Life

Well its been a while since I did one of these puppies.. lots has happened in the nearly two years since my last real journal! I'll try not to bore you and sum things up..

- Took a supervisor job at Best Buy in November of '07
- Moseyed off to Mexico in April '08
- Had a blast (haw.. dripping sarcasm) at work in the latter half of '08
- Went to Mexico again in November '08
- Managed to go two trips to Mexico without getting drunk in an all-inclusive resort (impressive feat for a 19-20 year old, I'm sure)
- Stepped down from aforementioned supervisor job in April '09
- After three years out of high school, finally applied and was accepted to a college here in Edmonton.. will be heading back to school in the fall! :D

That's the highlights, I think.. not much truly exciting but it was a fun two years none-the-less.
I must say, I'm a little nervous about going back to school.. You might say I'm a little out of practice with all this school stuff. Hopefully all goes well this year! :D

Anyways that's all I've got for now, I'm hoping to do a few more journal updates than I've done previously. Hope to see everyone around!

I just discovered that everyone gets print accounts now, and since I had before this little change I get a Premium Print Account 'Til Hell Freezes Over. So taking advantage of this new feature, I've decided to make a few of my pictures prints! Yay! I might add more later... right now, it's just my favorites that are going to be prints (not that it costs me anything extra, I just don't want stuff I don't like in there :D ). So now then... Go buy my stuff! :p

Oh, I've purchased a new Camera too, an Olympus Stylus 700. If I had known that XD cards are seemingly so hard to come by, I might have gone with my second choice instead (a Kodak camera, some friends suggested it, saying it's a great camera). But, what can you do.

Anyways, lots has happened since my last journal entry... my last real one anyways. I've graduated from High School (yay!), and am now working at Best Buy. As you might have guessed, I've quit the movie theater... too much stress for too little pay. I have other reasons, but I won't go into them here. Best Buy, aside from popular belief, is actually a decent place to work. I managed to get a starting wage up and about where some of the seniors get, so I'm quite pleased about that. The only thing I dislike so far is our Supervisor and the hours. The supervisor I've come to learn is quite useless. Pieces of advice are tossed aside by common sense, and I, an employee for 2 weeks, has managed to teach him something about a piece of equipment which he claims to have never known. Really instills confidence in me there. ;) The hours aren't so bad, I guess... 6 am to 2 pm Mon-Thu, 4 am to 12 pm on fridays. I'm managing so far, hopefully I don't die of exhaustion. :P

I decided... what the heck. Lets have a monthly contest.
For this initial one: make me a new avatar. Can be any style you want, though I'll let you know that I do like greens/oranges and vector style ones. See *gulak's gallery as I just drool all over it. Doesn't have to be that though! I've been known to like other things as well. :D Only rules are as follows:

Watching: Firewall

So the powers of management want me to learn projection. I'm scared. :P It looks sooo hard, having to thread all the film through everything, getting it right etc. Not to mention if something goes wrong with a projector, you have to quickly figure out what went wrong and how to fix it. Not to mention you're basically alone for 5.5 hours in a hot dark space. :| So I dunno. Any of you guys ever work at a theater, learn that sort of stuff? Just wanna know what to expect, that's all.
Ah well, it'll give me a good challenge.

So here I am whining about work again. ;) Well, they've gotten stupid on us... again. There's now a special refill policiy for staff on the large drinks.
See, me and a girl I always work with figured out that we could get a large drink, pour it into another cup and get the refill on the large right away. No more, now that we have this special policy. I guess we're not allowed to share our drinks(stupid), get the refill in another cup(that's reasonable), we have to finish our cup before we get the refill and we have to get the refill before the end of our break (15 minutes for like a liter... right), and if we bought a combo we're not allowed to give it to someone else(uh sure). Now there are some more but I just can't remember them right now but they follow along these lines. Most of these I'm ok with I just think it's stupid... but then there's this note at the bottom saying something along the lines of "if you don't follow these rules, you will be disciplined. Action such as termination of employment may be taken." Now. Can they do that? Fire us for getting a refill on my drink a minute or so after my break is done? For giving a combo I got with my $3 discount to a friend? Like give me a break. I'm planning on testing this to see what they do. Most of the managers won't really care but there's one, she's quitting in like a week(thank GOD!) and she's been soo bitchy to us the past month it's ridiculous. Since none of the other managers have a problem with us getting refills right away, we think that it's the bitchy one who dug this policy sheet out to get at us for one last thing. I just hope that I never work with her anymore since I am just sick of her. Well, I guess I've vented enough for a while, so let's move on. ;)

My newest vector is gonna take so long to do! 150 layers and I've barely done anything. Take a look!

It's my Birthday!!! In... well, from the time of me posting this (11:10PM), 50 minutes! I've already got all my presents, had cake since I have to work tomorrow. :( Oh well, maybe they'll have cake for me.

I'm just fuming about this company that bought my theater. They just.... suck. 6 cent raises every 400 hours you've worked (a looooong time when you work 20 hours a week or less in some cases) is just brutal. I mean, I'm not expecting massive raises but 6 cents?!! Give me a frickin' break. 2nd of all, they want us to keep up standards so high in the theaters, washrooms, lobby etc. that we have no time at all to help the customers.... I find myself almost running to get to people to rip their ticket, because I was busy doing a theater check of an empty theater. :roll: With our old system, we would do theater checks when all the movies are in, so we don't have to worry about being back at our spot to rip the tickets. But nooooooo.... this new way of doing them every half an hour, even when the movie is out and noone is in there is just SOOOOO much better because we can keep up the high standards! And this was the clincher for me....... the management staff quit at another theater in town that is owned by Empire. So we were all like, ok sure... they're unhappy with the new system like we are... I guess they took it a step further. But yesterday I learned that Empire wants our general manager to do all the management stuff for their theater AS WELL AS ours. She's already swamped and has 5 kids to look after as well. SO, naturally she's told them that she will quit if they make her do that stuff as well. Aaaand.... if she does that then the other 2 managers we have will quit. Aaaaaaaaaaand then, they would have 2 theaters without management teams. On top of that, all the staff at my theater have come to an agreement that should our general manager quit, we will quit as well. So we don't know what they're going to do, which is not a good thing since even I could see a situation like this coming... They spent an entire morning during a staff meeting bragging about how their policies are sooo much better than our previous company, how their systems work better their pay scale is better, but they've done nothing to show that. When the change over happened our managers were just handed a new computer with software installed on it that they didn't know how to use, so they were there one day(night(morning)) until 7... and they'd been working since 12 pm the previous day...and they had to work at 12 the next day. I mean, they're acting like total monkeys. Sorry about the rant here, had to get this off me. I just hope they get their act together... otherwise they might be down 2 theaters, in a city that they need every theater they can get.

Sometimes I even freak out because I think I've lost it when it's still sitting in my pocket! :P If they made the 20Gig iPods in that size, it would be perfect... my 2Gig is just a little tiny for my needs. :D

Oh, and the labs we do are pretty impossible too. But enough about that...
I'm working on my second vector, going into waaay more detail this time though. Trying to work on more gradual shading, and overall realism rather than just making it look like a face, that's really dark on the one side. It's really tedious though... I've just spent half an hour on a little spot of hair that looks almost one color when zoomed out. It should look better... I hope it does anyways.

:bulletgreen: Still pretty sick, missed the past 3 days of school, and the past 3 days of work. They called today and told me to get a doctors note... I guess they don't think I'm sick anymore. :D The only good thing about me being all sick is that I've got all this time to work on my vector... I've been doing it for 3 days straight!
