So I'm taking a term off from Art Center to do an internship at MFactor so I can get better at motion design. I'm slowly learning, and hoping to learn more before my 4 months are up.

The commute is hellish, an hour each way, give or take.

I was hoping I'd have more time to do my own artwork (I really want to do a motion piece or redo an old one), but I don't know--I'm at work 8-10 hours a day and drive for 2. I'll suppose I'll try on weekends now that those are freed up if I don't get too lazy.

Seriously, the only thing I want after a day of work is to hang out with my friends. I hate being holed up all day long; it makes me feel antsy. I SHOULD be working on art, but sometimes I'm too worn out.

Dang. I really wish I had more time to spend on Deviant Art. I'm periodically CHECKING it at work...but I don't comment or anything because I have to be discreet about it. Otherwise, I'd comment on all the art I find cool, reply to any comments that people have written, and to the notes in my inbox in a timely manner, and vote in all the contests I want to vote in. I'm almost like a lurker except I post art.

Some people send thank-you notes for faves. Instead of a note, I like to return the favor by going through people's galleries and comment on the things I like. I find it more personal than "Thanks for the fav!" But I just don't have the time...so I end up not thanking anyone at all, which is a shame, because I am TRULY 100% THANKFUL, YOU HAVE NO IDEA. A +fav or +watch or even just a comment totally makes my day and I appreciate it more than you know, even though I often don't have the time or energy to show it. As a fairly *new* artist here...I feel kind of tentative about showing my work. I'm a big chicken, really.

I'm becoming more comfortable with showing my stuff in public, leaving it open to critique, and taking the criticism in stride. I'm also finding other artists to "compete" with. Basically...I want to raise the bar for myself more and more and more. I know good art when I see it...and I want to do that.

I've only used DA for a few months...and already I feel like I've grown a lot. I've experimented with a ton of styles that I was too lazy to try before and learned a lot just by looking at other artists' work.

I hope to grow more.

I notice a lot of the anime artists around DA use Open Canvas and Painter. I've never used them, but from what I can tell, they are either programs that grant the artist ULTIMATE POWER THAT INSTILLS FEAR IN THE HEARTS OF OTHERS...or the artists who use them are just...bloody awesome. *shakes head in awe*

I wonder if they make lineart or coloring easier than in Photoshop...or if I just have very poor control. Curse my Parkinson's! (Okay, not really.) I spend hours upon hours just *tweaking* things to my taste because my stuff always starts out so sloppy. I certainly HOPE the programs make lineart and coloring easier. ;b
Gonna get a hold of them somehow and give 'em a shot soon.

I not even sure how this journal thingy works. I just know that I'm *supposed* to put these club icons somewhere...and I *think* this is how I do it.

I'm brand-spanking new to Deviant Art...and mostly joined to look for Full Metal Alchemist-related artwork. I'm finding it really inspirational. Seeing all the great stuff here makes me want to set the bar for myself higher and higher, because I don't draw enough, y'know?

I actually don't normally draw in an anime-style, but for now I'm finding that FMA makes for good subject matter since it's fresh in my mind and I'm familiar with the characters, visually and personality-wise. (Draw what you know, I say.) To say the very least, I like that anime a LOT. My favorite characters are Ed and Envy...but not *together*. They're hot. XD!

So, one FMA deviation so far. Hopefully more to come if I don't turn into a lazy-ass mofo.
