City Of Shadows – Early 20th Century Police Photography, Sydney, Australia

In late 1970s, several tons of negatives were saved from a flooded police warehouse in Lidcombe, a suburb of Western Sydney by Peter Doyle, a curator at the Justice & Police Museum, author of crime stories. For three years Doyle studied hundreds of thousands of prints and arranged them in chronological order, reconstructed the stories of the people shown in them and searched for the names of the photographers.
The mug shots of Sydney’s thieves, frauds, prostitutes, murderers, drug traffickers, procurers, fences or gamblers were taken in the years 1912 to 1948. The mystery around the mug shots that will never be solved is the photographers’ identity. No one knows who the police photographs of 1912-1930 were taken by. Perhaps there was only one photographer, or maybe more.

and i remember many more. it's a shame that since they left deviantart and left no mark in any hall of fame. it's also a shame that i lost touch with their work because i didn't have time to look at 20 different web pages instead of having it all in one place.

i must confess: when i say that coxi is my favourite photographer (among others), i really mean it.

so i don't like the idea that we should forget great photographers who are no longer appretiated by 'the authorities' and act like they (and, most importantly, their work) never existed.

plans (if it works): i wan't to submit scanned analogue photos from last 2 years, mostly street photography but also different stuff; than probably some scans from my trip to serbia, montenegro and bosnia. meanwhile i'll try to submit digital photos i've taken during holidays.

as it can be seen, after a long break i've submitted some new photos. i have also checked almost all of the messages i received, and everything seems to be back on track.
this weekend i've been on a trip to warsaw, the capital of my beloved country, mainly to see Sting live, and of course to take photos. some of them are already here, and there are more to come. i have also some manchester photos that are waiting to be submitted, i'll deal with them over time .
this saturday i'm moving to cracow to study law, which is good because it's an awsome place to photograph.
