I'm thinking about entering that Dreams for the Future contest that's been going on here on DeviantART for a while now, so that I could win a Wacom tablet, a $1000 Visa gift card, Photoshop and Painter goodies, and all that other good stuff.

But then again after looking at the most popular submissions so far...

[link]

...I have a feeling I won't win anyway.

btw, I think that "Kimono" submission is BS ([link]). Sure the technicality and creativity is there, but it has absolutely no relation whatsoever to the theme of the contest. What a terrible execution of the theme...well as if there was any. She didn't even explain how on earth it relates to her dream for the future. This is kind of like BSing an assigment for Ms. Mabel's class and just saying whatever crap comes out of your mouth in order to make it looked like the assignment that you turned in--which was actually already finished two years ago for Ms. Treat's class but you decided to re-use it anyway for Ms. Mabel's--fits in with the current theme of the month and that you executed the meaning of the theme very well...and got an A on it regardless of the consistency of the artistic execution to the them. Ya catch my drift?

The judging is based not only on originality and technical skill, but also on the creative interpretation of the theme.

If anyone is interested, I sent this letter [link] (page 5, "Be Proactive") about college tuition that I found in Cosmogirl Magazine to our senator a long time ago and almost forgot that I still had his reply in my inbox:

Dear Ms. Salvador:

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with me. I appreciate hearing from you.

I share your concern about the current state of the economy, and I understand what a devastating impact the economic downturn has had on Nevadans. Americans have suffered from stagnating and declining incomes, even while the costs have increased for everything from food, to health care, to college tuition. We also face a serious credit crisis that has thwarted economic growth and cost many Americans their jobs.

During the 110th session of Congress, I introduced comprehensive legislation designed to address increasing unemployment, help working families, and prevent our economy from sliding further into recession. This bill would have created hundreds of thousands of new jobs through investment in infrastructure and renewable energy projects; improved access to food stamps for families struggling to put food on the dinner table; and increased federal spending in states' Medicaid programs to help states avoid cutting social services and raising taxes. Unfortunately, my attempts to bring this bill to a vote were obstructed.

However, we have begun a journey into a new era of political change and optimism. I am pleased that Congress and President Obama have joined together to provide meaningful, long term relief for hard working Americans. It is imperative that we help struggling families, seniors, homeowners, and others deeply affected by this crisis.

While I recognize that there is a need for immediate relief from the hardships caused by this recession, we must invest in projects that will promote an economic recovery in the immediate future, while also creating the foundation for a strong economy for years to come. America must begin to rebuild itself from the inside out by directly strengthening middle class workers, instead of relying on the failed "trickle down" economic policies of the Bush administration. That is why in the package, I support significant efforts that focus on rebuilding our infrastructure and increasing our nation's energy independence. By investing in transportation infrastructure projects across the nation, up to 2 million new jobs will be created, generating $35 billion per year in new economic activity. Also, we must invest in renewable energy and energy efficiency to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and improve our environment. Nevada's renewable resources are so abundant we can lead the nation in providing affordable, sustainable, and clean energy. This will create new jobs and keep hard-earned gas money in the pockets of Nevadans and all Americans.

In terms of immediate relief, tax cuts such as the "Make Work Pay Credit," and improvements to the Earned Income and Child Tax Credits, will help put extra money in the pockets of Americans in the months to come. In addition, I am pleased to inform you that this year we have already raised the individual exemption level under the Alternative Minimum Tax, extended the deduction for tuition payments made for higher education, and extended the state and local sales tax deduction, which is the key source of tax fairness for Nevadans. Although these improvements are a step toward putting America back on track, I will continue fighting to implement broad-based tax cuts that lower the tax burden for low-income and middle-class families.

I know that times are tough in America, but I believe we can create jobs, invest in America, and emerge from this crisis stronger than we have ever been before. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with me. For more detailed information about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, including provisions for healthcare, small business, and tax cuts, please visit: [link]

My best wishes to you.

Sincerely,

HARRY REID

United States Senator

Nevada

So bad it's good, that it even sprouted a ton of dramatic readings on YouTube (which I will also post)!

But seriously...I don't think this person was faking it at all. Be honest.
lol yeah. and the prototypes were Mary Sue-ish so I had to revamp them.

14: Have you fantasized about being in the Yu-Gi-Oh universe?
only in role-playing. but when I was younger I fantasized about my favorite YGO characters living in our world, lol.

15: Do you do Yu-Gi-Oh themed deviations? If so, how many (including stamps, scraps, crossovers, collabs, etc.)?
I've only done scraps so far, that haven't even been uploaded, lawl.

16. Do you watch/have you watched the 4Kids English dub? If so, who's your favorite in terms of voice casting?
I would have to say that the VA for Joey and Mai (hell yeah Joey x Mai! ironic coincidence much?) are the best ones.
I found this a while ago in CosmoGIRL! magazine:

There is a proposed government-sponsored program that could help grads pay off college loans in exchange for a year of public service. It’s called Service Pays, and it lets you earn around $13,000 each year for doing things like helping rebuild cities after natural disasters (New Orleans for example) and teaching inner-city schools. The program still has to be passed as federal law. People who are interested supporting Service Pays can copy the letter below or create their own, and send it to the elected officials (go to usa.gov to find contact info for your senators and representatives). You do not have to be in college yet to do this, but help is much needed from everyone in order to get the program to pass, especially many college students right now are suffering from the rise of tuition and fees, etc. due to the economy.

Here is the letter to write to the Congress Representatives, Senators, and Local Representatives:

Dear [name of your elected official--don’t forget to send one to president elect Barack Obama too]:

I am [age] years old, and a [your grade or year in school] at [name of school]. I am concerned about the rising cost of college tuition and fees, and I’m worried about my ability to pay off my school loans--especially if I pursue work in a low-paying field. That’s why I urge you to support the Service Pays program.

Service Pays encourages students like me to commit to four years of public service immediately after college graduation. In exchange, the government would forgive our loans up to $13,000 each year, the average tuition at a public school. You can read more on the program at: [link]

High youth voter turnout in 2008 proves that my generation can make a difference. So please commit to this important program that will determine our future.

Sincerely,
[your name and address, including city and state]

Because of constant nagging from my friends to go read the book and watch the movie, I decided to go and watch the movie with them.

...I came out of the theater with a stunned, "no comment" type of look on my face.

I honestly didn't know what to say for a while. And since I can't yet judge the movie entirely without reading the whole book (I'm on chapter 7, but I'm still not getting anything interesting out of the book. Although I can already see the Gary Stu and Mary Sue elements coming in, especially on chapter 5. It already annoys me on how so many guys like Bella and are wanting to ask her out to the dance, how they all fall at her feet like helpless weaklings...uggh. She's popular for no good reason). I cannot do a book and movie comparison. I will have to judge the movie alone.

Besides the already bad plot, I loved the cinematography, the acting, and the actors themselves. On of my friends, who is a movie buff, commented that the movie had a modern feel mixed with some indie elements in it (the movie was actually made in an independent studio), and loved how the directors mixed the in those elements smoothly. I really loved that part too, especially with the flashbacks on how Edward was made into a vampire, and the part when Bella was finding out about vampires on the internet.

Out of the entire movie, I loved those flashback scenes the most and was wishing that they had more of those scenes. They seemed to much more interesting than the damn Twilight plot. Like the noir "flashback" that shows Edward and Bella in a Victorian setting -- hot damn! It actually felt like a REAL vampire story, having all the classic Victorian Gothic horror elements to it.

And the flashback on how Edward was turned into a vampire -- stunning indeed. It almost sent chills down my spine.

But unfortunately, they had to revert back to the sparkle scene! GARRGH! Out of all the scenes in the movie, that scene ruined the entire film.

...I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when they showed the sparkle scene.

Edward: See? See!? I'll show you why I'm dangerous! *takes off shirt* Can't you see now!? This is the reason why I won't let you near me! This the reason why we're so different, why we don't show ourselves in the sunlight...this is the reason why I'm dangerous.

oh. my.
The reason. why. he. is. dangerous. is. because. of. SPARKLES!?
the scene felt more like some cheesy Fabio romance photo shoot than anything else. Hell it looked like it can be the cover of a Fabio romance novel.

speaking of such, there are also some scenes in the movie that felt like it can be a cheesy soft core porno (they even had the cheesy music going on).

the only thing that saved me from dying in my seat is the fact that the actor is Robert Pattinson, the guy who played Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter films. I just have to imagine that it's actually him and not Edward.

So.
I see that on imdb.com, Twilight already has an overall rating of 5.5/10. I looked at the results and the rating is very unbalanced; so many people of course voted 10, but about 1/3 voted the movie a 1, and barely anyone voted the numbers between 1 and 10. Sheesh. Come on people, give me a break! Learn how to do proper criticism and vote properly! The same thing happened to Titanic just because of the fact that it has been the movie with most Oscars won, most expensive movie, and a very popular movie, etc.

I rated Twilight as 9/10.
Why?
Based on the film art alone, I give an it 8/10, the acting a 10/10, and -- minus the plot -- an overall 9/10.
With the plot I would have given the movie a 6/10, but such a score just doesn't do the film justice. Everything was great about the film except for the damn plot itself. If Meyer didn't write such terrible books then I would have included the plot in as part of my scoring and give the film a 9/10.

Right now, according to official reviews, there is a novel out there called "Let the Right One In" that will have a movie adaption of it too. It is a Swedish import scheduled to be Twilighted by Hollywood. In this one, the vampire girl protects the boy and would never dream of killing him, but is much better than Twilight and more deserving of the spotlight than Twilight (warning: This is very R-rated), so I thought that I would do some shameless plugging of it here.

I have to finish Dracula before a certain date because that is what I chose for Ms. Miller's ORLA thingeh.

Hellsing - thanks to a dream I had a few months ago, that dream reminded me to finish watching the Hellsing anime. After I finished watching it, I need more of Hellsing so I started to go all tehh internetz for info, and started to get obsessed and thus, a new fandom is born. I am now out of my Yu-Gi-Oh phase and back to my vampire phase!

Queen of the Damned - because I already finished Interview With the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat.

Twiligt - only because of all the hype that's been going on, and I really want to see if this book really is as bad as a Mary Sue fanfiction. If the book really is that bad, I'm not going to support Stephenie Meyer's wealth and buy her Twilight series. I found a place online on where I can read Twilight for free (thank yoouuuu internet leakers!!!) I read a few chapters so far in Twilight.

and for the vamps themselves:

Alucard = Drucula, which is > Lestat > Edward Cullen

Alucard/Dracula & Lestat >>> Edward.

Alucard/Dracula >>>>>>>>>>>>> Edward and totally PWNS him!
**UPDATE!!
[[Please help Las Vegas Academy seniors a free trip to Disneyland on Grad Nite! Even if you don't like High School Musical, I encourage you to do the contest! Just fake everything as much as possible, lol]]

create as many mule accounts as possible guys! and just keep adding hsm3 to your multiple Myspace accounts and do the quiz, forward to friends, etc. that way our points get doubled.

oh, and I noticed that at the 'forward to friends' part, when you click to 'forward to friends', you don't really need to forward it to everyone. Just wait a few seconds, then close the message window, and cilck on the 'forward to friends' button. It should say '19 forwards remaining'. They would think that you actually fowardeed recommendations, but really, you just waited a few seconds and closed the message window. XD

But I still recommend you to do so, so that we can get underclassmen to do the hsm3 thing too (especially that annoying Korean guy who's ALWAYS in the Senior line at lunch WHEN HE'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE. I swear I'll make him be in the HSM video thingy).

Don't forget LVA graduates too (hey former Comic Club people! helps us plz Dx)

As for the videos, if your in clubs, get your fellow members do to them!! We beat Clark high school alreadyk, but do you really want Foothill high to be ahead of us!?

If you hate HSM as much as I do, yet still want to win that Grad Nite thing because the only thing you care about is grad nite (lol), then follow these strategies!

For the 'Submit your Photo' contest, Just take one of your photos and photoshop (or use paint) HSM3, I love high school musical, some quote from the movie, etc. You don't need to be a senior to help, just do it. If you were in our position, you would want help too.

EXAMPLE: [link]
[link]
[link]

And if anyone here has Myspace band accounts or any other mule accounts, make sure to add HSM to your band/mule account and do all of that crap so that we can get more points.

and once again, the contest prize and how to do the HSM crap!

>>>>>
Disney is running a contest in conjunction with the release of High School Musical 3.
The school that wins the contest will win:
Free tickets to Grad Nite! (Valued at $230,000)
Free Pep Ralley with Natasha Bedingfield! (Valued at $20,000 and open to all students)
Free transportation!
Two Nights at the Disneyland Resort, with Park Hopper tickets!
$140 Disney gift card!
Meal Voucher for Grad Nite!

Sounds Great? It would be even better than that. Here’s how we can WIN THIS:
Go to myspace.com/hsm3 and follow the prompts to get points. You can get extra points (thousands of points!) by:
Adding High School Musical Three as a friend
Downloading photos and short films
Putting widgets on your page (that you can delete right after to put up)
Also, each day you can text ’LasV891’ to 36789 to earn 30 more points.
Anyone can do this, so get all your friends (juniors, sophomores and even (gasp!) freshmen, too!)

All these things combined will take less than ten minutes! JUST DO IT!

Seriously, we CAN WIN THIS CONTEST! There are very few schools participating and with only six people registered right now, we are already 154th in the entire nation! Think if all 1300 kids took out ten minutes of their day to register and complete some easy tasks!

TELL EVERYONE (that isn’t from a different high school) and text everyday!

Make it happen!

I got a...I can't remember exactly what I got, but around a 60 or a 70 (can't remember) on the 'draw a corner of a wall or building' assignment, a 30-70 on the kitchen/garage utensils assignment for crappy blending and not even making the piece 2D design, a 60-70 on the messy closet assignment, a 50-70 on the bare feet studies assignment, and a 70, 60, and 30 on the thighs and feet assignment. TT___TT. sheesh. I didn't know what Ms. Mabel meant by only capturing the mid-thighs, knees, feet, and toes. And that's what I did. but nooo, I got my points taken off for not capturing the SHINS!!!! AUGGH. No where did it say on the paper to capture the bloody shins. It outright says: CAPTURE MID-THIGHS, KNEES, FEET, AND TOES ONLY!!!!! urrggh.

I feel like I'm going to fail AP Studio Art already, because not only did I do terrible on my breadth work, but I also lost points on some of the warm-ups we did so far for not finishing them.

*sigh*
ahh what the heck. why am I even in AP art? I could have chosen to take regular studio art. I should have chosen to do that, or to switch my major from art to piano. Too late for that now.

Ehh. As if I'm even going to pursue an art career anyway. I'm not much of a SUPAAH artiste like the rest of you are, and there's no way that I'm going to be a starving artist. But, I have thought about breaking away from art for a while to concentrate more on piano, and to study piano & music at a conservatory. Hmm. A music career? Maybe...after I have enough money to be financially stable on my own and to also not be in dept for college. cuz...here's meh plan!!

. go to CSN and take up a medical course
. transfer to UNLV and get my BA on said medical course
. move to southern Cali
. save up enough money to travel
. travel around the world
. go to conservatory (maybe) or, study music at a university that has a well-known music program
. travel around the world again
. play piano
. uhh...do art.

Plus even though if I do pass the AP exam, I don't think I'll be able to use my 4 or 5 for an elective credit. I'm going to be an Occupational Therapist and according to the CSN elective requirements for occupational therapy, I need Psychology credits. blergh. oh well. I'll still stick to AP studio art anyway, cuz I wanna see if I really can get a 4 or a 5 on the exam.

I was up all night trying to finish up my Huck Finn draft essay, and since I didn't want to go to bed yet, I decided to surf the net for a little longer. I came across this video that talks about the Ganguro culture in Japan, and I find it slightly amusing:

[link]
