Helix Rodeo is coming up in 2 weeks, and I will be there! I'm totally excited to shoot that rodeo because Im going to use my dads Nikon D300 and a new lens that he bought. So it should be uber fun, and hopefully the weather cooperates!

In recent news, I dont know if anyone here receives The Competitor? I highly doubt it... but anyways, they had a photo contest and I ended up winning. I submitted the photo, Helix: Just like the movies, and it got a full page spread. It was pretty neat. PHOTO: [link]

And as you will see I have been posting a lot of photos of myself competing, which hopefully you guys dont mind. I just think its nice to show you that although I photograph rodeo, I also do it too.

So thats pretty much all I can think of right now... Things have been slow, I've been super busy with school and rodeo, and just havent had time for photography... but I will say Im sure you will get sick of my stuff in a few weekends when Helix rolls around.

So Walla Walla Community College Rodeo is this up coming weekend - March 13th, 14th, & 15th. I drew up in performance friday night so it would be AWESOME if anyone in the surrounding area made it to the rodeo and took some photos! haha. And Im in slack Saturday night.
Anyways, kinda nervous cause its my first perf. in a college rodeo - eek! Oh well.
I have a roping tomorrow here in the Burg.. I joined the KCRC so I will be roping quite a bit, which is good. I need the practice hella.

It was my first points roping and I missed my first calf (barely) but got the 2nd one with a time of 3.4, winning the average in my division! Whoot! Yay me! lol

I havent uploaded any new photography in FOREVER. But thats because I honestly havent taken any! Im in such a slump with my photography.
I mean, my new horse isnt as photogenic as Riata was.. lol so there really is no point to taking photos of him. lol Not to mention, it is winter and he is just a poof ball anyways. And there hasnt been any rodeos.. We have had college practices, but I'm too busy practicing to take photos.. So yea. Sorry guys!
In a lighter note, I'm really coming along with my roping! So far I have roped 10 calves/steer all together! Not too bad for only just beginning! But its fun stuff... I enjoy it. School and rodeo have become my number 1 priority lately.. so obviously the whole photography thing just got pushed back.. and so did the whole boyfriend thing.. and we ended up splitting up yesterday, oh well. Shit happens. It wasnt an ugly break up or anything, we are still good friends and care/like each other.. its just long distance SUCKS... and we are both just super busy.. ho hum. =[

Also, anyone in the Washington/Oregon area who likes to photograph rodeos, you should really check out our college rodeo schedule.. Our next rodeo is March 13th,14th,15th in Walla Walla... SO BE THERE. lol

Rodeo season is back up! Whoot!
I have already taken Riata to my colleges rodeo practices, a few barrel races (as you can tell by the videos I posted in that one DevID I put up), and we have more to come. She is coming along very well in my eyes... Can't believe she turns 5 this April! I feel so old! I've had her since she was a yearling.
Walla Walla Rodeo this weekend (hint hint =sorrelstang ) Sadly, it is indoor, which means, crappy to no pictures at all. We will see... Then we have Lewiston, Ellensburg (our rodeo, which is OUTDOORS, yay!), and Pendleton. So yea.. and then I have the Helix Rodeo. and I guess there will be a bronc futurity here in Eburg as well? I dont know the details about it yet per-say. And then I was invited to go on a CATTLE DRIVE, and a CATTLE BRANDING! Wahoo! About time! haha And I get to bring my own pony which would be awesome for her. So I have a bunch of photography opportunities. So I am excited.
I can't believe I only have a few more days of class left.. next week is finals, then spring break.. and obviously spring quarter follows...
Also, this spring break, I am taking Riata down to Milton-Freewater to have a tune up with Pat Beard, because she has been a lil bronc-y lately, and we have been having saddle problems. So yea. And tomorrow, she is getting shod. She hasnt had shoes on in forever! Nor has she had farrier work for a while, because she has just been chippin and she doesnt grow too fast... But yea, tomorrow should be eventful. Wish me luck

Also... notice the song I am listening to.... LISTEN TO IT. It is GOOD. It is not that one rap song.. something totally different and FUN. So give it a shot.. it sounds slow in the beginning, but it speeds up real fast. Love it! Also Give It Up by Pepper is a fun song

And I want a new lens. Like, you guys have no idea.. lol I want a new one SO bad. A nice Nikkor 2.8f 300mm? Something FAST, and has a good zoom. My pictures would turn out so much better... and it'd make me really happy... But gooolllyyy.... they are SO expensive! I wish there were people out there that would sponsor photographers..like companies do with bull riders, barrel racers etc. That'd be awesome.. but uh.. well I suppose that's what a newspaper or magazine does or something.. BUT STILL. It would be neat if there was something like that... and it'd be even cooler if I was a candidate for it. Hell, I wouldn't mind being a walking billboard!

I only took pics one day because it was FREEZING and frankly, I did not want to stand out there in the freezing wind... But I took about 300 I think or more. So keep you're eyes open for that because I did get some neat shots if I say so myself. I didnt compete this time because I dont have Riata up with me... but I am really thinkin about getting her this weekend cause one of my friends boards her horse at this one place that is supposivly really nice and cheap. So I'm gonna check that out.. I'm excited...


All in all... I'm enjoying college. I'm havin a blast... the homework sucks... but that's to be expected.

Fair:

I made out like a bandit. I got blues on all of 4 of my photos, and you get $20 for each blue ribbon. So that's nice... $80!! The picture of Riata yawning, "You Make Me Bored" was like, everybodys favorite.. lol it also won our fair theme award, "Barn to be wild". And it was also runner up for best in show. I didn't win it though because supposivly, my matte board was just too flemsy? Uh okay whatever. lol. But yea.

Other:

Less than 2 weeks and I am out in the college world.. I'm scared. But also, less than 2 weeks I'm gonna be 18! wahoo! And ON my birthday, I am gonna ride a bull! For the past month, I have been sitting on some bulls in the chute and I am just itchin to ride one now! And I will! The day before I leave for college, I am riding a damn bull. I'll try to get pics/and or a video.

Monday is the Ellensburg rodeo... Still havnt bought my tickets yet.. uhgg I'm such a procrastinator. I will take pics I suppose.. but they are gonna suck cause I dont have a decent lense... I will have bad seats.. and I'll probably not even try that hard. Whatever. But hopefully, I can meet *sorrelstang !! Who should give me her cell phone number or something! *hint hint*

Hmmm.. yea. Don't know what else to say. I havn't really taken pictures of much... lol Like, I have pictures from boat races that were over a month ago that I havnt even looked at. In other news... Jenna ( ~elementofsuprize ) flew to Washington to visit me for a few weeks... So I am sure she will eventually put photos up from her trip... so check out her gallery... she's an amazing artist btw, so I guarantee you will like her stuff.

Uhm, a bunch of rodeos and fairs are coming up... maybe I can hit a few. Like Puyallup. That'd be fun. But I will definitely be going to my local fair and rodeo and then to Ellensburg [every labor day weekend]... Maybe *sorrelstang can meet up with me there and totally kick my ass at taking rodeo photos. But also maybe since we are two innocent looking girls, we can wriggle our way into the back or something! While I'm there, I'm sure I will walk around my college, which is luckily right across the street from Ellensburg fairgrounds.. haha.

But the end of August/ beginning of September is a busy time. Not to mention my birthday which is Sept. 13th [hint hint to anyone.. haha ) Labor day weekend is Eburg...Then on the 12th I'm opening up a Roth IRA... and then on the 14th is move in day at college. Anyhoo... Incase anyone was wondering...the whole boy situation is not a situation anymore...lol so that's good...

I pocketed $500 from that. Then my computer apps teacher bought one of my photos, Hells Fury, another $60. Then I don't know if I meantioned this, but one of my photos, Cowboy Prayers, won the Judges Choice Award for the 2007 ESD123 Regional High School Art Show. And the lady that runs our district bought it from me for another $60. Then my horse farrier wants to buy that large charcoal drawing, The Ride Home, for his soon to be wife... $80. And speaking of him, he hired me to take photos at his wedding next Friday in Pendleton. I'm charging $300 for time, expenses to drive to Pendleton, and for the CDs of photos I am giving them. They will then pick out which ones they like, and if I want to do anything to them in Photoshop... and then I will order them prints... So I am making bank on my photography these days... what is that, $1000?? Dayum. Not too bad for a 17 y/o who just graduated from High School...if I say so myself. Also, my farrier is going to introduce me to Rowdy Berry, a popular rodeo clown. He has his own ranch which does cattle drives, branding, etc. And my farrier thinks Rowdy would welcome me out to photograph it. So that would be the best experience EVER. I've always wanted to do something like that. Ahhhh it gets me so excited just thinking about it! But he also goes down to Vegas every year for the NFR and PBR... so maybe he can hook me up or something... He is MY connection! So I'm gonna bug the heck out of my farrier to get me these connections which I NEED. lol

I'm still in the process of putting the Helix Rodeo pictures through PS... It takes a bunch of time. I've only done about 400 photos... and I have a lil less than 500 left to do. Uhg.

Other than that. Summer is going just fine and dandy. How is everyone else? Anything exciting going on??

I just literally came back from buying a new camera! The Nikon D80. I was using a D50 before, but really, thats my folks camera. They said I could have it, but I decided to upgrade. So I did! I was eyeballing the Nikon D200, but that is just SO advanced and well, I just don't think I need something of that quality when I go off to college. I have also been looking at buying a new lense... One in specific, the Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8... it's to drool for.. but also it's price is over 2k. So I am going to pass on that until I am OUT of college and really start my career or something. But anyways. Smile. Cause I got a newer and better-er camera.

And it's just bad, because I definitely do not want anything between me and my friend, and I dont want A to go ballistic when and if he found out I like L aswell... since that is his bestfriends little brother. Omg.. it's like a friggen love octagon. Jeezass.

Also, rodeo season is coming.. woohoo! Helix rodeo is next month, and that's where I got some pretty nice photos of the rough stock. So lets hope I get can even BETTER ones. We will see.

Tonight, I'm going to a barrel race. Not to compete nor photograph. But I'm taking Riata and we're just gonna sit around and watch. SO she can get use to the sounds, smells, and all the comotion. So that should be exciting... Speaking of which, my trainer is kicking it up a notch with us. She wants us to be ready for college rodeo, and that takes alot of work. So we're workin really hard. But the filly should do fine. She seems to enjoy the sport of barrel racing.

But yea. I entered "Cowboy Prayers" into an art show, and it won the judges choice awards, and is now going to state in Olympia. So if anyone lives there or near there, check out the art show and you will see my photo there! Let's hope it wins, because that means I get $200! And that would be SO nice. I also just made 8 prints, and have 2 drawings ready for a scholarship. It's due Friday.. eek. And nothing is matted!

Well I will stop rambling. But that is what is current with my life. lol Oh other than yearbook being hectic, it's pretty good here. Oh yea, for the scholarship thingy, I drew a new drawing. It's pretty itneresting. It's one of my own photos I used as a reference. I will try to get it up one of these days...

You and aswell as many others are using my copyrighted photos for your game on Horseland. I asked the admin of HL to remove the photos, not to threaten of banning you.
Manipulating copyrighted photos )and definitely not giving credit to the photographer) is called copyright infringement, and you CAN be fined for it, even if it IS just on a petty little horse SIM game.
Now I am asking you to please remove the following photos (or to clearly give me credit for the photos by writing (C) Mackenzie Williams), as all of these photos are copywritten, and you never asked to use them nor gave me credit for my photos.

Most of the photo's i find, I just browse the net and if I see one that I think would look good for a manipulated image I save it and use it when I think necessary. I'd never really thought about the photo's I use are actually copyrighted.
In the future i'll refrain from using any of the horse pictures I have saved (because I can't remember where they came from) and I'll be extremely cautious of a copyright for any other photo's I find. I'll also remove those two pictures.

Riley has been sick.. but he has been getting better.. until Saturday... he just really dropped... then today, we took him to WSU.. I made a 3 hour drive, 2, if that tells you how fast I was going...

I really do not know how to set a camera to do well during night. I'm in yearbook, and I WANT to get excellent football pictures(which sadly is at night).
I just don't know what shutter speed I should have it at or what. I have a flash cube, 2, to be exact. One only goes 85mm and the other goes 200mm I think..??
I have 2 lenses.. a 200mm and a 400mm. I'd really like to use the 400mm, but I think that would just increase the chances of blurring photos!?

I am happy, since these people are perfect, but a friend just told me she saw Ebony(my prev. horse) at the Hermiston horse sale. What a great thing to hear to end a great day.
When we got home, Riata was nickering, and just trying to see where Rocket was.. She wouldn't even pay much attention to me. If I moved, she would follow, but just stand by me, thats it, still focusing on the trailer.
So I put the halter on her and walked her up to show her that Rocket isn't here. I also loaded her up a few times, because we have been having trailer issues. But she did very well.

But on a brighter note. I was able to drive the trailer home(well, drop off my mom) then me and my dad drove it around, just practicing with it. And when we came home, I got to back it into the drive way. And let's just say, our drive way is a PAIN, and it's very hard, even for my dad who does very well with the truck and trailer. Well my first try I swing it right into the driveway perfectly, and backed it in to the side of the house! I did very well I think!

But anyways. I also sold the gal Rockets boots, and gave her 2 halters, and his raggedy fly mask. I teared up a little bit there, on and off. But that is just because I love Rocket. And what made it a little worse was her dad walked over to me and put his arm around me and started crying with me. I mean, a really old guy, very knowledgable, is crying with me because he knows how much I love Rocket. And he kept re-assuring me he is going to be fine, and very well taken care of.

This is the BEST home I could possibly ask for. It's a family home, which is EXACTLY what I wanted, and plus, they are local, and I can visit him and the sort.

Why is this site not shut down? There is SO much illegal activity going on there, such as stealing copyrighted pictures!

I am now just starting up a freaking business, and I do not want some stupid person taking my freaking pictures. Especially since they had a COPYRIGHT on them, which she OBVIOUSLY erased!
I messaged her about 3 times, saying to take it off NOW, or talk with authorities LATER. I also reported it to HL staff aswell. If this person, and CLUB does not get shut down or in trouble, I will make sure this idiotic site DOES!!

I only joined to see who was stealing my pictures, I'm not a user..

But I fucking hate that site. Always have, always will. It needs to be SHUT DOWN!!!

I just made $70 selling my rodeo prints just to ONE person!!
And also, the rodeo that I actually took the pics at, I emailed the president of the rodeo, and told him I had pictures. He gave me his # to talk about them to him. And I said I'd donate them. And he said he'd give me free tickets and posters and stuff. Awesome stuff!
But yea. Just a tad excited.
Also, other people want prints too, so this is exciting!

People are asking me to do their senior pictures this year. I'm charging hardly anything, but mostly just so they can spread the word.
I'm only asking $25 for a CD full of pictures of whatever the person wants pretty much. And so far, the word has spread like wild fire.

ALSO- I'm gonna do a wedding sometime in August! Do you know how much they pay photographers at weddings..?? ALOT!!
