Seeing as I've been allowed use of some webspace, I'm going to register a domain. Trying hard to think of one however away from the spikeyheadedfreak label as I want something which may be a little more versitle/professional. For now however, if you want to see progress on a website I will start developing soon, head to [link] the stuff there now is the previous projects work, but my boss has said I can use that particular domain name until I get up and running so I'm going to touch up on all knowledge.

Hey hey everyone.

I finally decided it was time to get net active back at my flat, so I'll be more attentive with dA. No promises on the upload front, Uni comes first and after my performance last semester I've got alot to do. Not that I did poorly, I just know I can do way better.

You may have noticed me uploading photos, I've just been experimenting and learning with the digital SLR uni lets me check out. Its kinda fun but I don't think I'll end up delving into much more photography than the mandatory class we have right now.

So, start of semester two? I've got a few new classes, Basic photography, type (fun fun), new tutors etc, and a chance to really show what I'm made of.

Things are hectic, I already have two assignment deadlines next week. But I'm alot more ontop of it than last semester.

I finished my first comic

It was for a school project and the artistic merit within isn't worthy of my talent, however that was due to the guidelines set in place by our tutor. I may upload it, but finishing a 10 page comic (75% of that within a week, colour n all, has inspired me to get working on my own.

Hey hey everyone

Just a small update.

As Ive been saying lately, I won't be on dA much for a bit, lots to do at uni, and lots to do with art.

My time management issues are finally being ironed out, so I'm feeling a lot less stagnant, so I've made some pretty good progress with stuff I was feeling was taking a little too long. When I do feel its time to start posting here on a regular basis again, be prepared to be wowed, as cheesy as it sounds.

There are some people here who probably think I've washed up. You know who you are.. I'm not going to say much because it'll be the same old hat, but its different now that I'm not bogged down in Auckland with all the other shit I was letting hold me back. You'll see, then you'll shut your mouth.

I shall return shortly to pwn my little corner of teh intorweb On other matters, I've started another page which I'll update the same as dA(lol, quite slowly at the moment) [link]

Just an update on my moving situation.

It went quite well, the drive was hassle free, my car handled the extra load of practically all my life (possessions wise) loaded into it, it was Jam packed.

Flatmates are awesome, the flat we're in is pretty sweet though, though my room is leaky at the mo, they're working to fix that, I could've moved to one of the diff student flats but then i'd lose the awesome flat mates, and I think thats a better thing than worrying about a couple of drips.

I wont have easy net access in Wanganui until Tuesday - Wednesday ish so dont expect much in the way of contact with me, unless you have my cell phone number.

Uni starts on Tuesday, so excited

Started on friday with some visitors to my friends flat getting into a fight with each other.

Then saturday, I got into a fight with my friends bro, then my friends bro got into an actual fist fight with someone else, haha.
My phone met a violent death. They definately don't make em like they used to.


Dont get me started on the issues we had with the jetski on sunday, lets say my car keys wont be recovered from the deep, and we're minus one dead jetski.

Work.. well. My last week would be expected to be easy. WRONG. For the last 3 days we've had continual IT issues. Oh well, 3 more days and I'm Freeeeeeeeeeeee.

My friend who bought two tickets needs someone to take one of them off of her hands, its a seated ticket(hence why i havent jumped at it, I wanna be in the mosh if there is one) about halfway back from the stage.

I'm not going to have the net at the flat for at least 6 months, so expect a little less of me on dA,but hey, at least I won't be wasting as much time as I do online.

I handed my notice in at work last week, I finish on the 30th, after 4 years of working here its about time. Thats pretty awesome.

Theres alot of people who probably don't know this already, my friends in Auckland that is, but yeah I'm gonna miss you guys heh. I guess I will be around though, it's not like I'm going overseas..

I guess i should take this new start in my strides, hit the ground running and come out of it better than ever, I've got people to prove wrong about who I am, and I've made a lot of promises to people in Auckland about certain goals. I won't let them down. Its also a sad time as certain things won't ever be the same.

Armageddon stall info will start to be organised soon, all i can say is we have booked space in advance for Chch and Wellington. I'm not 100% sure I will attend both events, but I will help organize things.

Anyway guys, expect more sentimental mush over the next few weeks.

Copyright infringement is wrong, but should people, schools, and hospitals have their internet connections and websites cut off due to accusations of copyright infringement?

111 calls, schools, businesses and artists rely on Internet Connections so it's not unreasonable to say that "Internet access is a basic human right", which is presumably why former Labour MP Judith Tizard said that. Unfortunately she also said:

"It is easier for ISPs, Internet Service Providers, to cut off anyone who might be breaking the law. "
– Judith Tizard (previous Labour MPs) in a bFM interview

This explanation was given for Section 92a and 92c of the Copyright Act: the parts that involve cutting off internet connections and websites based on nothing more than accusations. But our focus isn't to point the finger at MPs because they still have time to stop this unjust law before the regulation comes into effect on the 28th of February, 2009.

"A "copyright holder" can get you kicked off an ISP without having to provide any evidence of an actual infringement. Having to [provide evidence] is apparently "impractical" and "ridiculous" in the words of RIANZ chief executive Campbell Smith. What happens when the "you" above is a public library, or a school? Or if the "copyright holder" makes a mistake or a malicious accusation?"

Making mistakes can be an easy thing to do, 25% of computers are infected with viruses that download and distribute material without the owners knowledge. What happens to owners whose wireless internet connection is compromised? What if that owner is a school or hospital?

As stated above, Section 92 has no punishment for false accuser, leaving this law ripe for abuse. RIANZ (the Recording Industry Association of New Zealand) are pushing for this to be done in the name of protecting creativity and the arts, but we don't believe this fairly represents artist's values.

Already, TelstraClear's head of corporate services, Matthew Bolland, has stated that from 1 November 2008, TelstraClear are taking down websites upon a single accusation of copyright breach: "We don't check or verify," he says "We take it down." ISPs like TelstraClear do not and cannot identify copyright infringement which is why this law forces them to take actions such as these.

Mainstream organisations such as the Consumers Institute of New Zealand and The National Business Review have warned about the danger of such a law:

"The onus is then on the customer to prove their case and get their website access reinstated. We believe this responsibility is open to malicious abuse by parties who wish to close-down websites or disrupt in some way another person's business or enjoyment of the use of the internet."

In practice many businesses and people may be forced to bear the burden of paying for a secondary backup internet connection and website just in case they are falsely accused.

The dangers of a law supporting Guilt Upon Accusation are becoming increasingly understood and the CFF aim to help spread the word. Overseas similar laws have been abused to limit free speech, restrict artists, and hurt businesses.

No one we know – certainly no one at the CFF – is in favour of fellow artists losing income due to copyright infringement. We do however have grave concerns with recent trends in international copyright laws that bypass the traditional expectations of civil rights (such as due process). How far should should we go to hunt down copyright infringers? Should we shut down internet connections or websites based on accusations? Should we let private companies snoop on internet connections without a police warrant? The only purely rock, metal and goth bar here in Auckland, Oblivion, and one of my regular haunts, is basically at threat of closing down due to bugger all business lately, so,
either to convince the owner not to close, or just see the final weekend out with a bang, I suggest anyone who likes a good brew, and maybe even a bit of a headbang/mosh to turn up and rock out with like minded individuals.

If you haven't already been, the bar is 68 Hobson street, basically across the road from la porchetta and dennys on Hobson street, next to some bar called Club Duo, round the corner from the sky tower.

Anyway down to the point of this Journal, everyone seems to be doing it.


I won't go into some overly long in-depth foray into this life of mine this year, but I will say a few things.

2008 started off quite 'romising'.

Factors such as officially becoming full time manager here at Jaycar, finishing my design cert late 2007 (so basically the beginning of 08) Really kicked things off to an alright start

I'd already done the job a few times(filling in whilst they were finding someone new) so actually taking on the role wasn't too hard, but it's now very good that I can actually jot it down in my CV that I've been a manager , I literally built the department (of course with help of my predecessors) over the past 4 years.

I got my first two game conceptual art jobs because of armageddon christchurch 2008, that was awesome.

A bad thing,well... relationships have been the bane of my existence this year, well always in general anyway, having had a 2 year break up, and one basically just after, BUT I must say the second really opened my eyes to something important.. and thus an annoying(well according to some people) 'catch' phrase was adopted, "Less talk more rock" (mind you , it still hasn't become a major reality, perhaps 09?)


My mother went into ICU (intensive care) quite suddenly around June, which was quite an ordeal, we already knew that at some point if she didn't start to get any better that something big would happen, and well this was the year. One of the hardest things i've ever had to do was see a loved one basically being kept alive by machines. BUT, almost quite literally as a birth day present she went from a 70% chance of passing to a slow but sure recovery. Shes still not 100% but she'll get there.

I organised the 2008 auckland armageddon 'dev art stall' we've had going for a number of years now. I won't take any credit for it because anyone could have, but we almost didn't have one due to late bookings, hence for anyone who was present and confused as to why it wasn't as busy as last year, well you know. Maybe I'll organise the next few, maybe not, I'm waiting for the Armageddon Event organiser to get back to me, plus Uni may be far too busy.

Tell us about 2009 you say? Well it's going to be a big year, a very big year for me.

The biggest thing on the cards is a move... away from everyone I know and love, the city which I've grown up in and accustomed to, and practically the place I am most comfortable.

Its a move for the best, an awesome design school, a less stressful lifestyle, more time for my art. Who knows, with alot less distraction on my plate I may be able to sort out whatever has been causing my lack of focus.. and actually be able to say "less talk more rock" and actually have it backed up.

Anyway.. that saying was more a personal motivation thing i had going...

I wish all of you a happy new year, old friends, new friends, and I hope 2009 brings you health,happiness and well being.

My resolution is to get more focused on what i'm doing.. I won't disclose any epic plans, but yes, more focus "less talk more rock" sooo yeah, keep an eye out for more from me.

Its the 29th. I basically have 2 more days to catch up/surpass in page views, got to reach 10k first. Wonder if I can do it, Lets see.

And the contest to pimp my race thing is still being won by , whoever gets the most people saying they were sent here by them, gets free art from me.

I better get cracking if i'm gonna win.

Anyway, whats everyones plans for new years eve? I've got a bit of socialising to do as usual, a little bit too much i'd say.

Any one want to share their new years resolutions? Mines to sort out my focus issues.
