One manic camping trip later and I'm laid up in bed with a stupid stomach bug. It always seems to be the way, a fantastic trip ruined by my broken down old heap of a body. However, this shall not turn into a rant as WINGS itself was an amazing experience which I recommend any member of Guiding or Scouting anywhere in the world try and take part in next time it comes around in 2014.

So, I've nearly made it through my year as a trainee researcher with the British Heart Foundation. I'd like to say that it means I'll have more time to work on my art and literature but the only writing I shall be doing is my dissertation for my final year of uni. I'm hoping it won't take long to write but it is an awful lot of data to correlate and translate into good old English for my lecturers to read. But once that's done I shall be making time to get on with some projects I've been working on for far too long, and some which I have wanted to start but never really got round to.

Woo! Got my expo tickets ordered for me today so now looking forward to May. All I have to do now is finish my half sort of started, half sort of never considered the implications costume. After successfully being able to play Haruhi Suzumiya last October and Ichigo Momomiya last May, I'm stepping up the gear a little and going as Fey Valentine... So wish me luck... Not only with completing the costume but reminding myself that I won't look like a ten-tonne heffa once I put it on and strut my funky white boots down to the ExCel centre from my hotel on the Saturday morning!

P.S. If anyone out there is going to MCM Expo in May let me know and we could have a mini dev-meet!

Well... It's been a while since I've updated this journal and it feels like I've abandoned my art recently. Unfortunately, at this point in my developing career there is very little free time for me to dedicate to hobbies. I don't want this to degenerate into a rant but I just want people to know that I am still alive! (Only just though as working seven days a week has nearly killed me.)

I'm currently working on the next chapter of Rogues in which we find out the fate of Allwyn and Juuni after the changeling ambush. In tandem with the literature, I am aiming to have a collection of art pieces of the characters and scenes as we progress. In terms of how these artworks come about, I'm open for trades at the moment if anyone wants any form of work, be it literary, traditional art or photography I'll be happy to discuss trades with anyone who wishes to help me build up my rogues project.

Hopefully I'll have some more deviations for you all soon!

Many people have an idea of what they think art really is. Maybe it's the traditional way of capturing an image using your hands, or the process of painting a picture with words, maybe even the perfectly lit still photograph of a new life. Maybe it's none of these, I had my own idea of art, I always thought of art as something one could use to portray how they are feeling at the time the piece was created, a true show of character through a different eye. Well, at least that was my opinion until this week. In the last few days I have started my research into cardiac arrhythmias and seen just how profound the human body really can be. I've watched heart cells conduct electrical impulses through a lens and seen pictures of the very amino acids which keep our hearts beating. This experience has truly redefined how I look at art, the body's ability to create something so specialised and unique is truly amazing and therefore is my latest addition to what I think a piece of art really is.

So, I've just started my final term in my second year at university. Lack of free time and mountains of uni work have kept me away from my writing and photography and I hope that as my exams come and go I will finally have some more time to create stuffs to go here on dA. The next year should be interesting as i have a years placement with the British Heart Foundation looking at potential treatments for heart disease, so if I'm quiet with deviations, it's because I'm being a good little scientist and concentrating on my research...

This is a special journal entry promoting my next venture in helping charities.

Many of the deviants here from the UK will probably have heard of Monkey World, Ape Rescue Centre in Dorset, be it through the TV show on Channel 5 (originally on ITV) or through the press coverage of the unexpected death one of it's co-founders, Jim Cronin, last year. For those of you that don't know here's a brief history of the park and it's work...

Monkey World was set up in 1987 by Jim and Alison Cronin to provide abused Spanish beach chimps with a permanent, stable home. Today Monkey World works in conjunction with foreign governments from all over the world to stop the illegal smuggling of apes out of Africa and Asia. At the park visitors can see more than 150 primates of 15 different species.

There are currently 56 chimpanzees at Monkey World, which makes it the largest group outside Africa. Monkey World has rescued chimps from Spain, Greece, France, England, Austria, The Netherlands, Israel, Cyprus, Dubai and Taiwan where they were being used and/or abused in laboratories, as exotic pets, as photographerÂs props, or as circus animals. Their exact histories vary, but the majority of them share part of the same story. Born in Africa chimps are taken from their family groups as youngsters. Poaching expeditions for bush meat and the capture of young animals results in the slaughter of adults as they try and defend their babies and extended family. It is estimated that the removal of one infant will result in the death of up to ten other chimpanzees. The young animals are smuggled out of Africa and then sold illegally abroad.

In the case of Spanish beach chimps, they are dressed up in human clothes and worked in tourist resorts, often for 16 hours per day as a photographerÂs prop. When the chimpanzees reach 4 or 5 years of age they become uncontrollable and are usually killed in order to be replaced with a new baby chimp. Some photographers will try and control their chimps by beating them and pulling their teeth out and/or putting them on drugs. Monkey World in co-operation with Spanish authorities confiscates all known beach chimpanzees. New arrivals are given a full medical check and such examinations often reveal serious injuries such as machete wounds and broken bones. Many of the chimps come to us addicted to drugs. Recovery and rehabilitation is a lengthy process with many of the animals suffering from malnutrition and anaemia.

Ok, so I've been pretty lapse on uploading stuff recently but uni's been pretty tough and finding five minutes to myself often proves difficult and on my days off all I want to do is sleep or spend them with my boyfirend if he can make the journey down to come see me.
I know the festive season is fast approaching and I was hoping to use a different emotion in terms of writing but alas, the darker stuff is far easier to write!

I should be going back home for christmas soon which will be nice as I havn't seen my family in a month or so now and I miss them more this year than I did last year, there's something about moving out and not having a room at home anymore which can just pull you apart inside.

My story for Allwyn and Juuni is now progressing further than I thought it would be. Many thanks to all the people who've read it and to Martyn for adding it to his favourites! Now the story is more established I'd like to have some illustrations to go alongside the text. I've tried to draw something myself but just can't get it right. So, I've been on dA for over a year now and slowly the gallery of Gem is increasing. I'm still working on the medium I really want to concentrate on. I love my photography but then I still like to pick up a pencil and doodle. We'll see what this next year brings as I continue to settle into uni and really start my degree work.

Hopefully I'll still have time for art.

So it's christmas and everything is lovely, my shopping's done, presents are wrapped, uni work's almost up to date and I even have my train tickets ready to go home this weekend.

Moany Part...

Shame a job isn't in that equation. Unfortunatley my contract of employment means nothing to my old store of Orange retail who have decided that I cannot transfer back to the store that originally employed me, that I worked at for four months before moving to Cardiff due to a conflict of interests. Which I would understand if the conflict was still there! As it isn't I'm failing to understand why I cannot have my job over christmas to earn some much needed money before the new term starts in January... As it stands I'm going to have to put in so much overtime when I get back to uni in january I'm not going to have time to sleep if I wish to keep up with the work I have to do.

On the brighter side, three weeks out of a shop may mean more chance to go out and take pictures. So possibility of new deviations soon...

Saw The Magic Numbers on thursday. Was hoping to get some more pictures to upload but my camera threw a hissy fit with the lighting effects at the gig and decided not to take any pictures that were in focus, ah well, better luck next time I guess.

I mean, I have a fiance, work's fine, uni's going well and I'm surviving on my own just fine. Then why is the male species of the human race out to make my life a living hell? I just don't understand, one minute everything's fine then the next there's accusations flying everywhere about things people have said/done, this that and the other and it's driving me to the point of tears.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder...

I've been pondering this popular phrase for some time now and I've decided I don't agree. Absence makes hearts ache, eyes bleed and feelings explode into random outbursts of emotion at the worst possible time.

I know it all sounds very melodramatic but that's how I feel right now. Living away at university should be getting easier each week but somehow I'm finding it more and more difficult to cope without these random outbursts of emotion. It doesn't help that when people come to visit they have to go far too quickly and I feel the customary pang of emptiness everytime I see someone walk out with their bags or see their coach pull away before heading back to my empty room in the concrete tower that is my dorm.

Anyway, enough depressing thoughts.

Hopefully I'll find my sketchbook soon and some more submissions will appear.

Other than that, the life of a shadow is pretty quiet and mundane.

Have been a bit quiet recently due to exams and mountains of Sixth Form work. And to top it all off last week served up an extra slice of humiliation in the form of exam results. After putting in huor upon hour of revision time I still managed to screw up the one important thing I have to do this year... Get into university

Ah well, that's done now and I'm alerady studying up for the retakes so work will be veray sparse for the next few monthes. Hopefully after the exams I'll have some sketches to go on here as I've been pining for the days when I used to do art and decided to get myself a sketchbook which is gradually filling up...

So watch this space, hopefully I won't dissapoint...

As a photographer rather than an artist, posting a drawing was a very scary experience. This particular drawing (entitled Lexie) isn't without faults...
For starters I have a lack of ability to draw hands, this is my first drawing where the character doesn't have their hands behind their backs.

(Only just managed to get a C in GCSE art and didn't take it to A Level so I'm not that good with a pencil.)
Got a camera over the holidays but need to get it repaired so my digital will have to do for now, reverting back to film as I can't use my digital camera to save my life! Hopefully I'll get some good pictures out of it when I go to Cardiff in a few weeks...

Christmas truly feels like it should this year, it's only taken me eighteen years to get the hang of it but at least I got there eventually. I've found true christmas in the fact that two of my friends will be coming home from very separate parts of the country and my boyfriend will soon be back from Swansea.
Sounds cheesy but to top off all this chrastmassy feeling I found an old friend, very nice,
