Hey Everybody!

It's been a while since my last journal entry, (just realized I only had one journal post for all of 2008!) so I thought I'd drop by and update this bad boy.

Things are going decently for me at the moment. I'm still doing the art thing at Highwire, but I'm currently looking to go back to school soon as well so I can gear my future career towards the kinds of creative projects that leave me feeling a bit more...fulfilled. I'm just thankful to have a job in these uncertain times though, honestly.

On the deviation side of things, I know my gallery suffered a serious dry-spell in '08. There's a number of excuses for this (some BS, some legitimate), but I just want to let you all know that it wasn't due a lack of drawing so much as a lack of FINISHING that kept art from going up. I've still been drawing some nifty stuff, just nothing that really made it through to completion. I've resolved to correct this for '09, so I'm going to attempt to post at LEAST one to two deviations a month, and hopefully more

Finally, I just wanted to say thanks again to everyone who still stops by to check out this place. I love you all and appreciate your criticism and encouragement! I've had this gallery now for nearly 5 years and it still gives me motivation just to hear what you have to say

...ever the optimist and ready for change ( yes, I voted Obama )

-James

Hey all. It's been around 6 months since my last journal post, so I thought I'd give an update to assure you all I'm still living.

Anywho, I've been getting a lot of questions about the shirts. Yeah, I know the links are dead now. Due to the way Amazon works, I was limited to the amount of time I could keep them up. Sadly, in that short time span, nobody really gave them notice and continuing to list them would have eventually outweighed the cost of selling them. I still have them though, so if anybody knows of a better way to build a storefront, I'm all ears!

In other news, things have been going pretty well for me career-wise. Been doing a lot of overtime work at my job. The company I work for just over went new management and I received a raise along with tons more creative freedom. We'll have a website up soon with some of the samples I've designed as well as some pics of me doing the art thing. The best part of it all is they gave me a bad-ass G5 Quad with killer specs to take home for personal use. This means I'll be able to dabble in those processor-intensive tasks like photoshop-painting and 3D applications without slowdown (wahoo!)

All in all, 08's looking offer tons of opportunity for productivity! Stay tuned

On a side note, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who still comes around here and throws down their two cents. I feel a lot of gratitude towards you guys. I know I go through dry spells sometimes, so thanks again for sticking around

Well, Silver Sanctum Design is finally up and running and I am now carrying a small inventory of screen printed tees!

Currently, the waters are being tested for how to best sell these online. I'm using eBay at the moment for the sake of convenience, and should be able to have a fully decked-out eBay store going here soon once I get enough positive feedback.

As a small tester, I'm offering the Armored Angel, screened in white on black girl tees! They only come in small, medium, and large at the moment. Should these do well, more varieties will become available online shortly!

They're for sale: here!

Also, the 7th Street Gifts art fair has come and gone. If you want to see shots of my booth as well as other event madness, check it out here!

So who wants to buy some clothes?

I'm officially starting my own line of apparel. As August comes to a close, Silver Sanctum Design will be up and running. My primary product to push will be vintage-style tees featuring screen-printed art from this gallery!

Ever wanted a tee of a distressed Armored Angel? How about some Marionette action? Soon I'll be set up and ready to take orders. I'll only be able to start with a select few imprints though, so what I'd really like is some input on what you guys would like to see as far as specific designs and colors. If you have any ideas at all, feel free to give me some input!

I'll have a booth set up at the Seventh Street Gifts street fest in Newport Kentucky on Sept.23rd, selling shirts and doing some freelance doodling on the side, so if you're in the neighborhood and wanna say hello, feel free to stop on by!
I've been spending a lot of time with friends recently, kinda expanding myself socially and trying to take control of some personal issues that needed to be resolved. Hence, very few updates. I'd like to do more tribal art again though soon as well as get back into speed painting.

... Although you'd never know it by how cold it still is here in IN.

First, some status updates. I've got some new art that should be coming down the pipe here in the next few months. Sadly, I've been doing a lot of loose, unfinished practice stuff recently. Mostly personal projects, a lot of photo reference studies lately, some pen work+marker work and am looking into some canvas painting (which it turns out, can be rather pricey) But I wanna get something done here for VOID's annual SDT match. Character's all done, just need to color this baby.

The main reason for this new entry though is more for a survey. I'm planning on retooling my old shitty site (The Silver Sanctum) into a type of freelance tribal art store. I'd set up a payment system via Paypal and do commissions through the sanctum as opposed to using it as merely a gallery. Also, (since I work at a screen print shop for god sakes) I could offer to sell shirts of the art as well. Most likely a 12 piece minimum since that's what we go by at the office. This store would pretty much be restricted to tribal-only art at the moment, but could expand to general art commissions in the future.

What do you think about that? Would anybody out there be interested?

Well, I said I'd post a bit about what's been going on in my personal life before the year's end, so I guess now is the time.

Earlier this month, I interviewed with Reebok for a graphic artist position. About four days later, they called me back telling me I got the job. Of course, you can imagine how flabbergasted I was O_O . So anywho, I get my shit together and prepare to tell my boss at my other job (We're pretty much a printing place like Reebok only smaller and do personal orders too) I'm leaving. When I do, he makes me an offer I can't refuse... nearly double the pay (more than reebok's offer) and he'll help me get a new car. Crazy shit.... put me in quite a pickle too. Do I stay where I am and make more cash, or do I move up into the corporate world and get to bragging rights of working for a company everybody recognizes?

......

I mulled over it for a while, and hopefully made the right decision. I decided to stay at my current job (Cherry-Vale) and pass the opportunity by. Stupid, I know, but I have to go with what best suits my needs. T-Shirt art's not really my thing, I'm just using it to get by at the moment. This way, I can make some nice money and save up to go to a nice school within the year to focus on the type of art I ENJOY instead of diving head first into a profession I'd rather not be consumed by.

That's what's been going on with me this December. Far too unreal for me to think about all at once, that's for sure. Time will tell if I made the right choice

Anywho, hope you all had a happy holidays and have a fantastic new year!

Yeah, I know. I've been neglecting this account recently. Stuff's been a little hectic with my personal life and work situation lately, though that's no excuse. Regardless of that I've still been drawing quite a bit (even been trying out some new media) my access to the net's just been less frequent.

Just wanted to say thanks to all the people who've still been stopping by despite the lack of frequent activity. I've received more hits here than I ever thought I could get ( DA just informed me the General Gault pic just received it's 1000th veiw O_o) And I feel like I've been letting you down recently with these sparse submissions. Again, thanks for the watches and faves, everybody

New Void battles should be up a little while after the Speed Death Tourny over at Entervoid.com kicks off, plus I'm getting some early ideas thrown together for a short little personal comic starring that Ferro character so we'll see how that progresses.

Till next time

When '04 was on the verge, I had a feeling it'd be a year of big changes. Not just for myself, but for everyone in general. Now that it's over with, I think most of us can say that it was, even though it went by in a flash.

Looking at '05 the same way though.... things seem in bad shape. Not as much for me, but on a more global scale. The hostility rising throughout the world, the twisted morality of the younger generation of this country, and just the utter.... superficiality (is that a word?) and ignorance being spread from modern pop-culture. Can't say it's motivational to watch all that's creative, expressive and artistic being spat on and disregarded, being replaced by hype, cheap thrills and negativity. That tied in with the results of the election.... just gives me a really bleak outlook on the future of myself, friends, and family.

In all honesty, we need another Renaissance.

I guess these feelings, coupled with the time being consumed by my job have been the main reason for less and less art showing up in the gallery. But I'm going to work hard this year to push myself to a new artistic level. I feel I improved a bit in 2004 and I want to keep that drive going.

Had a pretty entertaining experience for the most part. Got to gawk at all the funky people in costumes and hang with some of the coolest comic artists you'll ever meet, the folks from VOID. I also managed to make a few bucks selling stuff, which is pretty satisfying to say the least, haha.
We all probably would have sold more had there been more general artistic appreciation there instead of the highly toxic levels of fanboyisim we were exposed to (that can be lethal you know X_X ) But hopefully I'll be able to meet with em again at Wizard World an get down to some serious business.

Well, may's coming up soon and it looks like things might get a bit hectic. Been on the prowel for work and it looks pretty likely that I'll finally get some in the coming weeks. The good news, MONEY FOR ME. The bad news, I might not be posting as much art as before, depends on what hours I can negotiate.

In OTHER news, my robotic creation SHREDD is the offical winner of entervoid.com's 3rd sequencial art tournement, the Speed Death Tournement. Meaning the character is the ONLY one in the tourny who didn't perish, so expect more from our old ginsu-limbed friend some time in the future (with a new look implimented, no doubt).

ALSO, I'll be showing my sorry face at Chicago's AnimeCentral (or ACEN) in May. Plan on meeting up with the folks from VOID and possibly selling some artwork (so if you you're in chicago, have some cash, and like your art REALLY scribbly, I'm you man!)

So anywho.... yeah, busy busy. But all in all, should prove interesting ^_^

Well, 2003's rounding to a close and things seem pretty uncertian for me at the moment. I guess I can't complain about the year overall. School seemed to go off without a hitch, though chances are I won't be returning for a while cause of lack of funding. Guess it's time for me to get off my ass and get me one of those.... um...whatddaya call em.... job... things
Art-wise I've been feeling kinda drained, as a few friends who frequent the boards I visit might have noticed, I haven't posted much lately. The only exception being my fights at entervoid.com wich I'm quite proud of, considering their some of my first comics and fight scenes. Hopefully once I get enough experience under my belt, I can start working on that manga idea I've been wanting to do for so long. It's good practice to be sure.
On a side note, I need to get more of a social life going. Went to a friend's birthday a month ago and almost got rundown by some chicks I know in a yellow Focus, so that's always fun. Feel like all I do is draw and go to school though, now one of those is gone. Times like this makes me wish I had a nice close lady friend to talk with. Being single blows....

.... Ah well, got another year for that
