At this point I got really excited that colored mechanical pencils do actually exist and we went on a crusade to track down what brands have them and where you can buy them. I found some at jetpens.com [link] and proceeded to buy some of each of the 8 colors available. I also bought 2B 0.3mm mechanical pencil lead (I'd only seen HB before) and 4B 0.5mm (I'd only seen 2B) and a pencil that can hold 0.7, 0.5 and 0.3mm lead. The colors are actually quite nice, except the green I think. Whee.
I also was passing past my usual supply store and saw they had copic markers that they'd recently gotten in for sale at NZ$7.50 each, so I was naughty and bought three
*cough hint cough* I can't really justify spending more than that on markers I don't know how to use yet, considering I'm $400 overbudget and my student allowance just stopped, if anyone is feeling uber-generous this christmas... *whistles*
Oh and I got my grades for the semester today: A- in Applications of Complex Variables, B in Applied Electromagnetism, B+ in Experimemtal Physics and A+ in Groups and Symmetry. I'm happy with this as it puts the year's GPA a grade point above first and second year and I'm well on track for honours. Aiming for nothing less than B+ next semester. I wasn't caring about the lab grade and whilst a B is still crap, at least electromagnetism was already my worst subject even without it being 'Applied' with a senile lecturer

Erm let's see. This year I started at UCanDance, the university dance club, doing Salsa (incl Rueda), Modern Jive, Merenge and Bachata (Bachata, MJ and Rueda I prefer to do). Part of the Rueda performance group they've started.
Also Kung Fu and Tai Chi. I learnt a few good exercises for my back and stuff from TC but I didn't carry on with that past the first term. Have continued KF though and am now Orange belt, and have a fair bit more muscle/flexibility.
Learning a little more German and also some Dutch and Afrikaans.
Grades for first semester were:
Multivariate Calculus and DE's- B+
Physics lab- A-
Quantum Mechanics- A (grr, scaled down)
Doing Complex variables, physics lab, and Electromagnetism this semester.
Oh and finally no longer depressed, new room with lots of space and cool flatmates. Theuns (requester of one of the recent drawings and person responsible for the dance/KF/Afrikaans things) and I broke up about 2 months ago, but we're very good friends *cuddles him*.
Now I must go nap before the KAOS 48hr party this weekend.

Just finished the second year of my 4 year physics/maths degree, got my grades recently which were:
Quantum mechanics A-
Electricity and Magnetism B-
Newtonian&Relativistic Mechanics B
Waves, Optics and Circuits B-
Algebra and Crytography A
Mathematical Logic A
Linear Algebra B
I'm pretty happy about the A- on quantum. And yay, on course for honours.
I start a summer paper on programming Matlab (a program that's used a lot for scientific calculations) at the start of January.

I have a corset! Like, a proper one, which was I wasn't expecting to be able to afford for a while. I bought one off trademe (like ebay in NZ) because it was a rare size 6 (21 inch) and looked cool for approx US$30 expecting it to be one of those shitty lingerie ones but it looks to be one like these: [link] in colour #274, steel boned and everything. I think the seller may have got a sample or something from the manufacturer.
It looks awesome on (might post pics soon).
And the best thing- no more back pain!
I have a few fused lumbar vertebrae which is usually fine, except if I slouch when sitting, all the bending has to be done by my upper back which I think has been causing my uber shoulder pain. I'm thinking about getting a smaller one (this one has loosened a little) from ebay for $130, but if anyone knows anywhere else that affordable, please link.

Also, I love math. Yeah, 200 level courses are fun.

I've decided after I finish my 5 years of BSc(hons) in Mathematical Physics (of which I'm in 2nd year), I'll spend 2 years working and travelling Europe and come back to study for 2 years when I'm 25 to do a BA in Philosophy (logic mostly). The reason I say 25 is that then I qualify for full student allowance (yes the system is retarded, apparently you leech off family until then). And I'll be able to take random German/Astronomy/Comp Sci courses I won't have time for in my BSc.
Shawn's thinking of doing a Math & Phil degree after he finishes his Film degree, because he may not be able to do honors and Masters as planned, since the University of Canterbury has proposed cutting Theatre and Film this year, grr.
It'll be funny if we both end up with a BSc and a BA. Hah, take that sterotypes!

I got some cool t-shirts from thinkgeek.com, science jokes etc. One has 'I'm in ur _____, _____ing ur ______.' with a washable marker to fill in the gaps ^^ Thoughts so far include 'I'm in ur t-shirt, writing ur stuffs' and 'I'm in ur physics class, downloading ur spacetime' (my lecturer will laugh at that).

Shawn, Stuart and I had been trying to find a place to rent for the last few weeks. We got really lucky and found a nice 2 bedroom unit on a quiet street about 1km walking distance to university, and for only $210/week :-D And the landlord wasn't fake, snobby, bureaucratic or disorganized zomg!
We're finishing moving this weekend.

Also, I got my results a while ago, so if you care I got B+'s on all my subjects, which is good though, because that math course is one of the hardest at 100 level.

And my birthday's on the 25th, I'm getting old XD

God I hope none of the Republicans or Clinton get in power. America's so much of a mess already.

Work's going well, I relieve for after school programs and kindergartens, the hours are flexible and I don't hate it, which is something.

Uh yeah. Moving out of the Halls of residence probably sometime next week. It was fine for just a year to meet people but the general sentiment now seems to be that we won't miss the place, with all the exploitative management and drunk, often destructive and disgusting, engineers that accompany it. I need more boxes for my books, heh.

I've now been on dA for one year. Who would have thought upon joining that I'd get given a bunch of free stuff and have 20,000pvs and nearly 800 watchers a year later

On another subject, we've just been given our grades for my first semester at university. Mine were a B in Maths, B in Physics, and A+ in Logic (math/philosophy). Not too bad, considering I've now gotten rid of my bad highschool math habits and am much more interested in this semester's physics topic. (Shawn got two A+'s and an A- lol).

Also, I'll be open to commissions from now on, but I won't definitely commit to anything until I've finished the one I'm doing. The price would depend on size and amount of detail involved (basically how long it should take me to do it); so between $30 and $120 maybe.
(PS: buy my prints! lol. I've only sold one)

1: I often get mistaken for being older than I am. When I was 12 someone thought I was 15. When I was 14 my mother’s boss asked me which university I went to. I’m 17 at the moment and people think I’m 20 something. I was sitting outside a class earlier this year reading a book and some students who were in the lowest form walked past saying “She’s a cool teacher ay” I only realized they were talking about me when I looked up and they said “Hi Miss” followed by “Oh…are you a student?”

2: I haven’t learnt to drive. I could have tried to get a license when I was 15 but never wanted to. I don’t really plan to for as long as I can get away with it. (Shawn can’t drive either and he’s 25). I’ll just use public transport or walk. It’s pretty much a good thing because cars are polluting and expensive.

3: When I was 8 my school entered me into the Australasian Mathematics Competition. I scored in the top 0.2% of entrants (taking into account age) and got a cool little medal with Pythagoras on it (boy, I feel like I’m bragging).

4: The most sleep deprived I’ve been is when I skipped a night’s sleep then slept only 2 hours the next night. On the last day I was walking home from a friend’s house at 10pm and I’m half convinced I kept momentarily drifting off to sleep as I walked. I felt awful the next day. I thoroughly recommend that everyone try being sleep deprived at least once in their lives.

5: I was born a month premature.

6: Shawn and I met on 7th October 2005. The way we met was very causally fragile. I searched icq for ‘physics chemistry’ on the principle that hardly anyone would have that as their interests, but if they did they would be cool. Shawn had put them in his profile a few years ago on the principle that hardly anyone would search them, but if they did, they’d be cool. He ignores everyone who messages him who isn’t on his contact list (through knowing them personally) but for some reason he made an exception and messaged me back. He is the only person I’ve truly been in love with.

7: I walk really fast apparently.

8: People who use text writing or dO tHiS!! annoy the crap out of me. And how can you exceed a limit of 1500 texts a month!?

9: I noticed recently that of all the books I’ve read in the last few years only Anne Frank and Harry Potter were written by women, despite the fact that I own 80 books. This made my English teacher laugh lots (don’t worry she’s a woman too).

10: My favourite food is butter chicken. Mmmm, butter chicken. I also like macaroni cheese.

I didn't come top in any of my classes for a number of reasons, I had put a lot of my effort into the university paper I did during the first part of the year (I got an A though) and have been spending a lot of time drawing, working, and trying to spend enough time talking to a friend when I would have needed only a fraction of that time had we been living in the same place. And generally just wasting time because I was hungry or sick of living here when everyone I cared about was somewhere else.

But I won a scholarship! Whoo! It's not a huge amount, but it'll definately help, and the cool thing is they just gave me a cheque that I could bank.

Also, I've had my 4 exams (one still left on wednesday) for Physics, Chemistry, Statistics and Calculus which is why I haven't been doing so much of the drawing.

I'm moving to Christchurch (yep, it's in another island) on the 28th of December, I'm really looking foward to it. I'll try to draw as much as I can before I go, it might be my last chance to do so for a long time.
I've decided on the papers I will take next year:
Quantum and Electrical Physics
Waves, Therodynamics and Materials
Math 108
Logic and Computability (Philosophy, Math)
Science: Good, Bad and Bogus (Phil)
God, Mind and Freedom (Phil)

Oh, and I might get a bit more involved in helping the Green party or Greenpeace once I'm down there. Did you know that NZ is the 3rd highest producer of greenhouse gases per capita? No where near as bad as the U.S. though.
Stop driving your damn SUVs, people! And littering should be finable.
