Also, my sister's birthday is coming up, and she has chosen to hold a garden party. A BARBIE-themed garden party. Per the course, the backyard has been transforming into a noxious plastic-pink desert, where the childish cries of pre-teen girls echo across the lycra plains.

In addition to being co-opted into setting up this abomination, I also need to cope with my imminent University interviews, my mother's insistent cries to get a job and/or start driving, and passive angst over the outcome of my HSCs.

At first I was worried the concert wasn't going to have enough of an audience to make it worthwhile, Ornette Coleman's free jazz being not entirely everyone's cup of tea... but the auditorium was packed! Filled to the seams with people! Of course, you see the people who came only out of curiosity leave in the first fifteen minutes, but even then the atmosphere was electrifying!

At the end of the concert he played my favourite song of his, 'Theme From A Symphony' not counting a following encore performance of Lonely Woman, his classic ballad.

Even after the concert, I waited round the Stage Door to see if he'd come out, while there I met a fellow Avant-Garde fan as well, who segued into a conversation by noting he'd brought along the same boxset hoping for Ornette to sign.
He was a 40 something Jewish man (the headcap and everything) and we talked a long time about our mutual interest in free jazz, we both agreed when we play it for our friends and family that it generally ends in disaster XD
He was a big fan of Cecil Taylor, while I was actually more partial to Sun Ra myself, and then he said he'd seen Sun Ra in concert at a University show in the 70s Amazing! (That's during one of Sun Ra's best decades)

Then, after waiting for some time, Ornette Coleman came out the door!!!!!!!
He's about 76 now, and quite stiff in his movements, almost arthritic, but as the concert attested his skill with his instrument(s) had never diminished!
He signed my boxset, as well as my newfound Avant-Garde Colleague's copy, and even posed in a photo with me, truly one of the most amazing nights I've ever experienced. ^^

Long live Ornette's legacy!

That's pretty small really, but for me it's something especially with how little I get around to submitting so yay anyway!

In other news I'm attending a course on scriptwriting at NIDA over 5 days next week which'll be quite fun I expect. Week after that, though, I'm going back to school on the 30th The buggers couldn't wait 5 more days till they started up again.

Apart from that, holidays have been nice, I got some work done on both my music compositions and my writing projects as well as started cleaning out my room for the first time in years which feels quite rewarding. That's all for now anyway ^^

The Tim Bruer Quartet, one of Australia's best Jazz groups in my opinion, has released a new CD via La Brava Music. It sounds like John Coltrane's pre-avant garde period with influences of Keith Jarrett, buy it today ^^

Well, not much happening otherwise, though yesterday afternoon I bought the famous Orange Box and Hellgate London which is basically a futuristic sci-fi-fantasy Diablo II clone. And while I was just leaving the store, I met my 3rd grade teacher from my old school; he was my favourite and as such talking to him was quite nice, everything had turned out very well for both of us. He was still working - now in Officeworks - even though he's approaching 70 in a few years. Great inspiration.

Oh, and *teases* looks better in formal school uniform than he does in a kilt.

Haven't done one 'o these before, but what the hey.

1. I buy all these books excitedly and then leave them on my shelf while I read through the ones I borrowed from the LIBRARY.

2. I only like to listen to very specific musicians, I mean I say I like Jazz but only a select group of Jazz artists, about 10 or so. I'm not one for genres as a whole because they're so expansive, even sub-genres. In my opinion, each artist's work is his own, and it's cruel to categorise him with others due to shared features.

3. I HATE POP MUSIC. Every hit that comes out just doesn't grab me. They're mostly catchy and stuff but they don't grab me emotionally. And I hate all the bands who use distortion with electric guitars. ><

4. I'm a guy who likes Yaoi, if that's not SLIGHTLY weird I don't know what is.

5. I go through very brief phases of energy and 'yayness' but mostly I'm pretty laconic. I don't smile much either... it takes a lot to make me laugh.

6. Well, I'm writing a list of 6 weird things that almost nobody is going to read, that's strange in itself.

And to break with tradition I will not be tagging six other people (sry)

This is a band following an age-old Romanian tradition of a travelling musical ensemble, complete with folksy violins, accordions and Middle Eastern-styled singing.

Though hard to find, you can very easily order a CD off Amazon or some similar outlet.

( Yeah this does sound a lot like and ad, but I really love the music and the band has next to no publicity, so nyeh )

I got pwned
But it was great fun and the people were really friendly, we even all got to order a large pizza each for only $5! I bought a booster and found a really rare card and bought a cheap (but really good quality) hand-painted model they had discounted by 75% because it was old stock. (If you're interested it's 'Kiki-Jiki' a fire goblin and dragon together)
So, basically, I had a great time! ^^ I also - maybe - got [link] interested too, so YAY! ^^
Anyway, that's pretty much everything.
! Oh yeah, outside the store when I came in I found a beanie lying on the floor. It was dark, raining, and no one was around, so I inspected it, found it was actually a good brand and wore it. It's grey but I kinda like it because of the circumstances and everything. I left it there for about 20 minutes so if anyone was coming back they had more than enough chance. So now the beanie of itinerance is mine! MINE!!!
