered to meet with country's local talents and exchange common interest in the comic book genre.

There were artists I've seen but I never had the chance to even get their names, I was on a hurry, hehe still gottogotowork then! Others I bumped with I forgot too soon but the following were those I've get to know somehow.
