Busy busy busy.

Anyways - I'm joining Denver's finest illustrators in a monsterous (pun intended!) Zombie art show / Engagement party at The Bar Standard on Saturday October 24th!

I will have three pieces framed for sale, and a four print series for sale as well! This is part one of a three part show that will go national in May, and part of the proceeds with go to The Rocky Mountain Cancer Foundation & Sox Place. So if you're local come on down and have yourself a great time with us! Doors open at 8pm, it's 5bucks in costume - 10 without.

The Bar Standard is an awesome Art Deco bar located in Downtown Denver at 1037 Broadway Street.

The series of four prints I'm selling will be $10 each or you can buy all four for $30. I'm uploading them all on Deviant art so you can buy them off of here - but if you want you can buy them directly from me and save a little scratch. I will most definitely ship!

So let me know what you think, and contact me if you want anything! After the show is over I'll be returning to doing commissions and comics, and opening up my doors for that.

Everyone take care!
Zak

Hi everybody!

So San Diego Comic Con was a huge resounding success! I met so many cool new people there and connected with a lot of great companies. Best part ever was that people really really enjoyed my work! I had so many great compliments and insights given.

Attending as a professional for the first time really opened up some doors and led me to some good paths. My Oni Press meeting was top notch and I had a great time with them. Definitely my ideal place to work.

Anyhoo - I put up a special image as a thank you to everyone so check out the gallery on the left and dig it! I also just posted up my entry into the Squidworks Pinup Book for Nan Desu Kon. It's also my first official piece I'm selling as a print! So if you want it - go ahead and show a little love! Order you a print!

And that's about it!

As always you can follow me on twitter at [link]

Facebook rocks at [link]

and of course my official illustration blog at [link]

With that said...

Here's a list of hoo ha's and what nots:

I have a new blog up on blogger: [link]

As always you can follow me on Twitter at [link]

My myspace page is: [link]

I do the facebook: [link]

And if anyone wants to hook it up on X-Box Live you can find me under ErrantPeanut.

I AM available for commissions. I set prices at anywhere from $10.00 to $100.00 depending on what you're looking for. I'm always happy to take on anything when I have the time, so hit me up if you want it.

Much love everyone, and I'll talk to you soon here.

So, that piece in the NY Times is opening up some new doors that I'm pretty stoked on. Going to hopefully get some more cool stuff out to more places outside of the Colorado/California thing I've been doing the past year.

Speaking of, I'll be in Cali twice this next year. Megan is getting married in May and I'll be out there. I already have an appointment with Technicolor that she hooked me up with once I get out there. Score! Then it's the usual San Diego Comic Con. But this year I'll be rolling in as a professional since I have cred under my name. Maybe even an exhibitor if G & I can rake up enough cash for a booth there. We'll see how our respective jobs go I guess. K, Chris & Jen are coming with me so the hotel room will be manageable at least.

At any rate, I'm working on commissions, Squared Circle comics and my little web comic should all be debuting here this next year. If you want a commish, drop me a note and we'll talk.

Have a super sweet Christmas season!

~zak

I gotta get some new ink and brushes before I start the inking process so that's set me back a wee bit.

Other than that I'm building a stronger body of work, and I hope you cats will dig the new progression coming out of home base here.

A few upcoming series to look out for will be a stronger concentration on the females and -of course- Halloween ghoulishness! It's my favorite time of the year!

As always, I'm open for commissions. I'm more than happy to discuss rates and such but only in private msgs. I already have some meetings scheduled (!!) and things are rolling on well.

My pinup was also approved for Chad's book and hopefully that will mean more on the way. Either way, it's my very own published work in a guy who's got some decent face time in the industry.... climb the ladder, Monty...

I think the person I'm looking forward to seeing the most is Brian Lee O'Malley of Scott Pilgrim fame. After talking to him over livejournal this past year, it'll be nice to finally meet him. I've met his wife and she's a delight. I've heard the same of the man himself.

I'm also looking forward to actually experiencing the San Diego bar scene with a certain Ms. Rona. Since I've loosened up the drinking rule, life has been a bit more fun. Bring on that warm warm whiskey!

ok I can barely do one drink, but you know what I mean.
And I'm going to be selling my originals of new artwork in exchange for the almighty dollar. I'm going to be needing some scratch so I'll be doing commissions if any of you guys wanna get in on that. 8"x10" for $10 and 11"x14" for $15-$20 depending on what sort of thing you want me to draw. These will be in B&W, but if you want a colored print of said artwork, then it'll be an extra 5-10 depending on the complexity of the piece.

But hey, IF like five of you want a FREE piece... then you could always sign up for freeipods.com and use me as your referral. Seriously, email me first off and tell me so I can tell you if I've already gotten my five or not. Contact me at morborama@yahoo.com if you want to. Here's what I posted in my livejournal:

If you guys sign up for this shit and refer yourselves to me, I'll send you artwork. I'll draw pretty much whatever you want, and I'll do it quick this time since I'm taking a break to research things for my book and start school. This'll be only open to five people since that's all I need to refer so if you want an original piece of mine, hook it up.

[link] that's my link. Sign up for the ebay offer (ya gotta do it through IE. It won't work with anything else) by creating a bogus email with Yoggin. Then bid on something and lose. It's pretty fucking easy, and hey you'll get some of my cruddy artwork in exchance.I'm pretty sure you've got to do it all through the freeipods.com website so don't sign up & bid outside of that free ipods window cause I dunno if they'll count that.

I'll be doing the drawings on 11x14 bristol board and in Pen & ink. So yeah, this is your chance for a free piece of my comic art! Huzzah dammit, cause I wanna free iPod!

But yeah, I'm coming back cause I finished my work I was doing before, and new stuff will FINALLY be making it's way in. Sequentials, President EVILS and whatever else I have. Should be good times for all. I've got a LOT of research to do for my new book, so I'll be a bit more free to get myself some fun artwork done, including commissions. Right now I don't have a paypal acct, so I'll have to do it snail mail for now, but I guarantee ya I'll get you guys some cool art to you if you want it.

Take it easy y'alll
*free ipod plz*

Ok, so I know a few of you are wondering if President EVIL will uh actually tackle the rough issues. Well I can confidently say, yes. The ideas are flowing like a river, and I could do this for four years easily. I think after I get a few strips out to really set the tone of the book, I'm going to stab right into the Sept. 11th business, and the Oil deals running the administration. Micah Wright stabbed at it a bit with "The Hallibastard!!" in Stormwatch: Team Achilles (the best politically motivated book out there right now). While I want the strip to be funny, because hey cartoons should be, I originally started it to be rife with political commentary. Something I've been getting back into big time. I've got an excellent idea for the Sept 11th attacks, and while I don't want to make fun of them, I want to point out a few things that stick in the back of my mind. I'd like this to coincide with Moore's Farenheit 9/11... but we'll see how that goes. The other thing I wanna tackle is BIG TEXAS' Oil racket that seems to be running this country into all sorts of disaster. Time for some wry commentary on that one. Halliburton will feel my satire!!

ah heh I just got my Pixies tickets for 9/30. I'm about to jump out of my skin with anticipation. And and and the new The Streets cd hits tomorrow! OH MY!! Music Mania brother!! If you've never listened to The Streets give yourself some enlightenment! Its just this odd droll british rap. Good whiteboy stuff!

and with that, I have Invader Zim to watch!!

I have a few different projects that are keeping me from getting ANY work done on my comic, but that's cool. I'll just run through some previews.

If you don't know who Metric is, well you should. They're probably one of my favorite bands to hit in the last year, and I got the chance to see them, and have a fun talk with them at a show in February. I was talking to their lead singer Emily at the bar for quite sometime about how artists influence each other and that got us onto my art. So now its nearly May and I've done some cool ass drawings of them, and a few other things that I have to mail off to them this week. So those will be up on here later.

Also, in light of all the Bush hatred running rampant in the world, I got a little spark of comedy going in me for a comic. All I'm gonna say is two words: PRESIDENT EVIL...

And last but not least a few portrait kind of things should be up too. I've got a few comic pages inked so depending on when I can scan and color them, I'll have those up.

Like I said there should be a good amount of work coming up this next week so keep an eye out for fun and insanity! OH MY!

Well, I've not updated this in awhile as you can see. Reason being is that because I've been hardcore writing instead of drawing as of late. I often frequent cam sites to get cool facial expressions, and what not. Not only is it a great way to keep fresh on lifedrawing, its never a bad thing to draw cute girls. Ok, I do draw a lot of guys, but damn that just sounds gay. Let us never speak of this again. That, and I've been getting lots of reference shots of Victorian and Colonial architecture for this book. I went as far as to go back to Savannah, GA for a week to get shots of the town right after my birthday in January. It was good to be back there. Anyhoo... I've been doing a few pieces for my friend Jamiee's site [link] so you'll see some cool shit soon for her. She's jawesome and 1/2 so go check out her site, freaks!

So yeah, I'll have more stuff up soon, but that'll just sort of be a precursor to the actual website I'm building right now. Its taking a lot of man hours to do the design work that I love doing, and even moreso because I just want a dazzlingly well designed website. Must keep current with New York design ideas!
So, yeah, I haven't updated nearly as much as I've wanted to over the past few months. Truth be told, I've been writing more than I have been drawing. I've plotted out, and scripted all of my first two books (two books entirely different from what I originally intended to publish first), and I'm just now starting the process of drawing the actual comics. Not only that, but I've been running around gathering reference material for the book. Looking at lots of facial (not not those you peverts. BUKKAKE PARTY IN ROOM SIX!) reference, and architectural drawings for the backgrounds. Man, studying Victorian and Colonial architecture for a comic book is really no fun. Truth be told, I have a habit of frequenting Cam sites to get good facial expressions down. Those are the best, and you can't go wrong with drawing cute girls all day. Well, I draw a lot of guys too, but that just sounds gay now doesn't it?

Now, not only all of that has been going down, BUT I've been designing my own website as of late. I'm hoping that I'll go live with it in the next few months, and that'll be my stomping grounds from now on.

SO, you should start seeing some more art from me soon. I'd put comics up, but I don't wanna drop any spoilers for the 3 of you that'll buy my book in the future. So look for mostly character designs, and a few keen things I have planned out for Jamiee's site. Fuck, hit her up sometime at [link] she's frickin hott, and one of the funniest girls to talk to when you have nothing to do.

So, I've decided that this will be a chronicle over the next year of our progress on our book. Tenatively just one part of an anthology series "Future Sprockets" (being the working name), will sort of be like Giffen's Justice League. At times bizarre, and quite humorous while still maintaining an air of purpose. So at first I'm just gonna be starting out with character designs, and when I start getting pages back from my partner who's publishing it, I'll actually start putting up the sequential work. From the reaction we've gotten at the San Diego Comic Con, and other publishers, I'm confident you'll be able to pick up our book in stores at least mid 2004. Personally, we'd all like to get a good head start on the art itself so we're not late with the book for a good long time. So look around, and enjoy kids.
