Well the fact is I haven't been well for about three weeks now and I'm finally better. I posted two things here for you guys to tide you over til I post the kiriban and final piece for *yumixtobiko and I'm working really hard on a complex piece for my new gallery. I want it to be the first thing in there so that's why I haven't posted anything even though I have another piece already done and waiting to put up. @_@

Anyway, I've been on sort of an unintentional hiatus for the last while. That will soon be remedied.

As most of you know, ~yumixtobiko and ~eigotaku and I are trying an experiment starting on March 1st. If you're sick of watching your O.C's suffer in the shadows of the almighty great fan art on the front page, here's your chance to make a ripple. Starting on March 1st the three of us (and any of you who want to join) will be posting fanart. This is an experiment to see if our fanart gets more favs and pageviews and comments than our original work. See how it works for you, you might become more popular and then your O.C's will have a chance! Here are the rules:

1. Starts March 1st (no you don't have to post on this day it's just when it starts)

2. Must be legit fanart. Not fanart of someone's O.C. Draw things that will surely get you noticed. (KH2 has been making the front page like crazy, give that area a shot.)

3. If you are participating, please send ~yumixtobiko a note. This note should include that you want to participate. This way we can see how many people this has impacted, and the after results. It will also make it easier to see your fanwork.

4. When you post your fanart that is for this experiment, put somewhere in your title (F.E) for fanart experiment, but at the same time it won't give it away to anyone else who is clueless. Also, in your description do not mention that this is an experiment, it might ruin your results.

I totally support what's she's saying about the comments we've been getting. I think a lot of artists can relate to the frustration it causes. Here's my take on the points she raised in her journal here: [link]


1. Spam: Just like I delete unwanted email, I'm not going to repost chain comments that I receive on my front page like 'you've been poked' or 'you've been hit by a jellybean' ... I don't see the point in it usually and it doesn't mean I dislike you o.o I just would rather post comments that mean something to artists rather than that.

2. Critique: How frustrating is it to say 'please don't crit this' and have someone do exactly that. If I want critique I wouldn't tell you not to comment with any. It bothers me that people don't take the time to read the description for that or to even look at the critique preferences.

3. Read the damn description. Similar to #2 as in I took the time to write up a description for the piece, the least you can do is read that blurb before asking questions that I already answered.

4. Share the love. Reciprocate. If I comment on all of your pieces, and receive little to no feedback on mine, chances are I'm going to stop commenting on your work. It just gets frustrating. It's give and take people!

5. Faves without comments: I love when my work gets faved, honestly. However usually I like to know what you liked so much about it to fave it in the first place. It helps me as an artist to improve what I'm good at. Leaving a comment doesn't hurt

6. Don't be a downer. It's called tact. Some comments are just plain mean. Stuff like, 'I expect better from you!' or 'This isn't as good as the rest of your stuff!' doesn't help an artist unless you tell them what could be improved. Be helpful in your critique, you don't have to make every single comment on a person's gallery a lovely ball of hero worshippy fluff because artists do want to improve their work.

7. One liners: I completely agree with ~CrazySkye on this. Comments like 'Nice! ' or 'Awesome!' don't really tell an artist much. We'd like to know what you liked more specifically or even what you thought might be altered in future. I like getting positive comments but I would rather also hear what was good or what needed improvement. How else can we get better?

8. Lurkers: This one's my own addition to this list. I always love having new people watch me. But when you never comment on a single piece I upload or fave a bunch of things and never make any comments it does frustrate me a little. Don't be shy, I won't bite! If you like my art enough to watch me, maybe try to comment once in a while

So far lots of journals like this one have been posted in response to ~eigotaku's feelings on the subject. o.o I thought I would go for it too! Guh it all kinda makes me wanna post a vblog o_O or somethin'.

I think artists should be able to build their own following for their awesome art, not for drawing other people's characters.

I was talking with and and we thought we'd try a little something different.

So for a week, starting on March 1st, post some fanart if you can o.o You can do whatever you want with that, but see if your pageviews increase, or see if you get more favs or more comments. It'd be interesting to see what happens. I like KH2 a lot so I'm going to do fanart from that.

You don't have to draw something every day - I know I couldn't. But try to do SOMETHING and see if it affects your views/watches/comments at all.

We're a community of art aren't we? Let's see if we can make a ripple or two and get noticed. So who's with me?!

Almost 26.

Fire witch.

*Appearance*

1) If this character were to suddenly become part of the 3D world, and ended up in a heavily-populated area, how many stares would he/she get?

Probably a lot, he's highly intoxicating to stare at and his crimson hair and eyes would attract a lot of stares, and his height.

2) Is your character considered normal in his/her own world?

Among other fire witches, yes, but not really among the humans. He's been called a freak for his powers and treated like something to be feared and hated for it.

3) What would be his/her most recognizable feature(s)?

Might be the red hair and eyes, and really pale skin. Cold also be the eyebrow piercing, the arm tattoo, and the huge phoenix-like scar on his chest.

4) Would you consider your OC as attractive?

Hells yes. Blayze is drop dead sexy gorgeous.

*Personality*

1) Temper?

YES, but he never ever shows it to anyone now. He has calmed down a lot over the years too. His tempermental nature hasn't changed, but he controls it a lot better. Fire witches are known for their tempers.

2) Does your character ever get depressed?

YES, all the TIME. But like a man he NEVER shows it and tries very hard never to talk about it to anyone.

3) Leader or Follower?

Leader type, for sure, but he does try to keep things in balance so a lot of the time he'll bend more than he'd like for others.

4) What is the main aspect of their personality?

Protecting others at his own expense.

*Family*

1) Did your OC have a family of any sort? If so, are they still alive?

No, his parents both died right after he was born. Jadon Russell Fletcher, father; Bridget Aurelia Fletcher (maiden name Highfield), mother. His mother died during childbirth and his father was gunned down outside the hospital because the people didn't take kindly to fire witches there. Blayze was mixed up at birth with another human baby and given to human parents Darryl and Ainslee Conner (maiden name Murphy) who raised him, and they're probably still alive.

2) Is your character out on his/her own? If so, why?

He spent a long time like that but now resides with ~eigotaku's characters and ~winteryuki's characters in the woods.

3) Has he/she encountered any traumatizing events?

His whole existence has been a traumatic event. He was abused by his adoptive parents til he ran away. He's been mistreated his whole life for being a fire witch. He went to jail and juvie, was forced into slavery at the Forges, saw lots of people he cared about killed in front of him including a child of his and at least one love, he was drafted into an army and sent to kill other fire witches without their powers (so they looked basically like humans) and only found out after the fact, he's had relationship turmoil.... Blayze has been going through trauma since he was born and his parents were killed.

4) What was probably the best time in his/her life so far?

I don't think he knows o.o...he tries not to compare them like that.

5) Single?

Nope, married to ~eigotaku's Trin and has several girlfriends.

6) Has your OC developed any romantic relationships?

Yep, several.

HAH. Funny question. No, he lost it at 12 and is obviously obsessed with it since.

HELLS yes.

1. I'm way too impatient to ever read the instructions. Ever. Ask anybody.

2. I tend to have dreams that I actually forget about (or not think important) then experience later, and get a deja vu feeling... and realize 'Hey, I dreamed that!' ... usually it's very mundane boring stuff though.

3. I will never let you dress me up in pink anything. Love red, but pink phobic.

4. I named my cat after my favorite video game character of pretty much all time, Link.

5. I have proven to myself that I can reach such an excited state of energy that I can actually run through matter...or well, screen doors. Try it sometime.

6. This has been my worst few weeks ever for things breaking. It seems like everything I touch becomes cursed and destroys itself. As of now we're at 7 or so and counting.... I'm probably going to implode soon.

In the mean time I am without any programs to scan art, or even CG. I have to reinstall a lot. I'm INCREDIBLY lucky to have a backup computer at hand in order to do what I need to do, it's just majorly irritating that I can't scan things. -.o;

So if you notice an absence in my art for the next several days, that would be why.

I think the universe has a cruel sense of humor. And probably some vendetta against me. At least this'll make a nice flood for you guys later. AFK while I pull my life back together.

This project is mostly just for fun and to improve my art style but I take my characters and ~eigotaku's characters seriously so I wanted this story to have a starting point.

Not sure when I'm going to have content up in there. I'm going to try to finish the cover art page for the site by the weekend though. ^_^....and now that I have some free time I'm going to tackle that backlog of art I've been meaning to do.

And I'm currently obsessed with Dramacon. ^_^ Meaning I really like it ...the art and characters are really cute...it's the silliest manga ever because it's all about running an art table ...

Speaking of that, I have a table *basically* confirmed for Chibicon in the end of October so I'll be making and selling hats and beaded things again with ~eigotaku ... o.o hopefully we get a lot of business again. Come check out our table if you're going to Chibicon this year! ^_^

My intent is to kinda get back into the art thing again soon since I took a break being sick and all. @.@ so we'll see if anything comes out of that...

School for me starts tomorrow. O_O I'm excited about my class. I didn't have much art to sell this year but I drew three bookmarks at the table for fun only one of them sold... I had some leftover black and whites from last chibicon I tried to sell and some of them went O_O.. I even set up an awesome 'Feed A Starving Artist' tip jar that we made about 4 bucks from! Suh-weet! ^O^

I sold a ton of hats this year, so I was muchly impressed O_O only one of the pre-orders was a no-show, but I can probably sell that hat easily, it's black and pink.

I'm going to get a lot more art done for Chibicon, more bookmarks, definately pins (laminated chibis ^_^) and magnets and cards, and even try to get a program to print up some business cards O_O..

Oh and all that art in my to do list, yeah, gotta get cracking on that. One thing at a time people.. working 40 hours a week is taking up enough time ^_^.. but I'm really glad about how much I made O_O probably something around $800. ^_^' .... Right. Oh and! Planning on making Izumi (from Fullmoon wo Sagashite) be my last-minute-cosplay of the year. I'm psyched for it! It won't be too difficult I think... but I have to get started on it because ... Ai-kon is creeping up. I do seem to like my evil characters o_O;.....

The art tables sold out in 30 minutes by the way. Yeah O_O; big demand... just like I forcasted.

Besides that.. drowning in hat orders... I have to get all the premade ones organized. I also need head sizes from people to do brims. I, am, actually looking forward to the stress of this for some reason O_O;....

As for art.. I'll see what I can come up with. Most will probably be drawn AT the con itself. I really wanted to do something big for the Art Auction this year but I may not be able to come up with anything decent in time. We shall see o.o...

So let me get this straight..

The first person to claim kitty hats as THEIR intellectual property can sell them on eBay and nobody else can. Huh. That doesn't seem fair to me at ALL. o_O;; Considering I've been making them for years now.

So I'VE been charged for making that listing in the first place and if I try to put up any auctions again it will result in my account being frozen o_O; Great.

Aki Amson has also cornered the market on other animal-type hats including bunny hats and bear hats and hats from just about any anime you can think of. o_O;;

My stock of hats will be entirely sold at Ai-kon this year I suppose then... unless THAT violates someone's intellectual property rights too.
