In September 2007, tardigrades were taken into low Earth orbit on the FOTON-M3 mission and for 10 days were exposed to the vacuum of space.
This post is futile.

To make it less futile, I'll post some music first:
[link]

Should get you in the mood.

I recenly realized how badly managed DA is. See, I did some research on what makes a piece of art particulalry popular... in face of many things. The butter legion (=alexiuss) being one of them... and things like people who manage to fav over 47,000 pieces of art over two days, and openly state on their journals, talking to their friends, that they are going to be a hell of a hassle to remove!!! I mean... DA is so prone to exploits that whoever has less scruples wins. And while companies like Google invest money into advanced data management protocols, DA makes you unable to find your own piece of art by entering its very keywords into the search engine, or makes your art bumped down the ' populars' by kawaii hentai hairy fairy fucks with plenty of quick-faving finger-twitchy friends.

The fun part is that you can effectively bounce your own piece of art by getting a lot of fake accounts (with a dynamic IP it's not a problem, but seeing how scripts on DA work, a stable IP is of no problem as well!), around 50 should be enough to get to the main page 'most popular of 8 hours', especially during European timezone activity... And if the piece is good (DOESN'T HAVE TO BE YOURS, ACTUALLY, AS MORE AND MORE PEOPLE TREAT THIS PLACE AS A PHOTOBUCKET DUMP AND GET AWAY WITH IT), or, especially if it's an animated GIF or contains ass/boobs, you'll easily make it into the 24 hour populars and enter the US timezone, where the snowball catches on reeeeeeal sweet.

And, more often than not, I stumble upon people's galleries with MOUNDS of awesome stuff... and the page has, like, 600 views throughout a year... compared to some people who get 10,000 daily by posting same shit over and over again, and leaving tons of tons of comments and faves!!!

Adcast? WTF? Who pays money for something completely ineffective while you can have 1500% results for FREE?

The advertisement and subscription money goes WHERE? This is THE internet art gallery, amirite? Why does it lag so awfully during peak hours? How about a suggestion system based on an image recognition software? Like... ART YOU'D LIKE? Increase exposure to something else than the increasingly BAD Daily Deviations? Non-messed up filenames? Keywords based on tags rather than loose-typing?

This place is medieval when it comes to features, and TOTALLY unprofessional... I mean, I think that DA is still here because there is no strong competitor on the market. Google? Hello? Are you there?

EDIT:
MORE RANT: refresh rates

DID YOU KNOW that DA refreshes the populars every... fuck knows when? Sometimes it's two hour delays? Like, right now I'm observing the proceedings of ~Nectarine's ' Pacino the Wolf', submitted 1 hour and 45 minutes from the time I'm writing this, in the Artisan Crafts>Custom Dolls category. Stats: 4 favs, 31 views, 2 downloads, and 5 comments, which makes it the most popular work in it's category for quite a while now.
After all that time it still did NOT ENTER THE FIRST PAGE OF MOST POPULAR OF 8 HOURS. First page... wait. There is no second page. So, after almost two hours, even though it has most views and favourites, it is nowhere near the first page in it's category. Why? BECAUSE OF THE REFRESH DELAY.

Servers. They are sooooo expensive these days.

Another thing are the emotes that jump in randomly into the text. If you ever tried posting Youtube vid links you know what that means. If not, try typing this:
'*p
without the asterisk

This series is awesome. I remember watching it as a kid... a few episodes only... Must've been a few years old back then. I returend to it recently and can't get over the AWESOMENESS of the plot, characters, creaturedesign, environmentals, world construction... the animation is primitive, has lots of mistakes, shortcuts and repetitions, but there are very few things out there that give me creative dope as much as this thing does. The TEMPO of the plot alone... slow-paced, with a lot of space and time for branching stories, things irrelevant to the main plot, but limitlessly enpanding the world where the fiction happens... argh. Makes me submerse deeper, faster and more effectively than an Airbus does.

I was afraid of spoiling my memories after scanning through the first episode, but as the series went on, it pulled me in like a turbofan... and did to me brains what turbofan does to living tissue. A conceptual inside-out. I'm rethinking and reevaluating so many thigns right now...

It has a lot of Moebius rip-offs and stylizations, even to the point where a lot of people think Moebius took part in the making of this series (he didn't but the background artist was pretty cool at making it look as if he did, hehe). HOWEVER, I feel that the series is a lot less naive and primitivistic in it's plot than Moebius's stories are... Even with that pirate musical thing (you know what it is if you saw the series. If you didn't... WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR?).

The animation isn't very good. Like... really. In all aspects. Sometimes it hurts so much that my brain tends to overwrite some things, like face animation, so that later on it doesn't hurt so much when imagined/recalled/rewatched. But otherwise the series is AWESOME. And some of tha backgounds are mindblowing.

It was released on a two DVD set a while back, but if you can't get you hands on it, it's on the internet somewhere (Ahoy thar, mateys).

Oh, yea, there's a cool page with plot synopsis and stuff. Go see it.
[link]

EDITH:

The irish would call me eejit. Clannad. Irish. Enya is their derivative.
[link]

Back in the days when we were behind the iron courtain, we didn't get so many western crap... those bands, most of them, didn't put up with the commercial pressures well once we became a capitalist country. As an effect, our market became overridden with homogenous, plastic music, that easily superseded the 'native' music.

This also raises the question of a post-rebel... Peter Chung was asking the thing in one of his interviews about Aeon Flux - what does happen to a rebel that ultimately wins, that achieves all the aims that were to be achieved.
Here's a link: [link]

It's important to see some paradoxes: The communist system, if you take away the repressions and killings of people for political reasons (which were still completely irrational) was a lot more human-friendly than most current democracies. On the other side, most current democracies are more friendly than Poland currently, with all the neo-liberal ideas and privatization of the state we get here... and I mean STATE. Everything. I must get my hands on this new Naomi Klein's 'The Shock Doctrine'...

But then again, if I was born in one of those comfy societies that don't raise moral questions about the state, like a non-repressive communist country would be, or like many social-liberal western countries are, I would never become do damn RUDE, and would never ever learn about autarchism [link] ...

So the outcome and satisfaction with who I am sort of quenches the regret(s)... It appears that comfort stands in the way of progress and development, derived from the phrase below:
If there is no problem, taking ANY action could lead to the emergence of a problem... therefore lack of action is the best choice in such situation.

Back to music, I once found a quote by Tim O'Reilly [link] that read:
'Obscurity is the greatest threat to artists, not piracy'

The music I presented is, at times, over 30, 40 years old... My parents listened to it when they had kids... and now me, I still...

Oldschool goodies, some of awesome conceptual and artistic value. Can't remember when I had so much fun watching 3D art, and I'm pretty serious about that...

Meanwhile, somewhere in the near orbit of Saturn...

After Wikipedia, Posthuman

[...]the posthuman recognizes imperfectability and disunity within him or herself, instead understanding the world through context and heterogeneous perspectives while maintaining intellectual rigour and a dedication to objective observations of the world. Key to this posthuman practice is the ability to fluidly change perspectives and manifest oneself through different identities. The posthuman, for critical theorists of the subject, has an emergent ontology rather than a stable one; in other words, the posthuman is not a singular, defined individual, but rather one who can "become" or embody different identities and understand the world from multiple, heterogeneous perspectives.

So. I am a posthuman autarchist. And learned the terms and their full meaning only after i've become one.

Heh.

Is there a myspace for posthuman autarchists somewhere out there?

Sidenote: Enormous areas of Wikipedia are becoming increasingly graphomaniac and secluded from the overwhelming internet relativism.
So... I'm apparently back on track. Thanks to you guys. You three, you know who you are. I'd mention you all, but this would mean I'd have to start with someone and end with someone, and this carries a semantic weight... I don't want to do that. If you're interested, read recent posts under the previous journal and in my gallery

I've remembered how I shaped... I've remembered what pushed me to art in the first place.

The history... well, all this crisis sort of triggered me off. I've started thinking. I did too much of 'lol' stuff, too many things I didn't consider serious, too many things I considered ' practice'. This resulted from my immediate, real environment, the influences from people, attempts at geting artistic education, stuff like that. Things that gathered over the years, that put pressure on my visual development rather than telling a story. This... I've realized this just now, the moment I'm writing this. I was pushing for good craft, completely forgetting why am I doing this...

I did some sketching today. A really dynamic piece with two characters (it involved a baseball bat, a closed door, a human, a strange creature, and the phrase 'are you ready? are you ready for the dark side'?) and a face detail of the same piece... I suddenly realized why am I here. Strangeness... I don't know how many times you guys said that. This, amongst other things, kicked me back on track...

Listen! My aims as an artist!
-Distorted, inconsistent, asymmetrical shapes, that primarily serve the graphic balance of an image.
-Fish-eye view and distorted perspective, that allows the viewer to contain the piece, focus well, experience a different kind of perception.
-Dynamic versus static, both pushed as far as I will manage.
-Faces and expression, body language, character interactions - expression comes first.
-Stylization of faces (expressions) and anatomy. Purposeful inconsistency at depiction of same characters.
-Complex primitivism of form, the vagueness of a sketch, but at the same time intense detail in textures, elements, backgrounds... illusion of realism through detail.

And most importantly, an everpresent feeling of haunting strangeness. The sublime, weltschmerz and saudade...

Eh... I guess you really can't understand my stuff without listening to the Orbital's The Box EP. Full. With that squeaky floor, doors opening, lyrics in the end. It's the thing that forged me... I've sort of outgrown it, I'm no longer in sync... but what's there is there. I still know it by heart. Affected what I'm listening to now, how I interpret it, how I forge it to images. The Box became the context for my works, and my works became a context for The Box. Not ultimate... no... just... for one listening perhaps. Like a one-time feedback loop. Something I'd ask for rather than something that happens spontaneously. That's the right formulation of what I have in mind.

I've recently found a live GOA mix by Sash, at Underground Discovery, 26.07.2008... details here: [link]
It has some wonderfully strange parts in it.

As a side note... it's really hard to preserve individuality while being educated... I've realized that every time, I thought I defined it, got rid of it... but it's like a poison ivy. Once planted, it'll grow back over time... fertilized by ready answers in the face of hesitation.
So.
A song dedicated to all my teachers...
All in all, you're just another brick in The Wall!

Every once in a while I stumble on some character design. It's really hard not to while you're around this place.

So tell me, why does a fucking pirate, or a fucking cyborg, or a fucking fatasy aircraft driver, or a fucking steampunk nob, or even a fucking pirate fucking a fucking cyborg on top of a fucking fantasy aircraft driver, served cold drinks and inflatable condoms by a fucking steampunk nob, HAVE to look FASHIONABLE instead of BELIEVABLE?

Grown up pros, or at least grown up aspiring pros, drawing BAD ASS CHARAS straight from the Paris catwalk. Does animu do that to your bollocks?

What the fuck has happened to functionality? Weapons and clothes that don't get in the way? Basic physics research? POSE STUDY for FUCK'S SAKE? Casual looks anyone instead of that hip-up-shake-that-booty-bitch-OH-WAIT-I-DIDN'T-KNOW-YOU'RE-MALE thing? Setting? Personality?

Oh, wait... Sorry... I'm forgetting myself... This is Deviantart.

Let's all have a jolly dance that involves touching bottocks.

don't get me wrong. I'm not against all those kinds of experimentative sexuality I get to see here, but seriously, do you kids have to make all your characters look like as if the viewer was trying to get down their pants for the past four weeks and they were about to succumb? Like, I've got a wife, and eating through Cloud Stryfe Clone's carpet doesn't seem appealing to me. But then again, I'm no longer 14. Forget it. Please do try to appeal to your audiences.

Romantic. There. I've found the word. It's considered romatic. Battle is considered romantic. Especially when the gut splitting is done by hermaphroditic males or woodpanel females with deer eyes. It's very romantic. A sexy do-i-see-stuff-dangling-there slashes some generic enemies, WOW awesome, WOULD YOU TEABAG MY CAT IT'S SO CUTE.

Hey, you ever seen homicide? Nine year old kids chopped down with machettes, villages drowned in sarin, families (mother, father, nine year old son and twevle year old daughter) dying in North Korean gas chambers (all glass! See-through! And you can hear the screams!)?
Imagine there's a sexy guy in a skirt standing by. Feeling romantic already?

Now, listen to me. YOUR CHARA NEEDZ MORE TRIBALZ TO LOOK BADASS.

Form and function. Can your poor SL-ridden heads wrap around the concept? Function serves purpose. Form serves PRIMARILY function. So, if you're designing battle-suited characters, will you please do NOT do this around one of the two holes that usually stay hidden? If you do that, the character is more suited to look widespread than badass. And won't ever need those guns/swords/jaws/claws.

I know the internet is possibly the place of MOST freedom, but keep in mind that stupidity is contagious. Publishing content is responsibility.

I noticed how many people lack coherence in their works, and I feel the need to share what I've thought out...

By coherence I mean that they keep on drawing new stuff over and over again, rather, like a good writer or storyteller, focus on one or two stories and speak through them. Even if they attempt to, the meaning drowns in the form...

That's what I lack in art nowadays. A story. I realized that while looking at Paul Kidby's stuff, stuff he did for Discworld... Like, the guy was born for this... and he does it perfectly, although still, without the books his art would be largely meaningless (he even says it himself, that discworld was this crank that got him started and going).

Pratchett is whom I'm looking towards right now... The guy's been writing books circling around one realm, and yet, being so 'uncreative' by modern standards (like, two sequels and think everything out from the beginning), he drifts his Discworld towards perfection... and every next story, taking place in environment very well known, is still a masterpiece... I'd risk saying it's even more of a masterpiece than the last one.

Now put that into art... not a comic book, but loosely connected images, each with a story of their own. I think tht this is what differs an illustrator from an artist. An illustrator must be a good craftsman, while an artist must also be a good storyteller.

What triggered me to start thinking and noticing things was Claire Wendling's art. I was examining single images from Lights of Amalou, and about 90% could serve as standalone posters, the sort you could magnify by 1600%, print out, hang on the wall and stare at for hours. I haven't had this experience for ages...

I guess it's this place. And the whole 'concept art' quality of today's art. It makes you think in a certain way.

Realizing this is very important for me... because... how to put it... you can't fuck something if you can't find a hole in it, even if you know it's there somewhere...

Yes, Matt Darey. I wish I could find track listings of his sets...

This music is telling stories of a world that never was... Of what a world could be. Also it's so old-school at times that it makes me feel like a kid... back in the days when our country fell open to the western culture, after the fall of iron courtain, when I've learned about stuff like Akira, Bladerunner, the first RPG-oriented magazines, got me internets... All this somehow fused, merged into my mind, which fed on illustrated story books up till then...

and then everything went into decay, kommerz ate everything that still had value, and left many people fishing for pearls in the cesspit of 'global culture'.

So, yes. Matt Darey.

It's trance music btw, so I gues no one's gonna like it anyway

hey, do you know what's going on in the muslim world right now?
People are raging, because, supposedly, the Pope said something anti-muslim. Haha.

Well, it DID sound like it, didn't it? UNLESS you read whole of his speech, where the aim was to attack the two spectrums of radicalism - the atheism becoming an official religion for the basis of buliding political systems, and on the other side - radical faith that blows up on the streets in forms of people strapped to explosives.

Either someone is not listening, or worse - LISTENING SELECTIVELY. And when someone listens selectively, the person is not interested in finding solutions. The person requires sacrifices from YOU, so that HIS life would be more comfortable!

Personally, there is nothing that makes me enraged more than this kind of hypocrisy:
-you listen to fixed authorities
-you are unable to change your initial judgement, and, as an effect, you defend it
-you do not check information with variety of sources
-you do not seek to find as much information as possible
-you do not delay judgement of events you have too little information about

Now, is this intolerance, or perhaps a thing people used to call a COMMON SENSE?

I find it also a bit funny... Funny in a tragic kind of way
you say to someone 'you are a person that beats people into the ground if they criticize you'
and the person answers 'i am NOT, and if you won't change your view, I'll BEAT YOU INTO THE fucking GROUND'

Well, it looks like my predictions from a while ago are coming true... Better be heading to get a supply of bottles and rags. New revolutionists are coming, we have to prepare a welcoming commitee. And a good welcoming commitee takes good arguments.

As a side note, DA is probably a wrong place to say this. It wants to be so teflon that if you accused them of sexism, they'd cut their balls off and say 'I'm sorry'. That's the way you do it in the 20th century, lads!

And as a side note...
Listen to people who treat you equal.
Talk to people like an equal.
Eat the leaders.
