In other news, I had one of my interviews at school today. It was for interactive design, a program dealing with websites, graphic design, and multimedia. I think the interview went well. Maybe they will pick me! And if they don't, I hope IDEA picks me at tomorrow's interview... *wishes hard*

The Low Down

The Britney Spears concert rocked. We had amazing front row seats. It was so crazy being a few metres from a celeb like her. A bunch of people were smoking pot near the stage, so britney, in her divabitch nature threatened not to come back on until the smoke was gone lol. Thirty minutes in the darkness and she was back.

I applied again to this prestigous Illustration & Design program I've been trying to get into for the past three years. About 200 people apply with their portfolios (no fantasy or digital work allowed) and only fifty of those people are admitted to the dun dun dun "interview". In your portfolio you also have to have a reference letter, three examples of artists work that you admire, and you have to write an essay about why you want to be in the program. This is extra to your 20 pieces of actual artwork.

So like I said, I've been working on this monster of a portfolio for about six months - STRAIGHT. I even made a new sketchbook that I filled with life drawings, drawings from photos, and design work. I made three acrylic paintings. Those of you who know me, know that I absolutely abhore acrylic paint (mostly because I fail at it). So basically I put my little ol' heart and soul into this thing because I've never wanted anything more than to be a student in this special program...

Today I get my REJECTION LETTER. Oh man.. I was so unbelievably upset. That kind of upset where you don't get angry, don't cry... you just walk in circles, holding that rejection slip... wondering why?? How??

So I decided that they were wrong. I'm an able artist and I take pride in my work. I called the Program Coordinator. My voice must have sounded a little panicked. I said something like:

I made my portfolio specifically for your program. I've been trying to get in for the last three years. I honestly don't know what to do to improve it. I don't think I can improve much more than what's there. And... I'm getting kind of old now.

She laughed at the last bit, and promised to look over my paper work and call me in the morning to arrange a meeting in her office so we could look over my portfolio and she could give me tips.

I was at the very least grateful that someone was going to tell me where I'd gone wrong. So I was about to go out with my mum, when the phone rang (this was like a half an hour later). It was the Program Coordinator:

Hi, Sasha, I've looked over your work, and it seems you were on the borderline and they didn't accept you. I've decided to reverse the board's decision. You deserve an interview.

I couldn't stop saying thankyou. I was leaping around saying "I get an interview, I MIGHT GET IN" like a lunatic. It was awesome. I'm SOOOO excited. Now I have to beat 20 of the other 50 people for a spot. Hope and Pray for me!

I wanted to write this to all of my friends on here to let you know that if you try your hardest and don't succeed, it's not the end of the road. Sometimes it just takes that little extra leap, and you can change a decision that seems set in stone. I called, even though I was shy, and I got way more than I thought I would. I have an interview!!

Project Details

1. This book is a Guide to the Unnatural World. It will depict different creatures drawn by us. The six sections are:

Whispers From Beyond Spirits, Ghosts, Ghouls, Vampires, Demons

Creatures of the Deep Mermaids, Sirens, Selkies, etc..

Winged Things Faeries, Pixies, Harpies} of dark and light. (and other winged humanoids)

Enchanted Beasts Unicorns, Fawns, Centaurs, Dragons, etc..

Whimsical Woods Dryads, Elves, Gnomes, Goblins

Magical Humans (lame title lol... suggestions?) Witches, Seers, Steampunks, etc... anything your heart desires.

2.

I have taken your art and used it... *guilty shame face* I just used some pieces to put together a quick mock up of the thoughts in my head. I'm going to use some inkblot spatter brushes and things too. *I promise to delete it once everyone's had a look

Amount of pieces per artist: Preferably, I would like about ten. I would like to use your old pieces and also have you create new ones. They don't have to be complicated, just character images. I may not use all of the pieces and I may crop/mess around with them how I wish. If you don't like what I've done you can tell me and I won't use it in the book

Time frame: six months to a year. Does that sound good?

5.

For writing, anyone can contribute. If you would like to write the passage accompanying your image, let me know.

6.

Credit: Everyone will be credited. I'll probably make an index in the back.

7.

Publishing. Okay, so once all of the images are finished and put together, we're going to review everything to make sure we're ready to go forth and pitch this thing to a publisher. We'll decide the title, final layout, check for typos etc... If we work hard and get lucky, maybe this will make it! Maybe you'll walk into a Barnes and Noble, or Chapters, and find our book there. Who knows! If that doesn't work, and we've given it our all, we can go ahead and self publish. Any monies made would be split equally.

Fantasy Artbook Project

Hey guys!

I'm putting together a Fantasy Artbook, and am looking for a few talented fantasy artists to recruit.

Project Details:

Style: It's going to be much like Brian Froud's wonderfully creative books. Especially like LADY COTTINGTON'S PRESSED FAIRY BOOK and his Goblins book. You can view some exerpts here: [link]

It's going to be very image heavy, but I also want it to tell a story or have mystical/macabre/enchanting writings or poetry. I want it to be really edgy, possibly even dark (though not gruesome).

Materials: The book will have a very textural feel, so traditional mediums are encouraged. The pages themselves will be designed and put together digitally though.

2 Important Notes: This is NOT an artbook displaying past works. And the intention of the project is to pitch it for real publication.

Regarding Artfire, they emailed me back apologizing and unflagged my mermaid bookmark! Hurrah! Thankyou everyone for your support!

I've finally started doing commissions which is pretty neat. Right now I'm working on a scene involving three barbarians from opposing tribes & a yellow Gerbera flower. I wonder if one day I'll actually be commissioned for a faerie lol or if randomness will prevail? Oh well, it's money!

I haven't uploaded anything because I'm working on my portfolio. I can feel fantasy calling me, but I have to deny it for the time being and create "real art" aka lighthouses and flowers copied from photos. Deny thy imagination!

I've been writing. You guys have been reading & reviewing. I love you guys!

It means a lot to me to have people actually reading what I write and telling me what they think. So thanks a lot for motivating me!

Okay, so I'm a pretty nice, friendly, never step on any ones shoes kinda person. It may be pms, who the hell knows, but I sure as hell am pissed. FUCK YOU CONSERVATIVES THAT ARE AFRAID OF FREAKING BARE BREASTS.

So I have a listing on artfire (basically like ebay or etsy), and it was flagged as innappropriate. I had already flagged it as bloody well mature and for highschoolers and up, so it's not like I didn't warn people.

I don't understand why my item was tagged as mature/innapropriate when I had already tagged it as such. Are breasts considered NOT PERMISABLE on Artfire? I know that I see breasts everyday when I walk the streets of Europe. I'm sorry but I've never once in all my years received such a ridiculous complaint by some overbearing conservative nut. I'd love to know your thoughts on the matter, artfire.

Lots goin' down in Sasha's world.

Firstly, you should all know, my biz partner and I are no more. If you want to read about it, add solarisskye to your livejournal friends list (it's an interesting tale-of-a-rant). I'm making the jewelry all myself now (all of the pieces you've seen I made anyways, so whatever).

Secondly, I have a big adjudication/jurying coming up for a HUGE market I'm trying to get into. I'm trying for jewelry & fantasy art, wish me luck!

Happy 2009!!!

Happy New Years!!
I hope you all had a jolly Christmas and got a special kiss when the clock struck twelve on new years

I've been away from everything for a good month (maybe month and a half). I don't really have much in the way of exciting new art to share, mostly because my house looks like a demolition zone lol! My mum runs her soap business out of our tiny apartment and let's just say it's horrendously chaotic in here. I think I feel most like painting when everything is more... organized and serene. Also, I really need better lighting in my room. There's just one light, and it's like a dim little lamp, so I can't really see the colours I'm painting right. I'll deal, eventually, I'm sure.

I have not been idle! I ACTUALLY MADE MY FREAKING WEBSITE!!!!!!!! I know, it's like what, three years in the making? But it's here! Mostly!

Wow. I just chopped like most of my hair off (it was long). So much of it was dead from dye, and I was so frustrated with all the knots that I just tyed it up, grabbed a pair of scissors and cut away. Don't worry, it wasn't done Britney style

I still look good haha! Now to go to the hair dresser's and get them to fix it hahaha!

I can't believe it's nearly December! My last day of classes is December 9th! Woot! I'm so excited to finish my first semester of Studio Art!! I'm going to post some of my school work once I get it back ^_^ How're you guys doing in school? Excited for the break?

Today we drew the best nude model I've ever had. Firstly, she had a beautiful body, so it was a pleasure to look at. Secondly, she had a constant little smirk on her face that most of us commented on afterward (and included in our drawings). Thirdly, her poses were FANTASTIC. She slipped into this cotton tube (that's what my prof referred to it as), and modeled in it... It was weirdly awesome. Oh, and we jokingly nicknamed her "Ginger" I bet you can guess why lol.

I've been working really, really, REALLY hard on my website. You can check out the under construction page now if you'd like ^_^ [link] I'll be sure to update when everything's finally finished. I'm finding css to be a very interesting coding language. I'm coding it all meself! Woot *is proud*

Much of my layout design is from stock images on dA, so I have to say I'm very thankful for those that provide such lovely useful resources for our community

Admittedly, Twilight is my guilty pleasure. I consider myself a person with... more sophistocated taste in literature, but gawd. Why! Why does RPATTZ aka Robert Pattinson AKA EDWARD have to be so darned SEXY. WHHHY. Seriously, that movie was awful, but in such a dazzling way. Y'know what I mean? Anyway, I'd love to hear your thoughts

My most recent piece, The Winter Queen, which has recieved more love from you guys than I'd ever hoped or thought or dreamt etc... Well she was favourited by the AUTHOR OF THE BOOK SERIES that inspired her. I'm just stunned.

~MelissaMarr Is the writer of Wicked Lovely, a book about modern day Faeries who interact with the human world. It's a beautifully written book, with strong, complex characters, which I highly recommend.

Anyway, I just wanted to say how awesome this is, and that wow. Just wow!!!!!

I totally pimped my mom's computer lol. Now she has a huge honking tablet, monitor with fruit stickers plasted all over it, and a rockin' new comfy chair to deal with. So I've set up base elsewhere until my computer's good again. I should really post a pic of this, as it's quite hilarious.

I'm so excited for Thanksgiving dinner! It's just me and my mom, but we're going to cook everything together, so it's going to be fun

We're making chicken, potato & cheese casserole, carrots and turnip, and potatoes, gravy and cranberry sauce.. yum! Oh, and pie, can't forget the pie :3 we're going to have so many leftovers XD

Isn't autumn a gorgeous month? All these red, gold, and orange leaves... crisp cold air... ahh I loves it.

I know you all loved my last entry hahaha.... but I'm having computer troubles at the moment. The journal that was supposed to be up isn't because my computer didn't post it... I don't know why. Also whenever I try and search things on google (for example let's say I searched the word deviant art) and then clicked on one of the results, I would be instantly redirected to a diet site, or other random site. I think it's either a virus or ad ware problem. I ran a virus check through avg, and an ad ware check through ad aware. I deleted some ad aware, but no viruses were found... So anyone have any tips or help for me?? Because I don't know what to do!!

Hello! Hello!

School's finally here! I just had my orientation yesterday. It involved dancing around back to back and elbows linked with random partners in a gym, screaming at people (to show us how to argue apparently), solemn speeches about the importance of community, and then we formed a big circle and everyone tried to sit on the knees of the person behind them... No, this was not elementary school... this was university

The whole point of it was to get everyone feeling relaxed and laughing because of the awkwardness of it all. I guess it worked, but it still felt really random and weird.

I met a girl who I was in a portfolio prep class with a year or so ago: ~IMUNUMI and we explored the lay of the land together. I also met another girl, she draws portraits and her name is Hayley. She's from South Africa, but has lived here for five years. We bonded over the fact that we weren't the only ones who were older than seventeen.

Man the school looks so awesome!! The rooms were huge, and the machines for sculpture make me feel like I'm gonna be a buff man by January

I got a free mug, a bag, an agenda, and condoms, along with an assortment of pins (pro choice, no means no, etc..).

My schedule is going to be insane.

Monday - Sculpture
Tuesday - Media Art
Wednesday - NO CLASSES WOOT
Thursday - Drawing, Art History
Friday - Ceramics

It might not seem like a lot, but you have to remember, each class is roughly 3-5 hours long, AND I have to do labs for each one (which is like when you go home and do homework or write essay papers for a few weeks). So I'm going to be so CRAZY busy wholy shit. I'm excited though

Anyway, that's just a little update on me life! Anybody catch the 90210 show?

I'm officially 22 now! It feels like a lot of time has passed, so it actually doesn't feel weird adding another year on. I'm excited to see what this new school year brings.

Tomorrow I embark on my trip to Anime Evolution, which is back on, just at a different university downtown (expect lots of photos up when I get back). Anyone else going?
