Woohoo!!!! It took a little longer than I would have liked, but that's what I get for being away from DA for a year.

Thank you to all who have dropped in and taken a look around. Even more thanks to those of you who have taken a fancy to one or more of my shots. There are soooo many great photographers and artists here, it really means a lot to get the encouragement and the critique. Been back home for a few days. Hawaii was great :relax: but it's nice to be back home. Thanks to all who have been keeping up with my island adventures.:+devwatch: Been trying to motivate myself to update the journal... but work, and other errands have been getting in the way. It's nice to be back home and relax too. Have several Soprano's episodes to catch up on. Also been trying to go through the rest of my pics to see if there's anything else from Hawaii that I want to post.

:iconfreddyfivemiles: and I took a day to go enjoy some of the Alaska countryside. We found this beautiful young bald eagle that seemed to want to pose for us. He was very large. His talons were lethal. You should check out some of his eagle pics. Here's one:


Ol' F5M couldn't resist trying to get a better angle on the eagle... so he quietly :megaphone: tried to get closer... but the bird wasn't having it. I think it went to go :shithappens: on his truck.

Laura is heading out again. Her work is sending her down to Nevada for 9 days or so. This time I'm staying at home. I need to get me a job that sends me all over the country for weeks at a time. That would be great... yeah.

Going to Indiana at the end of the month. I doubt I'll have great photo-ops like I did in Hawaii... but it will be a fun time. My mother :granny: turns 60, and it will be nice to see the fam. I don't get to see her as much as I like... so it will be nice to be back home for a bit and spend some time with her. OK... this will be a short. I'm a little worn out. The sea turtles yesterday were grrrrreat! I also went snorkling with a cheap underwater camera. That didn't work out as planned. The pics didn't turn out that great. I'm sure you also saw the rock jumpers. That was fun to watch.

Hiked up Diamond Head today... and up to Manoa Falls. Pics will come shortly. I expected more from the falls... but it was a fun trail to hike. Diamond Head is much like flat-top in Anchorage... but not as cold, and better terrain.

Tomorrow is Laura's Birthday. We are going to find a nice beach... hopefully without a bunch of people. At night, we'll go to Waikiki and have dinner at Dukes. I hear it's nice.

Had swordfish tonight. Yummy!!!

OK... I’m having a conflict with myself. :confused:
As some of you know… my favorite band is Pearl Jam. Well… Eddie Vedder of PJ along with Boom Gasper (tours with band, plays keyboard, from Hawaii) will play the Kokua Festival on sat. and sun. Jack Johnson is headlining the concert. (it’s his event). It’s an “Earth-Day” Concert. You know… recycle, global warming, greenhouse gas… yada, yada, yada. A ticket is about $95. Doors open at 2pm and ends around 10pm. There’s a bunch of small bands and such too. My issue is… I really want to see it… but I’m in Hawaii… doing “vacation” things. I can see *all* of Pearl Jam in Seattle anytime. But this is a unique event. Hmmm… Yes I care about the environment… but “Greenies” really aren’t my crowd. I don’t know exactly what time they are going to play… and I don’t want to be there all day. Is it worth that much? Am I getting too old? 10-years ago I wouldn’t even give it a second thought. Also, Sunday is Laura’s birthday, so I would have to go on Saturday if I want to go. Hmmm… I might end up regretting it in the future… but I think I’m going to pass this time.:hmm:

We went to Lanikai Beach today. It’s a secluded beach on the island’s north east side. There’s no parking lot… so you have to park on the street… next to some pretty swanky homes. Wonderful beachfront property…. I guessing it’s a pretty impressive sunrise. I didn’t take that many pics… concentrating more on the tan and relaxing today. :relax: I did see something new… it’s called kite-boarding. It is what it sounds like. Similar to para-sailing… or windsurfing. You get a big monster kite… hold on tight… and hop on what looks like a mini snowboard. It was impressive. One guy we saw was getting a lot of air… it was pretty windy.

So… when we left the beach… we went through the town of Kialua (Kee-a-Loo-a). Laura wanted to stop at this cookie shop we saw called “Chip and Cookie” Once inside… there we some books near the door… so I started browsing. All of the books were about the same guy… Wally Amos. I was thinking… “Hey, that guy looks familiar.” And then I realized it was “Famous Amos” Then I read a bit more… and found out that he had lost his “Famous Amos” cookie business… and to keep the story short… went through some probs… but came out on top… and opened another cookie biz. All of the books were the ‘self-improvement’ & ‘motivational’ kind of reading… but somewhat interesting. Anyway… some guy leans over my shoulder and says “That’s a pretty good book.” I look over at him… get a good glance… and realize it’s “Famous Amos.” Very nice guy… seems like a happy man. Likes to read to children. Has a literacy foundation. Still loves cookies.

We ate at a restaurant called “Pinky’s Hawaiian Grill”
Laura had Ono (fish) Not sure if that’ spelled right.
I had Lau Lau. It’s pork and spinach wrapped in a palm leaf and cooked. Now that you know what it is… you can avoid it.:puke:

OK... going to keep this one short and sweet because i have a lot of pics to post. Drove to North shore today on Oahu. Drive was beautiful. Kinda reminds me of the drive to Girdwood... but a lot warmer... and more people. The road was everthing but straight... and parts of it are what you would call "back-woods" anywhere else. Still... very senic & wonderful drive. Got to North shore... started to take some pics. Laura was working on her tan... about an hour later it started to rain... so, that sucked. Finished the drive along north shore then went to waikiki to eat at "Tiki's". That place was cool because it had about a dozen original "Shag" prints on the walls. Food was great. I had awesome crab cakes and Laura had Mahi-Mahi. Mmmmm!!!

Anyway, hitting another beach a little closer tomorrow to maximize the tan time. More pics to come. Nick - there's a little something extra in the scrap folder... hey not much, but it's what there

So... I woke up this morning around 9... and got my first real look at the view from where we are staying. All I can say is :wow: We're staying in this 3-bedroom condo provided by Laura's company. It's on the 4th floor... and depending what neighborhood you're in... in ANC.. it would be your average run of the mill condo. Nothing fancy. But the view makes this condo 1-mil plus to buy. It's insane. I know what I want to be when I grow up... I want to be a property owner in Hawaii (with huge tracts of land) and make $$$ by renting out my pads. Anyway, to get back on track... I got up... had some kona coffee... and relaxed on the lenai (patio) and took a few pics. I've already posted a few... and getting ready to post a few more in a few moments.

I can't thank my buddy enough for lending me the zoom lens. By the way Nick... I tested it out with my tripod before I left and it worked fine... but it wasn't cooperating this morning. It's too heavy... and I'm having trouble "keeping it up" hehe! Oh well, I guess I'm just going to have to hold real still and go handheld.

Laura finally got in today.... she's beat, and sleeping. We had dinner at Haleiwa Joes [link] in Kaneohe. Had the pepper steak and Laura had coconut crusted baked fish. Both were great. The fish... can't remember what it was, but it was similar to halibut.

Tomorrow... the real fun starts... we are driving to the north shore, getting some sun, and hopefully watching some wolrd class surfing. Stay tuned for many posts tomorrow night.

So.. I got here and it's great. Waited entirely too long at the airport for my luggage... and to get a rental car... but 2 and a half hours later... woohoo, I'm on vacation. I can't say that for Laura. She had to come on a seperate flight for business reasons... and she's stuck in Seattle. The Hawaii flight was cancelled for some reason... so I'm still waiting on her.

Here's the view where we are staying. It's on the northeast side of the island. That pic was a 30-second exposure taken around 10pm.

So... here's the view from where we're staying... I'll post a daytime view in the morn.


So... I'm on the first leg of my 10-day trip to Hawaii... I know... it's a rough job... but yeah, you know the rest. Anyway, I have a 6-7 hour layover in Portland. Woohoo! :sarcasticclap: That gave me the bright idea to possibly do a blog on my trip... but I'll probably end up being lazy and this will end up being the only post. Who knows.

My good buddy let me borrow a 75-300mm zoom lens. I suppose he wants me to send him shots back like this...

Good Lord... I still have 5-hours to waste. Don't get me wrong... I'm not complaining. The weather seems nice down here... the grass is green and the sun is out... but I hate waiting. I'm eager to get back on the plane so I can take a nap. Drinking a Starbucks hazelnut mocha... imagining it was Kaladi Bros. All of you back in AK know what I mean.

So... while trying to waste time here in Louis & Clark country... I've been checking out some other artists... I'm not going to throw all of them into my favs folder.. but I do want to share with you what has caught my eye for now. Check out below.
