This is something that I notice a lot in the world of art. People are always claiming styles and ideas as their "own," when in fact, there are probably a handful of other people in the world, at that exact moment saying or thinking the same thing.

In this day and age, it is almost unheard of to make something original... and if you do, you had better lock it up and throw away the key, otherwise someone else IS going to come along and take it, modify it and make it their "own."

Take the telephone for example. You can no longer invent a telephone, it's already been done. The most you can do is improve upon it. Same as with most everything in this world. It is quite rare to invent something brand new.

Lets talk about my line of work for a second. As a makeup artist, sure you can have your own style, but chances are there are a bunch of other makeup artists in this huge world, filled with millions of people, who have the same, if not, a similar style.

Ideas... forget about it, seriously, how many things can you take and put on a models face and call it makeup? It's not makeup, its art. Any look that you create, that you would never wear out, is art in my book. How many pictures have you seen with candy on a models face, how about feathers, grease, dirt, jewels, flowers, etc? Sure I have done stuff like this, and I loved it, it was fun... but I would never claim it as my own. I have had to copy tons of people to get where I am, otherwise I would have never progressed. There is really only one "right" way to shade a models face, unless you want her not to look human. There are a lot of makeup artists who do not shade properly, and I was one of them! But, am I now ripping off other makeup artists, by shading my models faces the same way that they do?

I have heard so many photographers, complain about other photographers, taking their styles and ideas... that I had to sit back and think on it. I mean really... how inventive can you get with lighting, to make it your "own"? How about post processing? Either you edit the shit out of it or you don't... sure there are some that are in the middle... but not many. Contrast... can you create your own? Shadows and Depth of field... how many ways can you use it? Is it really possible to be unlike any other?

The best, and worst, I hear people get their panties all in a bunch over, is image ideas... again, how many ways can you use a snake? What about flowers or snow? Back drops... hmmm there is a lot of different types of fabric, but chances are, yours is probably pretty damn similar to one that has already been used (and it could have been 20 years ago or today).

Lets see... I am still looking for a job. I have cut back on doing makeup, not quit just taking a break to get life on track.

My daughter is starting school soon. I can't believe she is going into the first grade! It's good because now I can focus on getting a day job, but I will really miss having her around all day. People say to me all the time "won't it be nice to have some time to yourself?" The thing is, for 6 years she has been with me so much I don't care about having "time to myself" anymore. When I have "time to myself" I feel lost and board. This is why I want a day job.

So for now I am gonna suck it up and not go to promotions and not spend my time at shoots, cause I need to focus on my family.

I honestly did not write the last journal to try and get someone to do this for me, but I do appreciate it very much.

It's just such a huge crashing blow when you can't even afford something so cheap, thats why I wrote my last journal.

My husband and I are still looking for jobs (makeup isn't cutting it). I am so afraid we are going to loose our apartment, and I can't even afford to try and promote myself to get more work, UGH!!!

Things will get better, but for F*CK sake can that get any god damn worse. My hubby and I are at our all time low right now, and just trying to keep in good spirits about it all is exhausting. When $100 seams like a lot of money, because you have $20 in bank and not enough money to pay bills let alone rent, I am on the verge of having to commit myself.

Sorry to be so negative, but at the moment this is me... hopefully it will change soon.

Well this month has officially sucked in my book, lol. Ok maybe not the whole month, but definitely this past week!

My husband and I have been working for this Chinese restaurant for the past 6 years, and BOTH of us just lost our jobs! In January we just got our first place ever, so needless to say we were pretty nervous. We do have options, and we are not totally broke (although pretty damn close to it, ugh)... our objective now is to keep moving forward, as we can not afford to take any steps back.

I am trying to work on some ideas with

, to make some money this Summer. If anyone has anything that they may need me for, or if you have any ideas that I may have been too frazzled to think of, I am open to just about anything right now.

Let's see where do I begin, lol.

Well, first, back in March I started working for a photographer named Michael Leach. He has ALL kinds of neat ideas, and he hires models and makeup artists to try and bring these ideas to life. So far I have worked with him 3 times... and I just put up the images from our very first shoot (go check them out and let me know what you think!).

Speaking of working with new photographers... I also just recently started working with John Flint

of Earnest photography. We met because... well, to put it nicely... he needed a new makeup artist

! His work had soooo much potential, but the makeup was really throwing it off (I swear some people just don't realize how important good makeup really is!). We have really become great friends, so I am very happy I decided to contact him.

One of the models that John and I have had the great pleasure of working with is Miss Emma

!!! I have wanted to work with her for so long... seriously check out her work, she is just amazing!!! But, not only is she amazing as a model but she is so much fun! So far we have been able to get her out for 2 shoots, and I hope that I get to work with her again sometime!

I also have a image up now, of what Me John and Emma where able to create on our first shoot together!!!

I am trying to think of everything but my mind is kind of a mass of info right now, lol.

Well I spoke of new Photographers... but I actually have some new models in the making as well. I swear I should start my own agency or something, lol.

- First there is Lauren, you can check her out in

gallery, and I will have a couple images soon as well. The images in Johns gallery are from her first shoot EVER, and she did fabulous! I was so impressed with her... and go figure she is my neighbor

- There is another model "Angel" who I will be working with soon, and I am so excited because she will be one of my first Asian models! So far I know we will be colaberating with

- And I have another girl who is stunning, but too busy at the moment. I am gonna push her though, I hate seeing waisted talent, lol.

Last but not least... I have finally decided to have my daughter try out for her first agency. I have really put this off due to my own fears, but it is time, and I do not wish to stand in her way. This is a big step and we are really excited about it. Rose aka "Miss Rosey" is now 6 years old, and looking to build her portfolio... so if you would like to expand your portfolio, and add a beautiful little girl to it... send me a message!

I have a few shoots comming up and I am going to be working on a calendar soon with

I seam to to slowly but steadily climbing up the ladder, but hopefully it will start moving a bit quicker. I am very happy with some of my most recent deviations, I feel my work is really improving. My focus has changed slightly from artistic to more technical, and hopefully that is showing. I do not wish to brush aside the artistic aspects of my work, I am just shifting a bit more towards my technique.

I really appreciate all of the feedback on my last journal entry, and all the fav's on my artwork! I'll be honest I am not sure when I will be adding new images, because I have gotten a bit harder on myself and my work (and the images I recieve). I feel quality is more importaint the quantity these days.

One new thing is that I just joined my first club on this site... Not supprisingly it's the ~Makeup-Club

. They fav'd a few of my images so I decided it may be fun to try it out. If you would like to check out the club I have added their icon below.

Realizing this, now I have a problem, lol... how do I know if the work I choose for my printed portfolio is really what I should be using. I mean I know my opinion matters, but not really when it comes to the big wigs.

As you all know, moving is NOT fun, lol. Stressful, stressful is a good word to use. Well it seams that now we are quite settled, and enjoying life on our own. It is by no means easy... my husband is working 6 days a week, 12 hours a day... so I seldome see him, the only thing that helps is that I work with him, so I get to see him for 4 of those 12 hours.

It's also hard, because we only have one car, aaand since his job includes delivering, I never have it. This means that when I do a shoot, I have to rent a car. Hence the reason that tfp's are just not dooable at this time. If you are willing to compensate for the rental and gas and a kit fee then we will talk

I have done some work since we moved... I did another portfolio day at FNS, held by

. I did my first all guy shoot (can't waite to get those images back

)! And I just did a wedding (thanks to

), and I must say the bride looked stunning!

I have a few more shoots booked, but I am ready to start filling up my callender again.

Also, I want to warn all of you photographers that I have worked with in the past... I am going to start bugging you all for images and prints again

, hey it's part of my job, lol. There is just so much beautiful work out there, that I want to get in my portfolio, and not just for me, but for you guys a s well!

Well, things have actually slowed down too much lately. It's hard to get work, with an economy like this. So... looks like I'm gonna be applying for a job, which unfortunatley will take up some of my free time. I'm going to apply for a part time job, and request weekends off, but if work doesn't pick up... I'll have to go full time and put makeup on the backburner

It's hard when I am trying to make a carrier out of this as opposed to it just being a hobby. I just need to find the right loophole I guess. We shall see...

MONDAYS AND WEDNESDAYS ARE GOOD TOO!!!

Last Saturday I attended

's first Workshop! Even though I attended as the makeup artist, I am pretty observant, and could tell that things went very well!

A workshop is different from a portfolio day, although both are helpful. At a portfolio building day, you meet a ton of people whom you may have never worked with before and you get a ton of experience (whether it be good or bad, you learn from it). At a Workshop, you have an instructor, who teaches you something (depending on what the workshop is for), then takes you though different setups to help you.

I think

was a great instructor, very informative, very helpful and well planned out. Of course with it being his first workshop there were a couple of things that didn't go quite as planned, but all in all he did great!

Three weeks ago, photographer

came down to Massachusetts, with his lovely assistant

for a long two week stay. During those two weeks

and I had decided to colaberate on all but two days out of his stay! But the funny thing is, two weeks turned into almost three!

Wayne is extreamely dedicated to his work, if it interests him he will literally shoot until he drops, or the model does. Sleep isn't really a factor for him, lol. At his shoots he wants everything to go as smooth as possable, and likes everyone to have a good time. Not to mention that his work is truely amazing.

Trish, when she arrived seamed very quiet, and reserved, but I think she was just getting used to being in a new place. This sweetheart turned out to be one of the most amazing girls I have ever met. People, there is nothing fake about her! Not to mention that she is a total riot! I will never forget, and so look forward to more, sessions in the dressing room, laughing or asses of!

I already miss them, and can not waite until we meet again (and I know we will!). The main reason I am writing this though, is because I want both of them to know how much the past 3 weeks have impacted me. I accomplished things that I questioned myself about, and I have so much to show for it (I will be adding new pictures soon). I learned that, you will always find drama wherever you are, but it's not the end of the world. People move on, things get resolved and as long as you stay focused, you can still accopmlish amazing things in the end. Life is too short to let anything stop you.

I have so much I wanted to say, and of course I can not remeber half of it, lol, but oh well I guess you get what I'm trying to say.

To end this I want all of my DA freinds to know that I am taking a little break, but come next week I would like to start setting up more shoots. My policy is a bit different now, please read my MM profile to see what I mean... [link]
