Let me restate that: I hate the word "myself," and I hate the way so many people here misuse it.
Vive la France

It's been a while since I cried watching the Oscars, but when Forest Whitaker read the name Marion Cotillard last night I leapt out of my seat with excitement and disbelief, clapping my hands and jumping up and down for joy. And yes, before she reached the stage my whooping had turned to tears. Tears of joy for a tremendous performance, for the honest reaction of an extremely talented actress, and for a country which still makes some of the finest cinema in the world.

I remember falling in love with her long ago in a horribly mainstream (although very enjoyable) movie called "Taxi." I must admit that at that time it was her looks and not her acting which won me over, but hey. Somewhere in my negatives I have a picture of her that I took at a party before I knew who she was (1995). Also at that party (and in those negatives) were Virginie Ledoyen (pre The Beach), Vanessa Paradis (pre Depp), and Clotilde Courau (pre-royalty and also pre La Mome), so I never even tried to talk to her. Dommage.

I was fortunate enough to have been in Paris when La Mome opened and it totally blew me away. I went back and saw it three times under the assumption that it would never make it to The States. I was never happier to be wrong than I was when it opened in Seattle, and I've never thought so highly of the Academy as I did last night.

Vive l'Academie, vive la France, et vive Marion Cotillard!

Yes, the internet is everywhere in the third world, but it still hasn't made it to the boonies anywhere. I know, because I've just returned from beoing out in the middle of nowhere on 4 different continents. The internet cafes of Paris never looked so good. It'll still be a few weeks before I'm back in Seattle, but I'm really looking forward to the next couple of weeks in Paris' Buci market.

Sick Of The Old

I don't know about the rest of you, but I was getting really sick of looking at my 2-year-old journal entry everytime I came to my home page.

No changes, still trying to fit 26 hours into 24 hour days and somehow occasionally doing it (some sort of quantum physics that's beyond me but nevertheless seems to work).

I'm thankful for all of the wonderful friends I've met here, and for the unbelievably large number of acquaintances. I'm saddened that over the last few years I've actually lost two of them. Life and death does happen on our little spaceship which we call DA.

I'm still wary of posting much of my work here, but my website is so overfull I imagine it won't be too long before I warm up to posting more here.

Peace out all
