Why did you join this site?

It was easier than maintaining a website and I liked the setup better than Elfwood. I found it through people on the AVA board I was frequenting at the time, but I didn't join because of them . . . .

What does your username have to do with you? Is it a combination of your favorite things, or a character of yours?

Since I've had other DA accounts I'll explain them too!

~exiled-darkness -- my first one, this was just pure teenage emo. I was fond of just meshing together words I liked at the time; I tended to like dark words. One of my domains bloodied-eden is also from around this time.

~susukeru -- my first change XD; I actually still use "susukeru" in some places (like my email). It's uh . . . also a emo teenage thing. It's a verb that means to be stained. Oh gods, the angst of the teenage soul!

~some-art-bum -- where we are now. Following the failure of/boredom with previous usernames I wanted something that might stick longer. So I thought I'd go descriptive.

â When did you start drawing?

My parents claim I have since I was old enough to hold something to draw with (I don't remember myself, so this is probably close to truth if not literal truth). I didn't get serious about it till I was in High School though. So . . . I would have been about fourteen?

â Which hand do you use for drawing?

Right. I don't have fine enough motor skills in my left.

â Which is easier to draw - male or female?

ÂI started out drawing women, albeit anatomically incorrect ones, thanks to most of my childhood being obsessed with Lara Croft. Evidently, I've concentrated more on drawing men. Women these days are such foreign territory (ironic, coming from a lesbian).Â

Oddly enough Lynsey's answer almost works exactly for me lol. Though calling myself a lesbian is simplifying things, and I've never had an obsession with Lara Croft. I started out drawing women, and then concentrated on men so that I didn't draw men who looked more girly than my females! (Though this does still happen sometimes.) This means I saw drastic improvements in drawing male anatomy . . . but still have problems with females sometimes.

â Which is easier to draw - long hair or short hair?

I find medium length hair easiest to draw really. Really short hair gives me problems in how to make it fall sometimes, long hair is just a bother. But I love drawing long hair all the same.

â Is it easier to draw the head facing towards the right or the left?

I can draw facing the left, and make myself do so at times, but I tend towards right facing. Oddly enough, sometimes when I flip it horizontal it looks *better* facing left than right. Oi.

â Is it easier to draw the side view of the face or the front view?

Front probably, the forehead will usually get me on profile (not that I can't fix it, I just have to work at it). I tend to favor 3/4 ish angles, even though I think those are the hardest to draw!

â What do you have problems in drawing?

I cannot draw animals. At all. And I have problems with backgrounds. Not because I can't draw the stuff, but because I can't think of what *should* be there (does this make it a problem with creativity?). Background composition + me = fail.

Feet are also difficult unless I can get a good model. You can't really use yourself to ref for feet. I've tried.

â What do you like to draw?

I've found that I like drawing sad people. It's mostly that I like drawing emotions, but I'm not good with angry expressions (should work on that!), and for some reason I don't think that I really do emotive happy pictures. At least, I certainly feel the emotions in my sad or wistful drawings more than the happy ones. That could just be something in myself as well, though.

â Are you a traditional artist or a digital artist?

I do both! I'm really fond of colored pencils :3 And anything ink.

â Where do you start drawing from?

The head, but I should also say that I really start drawing (normally) from either a gesture sketch or some other quick sketch to get basic proportion and pose down.

â What is your drawing habit that you are aware of?

Uh. I draw in what most people would call anime? I draw feminine men? (I'm sorry I have pretty characters D:! I swear I can draw men who look like men!)

â Any tips for coloring/shading?

Experiment. Find what works for you. If you don't have an idea of how it should be draw from real life and study what other people do. Learn how shadows and highlights work, and how they define objects.

WIP MEME GO!

2. Androgyny is not everything it's cracked up to be, no matter what the tabloids may have told you.

3. ÂIf you weren't male, I'd be saying 'I love you' right now.Â

4. And then his body was gone, leaving only a vague outline of his body in the snow and blood, like the imprint of a fallen snow angel.

5. It was a good way, he reflected sourly, to get killed and he sorely hoped he had learned his lesson this time around.

6. He'd tried to compensate by breaking things every so often, but all he ever got was scolded and punished.

7. That he wasn't even worth a cheap fuck, that stung even worse than his unrequited feelings.

Changed my dev icon to match *raila in her geekiness X3 We are RO dorks.~ Except my computer still works atm (but uh, I really shouldn't risking jinxing that considering how it's not been really behaving the best lately), so I can still get on while she needs a new computer before we can party and unleash our super-special guild on the world of [rebirth]RO!

See, we match-ish! Sorta. Well, I had more stuff on my head I didn't want to cut off . . . so mine ended up smaller XD; It'd be a crime to decapitate the chicky hat :< (it's animated IG, btw . . . hops on my head XD)

The character is one of my High Priests, Valyntine. She is . . . uh . . . super-cute. It feels weird to play a character this cute. (My other High Priest is the gayest male HP ever. Seriously. He wears the decorative bells. It started out as a joke and . . . stuck.) [Yeah, he's the one in that RO art I drew recently. I've got him in red robes there, but he's in pink and brown IG.]

Aaaaand . . . got to see Miyazki's newest film today (Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea). It was so cute~ ~moonlove and I both agree our favorite character, for some reason, is Fujimoto >_>;

Wow, this is my last week before going back to school. Hope it ends up being a good school year. This also means I really need to get some doll heads I have lying around painted this week. Less distractions during the school year = good (but we'll see what actually happens).

A friend of mine is currently in a bit of a financial bind (well, aren't we all to some extent or another?). Her medical insurance from her current job won't kick in till October, but she needs surgery now that can't be put off. She's already got bills just from tests and consultations that are over $1000. Luckily, she's been able to go through a clinic that can cut the final costs down some, but they're still going to be hard to pay out of pocket.

Which brings me to the point of this entry. I'm going to offer you guys art to donate. For every $3 you donate I'll draw you a headshot of whoever you want (probably on the computer unless you specify by hand, not colored unless you donate a *lot* and I want to give you a bonus). This means for $6 you get two (2), for $36 you would get twelve (12).

Anyway, the BJD Club (=bjd-club--aptly named) has started to get more lively again. We moderators are trying to get our act together/organized. So now would be a good time to join! If you're interested in such things.

I've got an idea for a contest I'm going to try to push through when it gets back up to speed. With art as prizes D: Sooo . . . if you like my art and you like BJD, this is a chance~ You won't even have to *own* a BJD to enter it. Because it's not going to be a photo contest.

Well it appears my computer has decided to work again without my having to replace anything *knocks on wood*. This is a good thing. Thank you to those few who showed concern about it though XD; It seems I merely reacted too early.

It did give me the disk read error a few more times . . . but it seems to have stopped for now. I'm still not sure I trust it entirely though?

Anyway, I've added a commission info journal entry . . . because I realized I didn't have it? I'm pretty much always open for commissions, because I don't get enough for me to have to close them down XD; This could change in the future, but I don't really forsee it? XD Anyway, there's a link to the entry at the top of this journal should you be interested.

Edit: Also, I am slowly and finally making it through my dev watch backlog. If I watch you this means that you may get a bunch of comments and/or faves from me in the next few days. Uh . . . sorry for the comment/fave/love spam?

Haitus? -- Updated

So my computer has been unable to connect to the internet the past few days, I've been borrowing my sister's laptop when I needed net access. This was annoying, but didn't hinder me much.

Now, however, the hard drive in my main PC seems to have crashed. Completely won't load up. Ugh. In light of this I'm unsure when I will be able to update again. I'm going to try to do some art with natural media though!

I'm also considering a bit taking cheap headshot commissions (either inked lineart or inked lineart + colored pencil) to help fund the hard drive. We've been really hard hit computer-wise [first my Dad's computer was completely fried by lightning, then our Internet issues, and now my computer X__x] and I feel bad letting my parents foot it all. Would anyone be interested if I did do this? I'm not exactly a popular artist, so I can't help but think I wouldn't be able to gather enough interest to make the endeavor worthwhile.

Update:

It appears my computer has decided to cooperate after all. I'd been crossing my fingers that letting it sit would work . . . but I wasn't exactly optimistic? However, at the moment it is running again . . . and we have net access back now. Here's to hoping my computer will stay alive (though I've already made backups in case it doesn't)!

It's been what . . . forever?

Well, to be honest not much has happened until very recently. I've mostly just been a boring student. Though I have about four or five scattered WIPs right now. I don't get enough time to work on them :< Or when I do have time I'm not able to focus or am too tired. *sigh* And this semester isn't even as tough as I thought it'd be lol! Half the time I'm disoriented because I keep thinking I should have more work to do X___x It is very weird.

That and I've been playing a lot of video games. Mostly because it's something I can do without having to think too hard (usually). Legend of Mana broke my brain a few times . . . note to self: don't do maps you can get lost on when you're already pushing a tension headache.

In other news, two of my photos out of four (and a monotype) submitted to the Student Juried Exhibition put on annually by the Art Department on my campus got accepted :3!

1. What is your favorite doll that you have and why?

Uh. Hard. I like elements of each of them. Satoru is my favorite character overall of all of mine, and that carries over to his doll form somewhat as well. Yukio is the baby since he was my first doll (though originally as a DoC Yen). Yasuo is a favorite of mine as well though, especially to photograph.

2. What is your favorite company and why?

I don't really have a favorite company so much as favorite molds. I mean hell, I don't even have two dolls from the same company right now! XD

3. What is your top 3 favorite molds and why?

This changes a lot. But let's see.

Volks School A -- I'm not sure what appeals to me in this mold. Because there are also a good deal of things I normally don't like in it. I think it's the wide nose and the mouth really. That School A grin does me in every time.

Yes, I sold mine. But that was because I didn't have a body for it or a character and it was just going to sit around. And I had more use for the money :/

Migidoll Ryu -- Ah, Ryu in general just makes me happy. He resembles my art style a little (even more when I'm the one to paint the head . . . Yasuo . . . sometimes looks like he stepped out of one of my drawings, it's a bit scary). He has a big nose and a nice smile too . . . guess I'm a sucker for that.

The third slot I guess fluctuates. I don't really have a third favorite just yet.

4. If you could get up to 5 dolls, which ones would you get and why?

I already have five dolls. So if I could only get five I'd already be done :<

And I have about that many planned to finish off my crew.

In the interest of making this an interesting meme, I'll do five I don't plan to really do, but if I had the money and space I'd go for them.

1.) Volks F30 Sunlight -- this would actually be my character Aiakos
2.) Volks Tsukasa or Shiro
3.) Volks Syo girl (but on a bigger body for that head, so some sort of hybrid) either that or a Sara
4.) Custom House Choa
5.) Volks Kun Boy Whiteskin (so it'd be an FCS option) -- this would actually be for a Ragnarok Online homunculus character . . . would end up with me buying another doll too, but yeah

5. What is you favorite skin tone and why?

Normal, hands down. I don't like how pale white skin is generally. And from recent experience with Wisp I find it more difficult to faceup. Pigments go a lot longer way.

6. What mold do you hate the most and why?

Ugh. I don't have just one? I'm generally not fond of most Dollzone, or Delfs, or most of the Volks FCS molds. But there is almost always a customization job that can...

School Update + Meme

Looks like this semester will be a lot of reading and papers . . . other than that it shouldn't be too bad?

. . . I hope.

I'm still getting used to my new sleeping schedule. I have to be up at 5:30 in the morning, and . . . my body isn't taking too well to it yet. I'll probably never completely adjust to it, but I'm hoping I'll get to the point where I'm not completely drained at the end of the day X____x;;;

Then I have a night class on Thursdays (no other classes, though, and none at all on Tuesdays).

. . . uh, wish me luck?

Yeah . . . decided to steal this meme from everyone and their brother, maybe someone will actually answer it XD

Generally speaking, people tend to have a 'defining image' that comes to mind when they think of a particular artist. Maybe it's one you can relate to, maybe it's the image that first introduced you to their work, maybe you just feel it was their absolute best, so it sticks out in your mind. Then, whenever you think of a certain artist, this image pops to mind.

So, I'm curious: which of my works comes to mind when you think or hear of me?

Any answers will probably have to do with my dolls, that's what I get for neglecting my drawings for so long.

Edit: Oh yeah, I'm a total dork. I've been taking my GBA along to school and playing my sister's copy of Tales of Phantasia during my breaks XDDDD Soooo dorky. Oh well, I think I got halfway through in it before, so now I'll beat it, I guess. And entertain myself through breaks.

Well, I haven't had one for awhile . . . and so I avoided posting a journal so I wouldn't have to change the format again because I no longer have CSS XD;;; Can't be a stamp whore anymore :<

Oh well, so not the end of the world.

Uh, I haven't updated with a lot but photography lately . . . but I do have a good bit of natural media work to put up . . . if I can ever get the scanner in the house to cooperate >__>; Well, most of it wouldn't fit on the scanner anyway, so maybe I should just find a good wall + my camera.

School is starting up again soon, though . . . hopefully this semester won't be so bad and I can get some more work up regularly.

Busy.

As predicted, school has kept me busy. I recently brought home my portfolio for works I turned in at midterm for my Printmaking class. I'll perhaps see about scanning some of those to post here. At the very least I have a monotype in there I think turned out pretty well.

Maybe I'll bring a few of my other monotypes home as well.

Anyway, school will probably keep me going pretty busy, so unless I do a little photography I wouldn't really expect much from me in the way of updates until December.

It has me feeling a little dead at times, but I feel the printmaking class has been really good for me. Possibly even better than any other studio class I've taken. It should also be the last studio class I need to take for my Art minor. Just another Art History class and I'll be done! (Then I just have to finish up my major. And the Honors minor.)

Also have a research paper to do this week. Ick.

Nanowrimo.

Which brings me to the other thing eating time. I decided to try Nanowrimo this year. Uh, I'm a little behind on my word count now.

I'm alive . . . I think.

Well, I haven't changed this journal in forever. Huh.

University classes started up again, so they're going to be eating a lot of time. I'm taking a studio class for my art minor, though--Printmaking (intro level)--so if I get any decent works from that maybe I'll post them up.

So far . . . my first woodblock is sorta . . . meh. If I get bored maybe I'll photograph or scan one of my finished prints (gotta make them first) and post it in scraps or something.

Tales of the Abyss.

That game is still eating my soul. It refuses to give it back ;__;

You can skip this next bit if you like, it's me rambling about something I really don't know enough about but have been thinking too much about anyway.

I've also decided I think way too much about the science in that game. I spent the hour and fifteen minute drive to school (or most of it) pondering on the geology (mostly, but a little of the physics, but I don't know very much physics . . . or geology really).

Finally came to the conclusion that the core of Auldrant makes no sense whatsoever (not that I hadn't already decided that while playing the game). It seems to be completely unsolid (not to mention made up of fonons...

My brain is mush.

So I totally just marathoned my way through a speed play of Tales of the Abyss. "Why?" you ask? . . . because I have a charity auction commission that requires me filling a sketch book with sketches based on the game, I thought it best with that volume of work to get to know the characters.

I only stopped to sleep. Seriously. I ATE WHILE PLAYING. I'm cool like that. It was only awkward the one time I encountered a boss battle while eating (Mohs actually) . . . but I managed.

It's an awesome game btw, wish I'd had time to take it slower and really get into the side quests and stuff--I will one day.

My final time was just over 40 hours, give or take an hour or two. And I think I might be able to figure out the battle system if I play it through again . . . .

. . . maybe.

I am really, really tired now.

My latest transaction (getting me money) went through. So I will definitely either be getting Satoru's new head OR be getting Mikoto a new form next.

Umm . . . new CSS?

I thought I'd try something fresh . . . so I looked through some of the awesome CSS layouts submitted by artists. I ended up choosing this one by `nyssi. It's actually really pretty cool, ne? Ne?

I like how clean it looks, even though it's not at all simple. The coding makes my head twirl a little bit, actually.

. . . I am so lazy, I never make my own layouts >__>;;;;

I just don't want to take the time to first of all think of something, and then to figure out the proper way to code it. . . . I learned the bit of CSS I know mostly by trial and error . . . and I've got a lot of holes in my understanding of it. But I do know enough to get by making layouts for my websites ^-^;;;;;

Well, nothing is really going on much right now. I've got some drawing/commission stuff to start working on shortly (it's probably not anything that will end up in the gallery, though), so I doubt I'll be drawing much for myself lately.

If you noticed I'd uploaded my Death Note commission a few times and deleted that it's because it won't display on my computer so I'm not sure if it uploaded right or not *head desk* DA likes to do this to me a lot. Especially the larger resolution I try to display a picture at/the larger the image size.

I'm going to try to put it back up this afternoon, once I've done some errands and once DA is hopefully not still doing the "site maintenance" error at me.

I have found my miracle cure.

Tylenol. The arthritis version.

Totally tones down my TMJ ;__________; I wuv you tylenol.

Going to make myself not take it all the time, though. Because one, I hate taking pills, and two I don't want to build a resistance to it.

I would guess, based on this that my TMJ is mostly being caused by the joint being inflamed, though.

As I've been going through my dev watch lately I've been noticing a bunch of photographers I feel don't get the attention they deserve.

Sure, I watch people like =hiritai who are awesome photographers and get tons of comments and favs.

But I also watch some other photographers who I feel maybe should get that attention and don't. So I wanted to plug some of them . . . even though I don't get much traffic and don't know this will actually help them XD;;;;

Okay, now . . . 8 things.

1.) I like to think I can sing. Which leads to me collecting karaoke/instrumental mp3s and singing along at all hours. And I DO mean all hours.

. . . this does not mean, however, that I can actually sing.

2.) I cannot connect to a doll unless it has a character/story with it. I have sold one doll because of this. I have very nearly sold two others, but they saved themselves and threw me a story just in the nick of time.

Currently, the dolls I have form two story lines (would be three normally, but I'm re-shelling the dolls that made up the third one). They still crossover a bit sometimes when I'm bored. But other than that they have actually nothing to do with each other whatsoever.

3.) I hate the taste of chocolate. And the texture of chocolate in most cheap candy, it's too waxy. Good chocolate is too rich.

Despite this I like hot chocolate a lot.

4.) I am slightly phobic of phones. This comes from being traumatized dialing a wrong number once >__>

It is reinforced, however, by not being able to hear people very clearly over the phone and having difficulty actually following conversations sometimes between that and my tendency to space out. I'd rather just talk to a person in person. Or in text if that option is not available.

5.) I use tons of emote faces. This is not because I think they're so cool, though. It's to try to give what I'm writing a tone to reduce the chances people will take it the wrong way. Like, things like sarcasm don't really come through in text, so smilies and shit are my way of trying to make up for the subtle cues (like tone and body language) you just don't get in text.

They're woefully inadequate, by the way. XD

6.) I do not like movies (with very few exceptions, most of which are animated). I have a small attention span and movies don't tend to hold i...

Got any ibuprofen?

Ha ha, I fell down some stairs yesterday and sprained my ankle pretty bad. I had to miss classes. I can be such a dumbass.

But hey, I didn't kill myself, yeah? Or break anything, though I was scared for a moment because I heard something snap and I almost didn't make it to my feet.

. . . man, I'm gonna get so behind. That's bad because finals are in a few weeks TT;;;;;;

No? Ah well.

I also sort of impulse bought a tiny (abjd). It'll be smaller than Mikoto . . . god, I said I'd never do that. But it's actually going to be a doll for one of my dolls, and I needed it to be 20cm to be about right scale-wise with a 60cm doll. (Mikoto is about 25-26cm.)

Also might be getting a different digi cam for my birthday (that's a few months off yet, but I'm babbling anyway). It won't be anything fancy or expensive, but I found one with fully manual settings in a reasonable price range. I drool over the manual-ism. Maybe my photography will improve, if nothing else I'll stop blaming the camera.

That's about all that's happening, except working on a commission for =onnawufei.

Injured myself and bought a doll I probably shouldn't have . . . . Wow, my life looks like it's going up. lol

wtf, I try to sleep and I can't lol. Dude, I'm totally gonna end up with L-rings under my eyes X__x; I'm gonna go lay down again after I type this up and hopefully sleep will come to me, as I have to be up at 6am for classes.

What kind of person schedules classes so they have to leave at 6am? A person who drives over an hour commute and who is near graduation and is screwed over by the University's list of classes.

I've been considering doing one, and considering doing one . . . and considering. So I thought, okay I'll pick a far off number off and by the time I get there I'll be done procrastinating and considering.

So . . . 10k. That's right, cap the number 10,000 on my hits and you can have a lovely request CG (a simply one, but it will be shiny).

So uh, keep an eye out?

Sometimes I actually spell better when I'm sleep deprived. Usually I don't. Like . . . I just spelled "know" as "no". Win.

Then again, I do that sometimes when I'm awake. And I have this unique talent to sometimes type small words (3-4 letters) backwards. I have no idea how that happens. I guess I went from transposing numbers to transposing letters. But it's only when I type. I'm not dyslexic (yet), though I might be dyscalculic [ [link] ], I do have a lot of the listed symptoms, though they never caused me horrible problems so I'm probably not. I just have a lot of symptoms of it.

To this day I cannot read analog clocks . . . or do Algebra . . . or count without my fingers.

Okay, I can't think of anything funny to babble about. Figures, when I want to abuse how insane I get when I'm tired I can't think of anything . . . not even voices in my head arguing whether the yellow river was or was not made from the gods peeing (yes, that happened).

Oh the weather outside . . .

Truly is frightful. All the counties around us had blizzard warnings last night. Just an hour or so ago we had a short thunderstorm go through. About the time I was posting my newest deviation.

What are ABJD?

BJD is an abbreviation for ball-joint doll (ABJD is Asian ball-joint doll). Ball-joint dolls are simply that--dolls with ball joints. These joints allow for mobility and posability in the dolls that is realistic to the movement of the human body. ABJD, at the moment, are a primarily the type of ball-jointed dolls for purchase, as the Asian market currently produces a majority of the different types (there are very few exceptions as of now). It's slowly starting to develop into a bit of a fad, particularly in the art community, so with the greater demand, who knows how the market will expand in the future. Influenza?

I go my whole life having never really had the flu (24 hour stomach viruses sure, the full blown out flu, no), but now I think I've got it. And I still have to go to school tomorrow cause one of my professors is a real bitch about attendance and I already missed two classes for weather and one because I was feeling a tad sick last Friday >_<

Pretty sure it's the flu, cause I'm on day two . . . well actually 1.5 ish of flu-like symptoms.

At least I'm not vomiting (apparently that's more common in children?). There is a bright side.

To the Printers!

I've decided to submit some of my large-res pictures to prints . . . so you guys can buy them if you want? I don't know if they'll pass quality inspection yet, though.

So far I've only got one of them up, I don't have a lot of the PSD files for my stuff on this computer (aside from gift/commission art I've done recently the Yasuo-Mikoto picture was the only one large enough to work--uh, oops? And I don't want to offer prints of gift/commissions because of principle).

Oddly enough, the Yasuo-Mikoto picture was pretty much large enough they let me select it for everything but a calendar ._o So uh, lots of choices there?

Gonna edit up some of my doll photos to offer as prints, though I think . . . .

I'll be trying to make prints of all my personal works from this point out (whether or not anyone actually wants to buy them lol), so if you see something and it's not a print, I probably didn't work at it big enough But I am making a personal commitment to working at larger resolutions, so this probably won't be the case

Most of my older stuff isn't high enough resolution, though . . . . Some of the originals would be, but that's only if I can find the originals *sweat*.

I also ordered Yukio last weekend, so in a few weeks there will be another doll in the house, oh noes!

There might be some amusing photostories then, because Yukio is really probably the most exuberant character I've ever had in resin before. Should be interesting to have him back.

Moving On

I've actually made great progress in the last week. Finished my entry for *shilin's contest. It turned out better than I hoped in some ways, though in other's it will never live up to the concept in my head or the dynamics of the sketch made for it.

I did, however, learn an awesome way to CG fire. So I'm pleased even if I do no good in the actual contest.

(It also made a neat-o personal print off my printer--so yay!)

I've also finished the Christmas wishlist gifts and will get them sent out tomorrow.

I Envy the Artistically Prolific

I mean those that can create awesomely fantastic prolific art. It is in mind to this that I try to put more effort into the stuff I put up, it means less, but I want quality over quantity.

That said, I'm finishing up a commission (paid in real money) for a friend of my sister's. After that I'll have no real artwork in the works, nor any contest or any other thing to work towards. I'm feeling at a loss as to what I should do then?

At the moment I am working on an entry for 's awesome contest (and this one really will work for the theme, I think, unlike my original concept. I'm still on the inking stages, 300DPI images take so long to ink digitally. It really makes me glad I don't work at 600DPI . . . but it also reminds me that that is exactly why I don't work at 600DPI You'll probably be able to catch a preview of it on my blog in the next week or so, cause I'll be asking for critique. In adherence to the rules, the finished work will not be posted till the contest is over, though.

I'm also alternating this working on a pair of MSD pants (they'll go to 's Jordan, she wanted "punk" stuff . . . I hope that what I made will live up to her boy's style . . . though it may not be colorful enough?). This should be the last piece, or one of the last, I have to complete to finish up all of my Christmas Wishlist stuff.

YES! I'M FINALLY ALMOST DONE WITH IT!

My dad also seems to have a solution to my confusion as to how to ship some of the stuff (like 14" x 17" matted works), so yay to that as well!

School

Unfortunately Uni is giving me an unusually busy semester. I haven't had this much time tied up since I was an art major taking studio classes. Thank god the workload slowed down from the pace it was taking the first three weeks (I seriously had a paper or two due every week along with 100+ pages of reading X___x).

It does still however take time away from art, and will continue to do so. So sorry things are getting slow.

(Things are also slow because I'm spending more time on some of my works now . . . like . . . 10-15 hours + I could post really crappy doodles, and most likely do so rather prolifically, but I'd rather not.)

Do you think I should make a separate account for my doll photos? And maybe photos in general? It seems they flood my gallery as of late, but that's really because I've already had them sitting on my computer so they were a convenient update. Ha ha, I'm so cheap TãT

Part of me wants to, but I think that's probably the part that just really likes to make new things. I'm horrible about that. New = shiny and shiny = . . . or something like that.

Omg, Tamagotchi version 4 is so amusing XD I'm on my second generation tamagotchi, I think it's going to turn into the tamagotchi my sister and I have always [affectionately] labeled the duck . . . which she normally gets and I usually don't (ha ha, it's reversed this time, as she didn't get it X3).

My first tamagotchi became a rock star! I wonder what this one will be? I'm raising social points, and I really want it to be a firefighter thingy. Cause that seems so awesome to me. Tamagotchi Firefighter to the rescue!

Maybe my art site? I want to convert its gallery to Lightbox like I did with the doll site. It's so much cleaner and organized, and it takes way less coding than doing individual pages for a piece. Yeah, a good part of it is that I'm lazy, the rest is that if you aren't counting my work spaces I'm actually a neat freak.

My room would be horribly neat if I didn't have to use it as a workspace too . . . and the fact that I have to live in my workspace drives me nuts if I think about it. No wonder I don't think much, and don't really sleep until I'm dead tired to the point I can't think about anything . . . hmmmm.

I've been told I'm probably mildly OCD by my psychiatrist. Yeah, I can see that. (And now I'm babbling ). But I rarely get to complain about the room-workspace issue. That's the downside to mooching off my parents while getting through college .

Art Contests: Wheee!

So has an interesting art contest going on now. Info about it is at this [link] . I'm so planning on entering, in fact, I've already started work on a piece, though I've got at least two more that I want to do. I'm still on break this week, so it seemed like a good time to start working.

Edit: So now you can only submit one, but eh, I'll still do multiple pieces so I have some to choose from

Anyone else planning on entering? Maybe we could do feedback/critique or something, since you aren't allowed to post it on DA. Three of the four characters I'm planning on drawing haven't really been featured in really finished art pieces before (there's some odd doodles here and there, but yeah), so I'm actually a bit excited to draw them ^^.

If you aren't planning on entering you should really consider it! It's a good opportunity to draw OCs you might be neglecting X3 <-- really really bad about/guilty of this

And the prizes are really nice too >3 . . . I feel like a billboard now *laughs*

It should be interesting to see what work comes out of this contest, though, and I really like the idea of drawing your own characters. It guarantees that everyone should enjoy the process and have a really good time producing work. I doubt I'll actually win, I'm sure some really awesome artists will enter, but it's still a really good excuse to draw some of my characters who never get drawn.

Ugh . . . I keep getting pwned in boss battles. I'm at the very last few . . . d*mn you ________ (name blanked for spoilers) for locking me in the dream >_<; Eh I'll get past it soon enough, I'm still working towards trying to weasel out without using too many resources, so I've yet to actually battle in earnest D<

. . . then I have to battle ______ and then the final boss. But I am sooo close to the end >_< Then I'll have completed 2 of the 5 BoF games (I think there's only five o_o, I only know of 1-4 and Dragon Quarter) XD;;; I'm not even touching Dragon Quarter . . . might go back and play the first two . . . . (ha ha, I can make it my goal to beat them in reverse order, I'm already on a role, finishing 4 first and now 3).

Yummy new layout

Okay, got artwork for everyone but *raila done and matted X__x; This means I gotta work double time and sew some doll clothes, then I can send out christmas wishlist stuffs . . . um, it'll be January presents? (probably, if not February, I've got a lot to work with).

Also . . . I seem to have adjusted to my tamagotchi I got for Christmas. (I spent Christmas with a mild allergic reaction that had me stuffed up with a sore throat. Not sure what, but something about the plastic casing set me off.)

Oh the irony, leave it to me to not be allergic to my puppy, but instead to be allergic to a virtual pet -_______-. Life likes to make fun of me. . . . though I am mildly allergic to some sorts of cat fur. At least I reacted to a friend of mine's cat once . . . .

I'm a dork and sorta wanna do more of the arcade ids, even after I cursed doing the one (and didn't study for a final . . . oops).

Only I'm gonna do them for characters. Aaaanyway, the question is: Are there any of my characters (bjd characters included) that anyone wants to see in particular?

I'm such a sheep, but I'm really doing this more so that I don't feel like a stalker granting other people gifts? I really like the idea of this since I like giving things so much. (Don't feel obligated to return, I just really like to give stuff, anytime during the year really X3 I just never know what to do.)

Btw, if I watch you and you post one of these I will likely try to fulfill something from it. If I really can.

Spark notes version of guidelines:

STEP ONE

Make a post with your personal wish list. Include contact info if necessary

Look at other people's wish list and grant wishes if you can and feel like doing so X3

1. Letters, I like to receive mail. Or Christmas Cards, or just any little mail thing.

2. Uh, MSD or SD sized boys clothes, my boys are a bit deprived. Or cutie delf boys clothes (but I figure that's harder to procure, though Ken shirts usually fit).

3. 16-18mm doll eyes, I like playing with eyes?

4. Really any sort of BJD accessory . . . well, for boys. Dunno what mine would do with frilly underwear or something like that (t'would be funny I'm sure).

I think I'm hallucinating the smell of buttered popcorn again. This happens to me on a regular basis. I doubt it's because I'm hungry since I just ate X3

Now, it could be my sinuses. I dunno. It's always just kinda weird. Because even though it smells like popcorn, it doesn't have the same sensations as smelling popcorn has . . . if that makes any sense at all?

Well at least I haven't been hearing voices lately.

æ´æµ (Subaru, aka my puppy) just stole something out of the trash. He's really bad about stealing food and stuff he can chew on -__-;; Though I'm told this is a Labrador thing. We have to actually be sneaky to get food past him, though ^ã¼^;;;; It's kinda funny if it's not you involved. We jokingly call him "Sub-let" (pronounced soob-let), as a mixture of Subaru and Piglet lol.

As you can probably see, I've started experimenting with my journal, oh noes!

Well, I want a prettier journal since I've got a subscription now? (It's a Christmas present!) I don't know why, but I really love the combination of grey and orange. It seems like they shouldn't work together, but I love it still.

OMG, it feels so nice to be able to format it ;_______; You can't even imagine.

And I can't seem to quit playing around with using Japanese characters for faces >___>

Uh, it's great fun.

(If you are wondering, I use the character map option in Windows to access the characters (though I do think it would be interesting to have a Japanese keyboard), if you have Japanese text enabled and run Windows you should be able to do the same. Well, and if you want to, I suppose.)

So I'm thinking of getting a subscription . . . hm, is it worth it, I wonder? I really enjoyed the previews in the dev. watch part of the temp free (promotion) one I had for a day or so.

Okay, now I've got to get back to my project for the Neuroethics class. Gah, it ended up more difficult than I thought. I'm doing a series of graphic novel pages for it now.

Wish me luck :\ Hopefully this idea won't flop like the last one (which only flopped because my mood shifted >ã< ).

My laptop in theory is working now . . . though my tablet is officially dead. That makes one pad and one stylus off my two tablets (Wacom graphire I and III), I've sort of combined them for a weird mis-matched mix at the moment . . . . I haven't tested this theory yet, so yeah.

Also joined an RPG this weekend ( [link] ). Go JOIN, CHINA WANTS YOU >O! (especially in the capital . . . >_>; )

My schoolwork is sort of at a lull point now, if you discount the fact that I have to read 20 chapters of Moby-Dick for every session of my lit class X__x;;;;;;

I'm actually kinda pleased with how my photo assignment is turning out, I'll be sure to post the final five prints I use on DA as soon as I can get them scanned (which would require making them first XD).

Maybe I can get a drawing or two in now . . . . I've also been sort of semi-inspired to try a go at a Moby Dick themed tarot deck again. It's fascinating, as the novel is just as complex as a tarot deck . . . the two would intermesh nicely. If nothing else, I think I want to do a tarot card for my characters . . . .

Mmm, tarot card fetish. On that note I'm trying to do daily readings again . . . (yes, I actually read tarot cards. My personal deck is Arthurian themed . . . you know, Camelot, Lancelot, Merlin etc etc [incidently all three of those are featured in the cards somewhere, Lancelot several times if I recall right]).

Yeah, I'm gonna go shut up now and work on revising the English paper that, under recommendation I'm submitting for publication. Maybe if I get bored I'll post it on DA. If I can find a suitable section . . . is there a secion for literary research papers?

Free subscription trial . . . ?

. . . whoa, so wtf is up with this "omg free seven-day subscription trial "? (at first I thought this was just a promotion for everyone, but a lot of non-subbies on my watch seem to not have recieved it . . . or have they just not logged in to activate it?)

. . . though I will admit, the features are pretty cool from what I've seen so far (especially the thumbnail view on the dev watch . . . for that) . . . not enough for me to run out and buy a subscription, though (admittedly, that would require me having money to begin with).

So, tablet is dead, until I have funds to buy a new one digital art is out. That's not necessarily a bad thing . . . . I'm currently in a rough spot as my style seems to be morphing again and maybe I can get that worked out by the time I'm able to work with a tablet again.

Or, you know . . . I could just do natural media stuff and spam with that. I mean, half the time I like that stuff better anyway . . . .

Hmmm . . . I can probably put up a photo or two, maybe even some from my photography class. But we'll see.

Okay, school (university) is killing me.

With that in mind . . . I'll probably have no updates (aside from the theme drabbles) for a little while.

I'm in the middle of a Yuri [Hyuga; Shadow Hearts 1 & 2] fanart that is promising, though . . . . So hopefully I'll have a good update when I finally get around to it e___e;;;;;;;

Yeah, I've got like . . . a 4 page report, a 10 page report, a 1 page summary, a few pages of reading, a test, and . . . six rolls of film to shoot/develop + 25 prints . . . all due by Tuesday X_________________X

And I'm not even a senior yet . . . god.

Anyway . . . I'm ~~not dead yet~~ pleasantly undead at the moment.

So my laptop may be in working condition now . . . I'm still less than thrilled with the Windows OS and don't really want to use it. But yeah.

I'm also currently trying (and failing) to learn the operation of an airbrush. I'm also starting photography classes at school, so I'm getting the basics of the operation of a fully-manual 35mm camera. Seems this will be the semester for learning new things . . . .

Don't let this fool you, I still have no stable computer situation.

Mainly because I've had all I can take of fucking Windows and now refuse to go with anything but a Mac -__-; So yeah, gotta save money :S

. . . though my parents are offering to fund most of it. (Truthfully I have nowhere to put a PC right now . . . so yeah e_e; ).

Anyway . . . the new layout is . . . uh, interesting. And complex. I'm still not sure I like it.

But on to what I was mainly pondering about when I decided to write this pondering entry:

I really really want to do a webmanga . . . and actually stick with it. One of my big problems right now is I have too many story ideas and can't just stick with one ^^ ;;;; (That and by the time I build a story to where it's comprehensible and not just a big pile of shit I become so attatched to it that I think I ruin it with my second-rate artwork e___e;;;; ).

Aaaah, it's truly a vicious circle!

I'm batting around two ideas now . . . the story that Aiakos is from (which is approaching the stage where I go: "SDfasdlkasjgpoaidgjsaldgaba'akjweao''a'dgnad'lfk my artwork ruins it T_________T"! Yeah, I'm a spazz . . . . )

The other story . . . well, I can't ever seem to figure out its beginning ^^ ;; It's a weird little Alice in Wonderland spinnoff story (that has no actual female characters when I think of it . . . ) that's also a tad bit shounen-ai.

I wonder if it might not be good to go with that one. Since I'm not so attatched to it yet and might be able to use it as "practice."

Then again, I'm not sure anyone really cares or would be interested in any of my stories anyway e_e;

This is not intended to be a comprehensive guide to posting comments, but rather some tips to be more considerate and helpful to fellow artist's in the community. Some of this is common sense, some is something that has come from experience doing critique in art school.

Hopefully this will be helpful . . . to someone.

Step One

First let's start off with some very simple dos and don'ts.

Â Never post only to tell someone their artwork is crap. That is flaming . . . and will win you neither respect nor friends.

Â Take note of the type of comments the artist has specified. If they don't want critique,...

I'm hating life and people in general right now.

No one specific, so no worries there . . . .

It seems like it's so easy to make me feel horrible about myself, people do it without even trying. And that turns me off wanting to be around them or socialize with them. But then I find it hard to blame them since there is no evidence (rather to the contrary) that they ever intend to do it.

Sometimes I really wish there was a living in "professional hermit."

My current newest piece ( [link] ) was an effort to diffuse some of my stronger emotions of the moment. Mainly depression . . . though I'm wondering now if I might not be more on the manic side of things. It's so very hard for me to tell sometimes. It's not always so clear-cut, you know . . . .

Mmm, I'm also a bit insomniac. I'm hoping I can manage to drop off soon. I have work tomorrow and my job doesn't care if I sleep or not .__.;

Eh, so much drama . . . no wonder I'm an artist.
