It's a star-studded dub that keeps the original Japanese names with correct pronunciation and even honorifics (not changing "sensei" to "teacher" was thoughtful but sorta odd).

It's a gorgeous and charming masterpiece from one of the greatest directors alive today. Miyazaki never fails to amaze me so you won't be disappointed.

Since I started cooking, I gained a new appreciation for the art of cooking. I've always appreciated good food but making it yourself makes you appreciate it even more. Like how trying to draw makes me appreciate the labors or artists even more.

So I've been on this big breakfast kick for the last couple of months. It's a daily thing now when for 20+ years I couldn't eat anything before noon without feeling sick. I get some biscuits here and there from the fast food places that are good nothing stand-outish.

You may remember my rave revues for the Chick-fil-A chicken breakfast burrito earlier this month. Now, I'm in love with the Dunkin' Donuts waffle breakfast sandwich. Two mini waffles, egg, cheese, and bacon. All of high quality ingredients. Crisp bacon, fluffy eggs, and even thought he waffles were slightly burnt, they tasted fantastic. Grade-A!
Coffee, despite having the big campaign about beating Starbucks in a national taste taste, is nothing fantastic. It's good enough that I'll drink it (not a big coffee fan without some chocolate or french vanilla flavor) but not the best. All I've had from Starbucks are a few frappacinos, so I can't make that particular comparison.

I've almost forgotten about the 10-day work furlough (10 days off without pay) coming up. :/

OK, I can only use DA at work these days since all the Flash is incompatible with my Dreamcast web browser at home. No biggie, when I have down time I can just browse at work, of course, even with 2gigs of RAM on this machine, it still runs slow and even crashes my brower when certain flash ad banners pop up. To make things worse, IMVU has been running some skankier than usual ads recently. I mean, they had some slutty avatars on that side banner ad before, but it's getting kinda ridiculous. Sure, I look at some...not clean pics at work, but at least I can thumb through them kinda quickly then read comments and such without much trouble. That is, when the banner ad does JUMP TO THE MIDDLE OF MY 1/4 SCREEN WIDE WINDOW. Now, I've got some trashsy 3D avatar stuck in the middle of my screen even when I'm doing something innocent on top of the fact that it blocks what I'm reading/ogling AND I can't delete read messages/deviations since it blocks the button.

Fuck you DA, you hypocritical flash whore. Way to delete good art that isn't even that dirty but you let trailer trash whores appear in your banner ads.

Well, aside from getting paid but not having to go to work, this vacation blows.

I haven't left the house since I got home Friday from grocery shopping. I didn't even go out to vote. That's right, I didn't vote because I didn't care for either option.

Today, I decided to check all the fluids in my car, tire pressure, etc. Everything seemed cool until I tried to start it. DEAD BATTERY! No light were on or anything so there must be a short. I've already canceled my hotel reservations for Nekocon this weekend but I have recently decided to go just for Saturday. It's only 6 hours of driving in total and the main expense is the hotel, so I figured it wouldn't be so bad. And now my car is dead. I'll get a jump/charge from my father tomorrow before he goes to work and I might have to get a new battery.

The real irony here is that I was going to use my car to go out and pay my town and county personal property taxes. You know, the money I have to pay to the town and county that allows me to continue to own the car that doesn't work. So I walked to pay the county taxes for my car... I get paid tomorrow (direct deposit, FTW) and will have a functioning car one way or another to pay the town.

Besides that, vacation has been frozen dinners, gaming, and fapping. Haven't done any sketching in a while, unfortunately. When I'm depressed, it's just games and fapping to cheer myself up.

Oh, and while looking through this week's paper, I saw a glaringly obvious mistake in one of the ads that just confirms how retarded everyone else is that works there.

If you're at Nekocon Saturday, you may see me with my video camera. Come talk to me, please?

T-minus 8 days until birthday and counting.

P.S. My mood isn't "Joy," I just can't change it right now.

Things weren't looking so good for our dashing hero in the last episode. But fear not for many issues were resolved! See my previous journal entry, if you wish.

My two cats are still missing but eight new 2-3 month old kittens have appear in my backyard. They're so cute and make me feel happy just watching them play, but I also have to worry about their safety. I really hate the neighbor kids, and I will act hastily the next time I see one of them try to feed one of my kittens to their dog.

My medical bills are paid and I'm in no pain at all. My daily vitamin and grape juice makes me feel much better than I would, I'm sure. I also keep medicated wipes on hand to prevent those other problems from resurfacing...

I exchanged my faulty HD and the new one works marvelously. I don't know how I've lived without one for so long. It beats the pants off the crappy old Iomega Zip drive that I used to use with my 25mHz Mac Quadra 605.

The car lives! I went to a highly recommended individual that was cheap, fast, and honest. After the last place I used tried to screw me out of $60 during Wiper Blade-gate (a story for another time), I'm pleased to find a decent mechanic.
Also, it seems to be surviving my daily commute. I carpool with the other guy that got transfered with me so I only drive every other day, and he has his cell phone in case something disasterous happens.

About the "new" job. Holy shit, I can't believe how much faster I can work. The old office had a terrible router that was apparently manufactured during the time of the Roman Empire when the Internet was still made of wood. See, our files were kept on the server at the office I'm in now. Printing over that network could take 30 FREAKING MINUTES for a single page. Now, it takes 30 DAMN SECONDS. So I can do more work in much less time. Also, I actually have less work to do. Turns out I was doing a lot of things outside of my assigned duties. Those duties have been pushed onto the people that should have been doing it in the first place. Even the new bits of work I have in this office don't amount to what I had been doing. Plus, I work four times as fast as the other artists. Doing two days of work in five hours is good training. These slackers are spoiled. I even had time to be creative on some ads! I used the PEN TOOL! Holy crap, I did something other than a square! It's like Heaven but with a two hour daily commute. Once I get my tablet driver reinstalled, I might actually draw something!
There are also promises that I'll be moving up big time by November. I'll be getting the best computer in the company as opposed to the oldest and slowest one I currently use. The CS2 suite needs more than 512megs of RAM and a single gig processor. But we'll see how that goes since I'm used to corporate's empty promises. My supervisor knows what I can do and would like to alleviate some of his stress with me. I'm all for it, as soon as I get more money and a title that actually has "manager" in it for once.

I'm also thankful of the many people I've contacted through this site that have kept me company. Some of you have become great friends despite being a world apart. And I'm still looking to meet more people so come on!
Given at least another month and I should finally have my very own laptop that I can use to chat from home while I play games and wait for my turns to come up.

Thanks for reading!

I'd prefer to keep my journals here art related given the nature of the site, but I need to vent at the moment.

I have had the most incredibly shitty luck over the last few weeks.

As I mentioned before, I lost two of my cats not too long ago. I've also been slammed with medical bills from some stuff in April including a $700 ultrasound to find out if I had gallstones (which I didn't, thankfully). My isurance covered a lot but it still sucked. And nothing was wrong with me so I don't know what caused days or horrible, crippling abdominal pain.

A week ago I had another medical problem, which I shall spare you the details of due to the nature of the problem. Sufficed to say, a bloodclot formed in a very sensitive area and sitting became very painful. Then it ruptured and bled like something from a slasher movie.

Last weekend I bought an external 250gig Simpletech HD for $100. I needed to backup some files like stuff off of my video camera. Five minutes out of the box and it fails. I don't have a computer at home, I just mooch at work during slow times (as I am doing at the moment). Now I remember why I've avoided getting a new computer -- I have shitty luck with technology.

Today, my car falls apart. Like a computer, I was without a car for years because a horrible accident made me scared to drive. I had to eventually break down and bought a used 92 Dodge Dynasty from a coworker in October for $650. Then $500 in repairs later and it seems fine. It passed inspection a week ago, in fact. Today, I go out for lunch and the freaking tensioner pulley falls off in front of my house! That means, no alternator, no steering, and no brakes! I'm getting it towed to a shop later after work, and will hopefully have it back tomorrow afternoon. If not tomorrow, I'll have to wait until Monday because Friday is a US National Holiday. Bonus! How much will this cost me, I wonder? And I need this car to be in top working condition so I can commute an hour to and from work starting in two weeks. Plus, I don't have a cel phone! Too expensive and I've never needed it to ask my baby mama where she at. For the sake of emergencies, I'll have to invest in one. Shit!

So I'm pissed and depressed at the moment.

I can't believe this will be my third journal entry in a month. I guess I've been feeling very lonely and talkative, which is contradictory to my very hermit-like nature and general hatred of people around me. I've even beeing commenting and holding conversations with people. Am I growing soft? I think I actually like this community as opposed to the many others I've encountered over the years.

I got a bomb dropped on me a few weeks ago. My job is being moved, and me along with it. The newspaper business isn't doing so well so corporate is cutting costs anywhere it can. They've already fired a lot of people and are now condensing others. My job is being moved into a daily from my current weekly group. The good news is I get more money! How much, I don't know yet, but I'm currently paid 40% of the industry standard. The bad news is that I now have a two hour round-trip commute. More good news -- my job will be much easier. More bad news -- I'll now have more to do. See, while what I do will become less difficult, there will be an increase in sheer quantity. Despite the bad points, I'm ready to get out of this office environment of lazy bitches and back-stabbers. More importantly. +$$$$

Movie reviews?
Wall E is excellent. Get Smart is a great homage to the series of old. Indy Jones 4 wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. Iron Man rocked! Harold & Kumar 2 wasn't as funny as the first but still decent. Forbidden Kingom could have been better but gets points for Jet vs Jackie. I'm not a huge Narnia fan so Caspian was OK. Speed Racer was too goofy as first but had a fantastic climax.

My two kitties from my previous journal are still missing and assumed dead. Rest in peace my sweeties. But, as live continues in cycles, we now have a new litter of kittens in our back shed.

If anybody feels like talking, drop me a line. I can follow a conversation on just about anything.

A while back I mentioned that I picked up a freelancing job designing a logo for a local car dealer. [link]

Well, I was paid in full but my design wasn't used. The reason being that the owner decided to go with someone else that happened to do some graphic design on the side, and also happened to be an ex-girlfriend he wanted to get back together with. I thought nothing of it since I was still paid for my services rendered even if the product wasn't used.

A week ago I get an email at work forwarded to me by the sales team. This same company wanted to run an ad in an upcoming catalog and they sent their new logo. So I got a chance to see what this marvelous new logo was. Oddly, this logo looks an awful lot like the one I made. The fonts are different and the car logos are gone (which I was asked to add in by the client), but the spacing and a circle of brand names surrounding the company name are all too similar to what I came up with. If they ever update their website with the new logo, I'll link it and show you my unused design in my gallery.

I'm not mad about it, but I am a bit amused by the situation. I hope that ass was really good, because the logo is a cheap knock-off.

A week ago, she just disappeared. I looked around our small property for any place she might be, but I couldn't find her. I can only guess she either found a quiet place to go and die or something caught her because she couldn't run fast. I didn't find a body, which gave me hope, but she hasn't shown up to eat and she never missed a meal.
She was a sweety that loved to sit in my lap during the winter. I tried to get her to stay inside but as it got hot she wanted to play outside. I don't know why I never got a good picture of her. Of all my current kitties, she's the only one I never photographed.

The one pictured has a habit of disappearing for days, or even weeks, at a time then reappearing as if nothing happened. She did it last year for about two months. Obviously, she found a source of food and shelter away from home. It's been two months for her now. I'm still hopeful since she seems to take care of herself well, but it's starting to look bad. On top of that, my neighbor children are evil towards our animals, and even their own. Some teenagers with a bb-gun were seen walking past our house the last day I saw her sitting on the railing outside my window as she liked to do. No blood, no body.
She would meow at me to come closer so she could sit her front paws on my chest and rub her head against my chin. All winter she stayed in the house but she loves to go out in the Spring.

I still have 8 other kitties around the house but losing even one is heart-wrenching. I've lost a lot of my babies over the years; over 40, actually. I feel powerless when they get run over or tormented by neighbors. I do so much to protect them but somehow they always end up being taken from me. They're one of the few true joys I have in life. More than any other person, they are my friends.

I have a very hermit-like nature where I don't like to interact with people unless they make the first move, and even then, they have to interest me with what they say before I can hold a conversation. I'm actually very talktive when given the right subject.

I've been taking pictures but nothing of any artistic merit. My cats are the only interesting subjects I have and even that gets old, though still cute. I can't keep up with sketching because I just can't seem to focus. I'd really like to sketch some character designs that I've developed for what would be a video game if I ever got the resources, but I just can't do my imagination justice with a pencil now.

For the time being, I hope the resident artists don't mind as I enjoy their galleries in realitve silence. I still can't give technical criticism but I can provide emotional support and pats on the back. I really wish I could create some good bondage art to share since that's what really interests me here, and I want to feel like a member rather than a leech. I feel subvertly pressured by some artists to contribute something or else I'm some kind of perverted beggar.

Media General, Inc, the company to which I'm employed, has decided to final update our software. We've been using Quark XPress 4.11, Photoshop 7, and Illustrator 8 since I started working here 5 years ago. Now, a new system for billing and routing ads has forced them to upgrade us all to Adobe CS2. For the past week, I've been converting Quark files over to InDesign CS2, and it's pretty freakin' sweet. I've got all the features I've longed for to make my job easier and my ads look better. And with CS2 comes a newer Photoshop and a much more user friendly Illustrator. I've been avoiding Illustrator 8 due to its stiff interface (no live scrolling is a pain) but the CS2 version makes it much nicer. I've come to really love it. In fact, I've done a little moonlighting.

One of the local car dealers that I've done ads for before recently contacted me about designing a new logo for them. I've never done any freelance graphic design before so I had to check around for the standard rates. They accepted my slightly lower than standard terms and I'm waiting to finalize now. I gave them two designs and I'm now waiting for them to get back in contact with me about which they prefer so I can clean it up and give them an vectored EPS version. It's nothing fancy, just some green gradiants, a few different type faces, some drop shadows, and some nationally recognized car logos. I might display it for portfolio purposes but I'm not sure if it would be legally acceptable since it has logos for Pontiac, GMC, Cadillac, etc on it.

I've been doing some talent searching lately, trying to discover what latent skills I have.

I've been cooking with rather pleasing results, but I only cook for myself. Being a professional chef isn't something I'd like to do but I want to make tasty treats for myself after growing tired of the same processed foods I eat every day.

I'm learning written Japanese at a good pace because I am very good with shape recognition. Speaking it is a different story and I can only associate kanji with their meanings in English, thus I read kanji in English, if that makes sense.

While trying to not spread myself too thin, I've also picked up a sketch pad and started doodling. The results are better than I expected but nowhere near what I want. I really want to get these ideas out of my head but my hand isn't trained properly. I really am better at art directing than drawing. I'll keep at it and I'll share what I produce when I feel I've reached a decent level.

One result of trying to sketch is that my appreciation for other artists has grown even more. Walking a mile in someone else's shoes makes you admire what they can do. There are so many talented and budding artists here that leave me in awe. So many styles with great detail and depth.

Sex and Art, My Observations

I feel so out of place here, not contributing much in the way of art so I at least want to share my philosophy about art.

My life is simple. I choose not to say "boring" because I'm actually always amused. At work, I'm a graphic designer. At home, I spend my time playing video games, watching anime, and browsing the Internet. I'm always somehow involved with art, be it the creation or appreciation, and I enjoy it (at work, half the time). Games I see as an art form but I'm mostly interested in the math. I play RPGs because I like micro-managing and stat growth. I play fighting games because I like the way moves flow into one another. The flow of fighting games has a lot to do with the art: bad art = bad animation = bad flow. But even in my number-heavy RPGs, I tend to enjoy the ones with the most unique and crisp art-style. Story is the least of my concerns, but a well-woven tale will captivate me and keep me interested for long spans of time.

Anime, on the other hand, I enjoy for the art almost entirely. There's something about the style of Japanese animation and comics that's always captivated me. Sex-appeal also has a lot to do with my anime interests. Anime females with their perfect figures and large eyes are sexy to me. Is there anything wrong with that? There shouldn't be. Art is meant to evoke emotion. You should be able to look at art and feel the same emotions as the person that created it at the time. What better muse than one of the most primal instincts -- sex? Around here, you can look at my favorites and see this principle. I'm especially interested in bondage, which is art in itself, and it does stimulate me in a sexual manner. I watch a lot of well-established artists because I know what they can do will interested me. I also watch a lot of artists that are still developing but I see great potential in them to provide quality art of a nature that interests me. Art is equally the quality of the lines on paper as well as what those lines are depicting. I can look at something and acknowledge its incredible technical aspects, but if it isn't depicting a subject that I'm interested in, it won't hold my attention. Similarly, something I'm interested in my be of low quality and will thus lose my attention.

It seems that a lot of people have a problem with the relationship between sex and art. Some people will shun an artist of great talent simply because they focus on sexual subject matter or something else that may be taboo. Likewise, the people that enjoy their art are looked down upon as perverse. The situation is worsened when fetishes are involved. Sexually-explict art has become a bit more accepted, but when you mix in something like anthropomorphic (furry) or under-aged characters, people get much more...angry, it seems? By definition, sex involves genitalia, but even if no nudity is involved, people associate "furry," "loli," and "bondage" art with "sex." However, it's now "unnatural." It's still art! Just because someone doesn't like the subject-matter shouldn't detract from the fact that it might be well-made and that someone else might enjoy it. The artist is also expressing themselves and they shouldn't be repremanded because of it. There are surely people that only enjoy it for the subject-matter and aren't focusing on the art appreciation aspect, but these people are even more discriminating of the quality, I've noticed. People that are searching for their particular sexual fetishes will brutally attack art that isn't of the highest quality even if it depicts exactly what they want.

I really don't have a way to wrap this up, and I really should expand upon some points but I had some thoughts that I needed to get off my chest. I guess, I'm trying to say to the artists: keep doing what interests you even if some people don't like what you have to say with your art. And to the viewers I say: don't be so harsh on artists or their admirers just because they choose to view subject matter that you don't like.

In case you may be wondering, no particular incident or comment really made me think of this and no one has directly attacked me. I've observed artists and their fans for years and I just want to tell every individual to stop being such an upity douchebag. Let all sit back and enjoy.

Greetings to all! I've been browsing around here for some time but recently decided to create an account so I could better track some of my favorite artists. Please forgive me for stalking you all and I apologize if I'm quiet.

I'll now introduce myself formally. My nickname of choice is "strippinheat" and you'll see me use that name on any boards or forums I may frequent, though you probably won't see me say a whole lot. My real name is Donnie and that's what I prefer to be called. I don't really like hiding behind an online persona.
I'm a graphic designer for a group of local newspapers. I've been recently promoted to the head of my department as I've been the only person there for two months now. I don't do illustration very often, my primary function is composing ads with material given to me by clients and manipulating stock images. I don't really think I should be considered an artist since I hardly ever draw anything. Also, while the umbrella term for my department is "creative services," I'm actually given very little creative freedom.
I don't draw recreationally. The last thing I think I ever drew was a picture of my cat back in fifth grade. I was proud of it back then, but if I ever find it again and look back on it, I'm sure I'd be embarassed by the childish quality. I have been inspired recently to try my hand at drawing once again but I won't be posting anything until I'm satisfied with the quality. Also, I'd need to find some time between my 50+ hour work week and my video game addiction. Honestly, I'd rather admire someone else's work than try to create my own. I know what my own imagination is capable of producing, what I really want to see is what other people's imaginations can produce.
Also, at home I'm limited to browsing the Internet on a dial-up connection with a Dreamcast as my only web browser. One day I may get around to replacing my old dead Mac. Maybe I'll even break down and settle for a Windows based machine, but I doubt it.

That's about all I have to say for the moment. I look forward to seeing all the wonderful art everyone here can produce.
