As last Thursday was St. Valentine's Day I think, and I hope you'll agree, that it's appropriate for us to have 'Love' as our theme for the week.

Submit your love themed poetry using the usual rules, two entries per member. You can submit old and new pieces but make sure they're your favourites. You don't have to submit 'happy' poetry; bitter and angry are more than welcome. All the conflicting emotions of love are relevant.

An Apology:

On behalf of ~zeaphyra and myself, I would like to apologize to our contest entrants as I am canceling the 'Duality' contests winner position. *lmtcloud won by default as there were no comments or votes on the other piece. I am sure you will both understand.

A New System:

Last week you all should have received a note entitled 'Changes' detailing the alterations ~zeaphyra & I have made to the group, these include a new system for themes & contests, and a submitting system developed by ~zeaphyra who is now our submissions manager. Here is a copy of the note:

<sup>The main change is that we have decided to switch the time frame of themes and contest around. Themes will be weekly and contests monthly with three weeks for writing and one for judging. This will take effect from the 1st of December when we will announce a new contest and theme.

Our main reason for this change is that we've been noted a few times that our members don't always have enough time to participate in the contests. By lengthening the time frame we hope to give you more time to concentrate on the contests and therefore gain more participation.

I hope you'll all be happy with these changes as all we want is to improve all of our experiences at ~soul-perfume. A theme will be announced tomorrow (30th November) and will run for a week. The theme will be a relatively informal task as we can't expect anyone to submit polished pieces of work. Think of our themes as writing exercises designed to get your 'creative juices flowing'.

Hello everyone !!!

The deadline's passed, we now begin the judging period.
It is very important that everyone give their opinions.

We have two entries for the duality contest :

Judging period begins today, 23rd and ends on Friday, 30th of November.

Please be aware that we are going to change the frequence of the contests!

As some of you have noticed, there is no longer a note button on the user page (or any user page); this is because, due to spamming, DA have revamped the note system. To send a note now you'll have to go to your message centers note section and enter the name of your intended recipient (e.g. soul-perfume).

Just a reminder that the deadline for our Duality contest has been changed to the 22nd of November to give you all a chance to write your pieces. I'm considering extending the deadline to two weeks after each contest is announced permanently; let me know what you all think.


Don't forget that the monthly theme at gives you an opportunity to show the group your work without the restrains of contest rules. You may submit old or new work. Our current theme is roots.

The new theme will be announced at the beginning of december.

We have a new feature! Member Biographies give you the chance to introduce yourself to the group more thoroughly than our standard profile does. There are three categories of questions for you to answer: questions which will give people a deeper insight into your writing, questions which will let you tell people about yourself, and questions about soul-perfume, of course, which let us know what you like, dislike and would like to change/develop in the group. Submitting your biography will also earn you 15 points.

Let me know your thoughts on this new feature.

I'd like to introduce to the group our new submissions manager ~zeaphyra! She has been an active member of the group (the most active I'd say) since it's resurrection so I think it is fitting that she should be promoted to manager status. ~zeaphyra will be handling all your submission notes, submitting your contest and theme entries to the gallery, and making sure our new members are comfortable with the submissions system. We’ve had some difficulties so far in choosing the contest winners as not everybody comments on each piece and we find some works with no comments or ratings and others with lots. This makes it very hard for the judges to be fair and is why we would like to ask everybody to:

1. Please rate and comment even if you don't enter the contest. We need all your advice to be as fair as possible. This is also the best way to stay an active member!

2. When you rate, please rate all entries. I am sure you wouldn't like to lose a contest because just nobody commented on your entry. Don't hesitate to say the whether you like or dislike the entry and why - constructive criticism is always helpful to improve, don’t worry about sounding harsh in your critique.


How to Rate an Entry

All comments should be constructive; do not simply say that you 'like' the piece or that it is 'beautiful'. Explain why you like it and what you think could be improved on. For help with critique and commenting click here

When you comment on a piece of work you are required to rate it.

1 is the lowest rating and 10 is the highest.

The piece of work with the highest average rating wins the contest.


Entries should be judged on :

1. Relevance to the theme
2. Workmanship (face value, presentational quality)

4. Intrigue (interest, provokes thought, etc)
